Chef parading around the dining room, with a dirty towel over his shoulder, rather than being in the kitchen supervising. No wonder the steaks came out burnt! Not charred but burnt. Went with friends and had a 5:30 reservation. They only do two seatings 5:30 & 7:30. Seated quickly and our server was right there asking for our drink order. That was fine. Came back to mention the specials and ask for our order. Didn't really have much time to look over the menu when he popped back up again. Ordered from the specials menu broccoli cheese soup but oops the ran out of that! What? We were only the 3rd group of people there. Anyway we got the French onion soup and they wanted to know if we wanted bread & butter. Said no as they charge for it! Ordered the pork chop which was delicious, with string beans & baby potatoes. It was wonderful. The others ordered spaghetti carbonara and said it was very good. The waiter kept popping up to much. No dessert but more beer for my husband which took forever to arrive and when it did it was the wrong beer. Waited a long time for the right one. Even before it was done the waiter was there again telling us it was time for us to leave. What? Summary- good food, very expensive, very slow and then they tell you you have to leave, rude! My parents stop here often as the restaurant is right off of the 87. I had visited the restaurant with them a few times and the first few times were mediocre. The menu items are VERY limited and they don't change the menu. The place is small and tight and not well lit. However, I think I may have been ordering dishes that weren't for me. Recently, we came here and I ordered the shrimp and lobster risotto and it was to die for! I would recommend this spot, just be weary of what you order! The place is cash only and expensive. Such a great find! Luckily saw this place as we passed it on the way to our air bnb nearby to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We loved it so much the first night that we returned two nights later. The food is excellent and the staff, including the chef himself, are so friendly. The filet mignon was super thick and the most tender I think I've ever had - definitely get this. We also had the short ribs that are a dish of the day on Saturday - tender as well! They have really good specials and plates of the day - so check out their menu and plan accordingly! Loved the warm bread with local ricotta and honey they bring out before the meal as well. Great drink selection and everything tasted so good. Discovered End Cut looking up best steakhouses near me... This is a converted house that is on the side of the highway but don't be fooled - it is high class. The house chef / owner Jordan started at Del Frisco in Manhattan (which was impressive), and the staff was responsive and knew the menu. Great outdoor deck or intimate indoor setting. You get hot glazed nuts with fresh seasonings to start. Very unique bread trey with fresh butter with strips of honey in it was great. The shrimp was truly jumbo size and the sauce was tasty with a dash of pepper. The bacon on the salad was outstanding - had a bourbon glaze. Filet mignon lived up to expectations- it was tender and even had a little crispiness to it, and the fig glaze (which was very unique to a steakhouse) was excellent - not too sweat but complimented it perfectly. Meatballs stuffed with broccoli and mozzarella were perfect for my wife who is a light eater. I've been to 5 star steakhouses around the world and this is right up there. Another Visit... So on 8/8/19, I took my wife to New Paltz for a weekend away. We dined at End Cut once again and it was fantastic! After being seated, we ordered a bottle of wine and looked at the menu. About a minute later the door to the kitchen opens and Chef Jordan comes out seeing us. He lit up with a smile and we shook hands. We chatted and told him we were up for my wife's birthday and saw our menus. He said something like...you don't need those. Now understand, this is only our second time visiting End Cut. Jordan and crew remembered us and he remembered what we loved! Next thing we know apps are coming out, bread with honey ricotta, meatballs, and then blood orange sorbet. He remembered that my wife LOVED the duck breast and my favorite is his rack of lamb! Everything was perfect, delicious, and flavorful. Let me tell you something, this guy can cook. Nuff said. My wife and I dined at End Cut on their 8th day of business in their new location on 9W (the old Global Palette). Overall, we were very happy. My food was excellent, the crab cake app was one of the best I've eaten. My filet was cooked perfectly and the mushroom 'cake' was delicious. My wife likes her salmon pink in the center, it was a little overcooked. The service was a bit slow but very friendly. I think the service problem can be attributed to them only having been open for 8 days. We are looking forward to our next visit. The restaurant itself was small but cozy. Our party reserved the fireplace table but were denied it when we arrived. We were placed in a back room which was cold. Piano player was lovely and a nice touch. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was sadly mediocre. We may have come on an off night, but the shrimp was chewy, octopus over cooked, braised ribs burnt, and creamed spinach was basically spinach with cream poured over it. Disappointing to say the least. The filet was cooked perfect as was the ribeye. The fig demi glaze was not great in my opinion. Overall the food was a mixed bag. The biggest issue we had was the screaming children. Kids will be kids, but these parents allowed the obnoxious behavior throughout the night. This is no exaggeration, full blown consistent screaming! Honestly, shame on the parents, especially one rude mother who was simply clueless. She saw nothing wrong with allowing such behavior. Not everyone knows how to parent, that was evident. We could barely hear each other or have a conversation. The chef did come to our table and apologize twice, as did our server. He claimed it wasn't really a kid restaurant which was why they had 1 highchair on the premises. I believe this place has potential, but really missed almost across the board on Saturday night. First of all walking I get greeted by chef who says "whats up" as his greeting. I also knew things weren't gonna be awesome when the chef wears slides and basketball shorts as he also has white tablecloth linens. Hmmmm! The meatball app was excellent, 15 min later we finally received the ricotta because they had forgotten to cook the bread. Entrees, first thing I tasted were the mash potatoes on my in-laws plate. Both were cold. The filet was good but nothing to brag about. The strip was burned and stuck in a pool of over reduced sauce. The lamb was cooked and tasted great, but scallop potato were to salty. Then the chicken parm was just covered with tomato sauce on top of spaghetti with more tomatoe sauce. Food not worth for what they are charging. read more

Very disappointing experience. The food was quality, but the service was absolutely terrible. My family chose this location for a rehearsal dinner with some reservation, given the previous reviews about poor service and long wait times. This concern was explicitly addressed beforehand with the chef, who assured the bride that he could handle the group size and would be prepared for the event. We even preordered all our food to ensure that our menu and numbers were confirmed prior to the meal. When we arrived on time and were seated, we were promptly given our drinks but waited AN HOUR AND A HALF for our first dish to come out. We waited an hour for bread to even be brought to the table despite the bride's multiple requests, as there was a 7-year-old among the wedding party guests. When addressing the wait time with the server, she was snarky and rude and completely unapologetic, acting as if we were being impatient. She asked me, "Have you dined here before?" as if it's acceptable to be so incredibly rude and to have to sit and wait that long for food. And while we were waiting, all the two and four tops around us were being promptly served; the chef came out multiple times to chat with those tables, while we continued to sit and wait for even just some bread. He ignored our table and never even made eye contact. I don't get it. The reviews about long wait times and poor service date back 2+ years on Yelp, which one would think would merit a little self-reflection about their business practices, or perhaps a simple apology when things aren't going as planned. First time for dinner in the newish location. Very simply now the best restaurant in the area. We had a superb dinner last night. Coquilles Saint-Jacques (grilled scallops) were delicious. I ordered a veal chop and my friend a New York strip steak. Both cooked to perfection. Flour-less chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. Service was friendly. Cocktails well poured. Went here recently with two of my closest friends, who are local to New Paltz, and had a fantastic meal. From arrival to exit, the experience, from service to the quality/preparation of the food was top notch. Chef/owner Jordan Schor was ever-present, checking in with tables and making sure all was well. The drinks were professionally made, our server/hostess Eleni was a pleasure to chat with and Jordan even hung out with us as we swapped restaurant stories (I have background in the game) and had a great night. The stuffed squash blossoms and the mushroom cakes were a great start. The mushroom cakes were super unique, substantial, yet not heavy and really flavorful. We decided to have our entrees ala family style and split the chicken parmigiana, the Delmonico boneless ribeye and the rack of lamb. All were cooked to perfection and tasty. The steak melted in your mouth as Chef has lots of experience with steaks from his days in NYC. The chicken parm was also a star and make anyone with Italian roots nod in approval. The side of creamed