This business might just be better suited for contractors doing spec homes, decorators who have done lighting and know what fits where. Everyone there was extremely nice, kind, attentive, always helpful and friendly. When you tell the associate what you're looking for and emphasize bright bright, bright lights lots and lots of light each time you meet up that should tell them what is needed. Also understanding lumens to watts is a necessary component in new lighting which I honestly did not understand. Telling the associate you need the equivalent of 360+ watts. I felt they would be able to calculate that for me. Stock canned lighting was excellent. Outdoor lighting worked out very well. Bathroom lighting did not work well. Lumens to watts is difficult to understand. We missed the mark entirely. Remember to ask about returns and restocking fees before you purchase. That can mount up, also surcharges and freight charges, if you need to return items. We get used to returns at big box stores, who will take just about anything back. Remember, which I did not, that small businesses have to do business differently. They don't write off losses like big box stores. However, the young man who helped me did everything he could to help me-above and beyond. I would return to this business if I knew exactly what I wanted, had seen it installed, and understood the amount of light rendered. The owner also reached out to offer additional help. This is a business that cares about your experience and how they can improve their customer service. Energy Plus Lighting was kind enough to reimburse me for a portion of what I lost from restocking fees and some freight charges. I like supporting local businesses- why? It's necessary to help our county's economy stay strong. I'm now more aware of caveats that are part of small business issues. Ask questions which I did not. read more

I attempted to buy window shades from this business. The couple who run this business are dishonest. The woman does the lighting and the husband manages the window shades. After waiting eight months for the shades and numerous excuses from the owners we cancelled the order. The owner instead of being apologetic about taking so long to get the shades instead tells us we are not allowed to cancel and if we attempt to cancel the order he will take us to court. My recommendation is to stay away from this business at all costs. read more

Great experience working with Amy and Nikki at Energy Plus. We bought a 1950's home in Santa Rosa and needed lots of recessed lighting fixtures. They had a great price on the Nora led cans and so we bought like 20 of them. All items were in stock and in great condition. I also bought an under cabinet led lighting setup with the transformer built into the dimmer switch. It has performed very well. Amy is a very knowledgeable sales rep; I feel like she could almost be an electrician! She pulled up the 20/20 schematics from our kitchen cabinet plans and picked the best under cabinet lighting setup for our needs. I've purchased items from these folks that they have on hand. That was fine. I've sent clients there to buy fixtures and they've had to wait for weeks to get the item. I've placed orders with them for items they could not fulfill but their customer service systems were so anemic that it took three weeks of me calling to find out they couldn't deliver on the order. Just terrible systems and, as a result, disappointed customers. I wish they were better: we don't have a ton of alternatives out here. read more

This is a great lighting store in Santa Rosa. They have a lot in stock which is very helpful if you find yourself in the middle of a remodel and need something "special - not big box store ready" quickly. The staff is very friendly. Ouch. Went into the store and was there to ask questions and get input on possible solutions for our remodel. We have not been able to work out a solution for lighting the kitchen (enough lighting, Title 24 compliance, product lines to look at, pricing, etc). We have several major design constraints including zero head space in the ceiling to put in recessed lighting or even J-boxes. Hoping that one of the people at this store could help us work out a plan. Was I wrong! I believe that I talked with one of the owners of the business and I was treated like an incompetent idiot. The only suggestion that was given was to rebuild the roof or install lighting that was NOT Title 24 compliant and then either convince the inspector that it was okay or change it out after the permit is finaled. Really? That is the best we can do? The person "helping" me was frustrated when I would bring up design constraints but was not willing to work with me to look at solutions and finally WALKED AWAY and left me alone at the table. I am a home owner/ builder who used to work in commercial lighting industry and construction experience. I am a project manager, engineer, and product manager. I went to an "expert" for advice and was condescended to and treated like I was not good enough to even be in the building because I was not accepting the first suggestion out of this guys mouth as gospel. I sent a follow up e mail to get a quote put together on a solution that I was able to devise and the owner threw it back at me and told me that I was the problem and I was not welcome in the store any more. WOW. really? for trying to find information as a customer and then voicing a concern about customer service? For questioning his solution of completely REDESIGNING THE ENTIRE PROJECT JUST FOR THE LIGHTS that would have doubled the cost of the construction project? When I am working on a design project, I FIRST figure out constraints and find solutions around them, but He did not want to find out or deal with any of them until I had created an ideal space for him to work with. DO NOT GIVE THESE GUYS YOUR BUSINESS. If you are another stuck up and know it all designer, this is probably the amount of "I am better than you in every way" place that is right up your alley. Otherwise, STAY FAR FAR AWAY and heed the other reviews on this Yelp site. I wish I would have. Customer service is terrible. Don't know how or why these guys are even in business. read more

I'm really quite surprised that this store received a one star rating and that no other reviews have been provided. I'm an architect and this is where I send all of my clients - because, when you go in with your plan, and an idea of what it is you want to accomplish, they are not only very knowledgeable and congenial, they will provide the up and down sides of the selection along with good alternatives. Not everyone needs a lighting system, and although Jerry (owner) is a wiz at this stuff, they recognize that not everyone wants to be a technocrat. They just don't push it.
