After hearing nothing but great things, I finally made my way to Eppings. First of all, let me just say the decor/space are AMAZING. It is absolutely beautiful! I visited with a friend for lunch and was surprised to find that it wasn't very busy (a hidden gem for lunch, perhaps!?). Our server was incredibly helpful, answering questions and providing recommendations when we asked for his advice. I got the fried chicken sandwich and oh my goodness was it delicious! The breading was crispy, the chicken juicy and flavorful. The sundried tomato aoli was the perfect compliment. For my side I chose the fries and those were good as well! I went to Epping's for the first time for a friends birthday and it was a great atmosphere and my meal was delicious. I ordered the Grilled Cheese with tomato soup. The sandwich was very delicious and the tomato soup had large shreds of cheese which made it that much better. I will forewarn you the restaurant is pricey. Other than appetizers and a few salads, my meal was the cheapest at $13. So I'd save this place for a special date or anniversary. Our waiter, Jared (sp?), was very attentive to our needs and checking on us periodically. We had an amazing time here! John was our server and was the absolute best. We came on a whim around Sunday at 6pm. No reservations and got a great booth spot (they were not busy). We were treated so well despite the slow evening, which was wonderful because it felt like VIP treatment. We would have ordered the entire menu if we could because the options they have are unlike any other restaurants in Lexington. We settled on a shareable spread of their Okonomiyaki fritter, chicken spring rolls, pork belly burnt ends, and large charcuterie plate. Everything was fresh, delicious, and had a specific uniqueness. Flavors were on point and we ended up needing a box for leftovers. We definitely enjoyed the bar and will be back! FYI on parking...the area has become very popular due to the brewery across the street and other local restaurants that are thriving on this side of town. It was still difficult to find parking on National Avenue despite it being a Sunday. We visited for an early dinner with some family members on a Sunday evening. I was blown away by the decor and ambiance, such a beautiful space. The service was excellent and we were shocked to learn that we were our server's first table on his first night there. We tried a couple of appetizers, the olive plate and the fried pickles, both were delicious and sized nicely for sharing. Three of us went with the trout, which was pretty good, nice presentation with the carrots and pesto. My uncle tried the tofu bibimbap which was presented beautifully and he seemed to enjoy it. I was very impressed with how welcoming they are to families with small children. They have a family restroom, activity caddies with crayons and play-dough, and their kids menu is extensive with interesting options. My son had the kid's charcuterie platter which was filled with upscale kid food- ham, cheeses, fruit, and cracker bread. I didn't order dessert, but couldn't resist tasting a few bites that were offered by my dining companions-- the brownie sundae was a hit, very rich. First off - the food is fantastic! We were a bit confused by eppings and poppy & olive but I guest it's the same but different dining concepts. The salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My husband loved the meatloaf ! He tried the old fashion with woodford and said it was one of the best he has had. I tried the patio margarita. So good! Everyone was spread out and wearing masks. They checked your temperature on the way in. Get a reservation early in the week for eppings but if you are ok sitting inside get a reservation for Poppy and Olive. My wife and I in last night for dinner with two other couples. Incredible dinner! I had the beef skewers with slaw and beef tallow fries. Excellent. My wife had the chicken-as good as it gets. Tried three desserts. Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake and the Dark Chocolate Espresso Tart were two of the best desserts I've had in a very long time. Sav's chocolate ice cream is great as well. Lovely ambiance, chic elegant decor, delicious and gorgeously presented food! I adore the beautiful makeover this landmark building received. All of the staff we encountered were so accommodating and welcoming. Halloumi fries (yum!) and warm briny olives with feta and fresh bread were perfect starters to share along with a crisp bottle of champagne. The scallops and the pork chop were perfectly prepared and handsomely plated. I have to say- I was a little skeptical when my friend ordered the "tofu bibimbap"; my mother is Korean and I've enjoyed a lot of great bibimbap. But once again, Chef Arimes dazzled with his take on this Korean classic, honoring the original flavors while elevating the ingredients and presentation. My friends and I couldn't settle on a single dessert to share (so many delicious options!)