I appreciate Erik's being a reliable vendor for ebikes, for sales and service. Buyer beware: there are so many startups, and customer service and parts distribution is spotty and time consuming. My Aventon has been in the shop for over a month. It required a special part that only arrived last week. For mysterious reasons, deliveries from Erik's own distribution warehouse is spotty and inconsistent. Now that the part is "in hand," the month-long repair is stretching out at least another week and a half. I can't imagine this happening in any auto repair shop. Why is this so difficult? read more

My bike seat post broke about a mile from home so I carefully pedaled to Erik's in Highland Park. I purchased a new post and was going to replace it myself. However Mark and Tim, who were at the front desk, cheerfully took care of it for me! It took them less than 5 minutes and I was back on my bike, resuming my planned ride. I found a great bike and was impressed with the sales process I encountered. Maddy insisted she adjust the bike the way it should be versus the way I requested. I'm glad I listened, she knew best, and it made a ton of difference. I'm very happy with the bike and she changed the way I ride. Within a month of my buying the bike, a Raleigh Detour 3 (which I highly endorse), a reflector fell off the handle bar. Waste of money and time going here. I bought a $1k mountain bike and after the summer season I took it in for my free maintenance. They refused to look at my bike and said it was worthless because there was a small (pinky sized) dent in the frame. Then they proceeded to tell me they'd give me a 5% discount on the purchase of a new bike. Complete robbery if you ask me. Updated review. Bought a bike in March. I really like it. Sales peeps were great. Was assured if there was any trouble it would be taken care of and that it was normal if there was as new bikes break in a bit. Flash forward to end of June, I bring in the bike for issues with the back break and gears. Their schedule to get repairs is slick, kept riding until my repair date. Brought my bike in and their COVID procedures are a bit extreme, but they do it well. Then I get the call. Apparently chain lubricant has somehow gotten all over my back brake wrecking it. Now, I'm the sort of person who has to ask the bike shop to tighten my kickstand due to total and complete lack of tools. I certainly don't have or use chain lube. Frankly I didn't even know it was a thing until this call. But the person insisted that I damaged the pads, and therefore would have to pay the repair. I tried to explain that the back break was never working well, and the response was basically "that's because you applied lube" and when I said I didn't their response was "well we didn't, so...". Being accused of being a liar by a business I have dropped over $1,000 into in the last six months is not okay. I will do my business elsewhere from now on. read more

"Same day service" sign out front, so I took my bike in for replacement of flat rear tire. I had been thinking about getting new tires because the person I bought the bike from said she had two flats on the back last season, and there was a tire sale, so I took them up on it. Of course, the same day service wasn't actually available, but they did get the bike back to me the next day. Rode 1 mile, on the road, with my daughter to a movie. Came out, and back tire was flat. Called and was told I should have checked the tire pressure (because they didn't do that before I picked it up???) and there's no guarantee or warranty on tubes because road hazards, but since I'd just picked it up they'd replace it for free. I verified that they would have checked the rim and looked for other issues with the tire (there shouldn't be, with new rubber, but, still...) and was told they did. Walked bike home to get car, took it in. They couldn't fix immediately, so left bike. When husband picked it up the next day, they charged him for the tube. Rode 1/2 mile, on road, and front tire BLEW OFF. Completely separated from rim in several places. Walked bike home again, but couldn't roll it, so, super fun to carry it back. Put it in the car and took it back to Erik's. This time, I didn't even bring it in, I just went in and asked for a refund of all my service fees and said I'd take it somewhere else. The man I spoke with, Richard, said he'd like to try to make it right and would do the work himself. Came out and looked at the tire, bead was shredded, so good possibility the tire itself was defective. That happens, and it's no one's fault, so I left the bike there and he worked on it for the next 30 minutes. In addition to replacing the front tire, he cleaned and oiled the chain, tuned up the derailleurs, and cleaned the bike. He also refunded the tube I'd been charged for. I felt much more confident picking it up. Went out to ride today and the back tire was low, but it's a cooler day, so I aired it up without thinking too much of it. Rode 1.5 miles to the beach. When we went to leave the beach, back tire was completely flat. Again. As much as I'd like to get the rest of my service fees back (~$30 for the installation of the two tires and original tube) but I just don't even want to deal with going back there again. I'll be taking it somewhere else. read more

