As others have stated, they came recommended by friends in the industry. I did my homework and got a few competing offers and ended up going with energy guys as 1) the pricing was in the same ball park as the others, 2) they added on duct sealing, and 3) they offered efficiency to help assess and prevent losses in the system. My home is 50 years old and had very little and very old cellulose insulation. I supplemented up to R38. They found a few areas that needed improvement and got the system to around 90% efficient, which was pretty shocking. All of the above aside, the part that impressed me is that they workers stayed here to make sure it was done right and didn't try to duck out early. Pretty impressive these days. I'd go with these guys again and will definitely give em a shout when it's time to replace my old 5 ton unit with a more efficient option. read more

Energy Guys successfully turned a very happy customer into an angry and upset customer who cannot in good conscience ever recommend them. The good: the install team was very courteous and prompt and did a great job with all of the tasks that we had agreed on. The bad: Jeff Blackburn was a nightmare to deal with. Part of the deal was to get Austin Energy rebates for my install. It's been three months and despite calling every week for the past month, leaving a multitude of voice mail messages, emailing every email contact I have for them, I have yet to have them respond to get my Austin Energy rebate scheduled. I have literally not gotten a single word from them after a dozen messages to their answering service and a dozen emails to Jeff. I know that Jeff personally has responded to several yelp reviews, so I'm left with leaving one star reviews and hopefully that will get his attention. Otherwise, I'll be off to small claims court to see if I can recoup my rebate that I never got. The filing fee is $100 and it looks like that will be far less painful than trying to get Jeff Blackburn to respond to me. read more

When we bought our house, we realized that the front bedroom was a bit warmer/colder than the rest of the house. Even though we had a energy audit that told us the house was okay, we knew the warmer room and things identified in the audit would require some more expert people to come and look at it, so I called. The guy that came was very informative and told me that I had a Frankenstein system and my furnace would fail in the next five years so not to invest too much in fixing it. He provided me information on windows and other contact people. At the end, he said the best thing to do was seal around my air things. I said great and asked for him to send me a quote. He confirmed my email address and said I'd get it in a day or so. Yeah, it's been a year and never heard back even though I followed up. For that, they lose 2 stars. read more

Tis the season to write Yelp reviews! I am sitting down today to post so long-overdue reviews and Energy Guys was at the top of my list. I bought a new home in August 2013. The home inspector explained that the insulation in the attic was quite sub-par. Around January 2014 I decided something needed to be done because, if you remember, last winter was colder than Walt Disney's rotting corpse. I made a consultation appointment with Energy Guys and when Mike came to my house, I asked him to please sit down at my computer and read over the list of recommended services that I had been given by the thorough home inspector before I closed on the house. Mike was happy to do so. After paying close attention to that information, he did his own incredibly thorough inspection. He gave me all the information I needed and suggested I take some time to review it and then schedule an appointment to have it completed if I wished. There was no hard-sell at all. I love that. Sometimes I will avoid purchasing out of spite after being given the hard-sell. So the guys who came out were absolutely great. I should have written this review earlier. They were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. They seemed like they really enjoyed working for Energy Guys and believed in the company. The boss came out too about halfway through the process to make sure everything was going smoothly and ask if I had any questions. Only one issue that was however rectified immediately. Months later, when the weather started getting really hot again, I turned on the a/c and it only blew room temperature air. I called my home warranty company and they sent a guy out who saw that one of the plugs on the outside a/c unit was plugged into the wrong spot. It was a simple fix but a real drag to have to pay the $60.00 warranty fee. I emailed Energy Guys about it and they took responsibility and right away mailed me a $60.00 check to reimburse me. Would other companies do that? I'm not going to bother trying to find out because I am sticking with Energy Guys. read more

