Visited on a Sunday evening for a friend's birthday dinner. We had reservations but may be as it was the first snow of the season, had almost the whole restaurant to ourselves. We were around 25 mins late but we had let them know and they accommodated it. On the main street rochester, we had a little trouble with the GPS. The restaurant sign is little small but it is next to paint creek tavern which is easier to spot. The ambience is lovely with various seating options- cozy sofa seats with creek view around fire ( only side tables, mostly for after dinner drinks) , normal seats still with a creek view and bar seating. The menu has some great options too along with vegetarian selection. We ordered Pikilia as appetizer which is an assortment of 3 dips with Pita and was awesome. Portion size was good for sharing among 3. For main course, we shared grouper filet and hot honey chicken and a side of orzo. The Grouper came with a side of couscous and every thing was delectable. I thoroughly enjoyed my Lemon drop martini. For dessert we had chocolate cake with raspberry which was little denser than I had anticipated but good overall. I love tbis place for its liveliness, location, outdoor sitting next to creek. I have walked in before but did not get fireplace sitting, usually they need reservation for fireplace sitting. This time I got sitting next to fireplace, although its not comfortable to place all your orders on that table but 100% cool place to sit at. I enjoyed live music this time, with decent lighting, server was prompt too. Being a vegetatian there are only few options. But food is good too, the appetizer I ordered had three different types of dip and I loved spicy feta one. I finally got a chance to check out this new establishment that moved into this space that's been home to numerous bar-restaurants going back almost 25 years. It's one of the choice locations in downtown Rochester where the Paint Creek runs literally feet from the outdoor patio area. The ambiance created by both the location and the remodeled interior makes this place both classy as comfortable. Our table for 16 was ready when we arrived. Our server, Zoey was pleasant and enjoyable to work with. As far as the food is concerned, I can only report that the Saganaki was delicious and prepared to perfection. I went with the mixed green salad protein bowl and added gyro meat. I thought the bowl was fresh and tasty but a little dry. Came here with another couple on a Friday night. We had a reservation and the place was jumpin. We were seated fairly quickly outside on the patio. Of course the view was lovely as it faces the trail and woods. There are also some super cute sitting areas with fire pits if you just wanted drinks and appetizers. I like the vibe of this place and while busy I didnt find the noise intolerable as some other reviewers noted, but we were also on the patio. We ordered the meat grape leaves and the dip trio as our apps. Both were outstanding and I would come back just for those. For drinks we had the Lemoncello Spritz and Old Fashioneds. The spritz was good but nothing special. My guests really liked the Old Fashioneds. For dinner I ordered the Lemon Chicken and my guest had the Gyro. I think they forgot the sauce on my chicken because it was not very lemony; just two pieces of seared chicken with no sauce. One of our friends ordered extra greens on her salad but they also forgot that. My guest had the gyro which was quite good and very large. He was quite pleased with his selection and that item was reasonably priced for its size. The server was a little delayed in coming around but did follow up with more pita chips for the dips and brought greens in a takeout box for her salad. My only complaint is that the pricing for several of the menu items seems a little too high. Especially for items often found on the menu at a coney island. If you are going to charge more, then you need to make it spectacular. I will definitely come back but more than likely just for apps and drinks. For what we spent, we could have had dinner upstairs at the Silver Spoon. read more

Ernies is a new addition to Rochester, and as it is named, on the creek. It is a bit hidden, the restaurant is on the lower level. The location is great, the patio overlooks the creek and woods. The interior is modern, though they went with the apparently current trend to have as many flat screen TVs as they could. The menu is upscale Greek, or American Greek as they have Saganaki. The prices on the food menu are reasonable, though their drink menu is following the trend of seeing how high they can price cocktails. They did offer a good variety of cocktails and a fair wine list. My friend and I both ordered the lamb, which comes with lemon potatoes, pita, and sauce. It was fantastic, the lamb was cooked perfectly, nice bit of char on the edges. The service was also good. The only issue we had, and it did impact the experience, was that it was so loud, as several others have mentioned. The acoustics here are terrible, it is hard to hear the person across from you. Which is really too bad, as it is otherwise a good new addition. read more

I'll start off by saying service was good and our waitress was very kind and attentive, now let's get into the food... 1 octopus tentacle for $26 is insane even in this economy... the grouper was under flavored and the couscous that came with it was oddly warm when it was supposed to be chilled, seems like it was left out before serving. Six of us met up for a meal before a play at Meadowbrook. It's almost hidden in its location, but all three cars parked in different lots and were able to find the entrance. We all enjoyed our entrees, two of us can recommend the Turkish pizzas, and the olive appetizer was delicious. The Greek Salad wasn't as expected, ( no greens), but the vegetables and peppers were enjoyed nonetheless. Never again. We had a reservation for our friend's birthday. Our reservation was for 8:30 and we didn't get seated until 9:15. The ceiling in the "party room" was leaking on us. When told to the hostess AND waitress, the manager never showed until we were leaving. Let me start off by saying the food WOULD have been good if everything came out when it should have. We ordered saganaki and it was supposed to come with pita.. we never got it until 15 min later when the cheese was already cold. We ordered drinks and that was another 30 min wait and everyone had theirs at a different time. Our main dishes took over an hour to show as well. When we asked for the manager to complain, he was dismissive and rude. He was uninterested in hearing us out. We will not be returning which is a shame because the location is beautiful. read more

