It's a fine option for a person who doesn't really need to be "sold" a car, rather someone who has done all their own research on what they want to buy, has a price in mind, and just wants to go get it without too much hassle. There are some advantages to buying here, like the ability to bring it back within 10 days for a full refund, and not having to haggle. If you like the price, you buy the car, if you don't, you move on. Disadvantages of course, are pretty much that the salesman is not super motivated to sell you a car, and is therefore not going to be very knowledgeable about whatever car you roll up about and want to look at. This is fine for me, I knew what I wanted, and I got it. It wasn't without difficulty however. The specific car I wanted had to come in from Georgia, which I paid a transfer fee for. It was supposed to take 3-5 days, it ended up being over 2 weeks. This left us short a car for awhile, as we had already given up the other car based on their timeline. They did refund the transfer fee, so that made it partially right, but I say this to not take their word on their timelines. My second complaint, is that the transaction took WAY TOO LONG inside Carmax, especially given I had already filled out most paperwork in advance. The person helping us seemed pretty new, and she kept having to get up and ask other associates questions. She also was not very observant, we were pointing out things on the screen that she was missing. She really should have had someone looking over her shoulder to help, as she was not ready to be on her own. Finally, it's a good thing I advocated for myself and knew to check for certain things. Our new car is a plug in hybrid, and the car was supposed to come with a charging cable. It was not in the car anywhere, but with a little persistence they gave me one from their service center. Carmax does do a thorough inspection on the cars they sell, and actually, the independent shop I brought the car to said they've not had many problems with Carmax missing things. In my case that held true, their Volvo certified mechanic found nothing wrong with my car mechanically, and said it appears to have been well maintained and serviced. He did find a very small windshield chip, which Carmax fixed free of charge without any complaint. Would I buy another car from Carmax? I would, but I am someone who just needs someone to facilitate the transaction, I'm savvy enough to know the car on my own and do my own research. I wouldn't recommend Carmax as a place for the inexperienced buyer.

car returned less than a week later!!!!…read more andrew was the sales guy. had an appointment for 10am. my uncle and i test drove the car. i really liked the car. got the paperwork started. after i left, andrew and i communicated via text message. told him i would come back between 5pm-6pm to pick the car up. this would give carmax time to clean the car and have it ready. i left carmax around 11:30am. that's over 5 hours before my appointment to pick up the car. got dropped off and how about the car is still sitting in the exact same spot as i parked it when i did the test drive. not cleaned at all and they thought i was going to accept that!!! andrew was still there when i arrived. how about he did not acknowledge me at all. did not apologize, nothing!!! other carmax associates apologized. ray came and personally apologized and told me he would definitely have the car ready saturday by 12pm and they paid for a lyft to take me home and pick me up. i sent an email to the sales manager, tristan about the situation and how dissappointed i was with how andrew handled the situation. not professional at all and if it had not been for ray, i would have took my check and went elsewhere. when i picked the car up ray met me outside and made sure i was satisfied. i have not bought a car in over 16 years. the car is a 2021 so of course i want to make sure everything is fine with it. i have 10 days and if i'm not completely satisfied i can return the car. it was not my plan to return the car. i took the car to the honda dealership to make sure everything was good. they sent me a video saying a main concern was the control arms and the sway bar needing to be fixed. i took the car back to carmax and showed them the work order and video. chad in the service department said it was covered under my warranty. i left the car over night and patiently waited for carmax to call me back. i ended up calling them back the next day when it was going on 4pm and i had not heard anything yet. spoke with chad and he said that the service manager and technician looked at the car and said the parts are not failing and the only thing they did was change the air filters. they didn't even want to rotate the tires. my uncle and i went to carmax and talked with the service manager and sales manager. showed him the video where honda clearly stated that the control arms were a major concern. after about 30-45 minutes of my uncle and i talking with the sales and service manager, they finally agreed to fix it but with after market parts! i would not have known where the parts came from. junk yard, auto zone, who knows where! after all that, i was so done with carmax and their messiness, i gave them back that car. a week of mess!!!! brian, a sales associate was very nice and told me, he completely understands. he said, "you got to make sure it's right" brian started the return paper work and took me to the service department where barry was. barry had an attitude from start and acted like it was a bother and inconvenience for him to do the return paper work. then he is on the phone with the credit union and yells loudly "he needs a 15 day" which was so unnecessary! not professional at all!!! i will never step foot at the greensboro carmax on 3412 w wendover ave, ever again!!! i returned the car way before my 10 days was up. they give us 10 days but want to take their time handling their part. 30 days later. i ended up calling corporate in virginia. don't waste your time going to that carmax!!! if it wasn't for ray and brian i wouldn't even of came back when the car was not even cleaned!!! do better carmax!!!