Had a great experience with Energy Guys! I called about getting a quote for new insulation in our home, and someone was able to come out two days later. He was extremely thorough, explained everything to me, made some suggestions to things I could DIY on my own to improve my efficiency, and was still conscious of my time so I could get back to the office. When he emailed me the quote, it was a bit more than I had prepared to spend, so he worked with me on the price and made some adjustments to the work that would be done. One week later, the workers arrived on time to start our new insulation install. They were professional, polite, and thorough. It took them nearly all day, but didn't once complain or lose patience. They were mindful of the doors and windows they were opening (because of the cat) and always kept me informed of what they were doing and what the next step was. They were informative and included me in everything, and again, pointed out some simple DIY projects I could do on my own. I would recommend them to anyone needing to improve their home's efficiency in any way. Everyone from the girl you talk to when you call for an appointment, to the techs coming out to complete the work... everyone is patient and friendly. It's very hard to reach them on the phone. I left 5 messages and never got a call back. When I did talk to the lady on the phone, she said she never got my messages. It was very frustrating trying to schedule a day for them to come out and work. When they did come out, they could have finished the job in one day, but decided to take 2 hour lunch instead. After they got back from lunch they packed up and I had a frustrating time getting scheduled for them to come back out. When they did, someone called in sick so they had to find someone to come and they were very late getting here which messed up my schedule for the day. The work that they did do was fine. I just didn't like how I couldn't get a return phone call. read more

I wish we had another house for these guys to work on. That's what a pleasure it was to work with Jeff and his crew. Here are some things that impressed us the most: Jeff really knows his stuff. He designed a whole new system for our energy-leaking, wildly-inefficient house. We are talking: drawings on white boards, numerous visits with strange beeping equipment and space-age radar apps, and exhaustive research and explanations and models and on and on. In the weeks leading up to our overhaul, he must have showed up at least four times, just to answer questions. We would email him and say, 'We don't understand this part' and he would say, 'Let me drop by and explain it.' He knows all about the inspections and inspectors, the rebates, etc. He takes care of all of it. They did a massive amount of work, tore out all of our old broken ducts, redesigned our entire attic and duct system, hauled off our 5 ton unit, did all the insulation and vent and sealing stuff, and so much more. It was quite funny to have them crawling around inside the walls. It took three long days and they were extremely professional, clean, polite, punctual, careful the entire time. Jeff was in and out constantly, acting like our house was his baby. The work they did was masterful. We were so unhappy with our old system, we weren't even using the downstairs much, and now all the rooms are comfortable. And they even reduced the size of our unit, from 5 ton to 4 ton, and still increased airflow or whatever by some huge percentage. The difference is remarkable. Also Jeff is just the real deal. Completely has his head and heart in this work. We went into this thinking we were going to be so entirely bored by the whole project that we might need to be resuscitated, but he made it an adventure. read more

