I stopped in to purchase some new sunglasses. I know they sold Tifosi glasses that I like for outdoor activities. I used to buy super expensive sunglasses and they would inevitably break or I'd lose them so I like these because they fit nice, are stylish, block sun and run about $80. I walked into the store and was immediately helped. I tried on one pair of lens adjusting glasses and he told me to go outside and see how they darken. He was knowledgeable about how and when they darken. He checked into glasses similar to what I had at other stores. In the end I bought a different style from what I had and am happy with my choice. I then walked around the store. They have tons of bikes but also many clothes and accessories. I liked all the Mn themed bike shirts they had available. I'll definitely be back to shop some more. My experiences at Erik's overall have been very positive. Until today at the Eagan store, and it was a deal breaker. Two weeks ago I had two of my Aventon Aventures in for potential tune-ups. They put them on the rack, checked chain, brakes, etc. & told me one needed service, but the other was in good shape, no tune-up needed. I've always been impressed with Erik's integrity. When my fiance' went to use it this past weekend however, it had no front brake. I thought, "maybe something got loose, or disconnected when they were looking at it?". It's an imperfect world, no big deal. I screwed around with it a bit out on the trail with my fingers (no tools) and got it working, but since I was going back to Erik's to pick up another of my bikes & another rack, I hoped they could just see if something was loose while I was there? Nope. Absolutely not. The woman working at the Eagan location (who I've avoided talking to in the past as much as possible) told me she could only put it into the shop to have that looked at. That'd be weeks, maybe months out. I've spent 10k at Erik's buying five e-bikes, two expensive racks, countless accessories, maintenance, trade-ins, etc. in the past 2-3 years. This woman simply was not going to accommodate me. Period. Instead, I took it to another shop where I'd never spent a penny & they tightened up a couple loose screws for free. I'm not mad that the woman in Eagan shop refused to accommodate me. I'm sure it was policy. But, I'll never purchase anything at Erik's again. read more

After test riding an electric bike twice at a different Erik's location, I stopped by to buy it here. I was walking in to purchase a $2,700 bike (Aventon Adventure M), but I had one question - would it fit in the back of my pickup truck to take it home? David would not let me test it. They have had my driver's license and credit card for the test rides in the recent past, and I was registered in their test ride system. I offered them the keys to my truck while I tested the size. They refused and said that I had to purchase the bike first. David was backed up by the other two employees in the shop and told me it was "company policy." I have NEVER had such a bad, mean, mistrusting experience in my life. In the spirit of helping people out, I informed them that this might be the reason their parking lot was empty. I drove over to Erik's in Burnsville, and they said no problem. I tested the bike size in the box of my truck, and Taylor was very helpful. He said that there is no company policy against testing a bike, either riding or fitting it in the back of a truck to ensure that it could be transported home. The guys in Eagan must have profiled me. This would have been bike #6 in my collection, but I may never use Erik's again. Pathetic! Can I give less than one star? read more

Eriks service department is a rip-off. My bike was making a strange noise. They were going to charge me a $100 diagnostic fee and keep my bike for at least 5 days. Then they would charge me to fix the problem. Under no circumstances would they take it for a short test ride. I am no fool. Took my bike to Extreme bike in Thiensville. I waited about 3 minutes to speak to a mechanic. He took the bike for a ride and diagnosed the problem in about 30 seconds and fixed it for free. How's that for good customer service? Eriks, I hope you are listening. Also should mention that they sold me a used bike as new a few years ago. read more

