I was with a few friends of mine and we wanted to have lunch, anything but another burger they said... so casually we all started blurting out suggestions and one of my friends that lived in the area said tacos. In a car full of 5 girls its weird when all 5 say yes to a suggestion so when we all agreed here we ended up! I had never been here it's a small spot inside of a shopping center with maybe 10 tables. But I wasn't complaining there were only two other tables so we basically had the place to ourselves. We ordered a chicken taco salad and a steak chimichanga. I'm glad that is was the one who ordered the chimichanga it was delicious! It was also HUGE I loved the retried beans in it. I also really liked the sour cream that they give you with it (it wasn't the watery kind)! The chips and guacamole were okay. I wasn't a big fan of the guacamole I prefer my guacamole a little bit chunkier but there was none left so i assume the other girls liked it. Overall it was a great experience the food came out fast and the food was good. I would recommend it for a quick lunch spot! read more

It was a Tuesday around 10 pm or so, taco Tuesday was almost over and I needed my taco fix, all the other places I wanted to go to were 5 mins away from closing, so here it came Yelp to the rescue!!! I found Ernesto's and went. It's located in a shopping plaza on Kendall Dr and I think 107th Ave. There were not that many patrons in there. The menu is kind of extensive but I opted for 2 tacos al pastor, they were juicy and tasted good, my only complaint is that they put a pile of raw onions on top of them, I had to picked them out because I simply dislike them (my boyfriend would've complained later), he chose two chicken tacos and at home he had to add some salsa from a jar, so I'm guessing the were lacking some flavor. We also had to have a Jarritos, we had the pineapple one, no complaints there. All in all, it was an OK experience. I might be back if I'm craving some tacos late at night and there's no place open, I just don't see myself going back for other reason. read more

So I have been walking passed this place for years without thinking twice about going in. Then my friend said, "hey let's check out that taco shop" and of course I turned to my fellow Yelpers for confirmation that this place wasn't on some dirty dining list... lol. Someone mentioned the taco Al Pastor and I tried it tonight... I don't know what they do to this taco to make it taste so good, I swear I could've eaten three or four of these without a second thought!!! mmmmmm just thinking about it makes me crave a midnight snack at ten o clock! We also tried the chicken and fish tacos, they were ok. I was a little saddened by the soggy breading on my fish but my dining buddy was happy with it. I have to mention the service almost brought this place down a star. The girl at the register was more into the show on tv than helping us. Then I almost walked out when we asked about two items and they thought they didn't have them. Thankfully all was stocked and ready to eat, Phew! You know I really normally would give this place a 3 star, but since they are open 24 hours and I am a night owl, I think it needs a 4th star. Basically its inexpensive fast mexican food thats like 3 steps up from taco bell, 1 step down from an average mexican sit down place (think don burrito or another restaurant). Anyway, their tortas are very good, you can get them with all sorts of meats (al pastor, carnitas, carne asada, etc. etc.) which is great. You also can't find tortas many places in miami (they are mexican sandwiches). I tend to judge mexican places on their rice and beans alot, and considering this is fast food, I am impressed with the beans/rice here. if you're in kendall, its late, or you want some burritos, check it out. I really appreciate 24-hour restaurants in places like Kendall, where once the clock strikes 10:30 PM on a weekday, you're left with very few options. For that, I smile upon Ernesto's Taco Shop. I don't eat authentic Mexican very often, so when I chose Ernesto's over the Taco Bell alternative I was surprised to see some interesting items such as tortas and tacos de lengua. They also had a couple of combo meals. I chose the Fiesta combo which came with a steak quesadilla, beans, flautas, chips, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Overall, the food was decent. The quesadilla was by far the star of the show and Taco Bell's quesadilla (which I'm a big fan of) is no competition to Ernesto's. However, the flautas/taquitos were seriously lacking. I took a bite of one and got a mouthful of hidden toothpick. But most of all, it was stiff and cold. The prices were good, about $8 for a combo platter. Quesadillas are about $5, burritos are $4. They also serve beer and have Jarritos. Overall, this is a great place for late night/early morning Mexican food. They have a series of breakfast dishes as well. The meat quality needs improving (i.e, the chicken in the flautas, and the pork in my boyfriend's taco), but I will very likely opt to eat at Ernesto's over Taco Bell if I'm in the area after-hours. read more

