What a lousy place. Allegedly now owned by "flicks" I went last night to see a friends birthday party's Bartenders couldn't care less. Drinks were poor. Host was terrible... and Grotesqua was as sad as can be. What an absolute terrible location. I give it less than a year,

Nice outside patio. Dog friendly! Loved the bartender and regulars at the bar. Would go back!

*Drum and Bass night every Wednesday.* Dope spot with really cool, friendly people. Door guys are always friendly and Bartenders provide great service. Drum and Bass night aka Sanctuary hosted by San DNB w/ WerdMC and Adrawn is absolute fire. Free from 8-9pm, after 9pm $5 cover. I would also recommend Sabbat(industrial/ goth) and Blue Mondays (80s/Dark Wave) at this location. Glad to have rediscovered this venue as it had such a makeover. Definitely UPGRADE-d with outside area screens to watch games live and to play cornhole. Upgraded lighting inside as well. This location was formally the Merrow, then before that Ruby Room, and even further back it used to be called San Diego Sports Bar with bartenders Olivia and Tony. Tony apparently still owns the building. Nostalgia. This post was converted from the Merrow to a new profile: EQ. Forgive the double post.

    No more Merrow...

Fun and interesting place for this straight guy. NO MORE LABATTS on draft!!! Only place I knew in SD that had it on draft. Pacifico, Modelo and Stella still on tap. Place jumping today and packed after some softball tournament ended up here.

Well it seems like you can't get drunk at this place . I went the other night to have a few drinks after I had dinner and the girl at the entrance was like you can't come in. I was like why I just got here so I asked to speak with the "manager " which he came and told me the same reason I was not able to come in . Last time I check it's a place to drink. I'm sure I'm not the only one that gets drunk once in a while . DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE YOURE BETTER OFF IN A BETTER PLACE TO DRINK SND NOT BE JUDGE.

Great news pace to pass the afternoon. Bar staff is great and it's a mellow place with a good crowd of regulars.

Awesome spot. Cody the bartender was on it and polite. Couldn't ask for a better happy hour.

Our server took great care of us. The ambience of the venue is different than what it used to be a few years ago. They've switched things up. It doesn't look like there's as much space to dance anymore, but the modern clean feel of the venue was very much enjoyable.

The pool tables were also unavailable, because they invited a pool club team on that day. That seemed to be bad timing on a day that could have been a very high revenue generating evening. I was trying to find out why this place was empty for one of the biggest sporting events of the Summer? I think I found my answer when I ordered a drink. Although $20 for a Long Island Iced Tea is comparable for an upscale restaurant, this place is a dive bar, so it should have been included in a well-drink special menu to bring customers in the door. The selling point of dive bars is usually the reasonable drink prices, the sense of community, and a good place to watch sporting events. This place has potential, but this was unfortunately a miss on all 3 fronts.

Exceptional Hosting by Keagan at Side Bar and Gaslamplighter!…read more If you are planning a corporate event, team-bonding outing, or just looking for an unforgettable night out in San Diego, you absolutely need to visit Side Bar and Gaslamplighter. Our team was in town for our quarterly QBR last quarter, and we went out afterward to let loose on the town. We randomly came across Side Bar on a Thursday night and met Blake the manager who introduced us to Keagan, who completely transformed our entire trip. He was the ultimate curator! He immediately assessed our group's vibe, realized we were out for team bonding, and invited us right in, securing a fantastic VIP booth for my team. After a few shots and grooving to great music, he personally ushered us over to Gaslamplighter for a change of scenery, where we spent the rest of the night enjoying amazing drinks and live karaoke. The experience was so incredible that on our second night out, after hopping around various other bars in the Gaslamp Quarter, our team unanimously decided to end our night right back at Side Bar. Once again, Keagan took flawless care of us. He hooked us up with another booth and a few bottles. We happened to be celebrating a team member's birthday that night, and Keagan made it unforgettable. The staff brought out the full VIP treatment with bright sparklers and "Happy Birthday" signs to close out the night in style. What makes Keagan so special is his attention to detail. Even while working a packed club and making his rounds to ensure everyone was taken care of, he constantly circled back to check on our group. He made every single person on our team feel incredibly important and looked after on both nights. We walked away with fantastic pictures, amazing team memories, and a strong desire to return. Shout out to Keagan and the exceptional teams at both Side Bar and Gaslamplighter; memories were truly made! I highly recommend these venues for any group outing in downtown San Diego.

FRIDAYS, 9:00 pm to midnight $7.00 at the door, $5.00 if in…read morebefore 9:30 pm If you love to dance, but hate the club scene, this is your place. DanceJam is an open floor, mixed dance venue -- music ranges wildly, but tends mostly to worldbeat/latin, 80's and electronica. All styles and abilities welcome, on floor participation not required -- DJ is a great place for non-dancer you to bring your dance-lovin' honey to get the groove on. DJ is family-friendly: you can bring your kids if you like -- so pack up your mind, your muse, your munchkins, your moves, your mojo, your... oh, oops, sorry -- got stuck on the alliterative track for a mo'... whatever you like, truly. Comfortable clothes recommended, also socks or soft shoes for those who don't like to do their boogie barefoot. WHAT IT IS -- FUN: yes, I know -- *duh*. However, I've been to plenty of dance venues that completely failed this primary requisite. INCLUSIVE: everyone is welcome here, and that really does mean *everyone*, regardless of age, sexuality, race, shape, (or lack thereof!) other arbitrary definition or even the inclination to dance. ACCESSIBLE: located just around the corner from Claire de Lune at 30th and Kansas, DJ is easy to get to by any known means of transportation, public or private. NOTE -- parking *can* be a royal pain, and I recommend you do NOT park behind Acoustic Expressions. LOW-KEY: the crowd is very mellow, there is ***LOTS*** of seating for the tired / non-dancing folks, music is various enough to suit most tastes and the people watching opportunities are endless. WHAT IT IS *NOT* -- A MEAT MARKET: if you are looking for a hookup, don't look here -- *totally* wrong venue. A BAR: this is an alcohol, drug and smoke-free environment. BIAS ALERT -- I have been attending DJ for the 20+ years its various incarnations have been in existence -- *of course* I think it is a good thing... and I'm willing to bet you will too. Give it a try -- Tante Dio sez'