- so even though we were stuffed, we went with the strawberry shortcake, carrot cake, AND brownie (HEAVEN). Oh my, it was worth being miserably full! :) This building houses Epping's, a bakery, bar, and a family friendly side "Poppy & Olive". I can't wait for an opportunity to bring my children here! The Poppy&Olive bathroom is the cutest (tiny "potty" and sink included!) And the kids menu looks wonderful (e.g-charcuterie board for the littles). I can't recommend this place enough! Food was just OK. Expected better quality for the price point, but half the menu online seemed 86'd so that should've been a clue that this wasn't going to go well. Chopped salad is iceberg and not a good mix of ingredients (ie more lettuce than anything). The peppercorn ranch was good ranch, for what it's worth. Added blackened chicken and got maybe a half breast for $8 that was way too heavy on the salt. Kids burgers and fries were standard kids meal quality at a $6 standard price point. Didn't get the drink I ordered and paid for. Chose curbside since I'm not from the area or familiar with the restaurant, and it was offered when ordering. Hostess barely could find my order and definitely didn't offer to bring it out, letting me know it was at the hostess stand. Left a tip for the curbside service. Had to go back in after I checked my bags for the silverware. Wasn't impressed with the hospitality for the price point this restaurant asks for. Was so put off by the experience I forgot that I had ordered a drink. I booked this restaurant for my mother's 70th birthday party and got the larger of their two rooms. It was beautiful! They had floral arrangements, candles, and linens. Gorgeous. We were able to play our own music and even did some dancing! Tabitha was really easy to work with and was so pleasant and nice. John our server took great care of us. And the most surprising of all (because I've had catered style food for large parties and am almost always disappointed), the food was amazing! They provided large portions and delicious food for appetizers, everyone enjoyed their dinner--salmon, pork chops, and steak were all cooked perfectly. The restaurant was a huge disappointment. This was a big night out for us...family of 6. It was our celebration of a final day in the military after 30+ years. The service was below sub-par. I visited on a Monday during lunch hour. We were asked if we had a reservation, we did not, but there were several seats open at the bar which was fine with us for two people. My friend enjoyed a well crafted cocktail and I ordered the tomato and garlic confit soup as an appetizer which sounded amazing and was an excellent choice. My entree was the mixed greens salad with chicken added which sounded very healthy as described on the menu and was very tasty. My friend ordered the house made pastrami Reuben sandwich which I had to take a bite of because wow it looked glorious! And it was! It was quite a large sandwich so my friend thought he would take half of it home but he couldn't stop eating it since it was so delicious! Haha! Service was quick and excellent and the interior is lovely, modern, clean and light. We tried items from the bakery after our lunch but left a little disappointed with the cookies and the bread we brought home to eat later. Wow! We loved it so much. My wife and I went and we agree: 10/10 for service, hospitality, environment, etc, 10/10 for breads and a 7/10 for food. But let me explain! We were super impressed by the host, our waiter and all those who attended us. They were so personable, kind, talented, polite, and so efficient. Seriously, some of the most attentive and helpful service I've ever had...such hospitality. The interior of the place is gorgeous, it feels classy and cozy and has such a welcoming feel to it, can't wait to frequent it. We heard about their sandwiches went on night two and ordered a burger with mac and cheese and a Reuben pastrami sandwich with fries. First the great: We were so delighted to receive a complimentary basket of bread at the beginning of our service, we devoured it and enjoyed every bit, especially the cracker pepper butter and the honey butter. My wife ordered a cocktail and I quickly commandeered because it was one of the best drinks I've ever had, the Pear and Bourbon drink, Can't remember it but it was amazing. We also ordered the house burger and tasted amazing, had great sauce, was well seasoned. The mac & cheese tasted great and looked nice, the Reuben was delicious and so meaty and the pastrami was incredible. The to-be-improved-upon: The burger meat was over worked so that, even though it was cooked properly and was not dry, it was too firm for a burger. The mac & cheese is made out of white cheddar and has bread crumbs on top. My wife's complaint is that it wasn't cheesy enough and didn't want the bread crumbs, I dunno, I'm not a mac and cheese guy at all. But she liked the flavor! The