Ernesto's is a soft spot for me... it holds a dear place in my heart. I used to practically live here. This was home away from home. When nothing else is open, you can always count on Ernesto's. When you are in the mood for Mexican and something terribly fattening, Ernesto's will fill that void. When Taco Bell just doesn't cut it, Ernesto's is there smack dab in the middle of Kendall. When you are lonely and have no where else to go, the workers at Ernesto's are ready for you. If only we still ate meat.... because unfortunately their vegetarian options are lacking and the bean burritos are not that spectacular. But what is amazing for you carnivorous creatures is the CALIFORNIA FRIES. This was my go-to fat food staple: it is everything you'd think of on a fully loaded steak nachos plate, but instead on french fries - this is a must at Ernesto's, even if it may not be on the menu! I also love that they serve Jarrito's - see they are a true Mexican establishment! Jarrito's are like Jupina in a way but not exactly, with soda flavors like Pineapple, Tangerine, and Tamarind. The beef burritos are bigger than some of those miniature chihuahuas and the crunchy tacos are not those El Paso out-of-a-box kind but real tortillas hand dipped in splattering oil until perfection. But my favorite was always the Taquitos with their homemade Guacamole. In case you aren't in touch with Mexican American cuisine, these are rolled up shredded beefs logs and crispy with your choice of dipping sauce, pick the guacamole, it's pretty damn good. While on the negative side, it isn't the most hygenic and sanitary of places and I may have questioned this at times, BUT i think that because I loved going here so much and enjoyed the food so often I was willing to overlook some of these things. The Tacquitos were just the right amount of crunchy and the quesadillas were very yummy (though a but greasy for my taste). Their re fried beans leave much to be desired but their nachos with salsa are definitely delicious. They serve Horchata, a Mexican drink, which I was not expecting but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. Expect your food to take about 10-15 minutes. In the meanwhile, check out their 3 sauce bar- red, green and a combination of onions, jalapenos and carrot mix. Red sauce was too...well, it was ew. Green and the mix hit the spot though. This is probably one of the only places in Miami that I have been that actually makes real Mexican food. They have your basic burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, tostadas etc. Things that make it A-Ok - quick service - open 24 hours - they use the real kind of Mexican cheese! - it's cheap - you can get Mexican breakfast!! - when you get a side of something it's actually a decent amount (quac you get a little cup full instead of a tiny drop) - they have a variety of combo plates that will fill you up for about $7 -the food you order is consistently decent I just gave them 3 stars because they only offer green or red salsa that in my opinion is pretty bland. The quac could be kicked up a notch (more garlic maybe?) the texture is nice and smooth but the flavor is pretty bland as well. I'm sure I'll be back here again, so maybe I'll be able to upgrade them if I get a little more spice! read more

Hidden Mexican gem. I first heard about this place after seeing it on Snapchat, and have been wanting to check it out. The place is relatively small, but with sufficient seating space. You can tell it's authentic Mexican food just from the decoration and the staff. I'm not sure if it was the owner taking orders at the time I arrived, but he was very patient and eager to explain the different plates. I had the three amigos tacos, you can choose your own so I chose carnitas, al pastor, and steak. The tacos were delicious, and came served with chips. I also tried a steak quesadilla, amazing as well. The prices are acceptable and the portions are as well, and there's a huge selection of salsas you can choose from. We fell in love with Ernesto's when we moved to the area and spent hours, money and blood, sweat and tears into renovating our new yet very old old home. Actually, my husband and the undocumented workers did, I just delivered the food and supervised. This place never disappoints. Their guac is fresh and delicious, their quesadillas are always cheesy and melty, and their tacos flavorful and filling, and the service is prompt and friendly. We usually stick with our favorites. Hubby gets his 3 Amigos with chicken and I get the chicken quesadillas with a side of guac, which is always on the money and hits the spot. They offer a wide variety of Mexican goodies and treats, so I guess if you're Mexican you can appreciate this and indulge in Conchas, seasonings, and other colorful treats that are more than likely not regulated by the FDA. Ernesto's used to be open 24/7 except for Sundays, but we noticed they are now a 24/7 operation from Thursday to Sunday. This is a great spot to stop at on your way home from "da club" when your belly is grumbling and asking for nourishment after you pop bottles all night. I'm a customer at Ernesto's other location (200 Street and US1). However, this location just doesn't do it for me! I went once and never again- fajitas weren't served in the traditional skillet, which they're usually sizzling hot; nope not mine! My fajitas came on a basic plate and were cold! Mexican food on the