They sold us a bike and took a deposit. They said it would be there in a week for pickup and they'd call us when it was ready. We called them almost two weeks later and inquired about the status of our purchase and it turned out they sold it to someone else. Their solution was to refund the deposit and that was it, no offer to help find a different bike, no discount on another bike, nothing but our money back and two wasted weeks. They did apologize but I don't think I'd buy another bike from them (and yes, we have bought bikes from them before). read more

AVOID the St. Paul store on Ford Parkway! I've had multiple negative experiences but the bottom line is I bought a bike from Erik's and THE BIKE WAS SLOPPED TOGETHER AND NOT TUNED UP. I would have never known it was unsafe for riding had I had taken it immediately to another bike shop in town to get Look pedals installed (Erik carries the clips but not the pedals...) and the mechanic asked me when I last had the bike tuned up because the brakes were not set up correctly, pedals loose, tires not full of air, etc. and said it needed a tune up. I had JUST wheeled it out of Erik's brand new! The mechanic said it was slopped together. I called Erik's to provide this feedback, thinking it was a one-off incident and that they would appreciate the chance to make it right and hear this feedback BUT instead the assistant manager got defensive and said all of the mechanics work is great (despite the fact he admitted he did not double check it), that he gets his bike tuned up there, and he was sure the other bike store was just trying to hate on them. MAJOR RED FLAG they do not care about quality, details, safety or customer experience. I was most disappointed he did not take the feedback seriously from a safety perspective. Lastly, I was trading in a bike and was quoted a price then they completely changed the quote and were rude about it. I also had them install two cleats on two pairs of shoes that were so uneven we had to have them both re-done. AVOID ERIK's BIKE SHOP if you care about detail oriented tune-ups and safety - there is no attention to detail. Despite the free tune-ups for a year, I will NOT be having my bike tuned up by Erik's ever again. read more

Simply fantastic! It's one thing to be good on one day... but Erik's has been my go-to shop for more than 7 years now. 5 bikes and countless referred happy friends. Erik's continues to impress. During the pandemic the staff has been ultra-careful, cleaning, social distancing. Despite high demand and difficult working conditions the shop has been reliable, professional and friendly, keeping us on the road and safe. Erik's has all of the benefits of multiple locations and big inventory while maintaining the feel of a local neighborhood shop where everyone knows your name. This week alone: Garret spent several hours making sure my son's new bike fit him perfectly, swapping a stem and measuring millimeters at a time from seat to pedals to handlebar. As the store manager, he has 'made it right' whenever something went wrong and is genuinely interested in ensuring our family's bicycles fit our needs. He is always smiling, listening, being kind, respectful and just providing great service. I particularly appreciate his attention to detail and responsiveness. Gerard was particularly amazing at sorting out a very complicated and mysterious grinding noise after a new chain and cassette were causing trouble. The repair required nearly everyone at the store to coordinate, but Gerard was meticulous, systematic, and made the problem his personal challenge. It was clear he cared about doing a technically impeccable repair but also shares a love for cycling and helping us not-so-pro customers enjoying our rides. He fixed other issues as he found them, always alert to adjustments. So much attention to detail! the bike and drive train was so clean when he finished... Wow! Great critical thinking, great problem solving and constant communication about parts ordered and accurate estimates of costs. Gerard continues the tradition and standards I have expected from Dave Tendall (Erik's St. Louis Park) -- arguably the best bike mechanic in the twin cities. Dave has built three sets of wheels (amazing, flawless really) and diagnosed and fixed so many idiosyncratic issues with high and low-end bikes. Andrew (Dave's new apprentice) has spent hours diagnosing small issues. I would drive my bike accross the city to get any of them to my repairs, lucky for me Gerard is right in our neighborhood. About six months ago I walked in to purchase an Electric bike and the people working more so snotty I walked out and bought it elsewhere. Today I returned and had terrible service today from Maddi. I bought a bike mirror and many accessories just two days ago. I was told it the mirror mount was universal and could fit on the end of any size handle bar. Since it did not fit my handlebar I brought it back to exchange it and I was told I would have to have a receipt in order to exchange. I told her they were going to exchange it and I just need to find a new one. When I return to the counter she told me she had to take four dollars off because it could've been on sale. I offered to show her the statement on my phone with the credit card charge and she said that would not work. I told her I was not happy and would take the lower price, and that I would absolutely never return. She then told me the mirror looked scuffed. I said that I did not want to pursue this conversation and that she did in fact win the power struggle. I grabbed my credit card and was told I had to wait for the receipt, to which I replied, "No, I don't have to do anything and I will never return." I wonder why they train the snotty kids working here to act this way, or maybe nobody really cares. I wanted to share this because they lost my previous business, and now all future business. read more

