We found this place by pure luck, thanks to a Google search for a place to at 11:30 pm. We started out somewhere else, but thank goodness it was WAY too loud and offered no vegan options for my friend. Engine No. 9 looks like a tiny hole in the wall, but the service and food we phenomenal! I ordered The Saint - sadly I didn't think to take a picture of it, but I think it was the best looking "burger" I've ever seen. My husband got the Black and Blue and loved every bite. My vegan friend got the Lizzie and said it was amazing. Other two friends with us got bacon burgers, and same thing. Portions were beyond satisfactory. The waitress was attentive without hovering. This is my favorite burger bar in the Tampa Bay Area. Parking can be tricky and it's really busy on the weekends but if you can get past that, the burgers are amazing! This past weekend I had the Saginaki burger, and the feta cheese was just a little toasted, making it crispy and even more delicious on my perfectly cooked medium burger. I enjoyed the Pinball APA this trip and it paired perfectly with my burger and tots. Lots of great craft beer choices and even a few cider choices if that's your choice. Last but not least are the wings. They're the perfect combination of spicy, crispy and juiciness you'd want to get in a wing, and they are my favorite wings in the area. Tried this placed based on Tampa bay foodie reviews FB page. Yes, it was dark as stated in other reviews. It was a hard choice because there are so many different burger concoctions. My hubby chose the saganaki greek burger dressed with saganaki cheese, feta, kalamata olives and Tzatziki sauce. He loved it. I opted for the Demi-God which was topped with cheddar, Swiss, mushrooms and grilled onions (No onions for me). Ask for extra napkins, although I used a fork and knife. The burgers were very good. One of the best? Yes, maybe top 10. However, based on the price - which was $70 for two for lunch with tip, probably not. Maybe if it were closer, but I wouldn't hurry from Seminole to eat here again. If they had beer specials or maybe a burger of the month then maybe. We spent $25 alone on 2 beers a piece. Don't plan to plop at the bar, throw back a few beers and watch a full football game without spending some dough. They did not offer a military or local discount -we always ask. My daughter and I stopped in on the way back from Tampa Airport and I'd like to say the other reviewers are right ... except we didn't have burgers. She had duck wings (super hot and fresh) and chicken salad, and I had the wedge salad with blackened shrimp. This restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks when walking in the front door. There are ample tables in the back and every table has a TV, in case you don't want to sit at the big, comfortable bar. The reviews on these burgers probably got me overly excited. The burgers were good. However, I ordered my burger medium rare and it came back medium well. The same thing happened to my wife. They may have made it right if we complained, but we were hungry. The burgers have a nice variety of toppings. It's great to see so many options. I got a black flag burger and added lettuce with a side of tots. The burger itself was really good and pretty big that I almost didn't finish it. Loved that tots were an option for sides that come with a burger and I wasn't charged for the lettuce. I personally had trouble choosing a burger because I couldn't find one that completely stood out to me if I'm being honest, but I was incredibly happy with my choice. Also, went with a group of 8. We had the fried pickle spears, and they came out piping hot with a nice jalepeno ranch. My husband ordered the van helsing burger. He enjoyed it, but could only eat half. I ordered the resurrection burger. It was wet and spicy and delicious and all of the amazing things I didn't know I was craving. I don't know, but I think this may be the best burger I've ever eaten. This restaurant is very easy to get to, has a convenient parking lot attached, gender neutral restrooms, a large bar, and a huge assortment of beers from around the world. I imagine it's a good place to drink beers (not a fan). They also have tvs at every table with your own remote to change the channels which is kind of fun. I had the shrimp burger which was nicely filled with shrimp and tasted good, but it wasn't great. The bill was $80 for 4 burgers, 4 fries, and 4 sodas? Yikes! I don't know about you but I feel odd paying $20 for a burger and fries. Believe me I don't mind paying for good food but I cant wrap my mind around that price unless maybe if it was a lobster burger. I hate to say it, but this entire place didn't impress me from the moment I walked in the door with our party of 8 celebrating a graduation. No tables could be moved together so we sit as a group. Thus, we sat 8 people around the bar; hard to have a conversation with someone at the other end. Now, onto the food. Lots of hamburger selections. Since I'm not a fan of burgers, I chose a chili dog. No