I came here for lunch with my friends and one of my professors to catch up. I ordered the turkey panini because I wanted to try something new, and my friends ordered the caprese chicken sandwich because they ordered it last time and it was good. The turkey panini was not good to me - the bread seemed burnt, the turkey was dry and flavorless, the peach compote and Brie didn't taste well together. The last time I was here I ordered the caprese chicken sandwich, which I LOVED, but my friends who ordered it said it did not taste the same this time and was better last time, so I'm not too sure how I feel about their sandwiches anymore. Where can I start. My latte came out cold, and it was spilled and the server said sorry I had a spill. Haha if it spilled make another. So next the server took our order and when asked what was in the avocado vinaigrette he said he wasn't sure and made up an answer. Steak I'm salad came out well done instead of med rare but at least it wasn't burnt like the burger my friend got that was supposed to be med well. Had to ask for every refill and had to ask for water to go with coffee. They forgot the tomatoes on my salad and forgot to bring olive oil. The server we didn't see him until halfway through the meal that we did not finish. When they could tell my friend didn't like the burger (because burnt) they said it's okay we will just comp it instead of offering her something else or like dessert or something. But hey this is the restaurant of the hospitality school right. They key lime pie dessert 10/10 and the chips starter 10/10. read more

First off, the service is terrible. We were sitting for about 10-12min before anyone said a word to us. We were looking around and seeing all these waiters go by, but not one said anything to us. Finally, who I assume is the manager, comes over and asks if we had been helped. I told him our situation, and he tried his best to help us out. He actually ended up waiting on us the whole night, which was great because I heard some of these waiters with their customers, and they sounded terrible and awkward. One of the waitresses knocked over a gentleman's wine glass AND water glass in one swoop. Spilled everything all over him. OOPS! In terms of food, it was decent. The other 3 in my party got the club sandwich and fries which were both very good. You better not screw up a club sandwich! I got their Tuna. It had this very thick tomato and black olive based sauce. Was not expecting a thick sauce like that. It tasted like it belonged on pasta. Just a little too thick for my taste. I ordered the tuna medium, but received it medium rare. However, the flavor was great! I can't emphasize that enough. I'm not sure how they cook it, but they're doing it right. It came with spinach and I believe mashed potatoes. Both were also delicious. I give it 3 stars because the service is terrible. If you see a table has been sitting for 10 minutes without any attention, at least go greet them and take a drink order! Even if you don't bring out their drinks, you can give the paper to their waiter. Help your coworkers out! We were there for a concert that was at UH. Cute place with a nice view, OK food, and lackluster service. Parking in the garage is convenient, although I wish the restaurant would take care of the validation for you instead of forcing you to go to the front desk. (And to wait if they are busy at the front desk, like I had to wait - why can't a server go take care of it for you? *They* weren't very busy! Or have the mechanism for validation at the front of the restaurant. Hmmmm.... You suppose they don't trust the trainees in the restaurant? I guess that's possible, but it's not *my* problem. The amount of time I had to wait at the front desk was my problem.) Nice looking place, relaxing. View is relaxing as well - an oasis in the midst of one of, to put it mildly, the least attractive areas of Houston. Food was pretty good, but service could use improvement. I got ignored a lot - never got a refill on coffee, for example - while people around me were getting what looked like much (or at least somewhat) better service than I was getting. And there were only two or three parties in the place - there were seriously almost more servers than customers. A lot of servers spent a lot of time just standing around, either staring blankly or chatting with one another. As I understand this restaurant, you're here to *learn* people - find yourselves something useful to do. Like getting me coffee - I actually held my cup up several times when I thought someone might see me, but no one ever did. If you are on campus and want a civilized place to have dinner, this is a good choice. Food is quite adequate in quality. Service is generally adequate. I am frustrated when I put in a table preference with my advance reservation and the host/ess doesn't seem to notice it in seating me. I've had mistakes on the check where the server insisted they were right. Pleasantly quiet noise level until it fills with the lunch crowd, then it gets surprisingly loud. I agree, I like the home-made potato chips, but they'd really be great if they came out fresh or hot. LIke ignoring advance seating requests, this is a touch that gets missed at this otherwise pleasant oasis on campus. read more

Service is very friendly but sometimes slow & under experienced. I sit at the bar and have no problems. Food is great. Everything on the menu is good - no joke. It is a touch overpriced. What you expect form a hotel restaurant but I think most people would be happy with a chillis. When the alternative is fast food though it is worth every penny. read more

