My first time experience to dining here. Very pleased with the freshness of my sake bowl. It was beautifully presented to my table. I just did not want to start eating but rather admire its presentation . Once inside , I was transported into another part of the world. I loved the authenticity of this sushi bar/restaurant, adding to having an itamae calling from behind the bar when the orders are ready . Very good service . I will be back!

Quick to come in. Plenty of seating. Didn't realize they had an outdoor dining area- we could have brought our dog. It was pretty warm when we came in. They turned on the AC after it was very balmy.... Seated very quickly, took our orders. The food took a bit. They forgot the Tofu. I had to ask for it. I am not saying you should comp it but most do when you have to ask for an item missed and is served after you have pretty much have eaten. I did add the creamy Shrimp after we placed the initial order and the tofu came after. We ordered the Yellow Tail Special Roll, Hot Night, Spider Roll, Tofu and Creamy shrimp. I had already checked-in. They had a sign that if you check in- you get free ice cream the in tiny print "show your server the review for confirmation".... I showed her I checked in... but then said I must write a review... Not cool.... And guess what??? No Ice cream!

Came here for the first time during happy hour, where many menu items are 50% off, making it a great opportunity to try a variety of dishes. We ordered the baked salmon roll, baked lobster roll, beef bulgogi entrée, and spicy chicken teriyaki entrée. The baked rolls were the highlight of the meal--both were incredibly flavorful, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The beef bulgogi was also very good, and I especially appreciated that it came with a generous amount of vegetables. The only disappointment was the spicy chicken teriyaki. It had very little teriyaki sauce, was overloaded with onions, and the chicken itself was quite dry. Overall, it was a great first visit, and the happy hour specials offered excellent value. I'll definitely be back to try more items from the menu.

This was the closest I feel like I've gotten to authentic sushi, the blue crab roll I believe is genuinely amazing. The fried rice here is really good as well, would definitely come back again,

MIZUKIYAMA SUSHI @ DEL MAR This place is located in the Del Mar Highlands plaza, which is honestly a really nice area to walk around. There's a good amount of shops and restaurants nearby, and parking was easy since the garages are free, which is always a plus in this area. My friend and I came here for dinner because we were craving sushi, and overall I'd say the experience was just okay. The restaurant itself was clean and had a nice atmosphere, and the lady helping us was friendly throughout the meal, so the service wasn't bad at all. For food, I ordered a tuna roll, my friend got the nigiri platter, and we also shared the calamari. Everything came out pretty quickly, and presentation-wise it looked decent, but the sushi itself honestly wasn't my favorite. The fish didn't taste as fresh as I was hoping, and some of it had a slightly fishy taste that threw me off a bit. The calamari was probably the best part of the meal since it came out crispy and flavorful. Overall, I wouldn't say the food was terrible, but it definitely didn't stand out compared to other sushi spots in San Diego. It was decent for what it was, but probably not somewhere I'd personally go out of my way to come back to.

All set to try their lunch special of 2 rolls! Salad and miso soup were great...

OMG! The best baked scallops roll ever. If you like creamy, spicy and on the sweeter side, this is outstanding. Very generous amount, lots of crab too. Spicy tuna was so flavorful not needing at should. Great service. Kind, smiles, and patient. Food paced just right. Enjoyed that the sushi chef said hello. Quiet, comfortable, clean. Looking forward to coming back for dinner! Omakase for $100. Salmon and Camacho kama!

My first time coming here after coming from torrey pines beach and a 10/10. The food is bomb af and service is excellent .

Here on a girl's trip and chose this spot because it was on the way to our hotel. Food has yummy, service was good. Didn't wait long at all to be seated or served. Would def return!

I went here on a Saturday evening and I didn't even to wait to be served. Service was quick, attentive, and friendly. I ordered takotaki, cucumber, firecracker roll, and house special roll. The rolls were delicious, fresh, and has good texture. Everything we ordered was really good. Definitely would come back again.

really a great place to check out! You were really enjoy your experience.

