Cyclist since 1983, brought our 1984 Trek 400 in for service. We had high hopes as this was our first experience with Valley bike service. We paid to have a tune-up and new bar tape. The tape install was good, the derailleur adjustment was below what we have experienced at Flanders, Now, Behind Bars and Recovery. We are new to the area and looking for a bike shop, will try Valley again, but our first go around for service was disappointing.​ At $149, the parts that were adjusted were not cleaned, the first time we had ever seen that work done while omitting the cleaning. The staff here are great! I recently purchased a BMX bike from Sams Club for my step-son's 7th birthday. My husband and I have never put together a bike, but didn't think it would be too hard. Little did we know it is pretty challenging (not to mention a test to the relationship LOL). With that said, I have these folks a call to see if they would be able to help with bike set up and tuning even though I didn't purchase the bike from them. They were beyond willing to help and I was able to simply drop off and pick up when ready. Price was reasonable and service was excellent and efficient. I also liked how they took everyone's safety into consideration with their COVID precautions. My step son loved his bike and was a great gift, and I felt good that he will be safe riding this thanks to the staffs help and concern to safety. I have been a long time browser of Valley Bike & Ski dating back to the 1980's. I have made ski equipment purchases (poles, jackets, bindings) here and there over the years and have taken my bike in for tune-ups as well. The service has always been excellent!! Have always had great experiences with friendly knowledgeable staff, however the ski equipment (skis, boots) have always been lacking or over priced...until my most recent visit. I was very impressed with the variety of race ski selection and it was all 50% off. I purchased a pair of Nordica Dobermann SL Race Skis w/Marker 16.0 Race Bindings. This is the first time on SL Race Skis since 1988. WOW!!!! I had forgotten how fun it is to "drive a Porsche". Very happy with my purchase and experience at Valley Bike & Ski. They also mounted bindings and waxed skis in a 24 hour turn so I could get some late season turns in on my new skis. I'll make it a point to stop in more often. DO NOT SHOP HERE I stopped in on Tuesday 4/21 to test ride a bike. A store employee came out with me for the short test ride around the parking lot. after the ride the employee took the bike back into the back of the store, I look around a little more and left. shortly after leaving I stopped for gas and realized I no longer had my ID and must have left it at the store as they require you to provide an ID for a test ride. I called the store Tuesday night but no one answered. I called again Wednesday morning and spoke with the service manager. They said my ID was no where to be found and was very adamant they returned it but refused to reach out to the employee I provided it to for verification. I called several more times on Wednesday looking for updates, each time given the run around. On Thursday morning I talked with the service manager again and pushed that they ask the person I provided the ID too. shortly after the service manager called me back and notified me that they had mistakenly reported me to the police for stealing the bike I test rode. There was no apology, there was no empathy or any offer of assistance to work with the police to resolve the issue. I was told my ID was with the police and I would have to work with them directly. I have contacted the store several times leaving my information and requesting a call back from the store manager. it has been a week and they have not returned my calls. Valley Bike and Ski staff have been terrible to work with and their actions caused me to miss closing on a house because I didnt have my ID. an apology at minimum would be appreciated. I worked with Sergeant Jason of the Apple Valley police to have the case against me closed and my ID returned. I want to applaud the efforts of the Apple Valley Police to resolve this quickly despite the lack of cooperation from Valley Bike and Ski. I hope that this warning is not taken lightly and that customers think twice about shopping here and that staff is certain of crimes committed before falsely reporting them to the police. You have lost a customer for life. read more

Having been around to several of the shops in then area I was most pleased when I realized I was dealing with folks who had the same desires I do. First and formost with these guys is that they don't work on commissions. Unlike some of the other stores here you're not getting the hard sale. These guys truly have your interests at heart. I have a very round shaped head and had a very hard time finding a ski helmet that fitted properly. We had stopped by 6 different other places prior to Valley SKi & Bike and no one was as knowledgable as the staff here. We not only found a helmet that was a pretty good fit but they also offered several other options of helmets that come in an Asian fit that they could order. I would definitely recommend giving them a visit if you've had a hard time finding an item. The staff is so knowledge and helpful. Even if they don't have it they can at least point you in the right direction. It was well worth the 45 minute drive for us. read more