I should have known better! This is not the first time I had issues with Erik's Bike Shop. The last time with bad customer service and issues was about 20 years ago when I got my son his first bike. So I had hoped they improved, but have not. So here I sit with a $3,400 bike and only have been able to ride 11 days this year and 8 weeks in the shop. Last year, I was looking to replace my 8-year-old e-bike (Surly Long Haul Trucker with a Bionx D-500 kit). That bike has over 13,000 miles on it with only minor repairs (same rim and spokes). I also have a Juiced Bike RipCurrentS, and a RAD Mission. Being a heavier rider, I have always been cautious about the spoke strength. On June 7, 2022, I went to Erik's Bike Shop in Eagan where they had a sale. It was there I found the Diamondback Current, and it was on sale for $3,450 out the door. Before I purchased the bike, I spoke at length with the sales staff about my concerns over my size, strength, and experience/fear of rear spoke breaks. I explained 20 years ago I started focusing on the spoke strength as I had issues with breaks and sought out a beefier wheel. In four of my last five bikes, no issues with spokes. The one issue, I took a risk on a Fuji road bike and sure enough, the spokes broke so I had a custom wheel built, and no issues since. This wheel looked similar to the one I had issues with and had a rebuilt wheel completed. The salesman said, "A properly tensioned wheel will not be an issue". I asked again, and a second time, he said it should not be an issue. So I trusted the statements and purchased the bike. Since my Bionx was still working well, I rode the Diamondback less than 300 miles the first year. Then in April of 2023, I started riding the Diamondback more. After about 400 miles, I noticed a spoke broke, right at the hub. Since I was away on vacation, I had the spoke replaced but only was able to ride 2 of my 7 planned vacation days! I came home and rode about another 100 miles and a spoke broke, same spot, right at the hub. That was four commutes to work on paved trails and no rough patches. So I took it to Eric's and over 24 days later, I got it back. I rode it less than 150 miles (6 bike commutes), and another spoke break, right at the hub. On June 20, I took it back to Erik's where I expressed my disappointment about the spokes and suggested a stronger wheel. I was told they would call me "tomorrow" with options. It was on June 23 (days later) I got a call and expressed my issue and concerns, just like when I bought it. He suggested installing stronger spokes and said the bike should be ready on July 5. I told them I would hope to have it for my trip out of town starting on the 8th. I called on July 5 and was informed that the rim can handle larger spokes and suggested a new wheel (over $225 fix). I informed him I was leaving on vacation and really wanted to take the bike. He stated that it should be done on July 12 but not before I leave. In frustration, I accepted the staff's statements and hoped to have the bike when I returned. Since I did not hear from them I called them on July 16, I was informed they expect to have it ready on July 24. Now the bike has been in the shop for over two months, and I rode it 11 days this year. The moral of my rant is do not trust the staff at Erik's Bike Shop. Not sure how they stay in business? Well I do, they sell bikes to suckers like me. I have found my bike knowledge may exceed their staff (who I think are more concerned to make a sale than listening to a customer's concerns) and when I expressed concerns based on my knowledge, they said no issue. read more

About a month ago I went in as an advisor for a friend looking to get into cycling and to get a quality bike for herself. I too was "kinda-sorta" looking as at the time my road cycle was damaged so I needed a new one. My plan b4 stopping at Eriks was to travel to Chicago as they were the closest place I could find that had the type of bike I was looking for. Anyways, we worked with Austin L. at the Eagan location and he helped both my friend and myself out and did an excellent job answering our questions. He totally did not pressure us and was happy to answer our many many many many questions. Doing our due diligence we did go to one other local shop and within moments we knew we had to go back to Erik's and seal the deal. Because of Austin's time and great attitude he got over $6,000 in sales from my friend and I, and we both are VERY happy with our purchases! I was attempting to track down a specific snowboard, and he was able to get it in store prior to my upcoming trip, waxed, and sharpened, setup with my bindings and all. Furthermore, he's multifaceted when it comes to outdoor activities, and therefore shares the same level of excitement you have as you take on your next athletic adventure. Initially, I was concerned about the fit of my old bindings on the new board due to the baseplate no longer being compatible, but he set me at ease when he got the required parts installed, and made sure I was content with my setup before I left the store. This man sets quality example for all managers and employees at every Erik's Bike Shop / Shred Shop /Outdoor Store. I went to Ericks in Eagan a few times to test ride a bike and was assisted very nicely. Went to Bloomington Erik's and had the same experience. Bikes are a huge commodity and they cost a lot of money so I hope Erik's pay their employees well as they deserve it due to the excellent job they do in their repair shop! Just had two bikes tuned up by the service guys and I have to agree they have very knowledgeable employees. Bonus points for employees who notice you steering a bike into their store and they come to the door to hold it open for you. Both times, my bikes were triaged as soon as I brought them in. Then I was given an accurate estimate and within the time promised I was called that my bikes were ready. My 3yr old liked testing out a few bikes and pedaled around the store for a bit. Lots of adult bikes and a smattering of kid's bikes. Lots of accessories and some apparel for adults. Wished they would have had a kid's section: bike hats, shirts, horns, etc. I usually pass on things for myself but given my son's burgeoning interest in riding his bike I might've splurged on a cool shirt for him. The only reason it's not a five star rating is holy retail Batman. The service charges for the tune ups were a bit on the high side. The prices of the bikes were double what you'd see at a Target or Wal-Mart and the clothes prices were in the same range. Maybe I need to stop in when something, anything, is on sale. But I lean towards the practical so that's my angle for this review. Wonderful employees regardless of the prices though. read more

