Great service. We contacted him for a quote on moving a couch on short notice and he got back to us with a reasonable price. When moving day came, he was there 10 minutes early at the pickup location. We had to get the couch around a tricky corner and down a flight of stairs in the process. Total move took about 45 minutes including 15 minutes of driving time. He was polite, responsive, and knew the area & streets very well (Brooklyn Heights & Carroll Gardens). I had the worst service with Man with a Van serving Brooklyn this past friday (Aug 1). I work for a real estate agent and we hired Man with a Van to help unpack one of our clients on their move in day. I initially called them because I say their rating and believed them to be professional and reliable. I called 3 days earlier to schedule the move with was supposed to take 2 men to help unpack 1 bedroom apartment worth of items from the truck into the house. They did not even have to help with the transportation. The person I spoke to told me to write an email indicating all of the details which I did. (2 labor men to move items from a truck into an apartment. scheduled for 3pm Friday August 1st. Their compensation was included and the name of the client they would be receiving it from. I even called back to confirm they received the email. They said they have received the email and we were confirmed for Friday. Friday, 3pm is approaching and I call to confirm they will be arriving. 3pm comes and they are not there. 3:15pm comes and the client arrives. 3:30pm and the movers are still not there. By this time I am calling them and they are telling me I am getting transferred, and I get hung up on. Told me I was going on hold, and I get hung up on. I finally get the number of the driver and he says he did not receive an email, and that they are currently moving someone, and have somewhere to go after that. So my client is left without movers. By this time I am trying to call other movers that are sympathetic, but booked because it is the first of the month. Alas my client had no movers to help her move her bed, furniture, and boxes into her place, until the next morning when we were able to hire another moving company. read more

He showed up at 8:26PM, gingerly helped me lift the dresser into his van, and drove me to my place. His rate was more than competitive. I never knew you could write reviews on Yelp about anything other than restaurants. Finally i have a chance to acknowledge Kenneth after years of fabulous service. Ever since i've been widowed 14 years ago with two small children, Kenneth has been the go to person for all those little jobs that were too heavy or too much of a hassle for me. I found his card on a bulletin board one day and a few years ago when i thought i lost it, i felt the same panic i felt when i thought i lost a phone or wallet - but worse. Those things are replaceable. Kenneth is not. i now make sure i have his number in several different devices so that i never lose it. Once i called Kenneth when he was out of the country and left a message. i had no clue he was away. I got a call back on my machine telling me that he is on vacation but here are the names and numbers of 3 other moving guys that he felt were reliable. He came through for me even from another continent. He is prompt, always estimates lower than i'd expect (i give him the difference as a tip), and best of all i feel comfortable leaving him to do his work while i am elsewhere in the house - he's trustworthy and considerate (making sure not to leave footprints if it rains), and several times when he saw that i was about to leave at the same time, he offered to drop me off at my destination in his van (thus saving me a cab fare). i was also very surprised one day to discover by accident that Kenneth is a photographer. when i looked at his website, displaying his work, i was shocked by how talented he is. i couldn't believe that my lugging guy (what i call him) was such a star creative person. When my daughter gets married, Kenneth will take the photographs. If you use him for for a moving job, ask him for his photography website address. it's not on the Man with a Van card he hands out. He never mentions this to his moving customers. if there were 6 stars, Kenneth would get 6. read more

Kenneth made my moving day, which should've been easy and pleasant, a terrible experience. My roommate accidentally locked me out of my apartment for 15 minutes so we couldn't get started until 15 minutes after the scheduled time - annoying, but not a big deal. HOWEVER, for some reason Kenneth showed up a full 30 minutes early with NO notice, so due to his own stupid decision to arrive early, he ended up having to wait 45 minutes instead of 15 minutes. The unbelievable part: While we were waiting, he became really agitated and upset, and suddenly went off on me and said, "This is ridiculous. I can't believe this. Do you even KNOW how busy I am today? Your move is the smallest and lowest-paying job I have today, I've got WAY bigger jobs I need to do. This is a huge waste of my time. Where the hell is your roommate, how much longer is this going to take? I can't believe this, what a waste of my time." ...I was just completely speechless and astonished by his straight-up rudeness, disrespect, unprofessionalism, and childishness. What kind of business owner talks like that to a paying customer? The only reason I forced myself to tolerate it and didn't tell him to go fuck himself is I needed to move out of my apartment that day, and knew I wouldn't be able to get another mover on such short notice. Once I had access to my apartment, the entire move took literally 30 minutes, and I did half the lifting and work. All I had was a single mattress and a few small suitcases - easiest fucking job ever. I shouldn't have even paid him the full amount. Later he was apparently embarrassed/ashamed of his behavior and knew how appallingly he had acted, because he called to sheepishly say "sorry things got a little tense." Maybe he hoped it would be enough to prevent me from leaving a negative Yelp review. Used them in my recent move from New Jersey to Upper East Side NY. They provided an appointment window of 12-2PM and showed up before 12PM ready to work! Had the entire truck unloaded and moved into our apartment in less than 2 hours and the building is a 5 story walk up. Worked extremely hard and efficient and did not try to drag out the time as they do work by the hour. As I remember, I originally found Kenneth's services while searching for a mover on Google. I decided that Kenneth was a reasonable choice given his strong Yelp reviews, and, after speaking with him on the phone, his low quoted rate (which was $900 [including tolls and high-octane gas], and the lowest-priced quoted rate out of all the moving companies I spoke with). I was in possession of a small storage unit, of the 'locker' size, quite full of personal belongings, and an additional 5"x5"x8" unit not-as-full of personal belongings. Kenneth arrived promptly at the agreed-upon time the day of the move and together we worked efficiently to relocate all of my items from my storage units into his cargo van in a little over an hours' time. I arrived, together with Kenneth, 4.5 hours after leaving my storage spaces to my destination in Boston, and there, I helped him move all of my personal items into the ground floor of a residential house. I had talked with Kenneth on the phone to discuss his availability and rate to help with the move in mid-January, but at that time decided to give myself an additional one or two weeks more time to ensure moving to Boston was the strongest decision for me. It was, and when I called Kenneth back towards mid-February to see if he was still available, he was, and I confirmed the move for the following week. My items (see first paragraph for amount of items included in storage units) all fit into Kenneth's cargo van - though any more would NOT have fit. I understand from Kenneth that my load was rather on the large side, at least more so than what he usually transports. So, prospective customers reading this review who have many items, please do note that, both for Kenneth's sake, and yours! I am giving Kenneth's services a three-star rating simply because I myself do agree most with the three-star rating of "A-OK." If "A-OK" were four or even five stars, I then I would select four or five stars! Living in NYC means you'll end up moving a few times (unless you lucked out on a rent situation). It sucks but it happens, and when it happens you need a great mover to help you out.