I took the bike in to Erik's Bike shop on Ford Parkway in St. Paul, MN, a dealer for Aventon, to get my new Aventon Pace 500 bike's rear brake bled (less than 80 miles on the bike) . They informed me it was under warranty and would be fixed in 2 days.  After 2 days, I called and they said in a rather irritated manner that it wasn't done, and don't call them - they would notify me when it was done. Two weeks later, I went in to check (they never contacted me) and was told it wasn't covered under warranty since I hadn't purchased it there, and that they were waiting for my approval of the charge (although they had never contacted me). I indicated I would pay the $35 cost, and then they told me they didn't have the part and couldn't fix it. I spoke to the service manager, and he said he would check and get back to me the next day. He didn't. A week later (total of 3 weeks), I was still not contacted, thus I called again, and it was still not fixed. I was informed that someone would work on it that day and call me, whether fixed or not, at the end of the day.  Again, no contact that day nor the next morning. I called in the afternoon, and after a very long wait on hold, they said it was done. So three weeks later, I got my bike, an apology, and a slight discount. This service model just doesn't work, and I'm afraid that all Erik's shops work this way. I have no confidence it will change. The total lack of communication and disregard for the customer is just not acceptable. I can no longer recommend using their service or even buying a bike there since they would be doing the warranty service. read more

Stopped in just to browse as I was in the market for a new road bike (it's Minneapolis, how can you not own a bike?) I browsed for a few minutes before an employee offered me help. I told him I was in the market for a new bike, and before trying to sell me anything, he took multiple measurements to ensure a good fit for the bike. I test rode a 2013 Specialized Allez and it was love at first ride. It was on closeout and I got a great deal on it. The employee never tried to sell me anything I didn't need, and was super helpful on explaining everything I needed to know about the bike. They might not be quite as local as some of the shops in town, but the service and selection is pretty fantastic. Can't complain about the free tune-ups for two years after a bike purchase, either. read more

We had a great experience buying from ERIK'S in Highland. No pressure just very informative sales staff. Recently that bike was stolen and , thankfully recovered. The person that found it called ERIK'S because of the sticker on the bike and thru the serial number, Richard at Erik's, called us. The bike was slightly damaged. We took it back to get it fixed and got to meet Richard first hand. He couldn't have been more helpful. Dealing with them was a Bright spot in an otherwise crappy situation. During these odd and unsettling times I bought a new bike from this location. Really happy with the whole process and outcome. The store has systems in place to manage social distancing during the shopping process. Garret listened to what I was looking for in a bike, sized the bike properly, showed me some options in different price ranges but didn't try to upsell me. They had the bike ready for pickup the same day even though they told me initially there would be a 24 hr turn around time. read more

Do not try to make return, they will attempt anything to make you keep the product or make you pay some sort of fee even it has not been used. The MANAGER at this store is extremely condescending and is a liar. He said the bike was in perfect condition so I wont be charged a restocking fee... however at check out I was charged $75 for returning the accessories without the boxes, WHICH THEY INSTALLED BEFORE I COMPLETED MY PURCHASE AND DIDNT NOT PROVIDED THE PACKAGING FOR. When I tried to argue that was not fair he said he changed his mind the bike is actually not in perfect condition and that was going to be what the fee is for. He then proceeded to tell me to leave and walked away. He put the returns under another employee's name, when he was the one who made the sale, which was very suspicious (side note). I will be calling corporate and filing a complaint. read more

Would be at every other bike shop I have been to in the Twin Cities Not for Erik's I have to wait for the guy at the mechanic stand to finish emailing or something. No other customers in sight. Then he says he is unable to work on the bike unless I give him first name last name address email and phone number. Is this the NSA? Gave him fakes Then he says he has to check to see if there is even a mechanic available and if so there could be bikes in front of mine so it could be an hour or so. THERE IS NO ONE ELSE HERE!!! I bought a 25 dollar bike light. Brought it home, realized it was a repackaged return. Missing parts, reassembled badly, broken. Why would they put something so obviously broken back on the shelf for somebody else to buy? I returned it. 20 minute drive to get there. They offered me a replacement of the same unit after I asked for my money back. The replacement was also missing parts, another return they were trying to fob off on me. I asked for my money back again. They told me they had some more, unopened, in the basement. I told them I wanted my money back. They told me they were trying to work with me. I told them I wanted my money back. Finally they gave me my money back. Here's a hint: Don't sell me overpriced, defective merchandise, and then expect that you are going to keep either my money or my business. read more