The food here is usually good, including the salads, burgers, and sandwiches. Considering its location in a hotel, the price point is fair. In regards to the service, many of the servers are international students who are not only learning American hospitality customs but also how to be effective servers. Keeping it short and sweet....I travel for a living and stay in multiple Hilton's every week. With my stays, I eat at many of the house restaurants, some decent, some awful. This evening I dined at Eric's within the Hilton at The University of Houston. Had the Vegetable Soup, House Salad, Kalbi Filet and Asparagus. All spot on! I really enjoyed my experience here. The evening manager was all over it, and the wait staff right on top of any need. Hernan my waiter was perfect. Highly recommend Eric's. I look forward to tomorrow's visit. read more

A couple of coworkers, colleagues, and I decided to dine here after work when another colleague of ours was visiting from Seattle. After the utterly lackluster experience we had, I hope we didn't leave her with the wrong impression. * Parking & Location: UH students know this restaurant well; they flock to this place when they're craving tastier bites and a lot more class than other UH dining establishments can offer. But to visitors, you can find Eric's in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel near the heart of campus. Agreeing with Cameron B., the Hilton has undergone a renovation in the recent years, which has left the restaurant and the lobby with a new modern look. While I was waiting for my coworkers to arrive, the ambiance and delicate jazz pieces playing in the background made me forget I was back on campus. The restaurant itself isn't incredibly big: there's a few booths, several tables along the window ideal for people-watching, a small bar, and what seems like a buffet section near the back wall, though I'm not sure when or if they even do buffet. Although visitor parking will usually cost you, hold onto your parking stub and your receipt from Eric's and bring it to the hotel front desk. If you parked in the underground Hilton garage and spent $15+ on your meal, the employees will comp your parking fee. * Food & Service: True, Eric's is probably as classy as you can get on campus, but as an outsider looking in, from a patron's perspective, I was really bored. First, since this establishment is part of the College of Hotel & Restaurant Management, it is run mostly by its students. Meaning, the servers/hosts are awfully sweet and attentive kids, but they're timid, forgetful, offer slow service, and will sometimes spill your martini all over your lap (it happened to the table next to us). Strike 1: can I get a Coke? "Here's your iced tea." Strike 2: salad with no bean sprouts and ginger dressing? "Here's your salad with bean sprouts and ginger dressing." *stands there silently and awkwardly while we insist we ordered it without. Strike 3: Split the check? *hands us a singular, completely whole check. Strike 4: Wait, this was supposed to be split. *ignores and runs away. By the way, 35 minutes of waiting for your food goes by a lot slower when you're forcing awkward conversation with your colleagues, munching on really tough, tasteless bread, and panicking when crumbs spray all over your boss after attempting to tear a piece off of said bread. When our food finally arrived, I found my Capelli D 'Angelo to be very one-dimensional and plain. Picked at it a little, gave up, then decided to box the rest up for lunch the next day. My colleagues claim that the Eric's Salad is amazing, but I'm not sure I believe it. Oh, and just to top it off, the to-go box they gave me? The oil from my pasta bled through and left a nice, big, beautiful oily mess on my kitchen counter-top. Fabulous. Just... fabulous. read more

