Maybe 2.5 stars, but I'm being generous today, since the Pilgrim's Progress sandwich (turkey, avocado, standard goo of mayo/mustard and sprouts on multigrain) was really fresh and yummy. I got a regular iced tea and added the free fresh lemon offered and was quite happy with my sandwich. Good deal! My b/f, though, made the huge mistake of ordering the Cross-Eyed Charlie (Meatloaf sandwich)! Like the gross picture on the table top brochure, this monstrosity also looked bad up front and close and ended up being inedible. Good thing he also got some chips and desserts to make up for it. Things I liked: -Clean space -Good service -Calorie counts on the menu (wow!) -Lots of options (veggie, vegan, gluten-free, etc.) Things I didn't like: -Foster Farms products - really? This is a mostly local chain and you can't be bothered with getting less processed meat? Are you implying that there are no local butchers? -the Cross-Eyed Charlie (Meatloaf sandwich)! Nothing against the staff or the restaurant (as an edifice), but can someone please tell me why ANYONE eats here? I have lived in Santa Cruz County for nine years and everytime I have eaten at any Erik's my sandwich is soggy or falls apart. They use the cheapest bread and the worst pitas -- and what the HELL is "goo"? Yes, they put something called "goo" on most of their sandwiches. Again, the staff is always cool and thorough, so I gave them an extra star for that, but, Erik, your sandwiches are lame. read more

I love Erik's at 41st and Capitola, their online ordering is easy and precise, the management responsive to customers needs and while all of the employees are nice I find Dawn to go out of her way at the register to make sure everything flows smoothly for everyone. The food is high quality delicious and fresh although a little pricy compared to subway or Togo's. I wish I could afford them more often. read more

I always enjoy eating at Eriks Deli. I think my favorite part of the different locations has to be the decorations. The one here in Capitola has photos of what old Capitola village looked like in the 1800s-Present. As for the food it always tastes fresh. The staff is helpful and timely. I am so happy that Erik's is offering Gluten-Free bread! I had an Erik Berger for the first time in six years! It was delicious!! Although I miss the old farm/ranch decor--I've been eating at their various locations pretty much since they opened in Scotts Valley, I was rather pleased at the historical pictures of Capitola that were present. This is for this location only, I usually love Erik's, but will never come back to this location! I ordered my food, and while I was waiting, I noticed the shift leader, Dawn, without gloves, making a salad and getting soup. It wasn't mine thank goodness, but she was rubbing her nose, then picking bell peppers from the main container and putting it on the salad with her bare hands. She was also sneezing into her elbow, but she would wipe that on her apron as well as her hands after she touched food. That is not safe or sanitary at all, so disgusting. Everybody else was wearing gloves that I could see that were handling food, just not her. And she was the one who took my order and handled my money. I love Erik's and I have been to many different locations. This one I would frequent the most on work days. As much as I love the food, one thing that I have to point out is I could never make special requests because they would ALWAYS go unnoticed. This is one place I could pick up food for my friend who has a gluten allergy. There were many times when I had to have them remake a sandwich because they ignored the fact that it needed to be on gluten free bread. Sometimes I would ask to not have onions or sprouts but it doesn't matter because they don't listen. I realized that I had to stop asking for special requests, but I think that they should really pay closer attention to the details. The service at this particular one is mediocre. I feel like they never have enough people working even though it's never particularly busy when i have been in there. read more

First timer! The staff could be more warm and welcoming providing their guest(s) with an overall better dining experience. I did not receive one smile from any of the staff during my dining experience. Restaurant was vastly clean with minimal debris. Silverware area needed replenished as they did not have any spoons for the soup. Food quality overall was good; however, I ordered the tuna no tomato and received tomato on my sandwich. Although my husbands soup was steaming hot mine was a bit more on just the warm side. Review updated: Management has excellent follow up regarding customer experience and/or concerns! Half of the ingredients where not in stock. Service was very friendly. However the bread was very old and stale. Turkey tasted old as well. Hopefully I don't get sick from it. The sand which I ordered also didn't half any mayo or ranch on it as advertised. Ended up spending 25$ on sandwiches that I could had made better at home. This place used to be good but it's definitely below average now. It's like they are going out of business. There are only 2 people working. There is usually 5+ people working. Ate THE WORST Reuben ever made the other day. The pastrami was not even split up, it was just laid in there like a cold cut-one nice large thick piece like spam. It crunched like a piece of sausage when I bit into it. AND not to mention the bread was incredibly soggy. I will not be eating a Reuben for quite some time now, and never going back to Eriks. This Erik's deli was actually quite impressive in regards to taking care of me. I have celiac disease and a dairy allergy so dining out can be quite difficult. We came right during dinner time one night and they were not crowded at all. The employee was really helpful and gave me the ingredient book to look at. I decided to get the soup and salad combo with chili and a side salad. He understood the procedures I needed taken to try to avoid cross contamination. The chili ended up being very good and the side salad was tasty as well. I really appreciated his attentiveness and willing to do whatever needed to be done. read more