I have noticed this place has mixed reviews but surprisingly it is awesome the food is fresh. The spicy tuna was great and very spicy. The waiters are kind and the food comes fast. The crispy rice is something you need to try. The ambiance is cozy and looks like it has been here for a while. The food is fresh and sooo good. If you're hungry check this place out now. -Arsam

Love the sushi here. And the service is excellent. We had the garden salad and the seaweed salad. Loved both. Especially the ginger dressing on the garden salad Then we had the mango roll and the fantasy roll. Loved both of them and would order again. My husband had the Korean bulgogi which didn't have enough flavor/sauce but the portion size was good. Sat at the sushi bar which was a lot of fun! Nice air conditioning for the summer.

Cant remember what they're all called but they were all good and would 20/10 order them again. Ambiance was also wonderful! But what made this place even better was the staff. We were promptly sat down upon arriving. Servers frequently checked on us and were all so nice. But what really stood out was their empathy. Like i said, my son knocked out. He's 5. He woke up as we were leaving. by the time we figured out what was really upsetting him (he wanted to stay there and eat and wanted the table we were on), we have gotten out of our table and obviously the table was then cleaned for the next guests. So basically my lil one cried, took him to the bathroom bec unfortunately we dont get everything we want just bec we cry. So we went into the bathroom for him to cry his feelings out and be ready to get out. Was he loud? Absolutely. Was i embarrassed? Yes. But it was a lesson he needed to learn and i didnt want my discomfort to hinder that. (Mind you the bathroom was in the middle of the stairs lol midway the lower and the upper floor). So was i ashamed to get out? Yes. But the staff, so empathetic. So nice about it. Told me i didnt need to apologize and that they get it. And that made me feel better as a mama who walked out of there carrying a 5 year old out their door. No judgy stares. Just smiles and understanding eyes. So july 18 2026, 4-5pm staff, you are all so amazing and we truly appreciate it. We hope to be back again when in the area.

Booking was easy through their website. When we arrived around 6:30, and there were still a handful of open tables so reservations may not always be necessary, but it's probably still a good idea. Our server was phenomenal and really elevated the experience. She gave great recommendations and even let us sample both the Cabernet and Merlot when we couldn't decide on a bottle of wine. We ordered a variety of dishes: * Spicy Edamame: very flavorful, but definitely on the spicy side so be warned if you're sensitive to heat. * Fire Fire Roll: light and fresh fish, but the seared salmon flavor didn't really stand out. * Orange Roll: also light and fresh, but I didn't really pick up the citrus/lemon zest element. A bit underwhelming compared to expectations. * Salmon Belly Nigiri: very fresh and a favorite at the table. * Crab Roll Special: generous portion of fresh crab. * Yuzu Cheesecake: served with three spoons to share. It tasted like a classic cheesecake, pleasant, but I didn't really get a distinct yuzu flavor. The space is cute and conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Overall, the atmosphere is laid-back and comfortable. While the rolls themselves are fairly simple and not especially standout, everything tasted fresh and the service was excellent, which made the experience enjoyable.

Tuna lovers will appreciate how many dishes had tuna. The warm dish (seabass w hairy crab sauce) was one of my favorites, the hairy crab sauce consistency reminded me of banh canh cua. While the do offer Full Omakase for $189, Nigiri Omakase for $140, and Petite Omakase for $65, they also allow you to order nigiri, sashimi along with multiple other specials and cut rolls. On our first walk in experience, we ordered the Petite Omakase which included 4 seasonal dishes, 6 pieces of sushi, a light fish broth, and a small dessert, we also ordered some add-on sushi. This is meant to be opinionated criticism to help improve but I think the dishes could use more diversity and depth. Having done a fair share of omakase from places like Kinme and Matoi, I feel like this isn't that much more memorable or special and I'd hate for it to follow the same path Tadokoro did where they were absolutely my #1 choice and fell after they got their star (which they later lost). Everything was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. All of the fish is high-quality, and most of it is imported from Japan. They do also source fantastic shrimp and uni from San Diego at times. Both sushi chefs are super personable, very skilled, and they have rad knife skills! Service from the waitstaff was attentive yet unobtrusive. The restaurant is diminutive and consists primarily of the sushi bar with 10 seats and an attached patio dining area. They do have a small parking lot which is appreciated! The pacing was just right, and each course was presented simply yet beautifully. I truly enjoyed this experience and give it my highest possible accolades! I loved that we were able to taste test three different sakes before choosing, and the carafe of sake was perfect for two of us to enjoy with our meal. It was also fun to choose our own special sake cup/glass from Ichifuji's eclectic collection for the evening I truly enjoyed all of the 19!! courses but the chilled chawanmushi, king salmon & all the nigiri were my favorites. There was no wait here but parking was a nightmare and there is almost no street parking right around the restaurant which is near the trolley tracks. I recalled coming here for a light dinner with my husband many years ago and thinking it was good, but expensive. I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

