Stopped in a week or so ago on one of our few trips north of the merge. We eat sushi a lot, and being in the fish processing business we know our fish. We have been known to walk out of many a sushi place just looking at the fish they stock. That was *so* not the situation at Ensui. I eat mostly no-rice rolls, and they have a nice selection. My husband does eat rice, and several of his rolls looked so amazing I have to try. The OMG roll which is seared Kobe Beef was delicious. The staff and owners were nice and attentive, and there is lots of seating at the sushi bar as well as tables in the restaurant. We hope to make the drive up north again soon. read more

Usually, I have no problems with seaweed salad. However, I never had such a bad seaweed salad. I am also Asian, so I know how udon tastes. Why is the udon so sweet? Its supposed to be a little salty. All 4 plates of different types of sashimi wasn't fresh either. It was lukewarm and they tried to cover that with avocado. I came from Las Vegas, a literal desert, and that city has better sushi.. Could not be happier. Where I am in Solana you have a couple sushi places in walking distance and neither of them open before 4 (I'm a late lunch eater 2-3:30). I found this place just across the freeway and previous reviews were a great sign. I picked up the Frank roll, Ikura, & miso (and some nigori). Welp- BEST ikura anywhere. They serve it cold and it tastes so much more crisp and satisfying when cold. The seaweed wrapped around was so fresh you could smell it. Their scallops and tuna were top quality without any doubt and I appreciated the abundance of mushrooms in their miso. The opportunity to try the rest of their menu gives me a lot to look forward to. Came down from socal to celebrate our anniversary and decided to go here based on others stellar reviews. We were pleasantly disappointed by the service and mediocre food. Ambiance was ok but we did move tables because we kept seeing flies around the area we seated ourselves at. Anyways, we didn't receive our waters until after we got our food, It was difficult to get our waiter's attention because she was distracted and busy only waitressing and chatting with her friends. So much so that the chef put my meal on the counter for a good 5 minutes before he had to deliver it to me himself since she wasn't paying attention to her customers. I asked for a straw and didn't receive it until 10 minutes later. All in all, I'd suggest sitting at the bar because the chef will give you more attention than the waiter will. read more

Stopped by for take out after seeing this spot have a 4.5 star review. We went in and only half of the staff was wearing masks. We ordered three rolls, which was pretty good but not exceptional. Small tip would be make the spicy tuna a little spicier! Portions were great, happy hour menu was good, but THE MASKS. First off, we were told they were out of at least 4 things we tried ordering. 2nd, They cheat. We ordered Japanese Hokkaido Scallops roll which is supposed to come with truffle oil. She also said they don't need the negative attitude. I was actually nice about the honest feedback I gave. As a business owner, you won't survive if you can't provide basic customer service. We were nothing but impressed. The sushi was so fresh and artistically presented. There were very unique "special roll" offerings. We tried a Lemon Cilantro roll and a "Funky" roll. I can't remember all the features of each but delicious flavor combinations- seared tuna, crab, mango relish, chiles, asparagus. We don't really have any complaints about the food, just the overall service. From the moment we walked in, our server seemed so bothered to have to take care of our table. He did not introduce himself, did not smile once or attempt to exchange pleasantries, did not acknowledge the children dining with us despite them saying hello to him several times in an effort to get a response, would deliver food and drop it down wherever he felt like it which sometimes happen to be right in front of one of the small children we were dining with (opposed to clearing out some of our empty dishes to make room), and did not check in once to ask how our meal was going or if we needed anything else. The restaurant was not busy at all and so I cannot justify this type of service based on that. Not sure what the deal was but we are very disappointed with our experience here. read more

Sushi rolls were all right but service was off. Ordered a bunch of apps too. Favorites were calamari and jalapeno poppers. Thought the poppers would only have cream cheese but they also had like ground pork in it. We ordered yellowtail collars and when we asked about it after we consumer the apps and sushi rolls, the waitress said they sold out. She forgot to let us know. We also ordered salads with salmon skin to top them and it came at the end of our meal (?). The salmon skin was so soggy, kinda gross. They redid the salmon skin topping after we said something. It took 15 minutes while our salads wilted away. To top it off, the bill included the two collars that we didn't eat. We came here to dine in as most places are only takeout and delivery, but I don't think I'll be back. read more

Previous to covid, I was a weekly regular at this spot. The food is excellent, fresh and innovative. The sushi chefs are creative and actually listen to guests' requests. Frankie, the owner, is super accommodating. I LOVE this place, and though I've been "sheltering at home" for most of 2020, I just tonight, returned for a fabulous dinner. Excellent all around! Called to see if they were doing patio seating or just takeout (in this COVID moment). Very helpful host confirmed dine-in and then asked if we wanted a reservation for our party of 7, so we booked it. We arrived 10 minutes late but our table was waiting and the friendly wait staff gave us immediate attention. Ordered pot stickers, calamari and tempura shrimp for appetizers. Calamari was the highlight. Then ordered a couple of Santa Fe rolls and the Del Mar rolls, with yellowtail sashimi. Sushi was the highlight of the meal. Fresh and delicious.