thickness to the hot dog, just long and skinny which gives a lot of bread in your mouth when taking a bite (not much in the way of hot dog to add to the bun.) The hot dog was topped with chili and cheese and served with fried tater tots. I disliked the hot dog, so I ate about half of it. The fried tater toters were hot and tasty. This was our 1st visit so we ordered 2 different burgers and shared them. The Bacon cheeseburger is a pretty typical bacon cheeseburger with good meat. We also ordered the The Saint Burger which also has fried chicken, fried potato pancake, braised onion with mustard and like a brown gravy. This one tasted more like a chicken fried chicken/steak dinner that would normally be plated with mashed potatoes. It was a tall burger and really a bit much. Sides were tasty fried and bacon baked beans. The beans were good but nothing out of the ordinary. Their menu is mostly burgers, with a selection of hot dogs and a few entree platters and appetizers. This place is mostly a big bar with a few tables along the wall and a back room with 8 tables. Good for groups of 5 or less otherwise you will dine apart. Oh my yum! We visited Engine No. 9 after having had burgers on our mind all day. Being picky burger eaters, I'm delighted to report that No. 9 did not disappoint! We had the macho tater tots to start which were very good. I ordered the Border Line burger and wow. It was perfectly cooked and the dressings were perfectly paired. The burgers are a good size, and I was full half way through (how I even finished the burger I don't even know... it was that good.) The restaurant itself isn't too big and each booth has it's on private TV which was great for watching the football game that we were interested. They serve a number of craft beers and their selection is pretty deep. The only thing that didn't make this place 5 stars for me was our server. She did her job fine, but wasn't very nice. Stopped into Engine No. 9 for lunch before a long trip back to Miami. Ordered the One Bad Pig Burger with a side of Sweet Potato Fries. Quality Engine No. 9 dedicates an entire side of its menu to burgers, and for good reason. The burgers are delicious. They have more than twenty options with more combinations than anyone could ever need. I almost ordered the Resurrection, which is all kinds of spicy, but with a bit of an upset stomach I chose instead to get the One Bad Pig Burger. Covered with garlic pork, white cheddar, mustard braised onion, fried pancetta, and chipotle mayo, it is the kind of burger where the toppings alone would make for a tasty sandwich. The burger itself is made of prime black angus beef and it was cooked absolutely perfectly. The flavors melded together amazingly and my only criticism would be slather on some more of that chipotle mayo. The burger comes with a choice of sides, I went with the Sweet Potato Fries. They were just okay, but after seeing the tater tots, I realized I made a mistake. Quantity The burger patty itself is 8oz, but you get a whole lot more once the toppings are piled on. Paired with a side, it makes for a hearty lunch. Value The burgers ranged from $12 to $15 depending on toppings. Maybe a little high for a burger, but based on the quality and the creativity, worthy of the price. Ambiance Engine No. 9 is located towards the western end of downtown St. Petersburg. It is very much a sports bar and is a great place to watch a game. The front area of the space is dedicated to the bar itself. It is a rectangular bar with seats around all the edges and several televisions visibly from each one. They also have high tops along the wall that also provide good views. However, we chose to sit at a table in the backroom. They have about seven standard tables in a small room. This room has a television dedicated to each table along with a remote so the table can decide what game to watch. They also had an additional major game playing from a projector on the wall. As someone who likes teams that are not the most popular, the ability to put on the game I wanted was amazing. Crowd It was Saturday afternoon and a full slate of games were on, so the place was busy. People were huddled around the televisions at each table and the bar area was about half full. Many people had on college colors and jerseys. It seems like a very good place to watch a game. Service I felt the backroom was a little neglected during my visit. By virtue of being a room out of sight from where the waitresses would hang out, it seemed to not get much attention. Since I wanted to watch a little football before hitting the road it was no problem, but it may be an issue for someone trying to get in and out. Parking On the weekend finding a street spot was no problem at all. The restaurant is pretty close to Tropicana Field, so when the Rays play or during an event, it may be a bit trickier. Extra Engine No. 9 is a solid burger joint and a decent sports bar. Good food and solid prices, along with the the ability to control the game you watch, those are all huge pluses in my book.