I was asked if I was in a hurry, and I was not so they took complete measurements and a good fit for a road bike. Additionally, they analyzed my profile and needs and geared me up with the perfect bicycle. The fit was amazing, and I did not want to jeopardize not getting the bicycle fit so perfectly again, so I bought it. I am changing my review from the three stars I originally gave them to four stars due to their response to my previous review in a personal letter they sent to me (never expected they'd even read my review) Here is the original review (unedited). I have posted a few additional, definitely redeeming, facts below Why I was going to give them five stars. First, the great service I got when I bought my bike was the best service I'd ever received when purchasing a bike (I am 51, so I've bought a fair share of bikes over the years). In fact, it might be the best service I've ever had buying anything. Here's why: Jason. The guy really knows his stuff. He did all kinds of measurements of my body to get a good idea of the kind of fit and the bike geometry that might work for me. He set me up for a bike ride, and off I went. I paid close to $2,000 for the bike I wanted, so I didn't buy it until the next day. Based on my final purchase decision, he even gave me a little bit off the retail price of the bike. Why I am giving them three stars. Fast forward two days. I go in to get a few more accessories. The help is good, if perfunctory. I see they are now having a five day sale in which they are offering sizable rebates if your purchase price is fairly substantial. They hadn't mentioned anything about this when I bought my bike two days previously. I ask about it, telling them I just spent nearly $2,000 there. I ask to speak to the manager (Rob). He's busy. I wait. He's still busy (I can see him talking to the sales guy I'd asked to get the manager). Rob tells him there is nothing he can do, and that he should tell me that (rather than Rob telling me). I ask to speak to Rob again (now been waiting over 15 minutes). The guy tries to get rid of me, tells me there isn't anything that can be done. I ask about their return policy. He tells me its 30 days. I have barely ridden this bike and haven't used any of the other stuff I bought. I tell him I will return it all if that's the way they want to treat me. Finally, the manager comes over to talk to me. I tell him my situation. He says, okay, I can just to do an electronic return and repurchase to get you the rebate. He seemed pretty clearly miffed and dismissive. Why the runaround. Why the hassle. He told me they hadn't known anything about the sale until the day after I bought my bike. Maybe, maybe not. Even so, why make it a big deal. Should have been a customer service no-brainer. Maybe they are great to you until you buy a bike, and then afterward, they don't care about you anymore. I don't think that's the case based on previous experiences at other Erik's stores, but that was definitely the feeling I got from Rob at the Highland store. Not good. Had I not had such a good experience with Jason, I would likely have returned everything, bought a bike from Penn Cycle (had great experience with them last year) or the Alt, and then they'd be getting a one or two star review. Now, I have a really great bike, good fit, good deal, and never want to go back to the place I bought it. Not a big deal for something that costs a few hundred, but makes me kind of regret given them $2,000 worth of business. Okay, so here are the additional comments that justified a bump from three to four stars. After I wrote this review, I received a personal letter from Rob apologizing for what happened at the store when I asked for inclusion on the sale. He acknowledged that I caught him at a "bad time" (he was busy with another customer when I came in, which is true), and that he failed to get the complete story from his staff about when I bought the bike (he didn't blame his staff, but himself for making an incorrect assumption that I had purchased the bike the previous week, not two days before the sale began). For Rob's willingness to 1) read this review; 2) consider his contribution to my issue, and 3) take the time to send me a letter of apology, I definitely feel better about my experience. We all have bad days, and maybe that's all this was. All my other experiences at Erik's have been very positive, so I am willing to believe this was indeed the case. Thanks Rob for making me feel much better about the money I have and will plan to continue spending at this store and other Erik's stores. read more

Just bought a couple bikes (1 for my girlfriend and my first fat bike) from them and the staff was amazing! There wasn't any pressure to buy from them, they were very helpful and they were able to answer my questions without making me feel like a dumbass (which some shops do).