Nick Forsha & Dylan Gawne Eagan Town square Erik's I have been interacting and using Erik's for years. But with the Coronavirus it has added another dimension to my satisfaction with their services. Last weekend I tried to do a small adjustment to my rear derailleur. Let me tell you that watching a youtube video does not make an expert. At least it didnt for me. My adjustments made a small issue into a much more annoying problem. During the virus Eriks has been setup to handle customers in an organized and efficient manner. Long story short, on two subsequent days both Nick & Dylan recognized me behind my mask while patiently waiting outside. Both greeted me by my first name. I knew I had just a small adjustment to be made but I trusted Nick's expertise to do it quickly and correctly. I did not expect preferential treatment. After dropping it off in the morning I went back in the afternoon to check on it and that is when Nick stopped what he was doing to take a few minutes to adjust my setting and make my bike right again. I have had nothing but good service and a cordial relationship with the staff, but especially these two guys. read more

They do a good job here. It is hard to run a profitable shop and they have good products at an OK price (compared to online) which is great because they have the overhead and add value. They also did free service for me which I didn't expect. Staff is always knowledgeable and friendly. read more

I just left the store very disappointed! The Assistant manager, Nathan Cox was not much of a manager type. After asking me what I was looking for, he proceeded to show me a $10,000 bike. I in no way look like the type of heavy duty bike rider and I had just explained I just wanted it for every day hop on and go riding. He then showed me a $800 bike. I wonder why he never asked my price point? I felt he was condescending and not really interested in helping me. When I asked about the bikes on line that were for sale, he seemed not to believe me and treated me as if I did not know what I was talking about. I can't explain the uncomfortable feeling I felt in their store, but I know that this is not a place where I want to make a purchase. That being said, if you are a bike expert and know your stuff, this is probably a good place for you to go. If you are like me and want the guidance from an expert you trust, I would look elsewhere. read more

Great service. I brought my old bicycle in to determine how to get it back in shape. I was met at the door & immediately helped. My bike was placed on the rack. The tech checked the gears, brakes, wheel alignment and inflated the tires. After 10-15 minutes he returned it to me and told me nothing needed to be done. No charge. The employees at this store have always been friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. We had a great experience here when buying my wife's bike. I have since brought both of our bikes in for routine maintenance and for specific issues on my bike. They always get the issue fixed up and follow through on their promise. I have had great experiences with the Eagan branch of Erik's. It is rather funny that the local manager is also named "Erik", but is not the founder/owner. I have purchased two bikes from their shop in the past year. Each time they help me select the best bike for me. The second time I was "sure" about what I wanted, but after spending time with them they made a different suggestion, and I could not be more pleased. I have brought both bikes in for minor service. Each time the service was not only done well, but they took the time to explain what happened and what they did. As a result, I know more about my investment as a result of their working with me. read more

Since writing this review the staffing issues at Eagan have been resolved and the current team at the Eagan store is very good. Also, I can attest that if you don't get anywhere at store level write there corporate office etc. I know three people who have all had bad situations and in the end, ERIKS did the right thing and for this I continue to use them. read more

The employees are friendly and knowledgeable, and they clearly love what they do. That starts with the passion and commitment demonstrated by the store manager, Dylan G. Biking has become my favorite form of exercise in the past 5 years, and I was looking for a way to extend and expand opportunities. Dylan encouraged me to consider new possibilities, and to think about purchasing a Fat Tire bike. He and others helped me select a model with styling and features that are perfect for me at this stage in my middle-aged+ life! They even helped me load it into a taxi cab to get the bike to my home! Time was up on the cheap big box store bikes for my daughters, they served their purpose well through the years. On a very sunny nice day (Saturday, April 23rd), my 8 and 10 girls were full of excitement as I was planning on spending several hundred dollars on new bikes for them and begin a long term partnership with a quality bike shop. This was a referral visit (kudos to Erik's). We arrived at the Eagan, MN store, looked around for ten minutes before any employee contact, okay, no problem. The first engagement was an abrasive delivery of the associate to one of the girls, saying it three ways we don't ride bikes in the store. I'm okay with a message, kids need it, but delivery was very poor and complete overkill. This the first interaction after he took ten minutes to find us. On to conversation, in the associates defense (still frustrated one of the girls was on a bike) the selection for solid bikes in their sizes (8-10 yr old girls) was poor, in fact I would say the selection for most girls in the 7-13 age range is poor as through the tough start we really tried hard to make this work. In short, we left after about four minutes of interaction. The girls were crushed leaving the store as they were so excited for new bikes!! The experience could not have gone worse! Recovery, Kris at Penn Cycle off Cliff Road in Eagan (just West of Cedar Ave) was amazing!!! Two new Trek bikes for the girls on the same bright fun filled afternoon. Also just received a nice hand written thank you card in the mail! Very nice touch considering she just helped Penn Cycle begin a long lasting partnership where thousands of dollars will be spent. Hopefully this was a one off for Erik's sake as I would not want to do any business with them based on this day's experience. A part of the referral was a bike warranty and service for two years, I COULD NOT IMAGINE NEEDING TO USE THE WARRANTY WITH ERIK'S. read more