I scheduled an appointment in advance for a simple oil change at 3p on Friday 9/19. Provided my phone number and email address. When I arrived, I was advised there is a 1.5 hour wait. Not sure what is the purpose of scheduling an appointment? I was advised someone called out sick and they are behind. Is there a reason why one of the 7 service advisors who were staring at their phones could not have called me to advise me of the issue??? A 30 minute drive and ZERO result.

That's sarcasm, but my experience is not. I brought my Jeep Grand Cherokee to Greensboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram because my check engine light needed to be repaired before my upcoming state inspection. After completing a diagnostic, the service department provided me with a detailed report identifying what they considered the urgent repairs. I trusted their expertise and authorized the recommended work, paying more than $1,300 to resolve those issues. While my vehicle was in their care, I was informed that a hose burst during a pressure test. Instead of taking responsibility for an issue that occurred while the vehicle was in the dealership's possession, I was charged for that repair as well. After picking up my vehicle, I hadn't even been home long before I noticed white smoke coming from the engine, and shortly afterward the check engine light came back on.. the very issue I had paid to have repaired. I immediately contacted the dealership and was told to bring the vehicle back. After performing yet another diagnostic, I was then told that my engine supposedly needed to be replaced because it was no good. That raises an obvious question: If my engine truly required replacement, why wasn't that identified during the initial diagnostic before I spent over $1,300 on repairs that ultimately did not resolve my original concern? What has disappointed me just as much as the repair itself has been the lack of accountability afterward. I attempted multiple times to speak with management, leaving voicemails and requesting callbacks, but no one from the service department or dealership leadership has followed through. I was also directed to contact Kenneth Duneske Jr., who was presented as someone who could help resolve my concerns. After making the effort to reach out, I learned he was no longer with the dealership, leaving me with no meaningful path toward resolving this issue. The employees I interacted with were courteous, and I genuinely did not want to leave a negative review. However, courtesy alone cannot justify paying over $1,300 only to leave with the same warning light, additional mechanical concerns, and ultimately being told I need an engine replacement. I am requesting that Greensboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram issue a refund for the initial repairs that failed to resolve the condition for which I brought my vehicle in. I paid in good faith based on the dealership's diagnosis and recommendations. The results did not match the service I paid for, and I believe a fair resolution requires the dealership to acknowledge that and make it right. I hope someone from dealership leadership reaches out to review my repair order, my invoices, and the timeline of events so this matter can be resolved professionally.

We found our car experience to be very pleasant with no pressure. No haggling, we were both that close on expectations. It was true relationship building for the long-term. We worked with Ian Newton, a perfect fit for us. We thought we wanted the GX platform. Too big at this stage of our life. But it rides nice! The RX looked like it was going to make the cut. Great ride, but we needed a little bigger for Tabitha---our dog. This platform will become Tabby's Cabby. We are picking up our TX350 later today. It has all the reasonable bells and whistles we need. The flexibility makes it safe for all of us during our longer rides. The new technology can be overwhelming. And this is where your knowledgeable sales consultant makes the deal: Ian has been amazing demonstrating how to maximize this product to our mission. We both have enjoyed working with him to identify the right vehicle to satisfy safety and comfort. We met Ryan after we made our decision. He is very knowledgeable with the product. I liked our "fact-based" price discussions. He "sold" us with the Service Department. His words: "You will spend more time with our service department over the years than with us." A very true statement. I have my own great mechanic team; however, there is a lot of value (many times really required for warranty compliance) in having a dedicated service team that is good with their craft. If you are thinking about a Lexus, get on Ian's schedule to help you with your next car.