pastrami i quite enjoyed but the (homemade) bread on the sandwich was unfortunately soggy by the time it got to me, I know this can be remedied easy just by easying up on the liquids or toasting the bread longer! We will certainly be back again and again to see how they've improved! We also ordered the dessert. It was the pavlova with a vanilla chantilly cream, seasonal fruit curd and fresh berries. It was delicious and we quickly attempted to devour it but were slowed down when we got to the middle and found it to be chewy and hard and impossible to cut without a knife...and even more impossible to chew. Oops! It was probably just a little over baked (meringue is SO TOUGH to perfect) but we love the fresh fruit, the curd, and the whipped cream. Due to the taste and beauty of this dish, we absolutely would order this again in hopes that it would be less chewy. So that's my review, 8.5/10, I recommend going and trying it for sure, get a sandwich, get a cocktail, get dessert. I'm positive you wont regret any of it. We are looking forward to going back and trying it again and I'll be sure to update my review when i do! read more

I'm thrilled that a new bakery has moved into this space and it is lovely inside. They have a wide variety of items such as bread, bars and cookies, croissants, and their homemade pop tarts. I went in to try one of the pop tarts and ended up getting a sample of many different things since everything looked so delicious. I got two croissants - one plain and one filled with spinach and feta. Both were huge and delicious! Their croissants are flakey on the outside and moist on the inside. The filled one was a little more expensive than I anticipated (over $8) and if I knew that (there was no price listed) I wouldn't have purchased it. Sadly, all the other items I tried were a disappointment. The pistachio eclair didn't have much flavor and the same was true for the cherry breakfast bar. I tried all three flavors of their pop tarts and didn't care for any of them. They just mainly tasted like plain dough. Of the three, the Nutella s'mores one had the best flavor, but I definitely wouldn't get it again. The customer service was great and I would love to frequent this place, if only for the croissants. But I do wish the other items I tried gave a better indication of what the rest of their sweets might be like. read more

Man, overall I'd have to say this was a disappointing visit to say the least. I'd taken EH for her birthday and we were excited to see what the buzz was about. Before I go into details, I'll have to say that Garrett our server did a great job and was apologetic due to the troubles we encountered. To start we wanted to try the charcuterie board and went with the pick 3 ($16). When it arrived, no one explained what anything was on the board or else we would have figured out more quickly the board items were incorrect. Our server was astute and quickly identified this and had another board made up. This brought up a second problem, timing. As they were working on getting our correct charcuterie board, we had our bread and entrees come out at the same time. The kicker had to be the lady who brought the new board out and saw we had gotten our entrees already so she awkwardly placed it in our table while remarking, "they told me I had to apologize for this item but I'm not sure why." SERIOUSLY, can't make this up. The manager had come up to our table and we told him the issue with the incorrect charcuterie board and he apologized while saying he would "pass along the feedback." The final problem I had was I made my reservation on opentable and specifically indicated that this was for a birthday. However everyone seemed oblivious to that fact and it wasn't ever brought up or mentioned. All in all our entrees (Cuban and impossible burger) were okay but the ambiance and interior of the restaurant is really what impresses. It's a wide open space that felt intimate enough for a couple or a party of 10. I'm definitely disappointed with how our visit went but I hope that some of these problems are part of the growing pains of a new restaurant. read more

Wow!! The white decor is amazing! It makes the restaurant so bright and open. This menu has a nice variety and they have a special for a select menu where everything is $8.00 until 6pm. Excellent idea! Additionally, the owner has one side of the restaurant that is kid friendly and the other is focused on an adult audience. Finally you can have an adult meal that is delicious but have your children present. We tried the sea bass which was light, flavorful, buttery and cooked to perfection. The salmon was very good as well! We shared a banana split bread pudding. It was tasty and fattening! I was extremely pleased and by far this is one of my most favorite restaurants in Lexington!! Based upon the buzz, we were excited to try Epping's on Eastside. The night was a huge disappointment. I am always rooting for new, local