deeply disappointing. would like to support local merchants but don't like the experience of overpaying for mediocrity. a recent pick-up purchase had a good pork chop, a thoroughly forgettable chicken parmesan and a joke of a salad. that was bad enough. worse was that the prices were stratospheric and added insult to injury. i know restaurants are hurting now, and i have no desire to knock this place which in general seems very nice tho pricey. but after this meal, i'll never go back. read more

When you choose a town to visit based on yelp reviews your expectations are high. The End Cut did not disappoint! We just enjoyed the most delicious meal and pleasant conversation with the chef/owner of End Cut. Everything was prepared with attention to detail and every single bite was perfection. Delicious filet accompanied by melt in your mouth potatoes and crisp asparagus is definitely worth the trip! Also not to be missed are the crab cakes and rack of lamb. We think we will be back to New Paltz in the future and will find End Cut wherever they are located. read more

After hearing about this for a while my wife and I decided to give it a shot. We dropped our son off at the school for the dance and went into town. Just off the main drag you enter through some curtains and see a smaller place where normally reservations would be a good idea. We pretty much got the last table which was a large booth. We were seated quickly and had our menus in hand. Only real complaint was that the light was a bit low and with aging eyesight a little hard to read. The menu is small and interesting......and then we were greeted by our server and given almost another whole menu of specials. We were brought bread with fresh ricotta drizzled in honey and some dipping oil as well. The ricotta is amazing. Just love to have this at home for breakfast almost any day of the week. We both started with the poached pear salad. I will say that this was incredible. Probably one of the best salads I have even had. I am not even sure where to go with the ingredients on this only that it was huge and I could not stop. My wife decided on the lamb chop appetizer as an entree. Very large portion of three which were cooked to perfection. I opted for the scallops though many of the entrees tempted me. They came over a mushroom risotto with broccoli rabe. Not the scallops were cooked perfectly. The risotto was very good and the rabe fine, even though I am not a real greens person. The interesting thins is that this meal was definitely a sum of its parts. It was in bringing these flavors together that the real essence of the meal came together. I stated with the idea of eating light......and failed miserably. We did not get dessert but the couple next to us were smarter and got a creme brulee to go... They have a small wine list which compliments what is being served and they only take cash at this time. The bill with a bottle of wine, was $100. I've never reviewed a restaurant online, with the exception of End Cut. This is my 2nd review for this restaurant. Truth be told, since finding this place, I can't eat out anywhere else, and I have to drive an hour each way to get here! But, I make the drive happily because other places pale in comparison, and make me pine for this place. So, I only eat here, unless I'm out of town on vacation or business. So, let's start at the beginning. The warm, homemade breads and oil, that's been simmered with sage and garlic is pure delight. The chef, who over-delivers in every way, also offers house made ricotta drizzled with honey and candied nuts before the meal starts. This week, I ordered crab cakes, which I'd never tried. They were succulent, juicy, flavorful and, yet, delicate. The horseradish cream was a perfect complement. This restaurant has reminds me of the kid who eats his peanut butter and jelly sandwich every day. It's so easy to fall in love with the dishes, to the point that you become addicted to them and want to eat them over and over again. As I often do, I started with Jordan's wonderful poached pear, goat cheese, hazelnut and mesclun salad. Even this simple salad is a work of art and perfection. Jordan composes each ingredient with love and care--he poaches the pears in red wine and vanilla and then uses the syrup as the base of the salad dressing. It's just lovely. For dessert, I had the home made flourless chocolate cake with hazelnut gelato. The cake was perfectly done, with a rich chocolate flavor, while not being too sweet. And the home made gelato was bursting with hazelnut flavor, and not gooey from the false additives that most ice creams and gelato contain. Reading my description, you may think that this is a special occasion restaurant. Not true! The atmosphere is cozy but casual, like a French bistro. The service is laid back, and friendly, while the food is as great as the best restaurants in the world. My first review began with the words "Love at first bite." My birthday dinner tonight was a disaster! My friend was treating me to a dinner at "End Cut Restaurant in New Paltz. We arrived per our reservation at 5:30pm. We ordered a bottle of wine and one app when we arrived. We were not served dinner as of 6:50pm, while others had been served. Our waiter said they "were short staffed". We requested our two dinners of filet mignon to be to go at this point. The wait staff left the building to get "to go containers". We received our to go containers, which were styrofoam, and melted due to the hot items contained. They did not put them in a bag, and just handed them to us. The food ended up falling out of the container on the way out of the door. WHAT A MESS!! My friend returned to the restaurant to let them know what happened and express our displeasure. The owner of the restaurant told her not to come back. REAL NICE CUSTOMER SERVICE END CUT. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY WE WILL "NEVER" BE BACK AND WE WILL STOP PROMOTING YOUR RESTAURANT AS WE HAVE DONE IN THE PAST! I hope you do not have the capability to remove this post! Overall this was not a good dining experience. A group of female friends and myself went here for a celebratory dinner. The owner was a little too friendly in all of our opinions and appeared to be offering more than just food. At first he came out a few times to check how the meal was going which seemed fairly normal. Then toward the end of our meal he sat at our table and would not leave. He made several off color and suggestive comments trying to hook up with some of us. It was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional of him. After telling others about this we heard this is not unusual and other females had the same experience both here and at his previous restaurant called Jordan's Pizzeria. Other Yelp reviews that mention his behavior have all been mysteriously removed. This probably will be as well but if it remains posted ladies heed the warning if you go here to bring a male with you. The food was decent but took a long time to receive and some dishes were cold. The staff is terrible and spent more time sitting at the bar than waiting on customers. It's also cash only but the owner joked several times there were other ways to pay for your meal whatever that meant but assuming it applies only to female diners. A huge disappointment but the owners aggressive and crude behavior was the issue and created too awkward and uncomfortable an atmosphere. read more