My husband and I came here for dinner and really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. The…read morerestaurant has a modern rooftop vibe in the heart of Downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, making it a great spot for date night. We ordered the miso soup, spicy edamame, Den Miso pork belly skewers, tamarindo tuna ceviche, seabass serrano, crispy karikari tuna, and mochi ice cream for dessert. To drink, we had the Taiyo Margarita and the Clouds of Matcha cocktail. The spicy edamame was probably the only dish that fell a little short for us. It wasn't bad by any means, but we were hoping for more flavor. The absolute standout was the Den Miso pork belly skewers. My husband and I both took our first bite at the same time, looked at each other, and immediately said, "Oh!" We were genuinely surprised by how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were. There were only two skewers, but they packed so much flavor that we instantly wanted to order another plate. The tamarindo tuna ceviche was fresh, light, and refreshing. The taro chips added a nice crunch without overpowering the dish. The seabass serrano was enjoyable, though it wasn't a stand out for us. The crispy karikari tuna (spicy tuna over crispy rice) is one of my go-to orders whenever I visit a sushi restaurant, and this version was up to par. The only component I wasn't crazy about was the long, thin slice of avocado on top--I personally could have done without it, though my husband actually liked it, so that's just a matter of preference. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, we had a great dining experience. Between the rooftop ambiance, attentive service, and several delicious dishes - especially those unforgettable pork belly skewers - we'd definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner spot in the Gaslamp.

Came here on a Tuesday night and it was not busy at all but half the tables were unbussed, and we…read morewere sat in the corner and it felt like we were forgotten for a bit. Other couple tables around us... Now it was 8:30 and I get it, its late but I felt like the service was just not up to standards.. now as a server myself I understand the closing shifts, not having a busser on the floor but we are big spenders and I felt like a lot of the service was lacking I had to ask for water to get water, wasabi and ginger didn't come out when I asked for it.. the steps of service was off and I just wished the server took more time w us bc it would've made everything so much better. Sake order took forever.. But it's fine bc I get it, it's a Tuesday night, just maybe wouldn't fly with another person. Now the food quality really makes up for it. - For sake, I usually prefer Junmai Daiginjo. I picked the first one listed, but it ended up being a little too dry for me. Our server did mention it was their driest sake, so that's on me lol. Next time I'll definitely go with the lighter option. 7/10 -yellowtail& jalapeños, spicy tuna crispy rice - decent, solid, no complaints 8/10 -Ribeye/ Wagyu: AMAZING. Seriously, so good. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, tender -- easily one of my favorites of the night. 10/10 - tai snapper appetizer- great w the yuzu kosho- garlic crunch!! 8/10 - shoutout to the busser who knew his food! I asked about the fish and the sauce. - the NIGIRI quality was really fricking good, the toro, the tai, even the bluefin aka like wow 10/10 If it wasn't last call I would've ordered more Wanted dessert but everything was out except mochi- this is also fine bc I get it restaurants run out just shows how good this place is Overall, the food quality was absolutely there and is the reason I would come back. I just wish the service matched the quality of the food because with a little more attention, this easily could've been an amazing experience from start to finish.
