We've been trying to find a good contractor for a long time now and interviewed 10 contractors prior to finding Envision Landscape. Billy and his team helped me removed our old sod and sprinkler system from a prior contractor that didn't complete the work. Our backyard is a corner lot and was difficult to come up with a design. We needed to put concrete on part of the back and the side, also grass in the middle of the backyard. We saw Billy and his team worked on our neighbor house and decided to call for an estimate. We had used this company before for a very small project. I liked their quick responses and service, so we used them again recently to revamp our backyard. I initially dealt with Lisa, and our communication was great, she always responded almost immediately and kept me up to date on things. Billy showed up for the work, and he was great. We have had two homes taken care of by Eric and his crew. Our first home Eric maintained the home next to us with an older lady who loved her gardens. He did such great work there we had to have him maintain our property and our trees. When we moved to our current home the grounds were a wreck (especially the backyard). Whenever I look at my front yard. I am thankful. No longer do I have a small hole in the center (where a young sick tree died), no longer is there an area where bark chips and a mismatched line of plants were, and gone are the ill placed lilies that were always intruding on the walkway. Now it looks great! I had a few ideas of what I wanted and Billy thought of all the rest. Two days and my front yard was totally transformed from ugly grass and plants to something pleasant to behold and wonderfully drought tolerant. I was a bit concerned about rocks in the front looking like several of the other homes along my street, but Billy found and used a melody of rock pieces that are totally different from any I have seen before. I have had this company clean up my front/back with bushes/wood chips and lay new river rocks all around. First of all, the owner stated here(Eric) isn't the one who's going to work on your property. It's a one man operation company who's name is Billy and he stated Eric doesn't do the landscaping job but he does corresponding and office work kind of stuff as needed while he works full-time at other job(nothing to do with landscaping) he has. With that said, Billy works with other guys he hires outside as he gets work. He gave me a quote and estimated finish time of one day. Monday, he came to do the job with one other guy. - seems like they don't really know each other like he hired him for the job randomly - and he said the people he normally hires for the job were already booked so he ended up working with that guy. By end of the day, the job was no where near to be done and he promised it should be done by the next day. He did say if it was his regular guys he works with, the job should have been done. Tuesday, he came to do the job with a different guy from the first day and they seem like don't know each other either as the new guy asked me if I were his wife when I got home. Billy wasn't even there but the new guy was talking on his cell phone, sitting on the pile of rocks he was supposed to work on. Billy came back after I called him(I don't know what he was doing, buying extra materials? I didn't ask and he didn't explain) and said the job should be done by the next day. Again. Wednesday, he came with the guy from the day before but the job was still not done at the end of the day. He said he's getting sick but promised he'd finish the job by the next day. Again. I did feel bad that he was getting sick but I was getting tired of job getting delayed and his words not kept. By that time, he still needed extra rocks to cover some areas, remove bushes, clean gutters, remove fireplace and haul away. He said he can still finish that by the next day and asked for extra payment other than more than half of the total job cost I've already paid at the beginning - which I found out later that I didn't have to. But I wanted to believe him and the job needs to be done and I was going to pay him when it's all done anyways so I gave him extra on that day. Thursday, I was gone for the day and came back home around 4PM, expecting the job to be all done. However, he wasn't there, nobody was there, in fact, no one ever came out on that day. I called him. and he picks up saying he's too sick to work. I'd expect him to call me the first thing in the morning to let me know if he were sick and couldn't be coming out to work. but he didn't. He said he was too sick and in bed all day other than driving his kids to school. We got into argument over the phone as he said I'm giving him sxxx while he's sick but I thought he still had to call me to let me know first. One thing I can never forget what he said was when I said, 'Shouldn't you be calling first to let me know in a situation like this, not waiting till I call you at 4PM?' he said 'You aren't supposed to be home till 5PM!' He was annoyed by me and told me he'd come back the next day and finish the job before the day's over. I put a stop payment on the second check I've wrote him on Wednesday. The way I felt after I talked to him on Thursday was the worst. and I couldn't take a risk of him not doing his job after I pay him in full. Friday, he came out by himself and by end of the day, the job wasn't done. Bushes weren't removed, gutter wasn't cleaned, fireplace wasn't removed. He said he's too sick and he will come back later(?) to finish the rest. I was done with him by then. Told him not to come back and I will hire someone else to finish the job. Informed him of the stop payment I did and told him I will deduct $200 from initial quote he gave me since he hasn't finished his job. I wrote him a new check. He wasn't happy. Later that night, he texted and apologized for not calling me him on Thursday and not showing up to work. He did try to make it better at the end and he did come back two weeks later to finish drip hose he installed - which I thought was done but wasn't - and haul away fireplace. I'm sure he's a good person and started with good intention but he wasn't quite professional. At least not on my project. I've worked with several contractors based on Yelp's review and never had any issues like this. Perez Painting, Super Mario Plumbing, Elk Grove Tree Inc to name a few and I will always call them back for my future needs. but unfortunately, Billy isn't one of them. Maybe it'd have been different if he didn't get sick. or if he were able to hire his normal guys he worked with before. But things happen. For a business like this, should know how to handle the situation better when things like this happen. I'm giving him three starts only because he tried and apologized at the end. read more