Each of our appointments with Energy Guys was thorough and informative. They spent a lot of time assessing our system and then even more time patiently answering all my questions. We received 3 quotes for a full replacement of our system and Energy Guys was the least expensive and also the most thorough quote and definitely the most knowledgable crew. In order to get solar panels installed I needed an energy audit and possible HVAC updates so the research ensued to find a company. I got Energy Guys off the Austin Energy site for energy audits along with 3 other companies. Their energy audit was very thorough ~ I asked a million questions and every one of them was answered knowledgeably & professionally. The follow up written quote was very comprehensive and spelled out everything in detail. I had the entire HVAC unit replaced (inside and out) as well as all the ducts/vents in the attic. They added more insulation throughout the attic and repositioned the bathroom vent. My house is just over 1000 sqft. The first day of work started on time, the 3 man crew worked tirelessly all day and communicated details and questions along the way. Even though I have concrete floors, they put down tarps and kept the mess to a minimum. My ac unit was 30+ years old, filthy and a pain in the ass to remove, however when they packed up after 10 hours of work, and you wouldn't even know they were there. The second day of installment was just as long, the crew worked the entire time, problem solving and testing airflow. They also sealed all pipes under bathroom cabinets/sink as well as weather stripped outside doors. The only glitch in this process is working with Austin Energy and their inane schedule! To get the rebates for this process, AE has to physically ok the initial quote at your home, then they have to come back and inspect the work. They give you less than 24 hour notice! I was notified by Energy Guys via email that AE would be coming the next day, however I hadn't accessed my email until late that night. Still waiting my last inspection... All in all the entire process was $10,500. With all the cold, rainy weather my house is tight! I have a quiet unit with clean ducts and just has my solar panels installed. Jeff and Energy Guys replaced both of my a/c units back in 2012. Was very happy with the work so I called them again for air sealing and weatherization on a new rental property that I purchased. Jeff came out and spent quite a bit of time walking through the property pointing out issues/potential issues and recommending solutions. Well don't trust such a crucial system to just any company: Call the Energy Guys -- they are as good as it gets, I promise you. Everyone we have interacted with through this company is friendly, professional, and well qualified. And the best part? THEY'RE COMPETITIVELY PRICED! How many companies give you five star treatment at an affordable price point? Hardly any. But Energy Guys does, every time. Before calling Energy Guys at the end of summer last year, I had estimates from ABC, Lowe's, and Sears -- ALL quoted higher than Energy Guys and none of them were as courteous and knowledgable as Energy Guys are. Mike is the first Guy who came over to our house to give the estimate. He's the exact opposite of all the sales-y types who had been in our house previously -- Mike quietly went about the inspection, took photos for illustration, and spent a generous amount of time explaining why we had such ridiculously high energy bills and what they could do to help us. Energy Guys definitely deserve five stars, I would give them 11 if I could. These guys just get it. Every single person was incredibly knowledgeable; they have saving energy down to a science, literally. I got four different quotes for attic insulation and duct sealing and Energy Guys was by far the best in quality, customer service, knowledge, and PRICE. Mike Pell did my free in home estimate that was so thorough I had to check the website to make sure it was free while he was working. He knew his stuff and gave me great recommendations for my home, along with a lengthy breakdown document that was very informative. He also explained to me that they would handle ALL of the rebate paperwork with the city. I am getting a sizable rebate and I have done zero paperwork for it. Daniel, Julio, and Raul did the actual work on my home and they were fantastic. Daniel was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I'm usually someone who asks too many questions about the work being done to the point of annoyance, but Daniel answered all of my questions and actually took it a step further by showing me the nuts of bolts of their work and the equipment they used. My house is very old and held together with duct tape, and they did a lot of additional work on my duct system that I'm positive would have cost me money elsewhere. Had Mike Pell from Energy Guys conduct an energy audit. Mike found some areas that needed improvement. I had them improve on two of his suggestions. On the day of service two of his technicians showed up on time. They reviewed the work to be done with me and explained how they were going to go about improving the energy efficenty of my home. They added insulation and sealed the duct work in my home. They they pressure tested the duct work and my home. It took about 8 hours to complete. If something was not to my satisfaction they worked with me to take care of the issue. They cleaned up after themselves (something that many companies don't do or do poorly). We didn't have any huge complaints to bring them out, but we noticed it was hotter in one room vs. the rest of the house. After an inspection, it was found that we had no insulation above the room and no way to easily access it! Energy Guys were recommended by Revolve Solar, the company we chose to install a solar panel system on our house. In order to qualify for the solar rebate, the house must meet energy efficiency specifications set by the city. Energy Guys came and sealed all our vents and plumbing fixtures and added insulation to the attic, added carbon monoxide detectors and made sure all smoke detectors were functioning. The team that did the work were extremely professional and courteous, showing me all the improvements they had made and what they were doing to contribute to the efficiency of the home. I suspect we will pass the inspection and I will update this review when this happens. I can highly recommend this company. read more