it was funny seeing such great reviews and then terrible reviews. this place was BOMB. i think the terrible reviews are for the people who don't know what they're getting into. this restaurant was clearly a place where it's going to be a great meal while at the same time have a long wait for it. if you're in the mood to sit, relax and spend time with family/friends and have great food - go here. everything was spectacular - the half chicken was great, the burrata special was spectacular, the filet mignon special was also great. the place is small, so i would recommend a reservation. the server was super friendly and funny. i would definitely come back if in new paltz! read more

Food is a bit overrated I think. Service was strange, to say the least. I visit a girlfriend in this town occasionally who was excited about a new venue. The chef sat down at our table towards the end of the meal and wouldn't leave. It became clear very quickly he wanted hookup with my friend and wouldn't quit. Our service from start to finish was terrible. The server was incredibly inattentive. We had to ask for a bread basket. We waited close to 45 minutes for our entrees and were told this was the "European" style of service at the restaurant. Our steak was undercooked, our plates were warm (not fresh off the stove) and a meal was completely forgotten. The waiter was unapologetic about forgetting our meal and our overall displeasure with our service and the chef wouldn't even speak to our table regarding our concerns. I chose to rate the place in the middle only because the entrees, one cup of coffee, and one dessert were very good. My guy and I got wind of this place at the Taste of New Paltz this year. The little space was perfectly lit with great music. We were the only couple at 8:15 pm. I ordered the beet salad asking for the goat cheese to be omitted. He ordered the pear salad. Both were delicious except mine came with goat cheese. I asked for another and was completely disappointed. The redo was rushed and very bitter. I was asked what she could do for me and I asked to have it removed from the bill. This was a second server mind you. Our entrees came shortly afterward and were delicious. Halibut was topped with pear salsa(too much onion), and my short ribs were great! At the end of our meal, We were asked by our first waiter, "do you want anything else"? Hmmmm. How about a dessert menu. 4 items. Lemon tart was refreshing. His Apple tart stale and cold. My guy asked for a warm up. It never made it back to the table. Both of our servers were engaged at the bar in conversation and my guy had to signal for the waiter. The beet salad remained on the check. However both desserts were comped. It will be a while before we return or recommend this place. A trained waitstaff would help this restaurant. read more