spinach was a gooey treat to boot. There was no room for dessert after this feast, but the amuse/palate cleanser between the appetizers and entrees also hit the spot. Had the best customer service experience I have ever had from any restaurant. I called early afternoon for a table for 8. At first, there was no answer. I was called back 5 minutes later. Alas, no room for my party of 8 guests. They are booked 2 weeks out for a large group. Within 10 minutes, chef Jordan had called me back and would accommodate us, he'll do some rearranging of tables. Who does that? I've never had a restaurant call me back to accommodate a large party. Everyone enjoyed their food immensely. A beef Wellington ( their take on it), filet mignons, salmon, chicken dinners, each prepared to order and unique in preparation and plating. This restaurant has it all. Great cocktails, delicious appetizers, entrees that were exceptional and french pressed coffee, served with rock candy sizzlers and real cream. This was the second time we had a great sit down dinner at Chef Jordan's restaurant. Previous time was in New Paltz a couple years ago and now the resraurant has moved to a new location which is much bigger and more beautiful. Hellen was our server tonight and she was awesome! We had the meatballs to start and an unbelievable beet salad. But that was just a warm-up for an awesome entrée! The lobster and scallops was so fresh and the mustard cod was to die for. Had the pleasure of sitting w chef at the end of the night and thanked him for all this wonderful food. It was great to sit with him again and understand what he's gone through these last few months with restricted dining and how he's able to overcome the challenges in these desperate times. I didn't mind my experience at this restaurant. But at the end of the night there were just too many "toos" for it to rate higher.... the wait was "too long" for a table and for food. Especially when a couple who came after us got their appetizers before us. That's a huge No-No. No one was there to greet us when we came in. Ok. But then there was a very long wait during which we decided to get menus for ourselves and seat ourselves by the bar. Then we were asked twice if we had reservations although we were assured twice that it was no big deal if we didn't..they just wanted to know. I found the meatballs to be "too salty" and the duck dish slightly "too sweet". After another long wait for the check, the final exchange with the waitress was just too awkward. She gave me an additional 6 or 7 bucks in change. I realized it and started walking to the back to give her the change back only to hear her awkward exchange with the owner about it. She turned to me and told me she gave me excess money. At that point I stated to her, I know that's why I'm walking back to you to return it. I just don't know why she couldn't come back and say I gave you the wrong change? There were some highlights.... Bread with honey butter was a nice surprise. The mushroom cakes are as good as they say. Decor was cool. I wonder if the limited options in town contribute to the high rating. read more

Whenever my family is upstate we go here. The best restaurant we have been to in years. Including Manhattan and Brooklyn. Chef Jordan treats the menu like a palette. Each item is given his own spin. He also makes weekly changes to the menu which is exciting for us. We have ordered just about everything on the menu and have not been disappointed yet. We are always blown away. You can tell this is a passion restaurant and the chef loves what he does. We always take family and friends here and Jordan and Helen always makes us feel more than welcome each time we go. End Cut occupies the building that formally housed The Global Palate and Marcel's, two of the areas better restaurants of a certain time. I'll begin by saying everything we ate at our table was excellent. End Cut seems to be primarily a steakhouse but offers several entrees besides steak. Our meal began with what's billed as a classic Cesar salad...it was. Freshly baked dinner rolls to be spread with fresh ricotta and honey or herb infused olive oil were warm and delicious. A 16oz. strip steak was perfectly cooked as was a double cut pork chop. A cod fish special was fresh and simply prepared. Dessert was a perfect creme brulee. The wines are listed and priced as 30 for $30, 5 for $50, etc. Good bargains for some nice wines. That strip steak was a great bargain as well. But the service (insert head slap here)... Upon our arrival (the place was packed) the young man at the door eventually found our reservation. We were ushered to our table where my wife stepped on a pile of broken glass. The diner at the next table informed our host that a runner broke the glass a while ago and never returned to clean it up. When the rest of our party arrived we ordered drinks. They never made it to our table although plenty of excuses for their absence did. Apparently the bartender was new. We ordered a bottle of wine