The food was great and very consistent (like it should be at all the Erik's locations) BUT the service was terribly slow. We ordered two Abbott's Habits and it took over 15 minutes to get our order. There was an elderly gentleman with glasses making the sandwiches by himself, a female worker who was just taking the orders to people, and the cashier only got soup occasionally. The tickets were backed up to at least 5 orders and the cashier just kept ringing people up. It was disappointing that he didn't step in to help and just had the people in line wait a few moments more.. Make sure not to go here if you are in a hurry! read more

I ordered the Raging Bull off their "Served Hot" menu and the only thing that was hot was the bread. My friend ordered a regular turkey sandwich and requested it Hot and the only that was hot on that sandwich was the bread. Come on, Erik's Deli! When a sandwich is supposed to be hot that means heat the meat and the cheese separate from the produce, toast the bread, and add the produce last. It was so weird to bite into a toasty warm bun with super cold meat. It does get 3 stars since it was fresh and good portions, but come on! read more

My experience here was beyond horrible. First off the cashier, Elizabeth, was hostile and rude. Then the panini I ordered came out cold. I asked then to warm it fully and they gave it back completely mutilated. I'm never coming back here. Total waste of time and money. read more

The chicken pesto sandwich on gluten free bread is really really good - when the bread does not fall apart. I have had this sandwich 4 times and twice the bread was mushy and I could not pick up my sandwich. Their salads are only meh - mainly due to their selection of dressings. Why don't restaurants invest in some really good dressings if they are going to sell salad? read more

Erik's Deli Cafe, one of my favorite sandwich restaurants. I went today to the one on 41st for the first time. Service was great when I walked in and when I made my order. Place is clean, sandwich was great. I was happy until I asked one of the workers a question and he answered without paying much attention to me. Stayed at capitola best western and this deli so close that hubby walked . We called ahead and got two Fresh bay shrimp salads. Ready when he walked in. Yummy focaccia bread on side. Hubby said clean.. Only drawback is salads appear larger on website. Extra bonus points... They use recycled containers and utensils. Will try sammies next time. read more

I have been to this location numerous times, it is always really slow and disorganized. Most locations are very fast getting the food to you. This location, I always have to ask for something, the cup for my drink, etc. For to go, the food sits on the prep counter until it is moved to the to go counter, then it sits there until the cashier notices and had time to give to you. Every time I order a salad, the salad is prepared after sandwiches for others behind me are made. I complained once and they said it was their process. This location could benefit from the practices of the other locations, such as Campbell. They are amazingly fast! read more

I found Erik's Delicafe because I was in the area and it was time for lunch. The ordering process was straightforward. I ordered a salad and sandwich combo. The bread tasted homemade and the ingredients were fresh. The "assembly line" was organized, clean and appealing. I also appreciated their selection of Numi teas. The staff was very attentive and came by our table several times. I know I will return, if I find myself in the area. read more

Eriks is always one of my favorite go to lunch spots. The food is consistently excellent, fresh and I've never been disappointed. My uncle consistently won the clam chowder cookoff for many years and I can tell you that the clam chowder from Eric's deli is a strong. Competitor. One of the best bowls of clam chowder in the county. The service at the 41st Ave. location is probably the best I've ever received. The staff was friendly, quick and the restaurant is always spotless. In addition to all this great stuff they are often visited by groups of special needs adults. I have been there to see the experience a few times, and as the mother of a special needs child I was touched with the amount of kindness, patience and respect that the staff extends to these very sweet people. What happened today? Where's the consistency? When I received my $8.00 sandwich, it looked like a half order. And the pickle was as big as my pinkie finger, come on! This place is a great place to order out or eat in. The staff is very friendly their new manager is great as well. The staff always has a smile on their face and I enjoy that very much. I love there raging bull I prefer it on a french roll with no sprouts. I also don't like it heated but I do like the mat heated. I am very picky but the staff is willing to help with whatever i need help with. I love being able to see the history of Capitola with their pictures. read more