restaurants. But if our experience was typical, I don't see this one lasting very long. Our reservation was at 7:30pm on a Monday evening. Two in our party of for arrived at 7:05pm and were pleasantly pleased when the restaurant moved our table to accommodate the earlier arrival. We were appreciative of their flexibility. We sat down at 7:10pm, were promptly greeted by our server and our drink order (a cocktail and a cappuccino) and appetizer order was taken by 7:12pm. We enjoyed the ambiance and the cool vibe as we waited. The server returned to let me know their cappuccino machine was down and asked if I would like something else. I declined. He was very apologetic. The other two members of our party arrived at 7:25pm. The server stopped by at 7:35pm to apologize for the delay in the cocktail but didn't ask our new members if they would like drink. He did ask if we were ready to order. Our new guests asked for a few minutes to look over menu. I indicated I would like our cocktail and appetizer before ordering. The server became flustered and went to check on the appetizer. Upon his return at 7:40, it became clear he had forgotten to place the appetizer order. Again, he was very apologetic. Our guests requested to please order drinks (two glasses of wine). At 7:47pm, the wine was delivered but the cocktail that was ordered 35 minutes earlier was still not present nor was the appetizer. We asked about the cocktail again. The server appeared surprised it wasn't at the table (apologetic again) and walked to the bar to find it waiting. It was delivered around 7:48pm, 36 minutes after being ordered. The appetizer arrived shortly after. I ordered the sausage skewers. The portion size (3 lumps of sausage each about the length of my thumb) was disappointing but the food was acceptable. Nothing spectacular but edible. I wouldn't recommend this appetizer. At 7:48, we placed our order for four meatloaf entrees. They arrived at 8:11. My meatloaf and potatoes were room temperature at best. Given how poorly the night had gone, I asked a fellow dinner to sample it to verify I was not being overly critical. She confirmed the food was cold. Another member of our party also received meatloaf that was lukewarm at best but was so hungry that she opted to eat hers. I got the server's attention and asked that my entree be removed. He offered to have another entree served that was hot. I declined. By this point, I was done with the experience. The two guests who received warm meatloaf indicated their meal was well seasoned and satisfying. The server was again apologetic. At about 8:30pm, the manager came over and asked if I would like a comped entree. I thanked him but declined. I did say I would order dessert and he indicated it would be on the house. All members of our party ordered dessert (bread pudding, two brownies and carrot cake). The desserts were delivered. The carrot cake and brownies were rated as very flavorful by our party. The bread pudding was placed as a to go order. We requested separate checks. They were not accurate when they were presented to us so corrections had to be made and they had to be reprinted. The two cold meatloafs and the four desserts were comped. Given that we waited over 35 minutes for our drink and an appetizer, I felt that should have been as well. But at this point, I was ready to be done. We paid and left at about 9:35pm. Upon returning home, I prepared the bread pudding. I found it bland and the pecans were burned. Thinking I might be judging harshly due to my bad experience at the restaurant, I gave it to my husband, a man who has NEVER had a bread pudding he didn't like. He threw this one away after two bites. He declared it tasteless and the pecans having a charred taste. While the ambience and decor was nice and the staff pleasant, the food was not consistent and the service inadequate. I hope this was just an off night for this restaurant and they go on to great things but I will not be back and I can not recommend this to friends. read more

My friend and I picked this place to try at random and could not have gotten luckier. The pork burnt ends on the dinner menu caught our eye. We arrived at 4:00 p.m. when they opened but the dinner menu did not start until 5 o'clock so we decided to hang around until then and I am so glad we did. We decided to try a sampling of offerings off the bar menu. I never thought in my life I would be recommending trying the baloney from a restaurant but there is a first time for everything. The Bologna sliders were amazing. The Bologna is made in house and is a must try. It paired well with my old fashioned. The fries cooked in beef tallow are excellent and cannot remember the last time I had wings this good. The burnt ends were worth the wait. Perfect texture and flavor. The drinks were perfectly crafted. The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are so welcoming and upbeat. A perfect place to bring a date or just treat yourself.