Awesome customer service! Meant to write a review back two years ago when they installed my new system. Though they weren't the cheapest, they were the most professional in their analysis, presentation and delivery. Needed a minor adjustment after about a month, and they were quick to respond. But the reason I finally got around to writing this review is what happened last Friday. About 4p my a/c quit working. With little hope of getting it fixed before or during the weekend, I called Energy Guys hoping beyond hope. Initially was told it would be Monday before they could get out because they were still working on an install and didn't have anybody else available. I begged a little and was told they would try to get by Saturday morning, but that they would call me back to confirm. Long story short, I got a call back saying that it might be after dark, but that they would send someone out when their install was completed. Sure enough, Jeff showed up about 8:30p on Friday, and was finished by 10p (took a while to diagnose the problem). Anyway, these guys (and gals) go above and beyond in customer service! Absolutely excellent. Every single person I came in contact with from start to finish of this project was personable, knowledgeable, and completely invested in their work. They liked their jobs, and they enjoyed explaining how things work. We've worked with lots of companies, on lots of home projects. Without reservation, Energy Guys are in the very top percentile. Mike came out to the house to take a full account of what needed to be done. I was really impressed with how much time he took to break down and explain all of the components that must work in tandem for a fully efficient heating and cooling system. He didn't try to oversell. He laid out good / better / best options, and was forthright about which additional items our particular home would truly benefit from and which items were less crucial. We got quotes from two other companies, both of which we'd worked with before and liked very much, but the proposal from Energy Guys was the best bang for the buck, and I felt the most comfortable working with them. The work began on time, and finished the following day ahead of schedule. The whole crew, Jay and Pedro in particular, were truly terrific to work with. Super knowledgeable, courteous, and really enthusiastic about keeping us informed on the progress of the project as it went along. Those guys are completely on top of their game. It makes a massive difference on any sort of big project like this, that is taking place inside your home, when people come in and are unflaggingly respectful and considerate of you. There was one snag, which was not Energy Guys' fault. The model of unit that was to go up into our attic had just been updated by the manufacturer, and unbeknownst to Energy Guys, was now being made a few inches wider. As result, it was now inches wider than our attic door would allow. Jeff, the owner, came in and was completely on top of this. He offered to switch to the next unit down, which would fit. Or, in order to stick with the higher-end one we wanted, they could cut a hole in our ceiling through which to get the unit up into the attic and then, free of charge, have the ceiling patched, drywalled and painted to match perfectly. We opted for this. His drywall guy, Rudy, came straight out and did a masterful job of matching the ceiling texture and paint color. It was flawless. The guy was an artist! You can tell a lot about a company by how they handle it when things aren't going to plan, and it was impressive how coolly and quickly they took care of this situation. It is now a few weeks later, and our home feels appreciably better than it did before. The air flow room-to-room throughout the home is so much better. Our upstairs now is the same temperature as our downstairs, a huge change! And the whole system is amazingly whisper quiet. Having a system overhaul done like this is a big expense, as well as a big learning curve for most people, myself certainly included. All the way through, Energy Guys kept both of those important points in mind. We can't recommend them higher! Super job! UPDATE 3.15.17 Our system still works great after 2 years. Every time we've had a question, we've received fast and thorough replies. I just called yesterday about an error message that came up on my display related to the furnace. Jeff walked me through what I could do on my own to fix the issue, in order to save the money for a service call. That's pretty cool! read more

These guys are the real deal in town - my friend owns a dance studio and Energy Guys solved their long-standing A/C issues - so naturally she recommended them to me. I got my whole A/C system replaced along with the ducts and vents, which they designed, and the air distribution came out perfectly on testing. It all starts from the owner - Jeff is passionate about building sciences, he went out of the way discussing the pros and cons of different choices made. He also guided me all the way to get the Austin Energy rebates and set the ball rolling on the loan process. It doesn't end there, however. We recently bought a relatively old home that we knew we wanted to make more efficient. We decided to get the ducts sealed and insulation added and chose Energy Guys. Pedro and Mike came out and worked from 9am to 11:30pm! I don't believe they even ate lunch or dinner. The house turned out to be a bigger challenge but Pedro and Mike tackled it head on. Excellent service and unparalleled attention to detail. Mike was professional and knew exactly what my problem was. He gave me a detailed proposal and was able to describe exactly what the process would be. It was a complicated bid involving rebuilding the plenum in 3 out of 4 systems and having to reroute the duct work. I was very impressed with the level of knowledge everyone in the company had about the products. The installation was quick, efficient, and they cleaned up every little piece of trash and insulation. I'd give more stars if I could. I wanted to add insulation and seal ductwork in a recently purchased home. The house was already in good shape, but I wanted to push insulation and sealing a little further. Three contractors gave somewhat similar bids, but Energy Guys hands down provided more information, answered questions more completely, and in the end, the two service guys (Daniel and Julio) showed up as scheduled, got right to work, did everything and more they'd contracted to do, and left the house clean and now much better insulated and with ductwork much better sealed. These guys are the bomb. Period. Nick called me back promptly after I called them and left a message about our AC unit not working. Pedro came out and looked at it the same day and though the diagnosis wasn't good, made sure I understood what was wrong with the unit and what my options were. Ultimately, because we've had multiple issues with our unit since moving into our house, we decided to go with a brand new install. Mike then emailed me a super detailed quote with three tiers of options for a new unit. I went with the middle tier which was a 3-ton Bryant unit. Pedro also suggested we get rid of the zoned system we had since it wasn't doing anything for us in cooling our house down. They also installed a Nest thermostat which we LOVE. After two weeks, we've noticed a HUGE difference. The humidity in our house is consistently around 44% and we can set the temp to 76 and feel completely comfortable, when with our old unit we had to keep it at 72 to feel comfortable. And, I just got our electric bill today and it's $120 CHEAPER. These guys absolutely know what they're doing and made the process as painless as possible. They re-sealed our house, re-insulated the attics, and re-routed a duct for us to get optimal airflow and efficiency.