I'm a student of UH HRMA, and thinks Eric's is the worst example of our student, college and program. If you ever been to Barron's, a student run restaurant 20 steps away from Eric's, you will go there 100 times better than Eric's! Pros: 1) Food is better, or more gourmet, than other restaurants on campus. 2) Hilton campus has the best restroom in the entire campus! :D THAT'S IT!! Cons: Servers are student who are not passionate or even care for the customer's satisfaction! If you are a guest of the hotel, the servers tend to serve you a little better. If you're a student, don't even think they'll serve you! I've been in this restaurant THREE times, and the service was DISAPPOINTING for all three times! First time coming, me and my friend saw our other 2 friends sitting on a two-top table. Wanting to sit together, we were looking for someone who can help us find a four-top table. Couldn't find any servers AND managers, we decided to move ourselves to one of their four-tops. After we moved, one of the managers (named CHARLES, who is a UH HRMA alumni with the worst attitude) came to us, and got mad after learning that we moved to a new and open table. As quoted, "don't do that again! You're messing up with the system if you moved like that!" He said all those with no smile and no jokes either! How in the world did he become a manager with that attitude?? Second time coming, the restaurant was quite empty, but we only got seated after 10 minutes of waiting. In our section (on the very right side of the restaurant once you come in), there were only another table of four before us. That table was half done with their meal, and we realized that they were the guests of the hotel. What really pissed us was that the server only came to us ONCE the whole one hour we were there!! We had to asked one of the managers to take our orders, asked another manager for the bread and dippings, and asked the first manager for our check. The server was busying himself with the first table, and did not care about us because we're students! And in the middle of our meal, another table of two got seated in the table next to us. Guess what, the two gentlemen were the guests of the hotel, and the server was on their table the second they sat down!!! Third time coming, the restaurant was busy with many guests from the hotel dining in there. Me and my friend got seated on the very back two-top table, even though we both had many stuff with us. I carried a big box with me, while my friend had a backpack and a stack of papers with him, but we still got seated in a two-top although there were many four-top tables open! Needing a bigger table, we asked our server if she could get us a bigger table, the manager came behind our server and said "NO" while shaking his head. All done with no secrecy at all! We could hear him loud and clear!! After saying that we don't necessarily need a six-top and we just need a four-top, he finally said yes and seated us on the furthest and loneliest table from the door! As always, food is good for a student's standard, but service was AWFUL! Our server this time was nicer, but those managers are the worst!! In conclusion, the MANAGERS are big jokes who don't care about their guests! The same goes for the servers! Don't even think about dining in if you're a student, as the servers would ignore you for the time you were there. Best bet for this is to have a take out or pick up! As I said, I'm a HRMA major, and I know exactly how bad the service is in this restaurant! And it's ironic how it's located in the Hilton College, where the service should be the best out of all places on campus! And if you are a manager of this hotel, staff and/or educator of this college, PLEASE pass on this review! I've talked to many people in the hotel in hope they can better the service in this restaurant, but I was ignored at all times! This place is obviously my favorite to dine in on campus. Classy with reasonable price. We were seated by the window and the view is very nice. I have always liked their American Burger as the portion is huge and really tasty as well. So today I decided to try their Grilled Salmon Salad and it was so good, very tender and seasoned well. My wife and I had no expectations and were pleasantly surprised. Food and wine were good and reasonably priced. My only complaint was that they didn't staff up for dinner before the performance of John Cleese and Eric Idle next door at the Cullen Performance Hall on Tuesday 29 November 2016 and the staff was slammed. This should not have been a surprise since the date had been set several months ago. We also we hoping to have a nightcap after the show but the bar at Eric's had already closed. Ate here for lunch during our daughter's "Dorm Move-In" a week ago. The food was very good., the service was excellent and the view was very nice. We were given complimentary pita bread with a delicious yogurt sauce for dipping. Our drinks were constantly refilled which was nice since the day was so hot. My husband and daughter had the Club Sandwich which they really enjoyed. I had a salad with a sliced sirloin steak on top - very mouthwatering good! The dressing was the best balsamic viniagarette I've ever had. We will be back. read more

I work in the University Center across the street from the Hilton. And when I get tired of fast food, I come here to Eric's for lunch. I am always greeted courteously and I always sit at the bar. The wait staff is excellent and always on point with my order, and the food is delicious. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it considering the freshness and preparation of the food. The salads are plentiful and the steaks are big. I recommend the Bistecca Romana. Its a big piece of meat with some kind of mushroom sauce cooked to your specification. It has steamed vegetables and rice. Very good. read more