late night tip that isn't Taco Bell?? COUNT ME IN! Ended up in Suburgatory (a.k.a. Kendall) around 2am after dropping a friend at home. A vicious hangover is threatening to kick in before I've even gone to bed!! That's a low blow! Guess that's what I get after drinking rum at the Elite Event, then back to my usual Scotch and I think I swiped a few sips from the Boo's IPA... Anyhoo, my tummy was yelling at me: FOOD PLEASE!! With a quick check on Yelp for 24 hour restaurants (I wasn't too hopeful since I knew I was officially in the boonies.) I came across this late night pit stop. Let's do it. I decided to keep it simple since I knew the night was far from over for us and I didn't want the "itis" to kick in. If you don't know what the itis is, you better ask somebody. I ordered a Breakfast Burrito with Carne Asada. Que Ricooooo!! Yummmy! This bad boy included egg & cheese with whatever other ingredients you choose. Since I went with the Carne Asada, the Burrito was uber simple. Just Meat, Egg & Cheese. That's what's up. What I really enjoyed about this burrito was that the egg was lightly scrambled. You can tell that they pan-scramble it. In other words, rather than scrambling the egg in a bowl and then cooking it, they drop the eggs on the skillet and scramble as it cooks. The end result is a scrambled egg that includes some egg whites and some yolky bits. It just tastes better. The eggs were lacking salt, I will admit. I know, I'm a salt-freak, but just a smidge would have improved the burrito to 5 star status, IMO. The hot sauce that I liberally added took care of that problem, however. They definitely don't skimp on the cheese as other Yelpers mentioned. And the Carne Asada steak was tasty & fresh even at this late hour. SERVICE: Quick & friendly. No complaint there. The place was completely deserted, though. This may have something to do with it. The attendant suggested a beer when the babes asked what he would recommend. He was a nice guy! The atmosphere was cool, but the food....not so much. I got 2 fish tacos; one soft shell and one hard. The food came out fairly quick and the prices were pretty reasonable. The restaurant was clean and the cashier was pleasant. My only issue is with the food. The fish for the tacos were breaded, but the breading had no flavor. I have a friend who has a theory; if a restaurant shows pictures of all of their food, no matter how good it looks, the food most likely sucks. Unfortunately, Ernesto's has this going on. As soon as you walk in, you're visually bitch-slapped by a wall of big, bright photos of every single one of Ernesto's enormous menu items. I mean, these images are so obnoxious it's difficult not to bow down and worship this illiterate-friendly-menu for its sheer tackiness. And the rest of the restaurant isn't much better. It's kind of filthy, telenovelas and Mexican variety shows are always on the TV, everything is served on Styrofoam plates, there's a roll of paper towels atop every table (pure sophistication), and their ladies' room (adorned with the same tag scrolled all over the place in bubbly-girl hand writing, something Kendall-chongaish like "Smiley 'Shroom Grl", but I have a feeling that's way off) makes me want to cringe. Yet, despite all this, I truly love this place AND it's broken my friend's theory - the food here is pretty addictive. And cheap. Not Rosa Mexicana yet not quite Taco Bell, although, the Bell and Ernesto's share a similar price range. Nothing's more than $10 (most stuff is under $6) and food comes out quick, but not so fast that you're left questioning whether or not it was prepared fresh or just reheated. My personal fave is the chicken fajitas - prepared simply with three tortillas, an inch-high mound of grilled chicken, green peppers, onions, and comes with a side of refried beans, yellow rice, and some green-guacamolish type sauce (I wouldn't call it guacamole, but I believe it derived from an avocado...perhaps). Nachos are also pretty good and ample (go with the steak) and if you like variety, the fiesta platter comes with quesadillas (go with chicken on this, the steak feels super greasy), refried beans with tortilla chips to dip, and crunchy, tasty little taquitos. They may have beer here, but it's pretty easy to sneak in a flask, and it's a great place to tame your drunk-munchies. It's open really late, but I don't think it's open 24 hours because there's been a time or two when I've strolled (or stumbled) in at 4 am and I was DENIED....but I'll let that slide because they also have this spicy homemade carrot, onion, and jalapeno salsa so good it hurts...in all the right ways. read more