which did arrive promptly. The waiter, a nice, affable kid, had no knowledge concerning wine service as red wine dribbled on the white tablecloth with each pour. After the salads our waiter placed teaspoons on the table and said with a grin, "a nice surprise was coming". One of our table mates was sure they'd be comping us something on account of the previous SNAFU's. As the evening ended we wondered what happened to the surprise. We asked the waiter who sheepishly admitted he forgot to serve the blood orange sorbet that comes between courses. It's pretty obvious End Cut needs a floor manager and a staff that knows how to serve. A good restaurant is more than just good food. End Cut has only been opened about 6 months as I write this. We'll give them a few more months to work things out. It would be a shame if they do not. read more

After a cocktail and beer, we moved to our table with our friends Steve and Debbie and learned about their delicious specials for the night from our server Steffan. He was informative and patient - we needed to hear the specials twice! Helen and Gianluca were also very attentive to our table. The food was amazing, one of the best steaks and pork chops we've had in the Hudson Valley! I had the absolute pleasure of dining at End Cut !! I'm from Long Island but had business up that way on Saturday evening. I was on a solo mission with the intent to kill some time ? And fate brought me here ! I knew from the minute I walked in it was going to be a wonderful experience! I was warmly greeted by Eileen the bartender / waitress / Jane of all trades ! I sat at the bar and had an amazing filet mignon and also a wedge salad. Both of which were delish !! Matthew was tending bar as well. He was equally personable and qualified and I enjoyed our conversations. The owner/chef Jordan made the rounds making sure everyone was satisfied. He took the time to chat with all the customers! Myself included ! He came across as a hard working man who really takes pride in his business ! He should be proud ? His attention to detail is noticed in every aspect of his establishment ! Food is Great. The service is not great. Our drinks stayed empty too long. The bar tender talks to much and doesn't pay attention to what he's really there for. The server is tending too many tables to keep up with demand. They only have one server, a bar tender and two young kids bussing. Be prepared to wait a long time for good food. You pay for the food quality. Which makes the slow service even more annoying. This was not the first time we have come here and had this issue. At first I thought it was new kinks of opening but now I doubt we will return. To the owner: hire more staff. No matter how great your food is, it doesn't make up for the bad service. read more

Firstly, these reviews are extremely misleading! Ate here this past weekend because of everyone's raving reviews and had a dreadful experience. Service was horrible - There was no one greeting patrons upon arrival. The service was VERY slow with one guy who was not particularly friendly working a handful of tables. By "working a handful of tables" I mean: This guy was running around like crazy, table to table, barely completing sentences before he was running away to the next table. There appeared to be two other employees playing the part of severs/bussers so the problem with the ridiculously long wait for dishes to come out came from the kitchen not being able to keep up. I think they purposefully make you wait so that by the time your food arrives you're so hungry you fail to realize how unappealingly and terrible it is. Everything with the exception of the bread and butter; a surprisingly delicious blood orange sorbet (complimentary due to our 30-40 minute wait in between our appetizer and entrees) and an apple tartin (NOT made in-house) was disappointing. -Mushroom cakes over avocado purée - Seriously wanted to love this but no, just no. Dull. Flavorless. -Scallops with Mushroom risotto - The risotto was the wrong consistency and texture and the scallops topping it, although cooked well, were flavorless. -Mascarpone/cauliflower ravioli in pistachio pesto - Unless the chef forgot the basil-this was no pesto. He may have forgotten the Mascarpone as well. Tasted nothing but pistachio. Our meals were completely tasteless. Had to ask for salt and pepper to make our dishes edible. Saw two other tables do the same. It was a pretty simple menu, not sure how it could be so poorly executed. Deeply regret dining here, will never go back and I do not suggest you eat here either-It was not a cheap meal, your money is better spent elsewhere. read more

We've been here several times, and it is consistently outstanding! I had the Escargot in wild Mushroom cream sauce as an appy. It was a special and is not on the menu. It was a 5 star dish for sure. Everything was balanced well, and the escargot was tender and perfect. My wife had the Salmon entree, and she said it was the best salmon she's had in along time.
