The Metro is a decent neighborhood diner, but I wouldn't come from far away for this. The parking is easy. You can park on the street or in the large parking lot around the corner. The wait staff is friendly. If you want to just order a sandwich to go, which I sometimes do, it's expensive. The sandwiches are large and full. The food in general is okay but not great, in my opinion. They do have a nice assortment of cookies and muffins. During the week for lunch, it can be very crowded, and you might have to wait. It's not the same old Heathcote Deli I remember from chldhood but it's good enough! The menu is your typical large deli one; we get the same sandwiches we always have--white meat turkey on rye with Russian dressing and coleslaw. Comes with a pickle andis humongous, i had 3 more meals by taking out some of the turkey so could consume it. The beau ordered brisket and said it was fabulous! Always friendly and the food is great. It is not a fancy place, but the service is always good. I enjoy the Turkey sandwich which is always piles of Turkey about 4". Fresh is better than Boars' Head, but sometimes it is a little dry. My wife gets the chef's salad a lot which is big. They even have wine and beer. Prices are reasonable (but not cheap). Not a typical Jewish deli but a Greek/Jewish deli. Their pastrami and corned beef sandwiches are really 1st class and stuffed. Enough to feed two hungry people. Chicken soup is as good as it gets outside of real homemade. Egg dishes are prepared as you like it. I like my eggs scrambled with nova salmon ( lox) with onions loose. Each time, I have it,takes me back to my childhood in NYC at the original 2nd Ave deli or PJ's on the upper east side. I cannot think of ever having a less than good meal here. yes, i have sent back some dishes to be redone but very occasionally over the years. As if the presence of kids crying wasn't bad enough, I could tell that it was a stroller-friendly restaurant, par for the course at Heathcote too. Make a short story even shorter - I went inside, felt stupid to pay $15 for a regular pastrami sandwich (when the prices on the board says different). I only went once and don't plan to go back. Ever since the new owners took charge, the place has totally lost its warm, corner deli feel. I think the new owners are jerks. Two encounters: 1) I ran into one of the great waitresses who had been there for like 20 years. She let me know that the new owner lead on the staff, letting people like her think that they would be hired, getting all the information he needed from them, and then replacing them all. 2) I went in there once. The place was busy and my dad and I were stuck at a really bad table. I asked the owner/seater we could wait for a table in the corner that was being cleaned instead. "No you can't wait for that table! Somebody else is taking that table!" he snapped. I wrote a nasty note on my napkin and haven't been back. I didn't even notice the food, I was so mad. When she asked the waiter for chicken and waffles he was very rude and said that she has to order two seperate orders of food instead of putting a few pieces of chicken on a waffle as requested.