I'm a Mexican and was looking for a good taco shop in town, based on the reviews I decided to try it. I was expecting a lot about the food in this restaurant, oh what a surprise! The flavor in the food was not good, my husband had a three amigo (chicken, ground beef and carne asada tacos) the chicken taco tasted weird, like a rubber band, the ground beef was horrendous, taco bell it's way better (I can't believe I am saying this), and the carne asada was the only he ate entirely (barely edible) . I order an al pastor taco and a carne asada torta (Mexican sandwich), the taco was the only one acceptable, tasted OK; but the torta it's a different history, I had to remove the carne asada from the torta and ate only the bread with the red salsa which was good by the way (a little spicy). The only downside is that if you go late night certain meats might not be available. Other than that it is one of my favorite late night spots in Kendall. Maybe he was having a bad day. We did receive our order of three tacos and nachos quickly. However there wasn't anything authentic or special about it. It really didn't taste that great. On top of that the place had a TV blaring which made it difficult to have a conversation. I guess it would be an OK place and I would visit again if the prices weren't so high. We ate here about 3 weeks ago and I'm still thinking of that delicious Chimichanga :) They were packed; every table was taken. They make it when you order so there's a little bit of a wait, but absolutely well worth it. They could have taken an extra half hour and it still would have been worth it. YUM So, I had the Chimichanga with Carnitas guacamole and sour cream and my sweetie had the Fiesta Plate with taquitos, refried beans, rice and some other goodies. I've been disappointed time and time again at certain Mexican chain restaurants where the Chimichanga isn't crispy anymore because they've made it ahead of time and serve it soggy. Well, at Ernesto's everything was delicious, fresh and homemade. Tiny complaint: The Guacamole and Sourcream are a little too watery. I don't know if that's because they purposefully thin it out (Can't blame them for trying to stretch out the product, especially with the current economic conditions) OR if it was watery because they served it right next to the piping hot food which made it melt some. Either way, no big deal. Still tasted fine. They have free refills on soda which is a plus in our books. And they have a little cart full of hard to find Mexican pastries and such. After much hunting for a decent place to get our Mexican fix we decided to try Ernesto's based on yelpie reviews & also because we were driving around silly for 20 min around Kendall with 4 people yelling out places.... Finally I yell out in desperation....anything but on the borders please!!!! So glad we stopped by, the place is small but they have about 4/5 small tables & a couple outside the cafe/shop. Don't expect a Restaurant...this is a cafe type place. Super casual. I ordered the combo with the cheese enchiladas... My hubby the same with chicken. The combo's basically add refried beans & Mexican yellow rice. My enchiladas were great, good seasoning on the sauce... Pretty big plate with also a bit of lettuce & tostada chips which were crispy & fresh. The rice was very good as this is always sucky at Mexican places. I specially loved that the people behind the counter/ cook were mexican. They have also for sale some mexican snacks and drinks. Most importantly open 24 hours therefore a great place to eat some late snacks after a night out. Will be back Ernesto's! read more

Nothing special here. I have had good Mexican tacos and this place is to Americanized. Their service is slow, but I must admit that they have a good taste. Just not Mexican enough for me. The place is very small, very limited seating, although you can always enjoy the fresh air outside. Will I visit here again... maybe if I am in the area. Once upon a time, I was an intrepid young exchange student. For six whole months I lived in Morocco--the Maghreb--practicing my Arabic and generally blowing all my student-loan money (ah, good times) on traveling every weekend and doing precisely enough homework to make B's. There was no taxi too sketchy, no bathroom too smelly and finally--no cafe too dirty to make me turn away if the food looked and smelled good enough. Maybe that was a long time ago or maybe I've grown up. Holy crap, this place is dirty! I was determined so I used my bare hand (NO napkins in sight) to wipe down the only table big enough for our party. Shriveled slices of iceberg lettuce and sour cream coated my hand--but I eagerly awaited my chicken enchilada. I won't even tell you it disappointed me, because it certainly didn't! I loved the sauce and the cheesy cheesy beans. The green hot sauce was perfect. Also, when I left I had to go all Sinead. My hair smelled exactly like burnt taco shells. Yikes! "But, they weren't fresh, that's not the best thing they offer, give them another chance," he pleaded. Yesterday I decided to take his word for it and we returned to Ernesto's. I shared the California fries (french fries topped with shredded cheese, diced tomatoes with a side of sour cream and guacamole) with the BF and didn't find those all too great either. The best part of my meal were the tortilla chips and tomatillo sauce that came with my burrito. I saw this place on US 1 for awhile and awlaways wanted to try it, well I finally did and WOW I was very surprised !!!!! Food was great, a little pricey but worth it. I usually get the 3 Amigos with Carne Asada and chicken. The Carne is off the HOOK ...... great flavor, I've also had the Burrito Mmmmmmm!!! the condiments are made fresh. From my experience I've tried both Ernesto's the one on US1 and one on 88st and 107 ave; the juices on 88 are watered down (very dissapointing) considering the owners are at that location !!!!!
