However, during the visit, I was surprised and uncomfortable with comments made by the dentist regarding our family's infant feeding choices, especially given the fact that my son was well past the infant feeding stage and had/has no known oral hygiene or development issues. Specifically, I was told that formula feeding from a bottle was "unfortunate" and that "this practice likes our babies breastfed". While I understand there may be clinical reasons for discussing feeding and oral development, the delivery felt judgmental and inappropriate given the context and timing. I hope the practice considers a more sensitive approach when discussing personal family decisions with patients and gets a complete medical history from parents before making them feel ashamed for their feeding decisions.

She had cavities at a very young age and had to be placed under anesthesia to fill and he made sure he explained the process and we had it at the hospital because he was concerned with the size of her tonsils. Long story short his concern led to her pediatrician (who had to clear her for surgery) sending her to an ear nose and throat specialist. He does such a great job, when my daughter had 8 cavities (yes, 8, oops), he took care of it swiftly and she had no issues. In the new office, they have a gold coin to give to them where they can pick from several candy ball-like machines as a prize. The initial phone call was very simple and I was able to schedule an appointment for an initial visit and cleaning and they also emailed the documents to complete prior to my visit so that I could be prepared beforehand. When we arrived, there was plenty of parking available outside. We were greeted by a friendly woman at the front desk and were able to quickly check-in and hang over our paperwork. The kids were able to play with the toys and they lit up once they saw the gaming space (one tv had Minecraft and the other had a Super Mario game.) Every single dental assistant and hygienist was VERY friendly and just so sweet and welcoming. They were so kind to my 3 year old daughter who joined me for the appointment and even included her (she has never been to a dentist just yet). Dr. Shoemaker is awesome! So bubbly and friendly, he came in and greeted us, started chatting with my son and instantly made him feel comfortable. We never once felt rushed or out of place. It was very warm and happy experience for both of my kiddos! My son's cleaning and exam was successful, then they allowed both kids to pick out a prize and even gave them balloons. They offer private rooms at an additional $100 (optional) but only in the mornings and if you agree to a private room once- the office categorizes you as a patient who can graduate from that room but only based on the discretion of the people who are getting paid by such private room⁉They will refuse to schedule an appt with a regular room moving forward. You are stuck paying for the private room and front desk can't do anything about it. This feels unethical and not in the best interest of your patients. Every other dental office will offer you a private room due to hipaa and osha ( this is a clear violation) and not charge additional. The only difference is there is a door here and not a partition. At this office they make it so the chairs sit SO close together like in a dental college ( a dental bay is a clear osha violation) - that naturally the parent will request that private room bc all it takes is one crying child to scare the others. Either way, you do have to agree to it so it's not a secret either but again feels off and completely on purpose! This area is like the, "nicest," in the neighborhood I guess and the other offices around are pretty old, making it so that these type of businesses provide care in a different way, more like you're a number and not a person. The slide and toys are nice but not what most important here. It's too bad bc Dr.Diaz was very kind and the hygienists were lovely as well. Ultimately, I thought maybe I was not the target audience until the office manager called me back to smooth things over and never acknowledged the issue. She went out of her way to tell me why the have private rooms while still not addressing that the issue is they lock you into a room you have to pay $100 additional for and therefore cant even book a regular appt without their permission, the dr didn't bother to call me and Elaina even admitted there were no notes from Dr saying my son had to stay in private room. I was trying to request a late afternoon appointment for my son 6 months out after his cleaning and they could not accommodate, telling me that they schedule top down now. So I guess the late afternoon slots are a lottery system or maybe they pick and choose.. They told me to call a week before the appt to request the 4pm slot - despite telling me that everyone wants those slots. Why act like they will be available? That's why I want to book 6 months in advance. Not only that, the dentist walked away without telling me absolutely anything about my son's teeth. The staff also didn't know when his last xrays were. I asked if insurance covered it, she said it depends on the scan and I asked what scan? Insurance covers the whole teeth scan... So I said... Uhh...yes that - clearly wasn't there to pay for a partial scan? So confusing when it didn't need to be. Also, I was not offered to be able to sit with my son while getting his teeth cleaned. I had to ask the front desk lady if I can go back there after being told to sit in the waiting room. The dentist and director of operations called my son's mom to apologize and bring her into this when she wasn't even there. Not me. Did not ask for my number. Did not ask to apologize to me. That's not right at all. Also, apparently that was the time to talk about my son's teeth and not at the appt??? Also, reportedly claimed I caused a scene. I'm sorry for pointing out the flaws in the system, and the staff's lack of training. You cannot tell me I caused a scene when a lack of professionalism and organization was shown to me - especially the dentist. We didn't want to switch dentists, but now I'm not so sure we'll get the service we deserve anymore here after all this. It's just not right.