No greeting at door, long wait times and constant apologizing. I can see from other reviews that this is systemic. Where should I start, the room was dim the wood tables didn't have a clear coat that isn't sanitary because dirt and food will get into the crevices not to mention splinters! Rule number one of any good business never put a customer out of their way! The cash only policy was very inconsiderate, yes there was a ATM but I don't want to have to pay 3 bucks just to get money out not to mention I like to leave a tip on my card. The prices were outrageously high for a college town 55 dollars just for two meals. tax is added into their menu price and some extra change just to make it a whole dollar amount so they don't have to worry about penny's; even though, they only deal with cash somehow they couldn't seem to find change for a twenty. The service was confusing because more then one person was taking our order and binging the food. They didn't know the menu and if I'm paying that high of a price for your meal I want a description on the menu for what I'm getting in my meal. The chef took the cheap route for this expensive meal buying the thick asparagus, any good chef know that unlike any other fruit or vegetable asparagus looses its flavor and gets more fiber the longer and thicker it is. Also the service was drinking on the job not professional at all. Displeased needs a lot of changes or the place will sink. read more

We went last night and a prior meal had been good so we were looking forward to this one. The place was full and loud which made having a conversation impossible. We waited 45 minutes for the appetizers which were ok and more than hour for the entrees. They were over salted and the steaks were raw. We sent the steaks back because we had asked for med., they came out again slightly less raw but we ate them because we were so hungry! No apology for the wait was offered and our over all impassion was that the place it rather pleased with itself. We weren't. Since we had a lot of time to stare at it while waiting for our food the decor sucks. The rating is an average between the 5 star for the food and 1 star for service. We waited no exaggeration here 30 minutes minimum to order the food, 30 minutes minimum to receive our appetizer and another 30 minutes minimum to receive our appetizers. I understand that it was a full house but it was evident that they were short staffed but luckily it didn't affect the quality of the food as it would've added an additional thorn to our experience. The interior is very warm and my husband found this spot as we were passing through from Poconos, PA to Tarrytown, NY. We sat at the communal table and in the back corner so had a view of the rest of the restaurant. I was able to observe that we weren't the only ones with extended waits for our food but did notice that the couple across from us (who appeared to be regulars) DIDN'T have the same issue - take it as you wish but I perceived it as biased service. I ordered the mushroom ravioli and my husband the salmon both of which were excellent. I would hesitate to return due to lack of attentive waitstaff - at one point we even saw the chef come out to assist as the two servers obviously had their hands full! read more

We had an absolutely delicious meal at End Cut last weekend - it was truly a great addition to the New Paltz restaurant scene! Every thing was totally yummy - the heirloom tomatoes were gorgeous, my scallops melted in my mouth and my husband loved his duck! Prices are reasonable, especially on the wine, and the atmosphere is pretty and intimate. Others have commented on the slowish service, we appreciated it - we felt like we weren't being rushed and were able to linger and enjoy a romantic, delicious dinner! I don't ever post reviews but our experience at End Cut last night was so concerning that I felt compelled to do so. A few girl friends of mine were walking down the street when we were coaxed to dine at the restaurant by the owner who was standing outside. That seemed somewhat questionable since he almost seemed desperate to drum up business. We went in anyways but if one of us had checked Yelp we would not have. This review will probably be sent to the not recommended reviews like all the others that address the owners awkward age inappropriate behavior towards girls dining there. Yelp loses a lot of credibility to me seeing they only allow the good reviews and disregard any concerning ones trying to address safety and almost harassing aspects of a dining establishment. I found it humorous that two 5 star review posts were made within days by the same person using different names Jen S and Js P but same profile picture and probably are the owner himself trying to salvage his bad reputation. He was very helpful at the start of the meal making recommendations and making sure we were taken care of. The $25 wine bottle selection was good very diverse and good selection. The meatball appetizer was pretty good and plenty to share. The best part was the homade bread. I did not like the duck. It tasted to rubbery. It was more money than we wanted to spend that night on a meal but it would have been ok if the atmosphere made it worth it. The owner did sit at our table and remained there without taking hints he leave. He has a creepiness to him and made several comments that made us feel uncomfortable. We wanted to leave because of this but it took forever to pay the bill so we could get out of there. I could continue but I'll leave this review at the food was mediocre for the price and if you are a girl enter at your own risk since the owner seems to be more concerned with hooking up then with running a good business. read more