With a party of five + a baby on a Thursday early evening without a reservation, we were still seated promptly but it was necessary to be seated at the bar as tables for our size group were unavailable. (That means be sure to make a reservation!) From there, we were provided with fantastic service, delicious food and drinks, and a relaxed ambiance with live music that was just the right volume - not too loud but still very present in the space. Starting with cocktails, we tried the Winter Margarita, a holiday special, made with cranberry and pomegranate but was not sweet at all. In fact, it was perfectly balanced. The Greek Goddess cocktail, a standard on their drink list, was also a well balanced margarita made with pomegranate. As we moved into the starters: Marinated olives and feta- exactly as you'd expect and delicious. Horiatiki salad- good sized portion and very flavorful, and yet not drowned in dressing Pikilia/Dips- really great with well seasoned roasted pita and lots of assorted vegetables for dipping. Entrees: I had the Salmon Santorini, which came highly recommended by our server/bartender. Others had the flame grilled lamb chops and the street gyro. The meats were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and full of flavor. I also really enjoyed the sides to the salmon, which were lemon seasoned orzo and a chopped vegetable medley. Everything was fantastic overall. While we skipped dessert, overall we really enjoyed our time at Ernie's. The outdoor seating area looked super cute and appeared to be heated as well (lots of people sitting outside for November!) The ambiance is bar-like: very loud and you have to yell to talk. The outside patio ambiance is really nice but you have to request to sit there ahead of time. The best appetizer was the vegetables with the three dips. The veggies were fresh, washed, and crunchy. The food was a bit of a let down. Even the chicken kabobs didn't actually seem flame grilled. We came here on a Friday night around 5:00. We had a reservation and had requested a table outside. When we were brought to our table it was outside but not by the creek and it was a high top table with bar stools that had no backs. As a pregnant woman I am unable to sit on those type of stools and nobody else was happy with the table. We requested a new table. The only one available was inside. There were 3 open tables on the patio and we asked about those, the hostess said they were reserved. When we called to make a reservation we were told you cannot reserve an outside table but it would just be a request. So we received conflicting information. We ordered the dip trio for an appetizer and it was good. I ordered the lemon chicken for dinner and husband ordered salmon. Both Mel's came with mixed vegetables which were so spicy that to me they were inedible. They were not listed as spicy on the menu. We asked the server if there were any other options and she said you could get potatoes or fries (which the chicken already comes with potatoes), but no other vegetable option. The chicken and potatoes were cooked great and had a lot of flavor. Husband really enjoyed his salmon. We ordered gelato for dessert and it was icy/freezer burnt. Not just a little, but large ice crystals. The server asked how it was and we told her it was icy. She did bring a new one that was better but still a bit icy. I'm guessing many people don't order it. Also note: there are no vegetarian entrees besides a salad. There are no vegan options unless you get a salad with no cheese. read more

Tucked awsy and tricky to find. If you have mobility issues, it is probably not the best spot as there are lots of stairs to enter the restaurant. Upbeat, lively, Friday evening. I've been here twice now with 2 diff groups of people and have had a great experience each time. The food is absolutely delicious and so are the drinks I had! Super fun seasonal drink options were available. The second time I went- we noticed my friend's chicken was undercooked. It happens and it wasn't a big deal- we just let our server know and she had it remade. Then, without asking, a manager came over and he was super apologetic and said he would let us have a dessert on the house. When we got the bill- not only was the dessert comped but so was her meal! They went above and beyond to make it right. I feel like places don't really do that much anymore so it was nice to feel appreciated. read more

You need to get your pricing in line with other establishments in the area! No wonder nobody was in there ! I don't know where you think you're located at? We had to knock on the door and wait 5 minutes for someone to answer it (because it's winter???) and there's a doorbell. What the f*** is with that!. Why don't you just you just close in the winter. That was really weird and the chairs are too low for the bar when you sit - too low. Have you sat in the chair? It's too low. What an amazing night! We have been awaiting the opening of this place and they did not disappoint! It can be a tad tricky to find. You need to park the back of the structure. When you walk up Silver Spoon is upstairs and Ernie's is downstairs. The view! Just walking in the view is gorgeous! There is a large patio outside with comfy chairs and a fire pit. When you walk in there is a huge bar and to the right there is a private (ish) room that will seat a larger party. We got there fairly early but it was packed by 6 pm. I highly recommend reservations! We scored seats at the bar. We started off with some cocktails. I tried it all last night. Lol! Their menu is pretty limited. We tried the feta fries and Saganaki. I must say that I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get an entree because as we watched food coming out it looked absolutely delicious. Next time we will get a burger or gyro.