I have some older (1940s & 1970s) Bicycles. I have used these guys in the past years for tires and some minor repair work to a 1940s Huffman. No complaints from the past service. I recently brought in a "somewhat beat up" 1970s Huffy 3 speed for some evaluation & mechanical overhaul (brakes & shift mechanism.) 2 of the employees were friendly and try'n to be helpful, But a 3rd (whom I'm guessing was their lead Bike Mechanic) was rather whiny, condescending and kinda a jerk. He acted like I was wasting his precious time. (He could have just given me a simple friendly response without attitude and I would have been OK with it.) I restrained myself since I usually try to get along with most people - even when they are being Jerks to me. But the more I thought about it (after I left the shop) the angrier I got. I will be using a different shop in the future ... Boo to you Valley Bike & Ski .... Boo. The Free Market is a good thing, plenty of other Bicycle shops out there. read more

I've only been in here a couple times, but I was impressed. The first time I went in, I needed a Presta valve adapter. As soon as I walked in, someone was asking if I needed help and directed me to what I needed. I was in and out in under 5 minutes. Yay! The second time, I had lost my valve cap and was looking to get a couple new ones. One of the bike fixers just gave me a couple for free. He was very kind about it and asked if it was the big kind or the skinnier kind of valve (in case I didn't know what they were called, lol). Although it looks kind of dingy from the outside, it has lots of cool stuff inside (including tools), and everyone is nice and very helpful. If you're in the area and need something related to bikes, you should definitely check it out. read more

Purchased a bike last September for my husband's bday. The bike was on back order. We paid the price of the bike, $900 dollars and we were told they would call once the bike was delivered to the store in the Spring. My husband received the call and went last week to pick up his bike. Once he arrived they said he owed $77 dollars because the price went up since the day we purchased it?? Not sure how they can charge a customer a new price months later after we already paid for the bike in full. Total scam!! We will never give Valley Bike and Ski our business again. Be aware of them changing the price after you pay in full from the original price of the sale. Not sure how they think that is ok?? read more

We have outfitted our entire family for skiing and snowboarding through out the years. I was concerned about staying warm on the slopes, especially in Lutsen and Duluth, but learned quickly that with the right equipment it was never a problem. The staff was so helpful and patient with finding the right boots and boards for us and taught us a ton as the kids grew or changed their interests. Being a family of 6, we always looked for sale items and were never disappointed. Always great service, great products and great prices. It's now been over 12 years and we keep going back. read more

Bought my bike here a year ago, paid $500 for a westwood it came with a bent wheel and the brakes not properly lined up on the frame. I only rode it once and when I brought it back in less than a week after I bought it to ask that they fix it they told me it was my problem and I must have done it. So basically dont buy a bike here, there are too many awesome places to go. read more

Alexis at Valley Bike and Ski is an asset to this shop. My son's bike was stolen at U.W. Madison a month ago (12/18/18). He just found it--locked up by somebody else. While the policeman was with him, I called Alexis and she snapped a picture of the receipt for me (showing the serial number) to furnish to the policeman. It was that quick. The police are helping him get his bike back as I type. Don't bother with this place. Went in to replace a broken spoke and true my rear wheel. 2 problems. First, the website price chart say $15. I was charged $20 for service + $1 for a spoke. So maybe they raise the price and haven't update their website, I can live w/ that but the 2nd problem is unacceptable. Second, the wheel is visibly more wobble more than it was before I bring it in. I didn't check before leaving the shop because I figure it's a simple job, how can they screw up but I was so wrong. I like to support small local shop but forget about this place. read more
