Wanted to check this out for a while. Awesome location with lots of docks for boat traffic and dock hands working to help us great. Menu is a bit small. Food was good but not great. Had the gyro and the portion was good but needed more sauce. My wife had chicken bacon sandwich and was also good portion but needed more sauce and had very few grilled onions. Nice setting and friendly, attentive staff. My Pickle burger was tasty, plenty large (see photo) and well done (apparently the only way available as I wasn't asked). A half dozen upgrades to kettle chips but forget the "Roasted Sea Salt" fries... they tasted no different from typical fries. Ernie's was nice but not amazing. When we first walked in, I wasn't sure if I was going to find a dive bar or something nicer. Turns out, it was something nicer. We seated ourselves in the dining room in one of the booths along the big bay windows overlooking the lake. It was overcast, so we couldn't sit outside, but the patio looked really nice. Based on recommendations here, we ordered a bowl of the lobster bisque. I am sorry to say we didn't like it very much. The bowl was huge and looked promising. It came with a stack of oyster crackers, which I appreciated. But the soup was very salty, and the seafood was mushy and flavorless. I am honestly not sure it was even lobster. Sorry, but I grew up on the East Coast, I have eaten a good amount of lobster. That was not good. For entree, I ordered the beef sandwich, basically a French Dip, but it wasn't called that on the menu. That was the best thing I had. The roll was nice and fresh and soft, the beef was tender and flavorful. I upgraded to onion rings, which were fine but nothing special. My husband got the walleye sandwich, which he also said was fine but not amazing. It was huge, I can tell you that, but he felt the fish was a little soggy and not very crisp on the outside. The side salad he ordered was wilted and mediocre. Add two beers and we came out at more than $60 for LUNCH. $70+ with the tip. A bit too pricey for what we received, I felt. But I will say the beer was super fresh and served in a frosty cold glass, which was appreciated. But beers were $6.50, which, like everything else, is a bit steep. read more

I am still absolutely blown away by how terrific this place was. What seems like a standard bar and grill tucked away in a neighborhood, is actually one of the best dining experiences my boyfriend and I have had. We did the duck wings, lobster bisque, spicy hog fries, the sunfish sliders and the walleye sandwich. The duck wings were tangy with a slightly crunchy outside and a soft meat on the inside. The lobster bisque was smooth and creamy. The spicy hog fries (my favorite) were spicy, cheesy and just all around incredible. Although, I'd ask for light on the jardiniere. The sunfish sliders were tasty and the right amount of filling. The walleye sandwich was probably the weakest thing in its lack of super strong flavor, but I'm also not a huge walleye person. However, the portion was large and it was cooked well. 100% recommend this place for anyone in the area! read more

We were boating on Gull lake today, stopped in here for a quick lunch. This place is outstanding. They have three people working the docks to tie up your boat. The workers were quick and attentive. We went inside to get some lunch, my boys had grilled cheese sandwiches that turned out great I had a buffalo chicken sandwich that was grilled with buffalo sauce on it. The chicken was good and all the food was great. If you're bored involved or simply in the Brainerd area I recommend stopping out at this place. read more

This place was pretty good. Didn't impress me, but it served as a good setting for a couple of gals up north to grab a hot dinner. I got the Basil Pesto Mac n' Cheese (really just a creamy pasta) with sun-dried tomatoes and chicken. Chicken was delicious, pasta sauce was ok - I asked for some cheese to sprinkle on top and I was surprised to hear they don't have any (no big deal though!). My friends seemed to like their meals too but didn't eat all of them. I ordered a mule and it tasted a bit off. I would want to try other restaurants in the area before going back, but it was good. We went at night so we couldn't see the lake - I bet this place in the summer would be great to dine at! read more

I had a work conference on Gull lake. We decided to go for dinner and we did a quick search and found Ernies. It was a little bit of a process to find Ernies from where we were staying. The staff was hilarious and friendly. They have burgers, stews and other pub/restaurant options. They menu isn't huge but its quality and a great price. The table ordered prime rib sandwich, California burger, stew, duck wings and a couple other options. The food was great. It came out fast and was awesome. The duck wings were a first for me and I found them way better than chicken wings. The location is pretty epic in the summer. It sits directly on the edge of the lake. They have a dock that you can pull your boat up to and they serve on the boat as well. A must go and check out when in the Gull Lake area. read more

It's just a small town bar with pull tabs and a few tables inside that happens to be on the lake. Not worth it.