We are going to be frequent customers and cannot wait to share our Thanksgiving at one of his tables with a group of friends. Cute & small italian place. We decided to give it a try after reading all the reviews on Yelp. The place is only 1 month old. Small menu was nice and we thought the food was lovely in general. Should definitely try the wild mushroom cakes and broccoli rabe meatball appetizers! I had the wild mushroom ravioli entree which was delish! My husband had the steak but was not happy to get the end cut portion of it. Perhaps they are living up to their name? We also tried the chicken parmigiana and taste was there but the tenderness of the chicken was not great. Had a chewy texture to it. The waitress was very sweet but could use a bit more training, she just did not seem very experienced or comfortable. The host and server ( same guy) did not give us a drink list. We asked what was offered and he said while pointing to his brain.. " it's all up here". Hmmm...ok. So we asked for a gin and tonic and he said they don't serve cocktails. Thought he should've mentioned that to begin. So he did recommend specially chosen wine. He let us know what they had, we ordered, then he brought out one we did not order. Wierd, because the dining room was only 3 customers. So overall, he was nice, but he too needed more training as well. They are just open a month, but I do hope they last. Meal was tasty overall. I'm hoping my review will bring more business to this dark, bohemian, charming little restaurant. We spent the weekend in New Paltz and had 2 dinners in town. This was one of them and I was delighted with my pick. I agree with the other reviewers when they rave about the food. The menu is small but there are lots of specials to choose from as well. The salmon and cod were melt-in-your-mouth. Fresh and cooked perfectly. The fish comes off the boats in Hunts Pt. in the Bronx in the morning, cooked the same day. The details and ingredients made for a sophisticated and delicious meal. ATM on the premises for cash only policy. We will be returning. read more

Food was delicious, portions large and full of flavor! My only tiny complaint is that they are cash only. The homemade bread comes warm and is scrumptious. We had the meatballs and lobster bisque soup of the day for apps. The soup was largest enough for two and full of hearty lobster chunks. For entrees we enjoyed the chicken parm over pasta and chicken saltimbocca over rice. They came with 2 large chicken breasts each so we ended up taking some home. My husband and I had a great experience at End Cut. Great service and amazing food. Our waiter was wonderful. Probably the best meal we've had this year. Crunchy almonds and creamy house made ricotta with local honey and fresh bread to nibble on while choosing your meal. It's obvious the chef selects the very best quality of food. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Very good wine selection, all bottles are $25. If you want high dining in New Paltz, I would say End Cut is right up there with A Tavola. read more

Two of us had excellent meals and a delicious bottle of Montepulciano. (All wines are $25, which is an excellent price for the quality) The mushroom cakes were fabulous, and we also had the escargot appetizer special. They came in a rich champagne sauce that was delicately seasoned, and brought out the taste of the escargot without overwhelming. A nice change from the usual garlic butter. I can certainly recommend the salmon which is served over red cabbage and fennel. This adds sweetness to counterbalance the fish, and also keeps it moist without adding any starchiness. My wife ordered the mushroom ravioli, and that was also served with a delicately spiced sauce that enhanced the deep earthy mushroom flavor. Next time we will skip the appetizers so that we can try their desserts. read more