This place is just ok for me. It is a good choice when you are tired of the food on campus, but not by much. I only really come when I have the urge to eat a burger. The burgers are better than most on campus, my favorite, but still better. I will say I was a bit disappointed by the service. Even though the place was empty and it was after the lunch rush hour, the waitress was never really around. My friend ran out of her drink and didn't have anything to drink for more than half the meal. The burger that I ordered was good and I really enjoyed it. I dined at Eric's today with my boyfriend. As students at the University of Houston, I felt like we were being treated differently than all the other diners at the restaurant. Our server was more attentive to the older customers, and barely gave us any attention. Everyone around us had fancy wine glasses for their water and drinks. Our waiter gave us regular cylinder glass cups and as I looked around no one else had the glasses that we did. I have been to Eric's before with my father and we had exquisite service. Just because I went with my boyfriend this time, we were treated completely differently. Once our food came out, I had a question about my meal but we never saw the server again until we had to get our server's attention. Even then, she did not reassure me of my question about my meal. Party of twelve at 6:45pm on a Sunday night. Two other tables occupied in the restaurant. Four wait staff, one bartender, and a hostess. Only one person assigned to our table. 20 minutes passed before drink order taken. No water served - had to ask. Drinks came 20 minutes later and water 5 minutes after that. No food order taken until fifteen minutes later - couldn't get their attention. More than 30 minutes before first entree came out. Luckily I ordered my filet mignon rare - it came out an edible medium. My colleague ordered the ribeye medium rare which came out well done. Another colleague ordered the "seared" ahi tuna which was cooked through. Those that got the salmon fared better. The desserts were surprisingly good and they took the orders in a more reasonable time and they came out in a normal time frame - a stark contrast to the rest of the meal. Of course this was two hours into the dinner. Getting the check was another ordeal. Half the group got their checks ten minutes after the desserts were served. The other half had to wait another 15 minutes. We finally left at 9:15. Never, never again at this place. Hilton should be ashamed of how this place performs. read more

Four stars for the service! I am here in the morning occasionally on Saturdays. I always have breakfast which is good. I haven't ever eaten lunch or dinner so I don't feel like I can judge the food completely. Every time I visit I have such wonderful friendly service. It makes for such a pleasant dining experience. Fantastic service! I stayed at the hotel, so I had 3 breakfasts here and ordered room service for dinner three times. Honestly though, if there were other options around (like other than the Subway or Wendys in the Student Center across the street) then I wouldn't have had so many meals here. First of all, the breakfast was really great... but over priced for what it was. The first day I ordered a bowl of oatmeal with berries, toast and coffee, and with tax it came out to about $15. So I decided it made more sense to pay a couple of dollars more to do the breakfast buffet. The buffet was ok... standard fare of scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, fruit, etc. I found it a little disapointing that they didn't have someone making eggs like they advertised (would have preferred some fresh over easy eggs to the 'sitting there for awhile' scrambled ones), and they were out of flavored yogurt every time I was there. I did ask for someone to get me one from the back, which was not that big of a deal, just a little inconvenient. I did enjoy the food for the most part, and if this were just a review for breakfast then I would probably give 4 stars. Oh, should mention the coffee is tasty and always hot. The room service was fast and friendly, and they were great at taking special requests (like light on the oil or sauce on the side), and I thought it was nice that they called me up to see if the food was good. The food itself was very... Houston. Big, fried and greasy. Sorry if that offends any of the Houston folk out there. But seriously, first day I got the salmon. There was a pool of pesto that was so incredibly oily. The salmon lived on top of it. Then were was a pile of mashed potatoes (MMM no complaints!) and vegetables drowning in oil. So the second day I got the chicken. It seemed healthy from the discription. Umm yeah, not so much. Whether it was or not ,it tasted like pan fried chicken in an extremely salty and oily marinara. The same greasy vegetables were on the side but this time the potatoes were filled with cheese (I think?) and fried. Fried mashed potatoes... sort of looked like a softball of fried potatoes. So it was basically a heart attack on a plate. I was glad i had gone to the gym earlier. The last night I got the salmon again with the pesto on the side and steamed vegetables. That was much better and more tolerable. So anyway, a little over priced, but great service, yummy breakfast and probably the dinner is good to most people who want a big portion of something fried. Needless to say, take advantage of the free pass to the Wellness Center if you are staying here for more than a couple of days. read more

This place is a total disappointment. I went there this past Monday for dinner all to enter into a restaurant with no one to greet me. The server was very slow and she did not seem to want to be there. Her english was just as bad as the service she gave me. The food was even worse as it came out cold and was not nicely garnished. This is truly a training facility and its more disappointing that it is inside a hotel to train students to become leaders in hospitality. I will never come back here again. read more

Drove to Houston and got to the hotel about 7:45 pm and wanted dinner. Went to Eric's in the Hilton. Very limited menu. My husband asked if there was okra in the gumbo and waiter said no. When he got his order it had okra all over it. Then they brought him a salad. Hardly edible with little to no dressing. My daugher's pasta and sauce was not really good either. The crabcakes were pretty good. The service was horrible. The waiter only took the order and came back with the check. Did not serve the food or come back to fill drinks at all. Worst service I have ever had in any restaurant in my life! Not a friendly place at all (at least that night). read more
