    Chicken wrap with onion rings.

My wife and I decided to try Epicure Pizzeria for lunch today 5/11/2024 and so glad we did. Not sure about the old reviews but our lunch order was amazing. The owner/manager Billy quickly welcomed us and provided menus. We ordered the Chicken and the Philly Cheesesteak wraps with onion rings. Wow ! They were absolutely delicious and they came with a nice size portion too. We even tried their pizza which we both thought tasted superb. The pizza slice had a nice thin crust just how we like them. Billy was very gracious and accommodating with us and we really appreciated that kind of service. Epicure has a nice outdoor table set up too. We definitely plan to go back but this time we'll bring friends to join us. Oh by the way, the bathroom for a pizzeria, was nice and clean and they have plenty of parking. We definitely highly recommend. We'll see you guys soon.

I've driven by Epicure Pizza for years, and finally getting to go I was so surprised. First, it's only half the building. There's a coffee shop on the far end. There is outdoor seating facing the road, and about four booths inside. They seem to have their own delivery driver who kept popping in and out. It was a little dark, so the table by the window was best. Drinks are available from the cooler, and yay, they are a Coca Cola establishment! I was expecting a standard Italian menu, but it turned out to be fun! We chose splitting Pink Panther (penne Alla vodka) pizza and loaded mashed potato pizza. I did have to eat some of the noodles on the Pink Panther with a fork, but the remaining noodles, sauce and pizza crust were so good together! The loaded mashed potato had a delicious layer of mashed potatoes under the cheese, it makes me hungry just thinking about it! It was a slow day inside, so the waiters were very relaxed and didn't apply pressure for us to hurry up and go, they let us sit and enjoy our food.

Chicken Parm grinder, at Epicure Pizza and Grill in Thomaston, CT.
    Tom D.

I've done takeout orders from Epicure Pizza & Grill a handful of times since the pandemic started. Like another fellow Yelper stated in his review, this establishment seems to be "Hit or Miss". Wings are decent, and the Chicken Wrap I ordered another time was very tasty, I enjoyed it a lot. But on my last visit, I had a Chicken Parm grinder. They used the same type of chicken strips in the grinder that they did in the wrap instead of full patties. That works fine for a wrap, not a grinder, I mostly tasted the big glob of greasy cheese on the sandwich. Would they use the same type of cut chicken strips for a chicken parm dinner also ? I suspect they would. Also, another time I ordered a Chef Salad. The salad I received came carrots and red cabbage. That's a not a Chef Salad, seems like they gave me "whatever" that day. Careless. And finally the pizza. Only tried a slice, but I was not impressed. NY Style, very bland & boring. Granted, it was only a slice and not a whole pizza, but I can't imagine their pizza being any good. All in all, Epicure is does some things well, I recommend the wraps & wings, but there are better choices for pizza in Thomaston.

    Clyde's Famous Chicken

The Clyde's famous chicken (pictured without pasta). If you're a fan of creamy cheesy sauces this is for you! Breaded chicken in garlic Alfredo sauce with capers, roasted red peppers and mozzarella cheese was an awesome flavor combo! Comes with soup or salad. Their Greek salad is delicious, loaded with veggies. Check them out!

"On the Black Rock is where I spend my time Writing down…read morememories or writing my rhyme On the Black Rock is where I like to go After a long night, home from our show" (O.A.R.) I haven't reviewed much in Thomaston. I'm pretty sure the only entry I have was for the town's historical marker, and that was back in 2014. So, when my buddy and I ended up in Thomaston for a wake yesterday, that gave me a reason to add a second Thomaston review, courtesy of our lunch visit to the Black Rock Tavern and Restaurant. It's a quintessential neighborhood bar and restaurant conspicuously located on Main Street. It is set up in the typical way -with a sit-down dining room on the left and the bar on the right. Black Rock takes up a pretty large space because it also has a banquet room. We sat at the bar, grabbed two beers ($5 for a Naragansett and $8 for a Guiness) and chit-chatted with our friendly bartender Maureen before we checked out their food menu. Black Rock had very nice food choices, ranging from appetizers to salads to wings to mains to burgers to sandwiches. I decided on a BBQ Beef Quesadilla ($21) with braised beef, melted cheddar jack cheese, pico, salsa, sour cream and a small salad on two grilled flour tortillas. It was yummy and a pretty big portion, so two of the four wedges came back home with me. My friend ordered a BRT Smashburger ($18) with a $3 side of cole slaw. He must have really enjoyed it because he turned back an empty plate to Maureen. If you really enjoy neighborhood type bar/restaurants, you will definitely enjoy a visit to the Black Rock tavern.

Let's just say I wasn't sure - so I avoided it. Went in tonight as I was dying for a simple burger and didn't want all the trappings of other places around from an investment standpoint. Boy, was I glad I did. I grew up in NJ - diners are a religion. This, to me, was a nicer (yet still casual and welcoming) diner. There's no neon and stainless steel to let me think it was a diner - but it's the best of a family-style restaurant and the diner we all know and love. Service was simply fantastic. Friendly, prompt, fun/funny. Atmosphere comfortable and not pretentious. Food: I had a simple cheeseburger and rather than fries, took them up on their offer for a small bowl of soup. All - exactly what I had hoped. Cook on the medium rare burger was clinically perfect. Meat to bun ratio was spot on. Hot, juicy. Terrific. Giving four stars in its category today as I want to dive deeper into the menu. I want to try their coleslaw, and pickles, and a chicken strip, fries, onion rings/straws before I hold it truly against a classic diner. But let's put it this way - I can't wait. Ps. Server said they change their specials 2x a day!!! Come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Don't let the sign fool you

Inside, things were quiet when I arrived, but it quickly started filling up. Service was just as impressive. My bartender greeted me with a genuine smile and gave spot-on recommendations. The food? Fantastic. Over the top. I ordered the Poutine. The fries were perfectly crispy, the queso was rich and flavorful, and the egg on my dish was absolute perfection.