We got delayed on our job so my teammate said let's check out this Ernie's. WOW! What a homer in of a call! The view alone is worth it. The waitress was super awesome and friendly, plus she made perfect recommendations. Which means the food was awesome! Even the kettle chips, but by then I was in heaven and this was just a work break! The Brisket Nachos in and of themselves could feed most small armies and the flavors were tossed together brilliantly. The prime rib sandwich my teammate ate tasted like a French Dip but with that soft succulence that comes with prime rib. I had the walleye sandwich and though I don't eat much bread, the roll it came on was terrific!! The homemade tartar sauce was as scrumptious as any I've tasted. I could eat walleye in my sleep, and sitting there with that view I was pretty sure I was. It was a captivating, dream like view of a beautiful fall day. The only way it could have been better is if I had my sweetheart with me. I guess that means I'll have to make a return trip sooner than later! read more

Disappointing and overpriced! We had a large group make the drive to Ernie's on Gull Lake. The server, Danielle, was excellent! She was attentive and always made sure our drinks were refilled and we had everything we needed. The food, however, was not good. 5 of the 7 of us ordered the pecan-crusted walleye. The crust was thick and hard, not the complement to the delicate walleye you would have expected. We all ended up peeling that coating off in big sheets. Yuck! We met here for a family retirement dinner. Eight of us came from Fargo, Chaska, Hibbing and Duluth. This turned out to be a perfect central point for all of us. We had a wonderful casual dinner in this casual cozy easy place. We had awesome walleye fingers to start followed by really tasty entrees. There weren't many people there so it was easy to visit. Today we rented a boat and driver with our adult children. The driver took us toErnies for a beer. My kids did not have id's with them (boat ride) and the server went berserk over how they couldn't order beer and they better not share ours!! Then we went to a table with our 2 beers. Suddenly a guy came to our table and started yelling at my kids again about they better not be sharing our beer! We were so disgusted with the beer police at this point everyone left to get back on the boat! I had ordered a hotdog 20 min earlier and went to see if it was ready at the window. The lady started yelling at me again , saying your order is not ready, you just ordered but I can give if to you raw if you want! I left without my food! This is exactly what I was looking for in a lake dining experience!! The food was fresh and delicious I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and the misses had fish and chips. The burger was spot on and the truffle mayo was a nice touch, I got the brussel sprouts instead of fries the bacon to sprout proportion was perfect no overpowering bacon. Our server Tedi was very attentive and helpful when asked about specials and menu items and always had a smile for us. The thing that will always bring us back is that it sits right on gull lake so the scenery is amazing and they have all sorts of activities to do before or after your meal such as volleyball a playground for kids or just skip rocks in the lake. read more

In their defense, Saturday evening at Gull Lake in season has to be a challenge for just about any kitchen. Still.... But the food and service was good. The appetizers are big portions. We had the shrimp, cheese curds and pretzels. We were hungry and waiting and still couldn't eat finish them (except the shrimp). And all were very good. Just keep in mind the portions when you're ordering your main dish. We had the walleye sandwich, BBQ burger and wings. Great experience at Ernie's over Labor Day weekend! We found Ernie's through Yelp, and for those of you from the Twin Cities, if you like Maynard's or Lord Fletchers, you'll love Ernie's on Gull Lake. When we arrived at 8:00 PM on Friday we overheard someone say that it was an hour wait for food. On a holiday weekend, we weren't shocked but thought our best bet would be to take seat at the bar to get drinks and dinner. Here's the skinny: - Drink selection for a chick and cider snob is AWESOME (Ace Pear, British Crispin in the can among others) - Great service, staff at the bar was amazing - Very quick, was under 15 minutes for our food, even though it was the Friday of Labor Day weekend - Walleye fingers were awesome, definitely get these - Lobster bisque was very good and had chunks of seafood - Walleye sandwich was alriht (skip it and get the fingers and add fried) - Bloody Mary was good (use Mr. Z's) - Greenie is not like Tony Jaro's, skip it After having our meal we walked outside. To our surprise there was live music by Seth Doud playing (and really good live music at that)! I called on Sunday and tried to make a reservation for Wednesday, FYI you must have 8+ people to do so. We only had 7 but the lady told me we should be just fine on a Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, when we got there we were 8th in line for outdoor seating. We sat inside, which had a lot of space. Sitting inside was fine because it was much quieter than outside. The menu is classic with unique takes. The lobster bisque was very good. Almost all of us got it. I did not get a side salad but it looked very nice! Our food did take a while but I was not shocked because it was a busy night. Overall, good experience. Our waitress was Danielle and she is great! There is a dock crew on duty and they do a good job helping you get tied/untied to the dock. read more
