Absolute the worst. Let's start with service, non existant. The server greeted us by asking "how many", no "hi's, no hello, or welcome...bad things to come I thought, but stayed positive hoping the food would make up for it, after all, we have all experienced bad service before. The server did not seemed busy, with just another table of 4 before we arrived around 2pm. Ordered $250 worth of food for my party of 6, from Hirame sashimi, salmon and albacore carpaccios, scallops, albacore tuna sashimi, udon nooodle (extremely sweet broth), thai noodles, specialty rolls (Dragon roll), regular rolls (Spicy tuna and salmon rolls, hamachi kama, all tasted past expiration dates, filled with ponzu and vinegar sauce to hide the "old" fish taste. Every dish was delivered without any explanation. The server didn't repeat our order which led to two missing rolls. Not once she came to check on us. Never again here. So I must say I've loved this restaurant for years today they went above and beyond because of course Uber the morons that they are didn't give them the right order so course I didn't get the right one so I called just to let them know and Frank the manager and whoever else was working today who I spoke to on the phone was so nice and sweet today was so and sweet that they really said when I ordered again they double my order at no cost to me which was nice and they came through with their promise because I did order again but of course I use GrubHub this time Uber is horrible And it's very important to me since I have Parkinson's and they didn't even have to offer me that I can't stand up about this restaurant read more

Sushi was fine, not the best and not the worst we've had in SD. However, the service here was terrible. We stood at the check in stand for a while and was not acknowledged by staff, only with a simple "hi" from a distance from a kid with dark hair who turned out to be our server.. After asking if we could be sat for our 7:30pm reservation, he seemed inconvenienced by the request. Once we were seated, there was no real introduction and we were rushed out of there from the moment we were sat down, which is not appreciated when meeting with family in town. Another lady working came to take our sushi orders and seemed irritated that we might need another minute to decide on orders and pulled all menus immediately after ordering. We were subtly pushed out of the restaurant with multiple "thanks again for coming in". Unfriendly staff and unwelcoming environment, will not return. read more

Staff was friendly and attentive, but the food was not great. The edamame was overcooked, the seaweed salad was served in a sundae cup which made it goopy and it also tasted too sweet, maybe from too much vinegar? The sashimi we ordered was standard fare: tuna, yellowtail, salmon, but not very tasty, or at least not as good as some of the reviews here make it sound. Extremely fresh fish, a tad pricy and the rolls are on the smaller side. For 20+ bucks per roll you'd hope they would be a little more girthy. If you're in the Solana beach area and want sushi I would come, but I wouldn't drive 20 minutes out of my way to come here. read more

Second time here and this place is phenomenal. Service is great and the sushi is even better. We started off with two orders of edamame (my toddler son eats an entire one himself), one salted and one spicy garlic. The spicy was amazing- they had thinly sliced serranos in there. We went a little wild with ordering because we wanted to try quite a few things. We tried the Del Mar, Solana Beach, Japanese Hokkaido, Moonlight roll, Triple S and the Creamy Lobster roll. EVERYTHING was so amazing! We will order ALL of these again. I was surprised at how good the Creamy Lobster Roll was.. I'm not usually one for baked/fried rolls but this far exceeded my expectations and I will get it again. I know it's a new item, but I'm hoping it's a permanent one. My wife and I stumbled across this hidden gem about a week ago and have already been here twice since. We have been looking for a good and reasonably priced sushi spot nearby and are happy to finally have found one after almost giving up hope. Their Happy Hour deals are phenomenal and their hand rolls are delicious. We particularly enjoy the Super Sexy Roll, Shrimp Tempura Hand Roll, Spicy Tuna Hand Roll and the Ensui Roll. We also had the Tuna Jalapeño poppers which are a real treat! Their fish is fresh, the quality is good and the chefs make creative dishes. We also enjoy the ambiance and the staff. Francisco in particular is someone who really makes a difference--he is one of the chefs and takes great pride in not only making sure the food is delicious, but also making sure you're enjoying yourself and that you're comfortable. I have lived in RSF & Del Mar for several years. I have experienced many of the local Resteraunt's and I have to say, this one is the absolute best in all areas. For pickup and/or dine in, the staff is always warm, welcoming and efficient. Ensui's location is very accessible, parking is never an issue and most of all their food is quality and reasonably priced. Renaming this restaurant Enui Sushi: the food is bland and terribly boring. The interior has been nicely revamped so it's better looking than its predecessor but the ambiance was ruined by nonstop Michael Jackson songs that were unwelcome and rather tinny in an empty restaurant. We ordered miso soup, salmon carpaccio, seared tuna and the Ensui roll. The only reason they get two stars instead of one is that the miso had tender shitaki mushrooms in it. The salmon was very average and in little bundles which is an odd presentation for carpaccio. The tuna had a strange beefy taste, was not properly sliced and altogether forgettable. The roll was below supermarket pre-packaged level in flavor and mouth feel. Our waitress never asked how the food was, just if we wanted more before she unceremoniously dropped the check on the table without a word. Indifferent service, zero atmosphere and tasteless food made for a rather sad meal. It's not inexpensive (that was $63 plus tax and tip) and we'll hold off until the next incarnation before paying another visit. Top tip? If you're in the area and want good sushi, go to Market instead. If you fancy a drive and want great sushi, Himitsu in La Jolla is the place. read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE CELIAC. I have full blown celiac disease (its not just a preference lol) I was here for dinner yesterday and was excited because their menu seemingly labeled many items gluten free. I double checked with the server though to ensure and he reassured me that everything labeled gluten free was in fact gluten free. So I order some food and begin eating it. Another waitress comes by and I ask again about the menu items being gluten free because I start to feel ill. This waitress then proceeds to tell me the entire menu is wrong and the things labeled gluten free are in fact NOT actually gluten free. Something about a new chef and he didn't feel like fixing the menu. She then tells me that I should be fine because a lot of the time people who say they're gluten free eat their food and are fine. lol Well I was not fine and went home to be sick all night long. This place is amazing!!! Just tried and it's for sure one of my top two sushi places ever and I'm very picky about my sushi. Even the regular rolls were a very good portion. I tried two of the specialty rolls the Victor's Lobster Roll and the ENSUI and both were bomb!!! Sorry, no pics. I devoured everything so fast. Amazing customer service. They didnt have a baked salmon roll on the menu but these gentlemen whipped one up for me. The ambience of the place is just outstanding. They have these super cool lights on the ceiling. TVs for sports and great chefs whipping up the sushis. Also, i love when a sushi restaurant isnt stingy with thr ginger. Such a great thing. The pros: Service was adequate. Chairs were comfortable. The cons: The food was lacking in almost every way. The fish was either old or of poor quality, as the distinct sour taste of B-grade salmon was present in every roll containing the fish. The edamame was completely unseasoned. The sushi rice was under-rice vinegar'ed. The lemon slices atop one of our rolls were thick enough to be on the rim of an iced tea, instead of paper thin. It was a lot of rind to get through. Another had so much cream cheese stuffed inside that the odor of Philadelphia's finest drowned out any hint of other flavors. The soy sauce was of poor quality, and the wasabi was squeezed from some great tube. If Applebee's opened a sports bar-sushi joint, it would look and taste like this - all decor and no fish. Ensui combines low-quality sushi with high prices, which is a real disappointment, given its proximity to our home. I'd like to say we'd give them another chance, but let's be honest, there are too many restaurants in the world to chance another lackluster, expensive experience. read more