Read all the reviews and took them in consideration when we went on 1-30-16. True that we were going early due to the opera simulcast at rhe Bardavon, yet the restaurant was arm and inviting. The owner chef greeted us but quickly passed the baton to his head waiter who was more of a maitre d than server. Although the critiques said the service was uninterested, we found the opposite to be the case, asking my French mother the proper pronunciation of a Patriarche Burgundy wine. Stater salad was enormous, escargot was like a mushroom cream appetizer but very adequate, the mushroom cake a but bland but acceptable. Scallop and steak combo special was delicious although the meat was a tiny bit tough. In their defense they did have a filet mignon as another special. My 1/2 duck was almost boneless and cooked to perfection. Wine bottles are only 25 dollars each which is unheard of. The catch: CASH ONLY. Barely mentioned but true. I noticed all the tables that filled later, so I can say through observation, the service and speed of food was absolutely normal, which made the entire experience a smashing success. Be more forward about the cash only but we have here a cry winning combination. read more

So the ambiance was nice, The staff was friendly, the bread with cheese and honey was quite good. The blood orange plate cleanser was very enjoyable as well. Now you might be wondering why I only rated End Cut two stars. The entree is the most important part of the meal and saying End Cut fell short is an understatement. The positive side of the New York Strip Steak was that it was identifiable as food but sadly that's where the benefits end. The flavor was next to nonexistent. The outside of the steak was nicely seared and the sauce was tasty but the meat was far too chewy. I wouldn't say eating the steak was the same as eating a tire but it wasn't far from it. End Cut is off the beaten path and tucked away on side street. I highly suggest stepping off that path and untucking this amazing restaurant. It is newly opened, just a month. We had an amazing anniversary dinner there last night. The waiter was personable, gave us a great wine suggestion and great meal descriptions. All bottles of wine are $25. The prices of the meals were not overly expensive, especially for the quality. The broccoli rabe and mozzarella stuffed meatballs were a great start to the meal. My husband then had the salmon, which was delicious and flavorful. I had the duck. The outside was perfectly crisp, the inside juicy and flavorful. I HIGHLY recommend End Cut. My only suggestion would be a decor addition. Some of the tables are made out of cool barn doors and the like. Wish all the tables were like that. But really, you can't lose here. Personable staff, DELICIOUS food, reasonable pricing. We will be back next time we are in the area and plan on telling those we know in the area to check this place out. read more

Just a little note on being a foodie and enjoying the experience of meeting a chef that feels strongly about his craft. Chef Jordan Schor was kind enough to come and talk to us about his passion during our anniversary dinner last night. He didn't need to say much it was all evident from the crust on the bread to the caramelized top On his Crème Brûlée, the passion was there. We started off with a eggplant appetizer with the perfect balance of reduced balsamic, tomato and fresh mozzarella. My wife ordered the short rib entree, in deference to my plea that I LOVE short ribs. Before I could get a second tasting bite in she had cleaned her plate. It's OK I was enjoying the rigatoni with sweet peas and sausage. It's a dish that I KNOW and only a handful of places can do it the way it is supposed to be done. Tomato sauce with just a touch of cream that it clings to perfectly al dente, pasta, sweet peas and crumbly sausage, so satisfying. Everything was so good we gave the chef the greatest compliment any foodie can, we sent back clean plates. read more

End Cut is by far the best place for an intimate, delicious, well thought out, beautiful, and reasonably priced meal- much like the fine food you can find in NYC only well worth the price. Eating here consistently since opening there is no better place in town, and there is never a disappointment. I happened to be looking on yelp for another location and stumbled upon the End Cut reviews and felt compelled to write because I saw one very negative review re: wait time and service. If you are looking for a quick , mediocre place, then this is not it. If you are looking for a fine meal in an intimate setting, that , like all good food takes time to prepare then this is your place. I have literally eaten every thing on the menu and there is not a bad dish. Chef Jordan is the best, and we would follow him anywhere. His staff is warm , careful and accommodating. Eating here is like having a 5 star, personal chef serve you in the comfort of your cozy country home, only you are left without a mess to clean up. We had a fabulous meal last night at End Cut. Myself and my sisters came to visit my son who attends Suny New Paltz. The scallop appetizer was wonderful. So was the fresh baked bread with rocotta and honey and garlic infused olive oil, best ever. We had a party of 5 and each sampled each others meals. The short ribs were outrageous!
