If you're going to do one thing only, you better do it right. Er Buchetto focuses on Porchetta sandwiches and does it pretty well. Reminds me of places like Barney's Pastrami Dip in Everett, WA who only did Pastrami sandwiches or the soup place in New York parodied in Seinfeld. You get the picture. We Yelped cheap food in the Termini area and Er Buchetto popped up. This place is a very tiny storefront with barely any room inside for two small tables. It seems to be ran by one man who is nice but firm. I wanted a double meat porchetta sandwich with cheese but either due to a language barrier or the strict menu listings, my wife and I ended up ordering the same thing - a porchetta sandwich with cheese. Our sandwiches were as basic as they come with simply meat and cheese on a crusty Italian roll. Nothing else. No sauce, no rocket (arugula), no other veggies. It's even served cold. The porchetta was tasty and the cheese freshly sliced. The miniscule space inside of his restaurant speaks volumes with a taxidermy pig (boar?) high up on the shelf, plenty of newspaper clippings with accolades on the wall and, of course, the star of the show - Porchetta under glass with a sharp knife laying next to it. The outside menu is handwritten and apparently he also offers pizza and salad. But who comes here and only orders that? Face it, you're here for the Porchetta sandwich and at a fantastic price of only 6 Euro per sandwich it is worth every penny! Well done sir. read more

Surrounded by larger, more visible cafe's and hotels, this hole-in-the-wall shop is easy to miss. A small doorway with some green signage really doesn't tell you much about what is going on inside. But if you take a quick peek in through the doorway, you will see a round, roasted porchetta just inside the entry with 2 toy pigs providing overwatch while the meatman quietly slices it to order. The menu is not large but the thing to get here is a porchetta sandwich. Double Meat if you are so inclined and cheese can be added but is unnecessary would only serve to cover up the purity of the sandwich filling. A sandwich here may not be life-changing, but it did make my day. The beauty of this place and its food is its simplicity. Perfectly juicy, expertly seasoned, and optimally fatty roasted pork is sliced and put inside a room-temperature, slightly hard white roll. No sauce, no veg, no additional condiments. Nothing covers up this single ingredient sandwich but a white paper wrapper. For $6-7euro, you pretty much get a fantastic taste of how good a cold sliced pork sandwich can be when the creator of it knows what they are doing. There are a couple of small tables outside that you can pay an extra $1euro to sit at but this food is made for walking. Go in, order and take it away to munch on while you continue your foot tour of this amazing city. I love Rome because it is such a complex place with so much to take in. But Er Buchetto is a great example of how exploring the underbelly of this great city can yield some really simple things that are pretty amazing. read more

He continues the same family tradition for 5 generations, specializing in one thing and one thing only: PORCHETTA. You've never met a pork like this: it's like crack! It's roasted for 4 hours, this is a salty, seasoned pork with a super crispy skin. Your mouth will water as you look at this tempting porchetta on display, while he carves off pieces for you and stuffs it in a crusty roll or simply serve it on a parchment paper. My friends and I stopped by this place to grab a porchetta baguette before starting our busy day touring Italy. So this was our first porchetta baguette in Italy and I didn't have any expectations when I first walked in. It's a tiny hole in the wall and they slice the meet right near the door, which is cool to see. There isn't really anywhere to sit especially for a big party like us. We ended up just standing outside while eating our baguettes. The porchetta was itself tasted really good. It was juicy, and not too salty. Unfortunately I was not very impressed with the overall proportion of the baguette to the porchetta. The bread was dry and was way too much considering the small amount of porchetta that was inside. I also found out afterwards you could have ordered additional toppings to go inside. I think having some toppings would've made it sooo much better IMO. Overall, I tried better porchetta baguettes while in Italy, so would probably not go back to spend another 3.50 euros. read more

I was told that I *had* to come here. I was in the neighborhood and my time in Rome was winding up. I'd had some incredible porchetta in Florence but I hadn't had any in Rome. I was told I *had* to correct this. So, I broke up my Colosseum/Roman Forum day to make time to come to Er Buchetto and see what was up. Spoiler: you don't *have* to come here. The meat is good enough but I wouldn't re-arrange your day for it. I enjoyed my sandwich in Florence much more. This shop is small -- even by European standards. Getting in and grabbing a table/service is ruthless. You have to go in with full confidence and no regard for those around you. It's like jumping in to a really intense double dutch session. I was cut in line twice so I just decided to be extra aggressive and take a seat. I hate being that way and the stress of the situation, undoubtedly, colored my reaction/experience. There's not much to it: communal (sort of) seating, porchetta sandwiches and wine. I sat, pantomimed what I wanted (a sandwich and some vino), watched the owner slice some meat of the spit, put it between bread and give it to me. His son (?) poured some tap wine and I went to town. The sandwich was a bit dry but it still had a decent taste. It was also much larger than I expected. In fact, my sandwich and wine ran me 4.5 euros. For the area, that was a steal. Perhaps had I stumbled in to the shop without any knowledge of it or expectation for what was to come, I would have enjoyed it more. Perhaps if I didn't have to push and shove for a seat, I would have been in a better mood. Alas, neither happened and I had the experience I had. YMMV but I don't think it will. This place is a hole in the wall located within walking distance of the train station. You can easily get a porchetta baguette for 3.50 euros. Service is a little lacking as it is a mom and pop shop. We were a little confused about what are options were (such Americans, I know!) but later on we found that we could have ordered tomatoes and other additions to your sandwich separately. I was prepared to be disappointed. I took my first bite. Yea...dry bread and some slivers of meat. I took my next bite...and ooh. I get some pieces of juicy fat that melt in my mouth. Then I get some of the crispy skin. Before I know it, I had scarfed the whole thing down and wished I had another. I ordered a panino con porchetta (porchetta sandwich) and a glass of vino rosso (red wine). The pork was delicious, the meat was tender and tasty while the skin was crispy. I talked with the owner, Alessandro, during my meal and he told me that he got the porchetta from a family in Ariccia but he cut it in Er Buchetto. I told him how amazing the porchetta was and how I love the skin, then he proceeded to gave me extra bits of skin! Staying at a hotel the next block over, Demetra, and while my boyfriend was napping I decided to run over to here for a quick bite after reading reviews. The place to start with is TINY.
