This escape room was alright. The staff was nice and the place was clean. The puzzles were pretty good. Having been to another escape room business in Sacramento last month, however, this one seemed half baked. The other one had small waiting area that was very nicely themed with a vintagey, haunted feel. This one felt like walking into a kids bounce house with a large room full of people. We could also clearly hear people in the room next to us banging on the walls and yelling. Perhaps the biggest disappointment compared to two others that I've done, is that this was all in one room. No secret passages or hidden doors. I kept waiting to find a way to move a chest or something to reveal another space but it was just a series of padlocks and clues. I feel like the business would benefit from a larger space with more distance between occupied rooms as well as more elaborate layouts. read more

Great Room! This was my 5th escape/puzzle room, and definitely different than others I've done before! (Which is good in a market of overlapping themes and mechanics). My group did 'The Initiation' room: very thematic, creative, and a good room for teams looking to work cooperatively on puzzles. Not scary, but mysterious and a little bit eerie! This was a fun group event! We did the secret society room and was a mix of family with people we didn't know. It was not hard to work together to develop the clues and follow leads. Everyone sees something different in the room so it's best to work as a team. Our group came within minutes of beating the room, because at first we scattered and tried to make sense of everything at once. Here are my suggestions for success: - follow the clues as a group. We missed things early on by trying to divide and conquer. - if you think of something... Speak up! No points for having the answer later, it just takes up precious time. - attention to detail... When you find a clue, slow down, take a breath and analyze it with a group. If you speed through you'll miss something important. Can't wait to go again and Beat the Room next time.. read more

I've only done one experience at Beat the Room so far, so keep that in mind. The staff were very friendly, both the reservation and check-in process were very easy, and the production value of the room was excellent. The room my friends and I solved was incredibly detailed and incorporated really cool electronics. You could tell the owners/designers had put a lot of work into it. The prices were reasonable - about what you would expect to pay for a good escape room experience. My only minor suggestion would be a tad more storyline and natural progression through the puzzles in "Deep Space," but like I said - I've only been in that one room, and I'd like to do more! read more

We had an enjoyable Mother's Day experience at Beat The Room. This was our 4th trip and not our favorite. We did the Deep Space room and unfortunately we're paired with another family. We typically have a great family bonding time with our 5 but it was awkward at best with people we didn't know. The room had some glitches and confusing things like having to stand still for 15 seconds-before we could move forward. Didn't make sense to us. Would not recommend that room but the do recommend the business. read more

I have been here twice and I've enjoyed both experiences. One of the things I love the most about it is that it's one of the more affordable places in the area. This location is more much quiet because it's one of the few that is not in downtown Sacramento. I love that about it. My friend and I have been able to book a room about two hours before it was set to start and have it only be the two of us! The first one we did was the new space one, which had great theming. We made it out but just barely. We went back yesterday to do The Initiation and we made it out and onto the monthly leaderboard! We definitely plan to go back and do the rest of their rooms. The rooms have great theming and I appreciate that they refuse service to people who are clearly intoxicated. I have been to escape rooms where drunk people ruined the entire experience for us. Beat the Room has quickly become one of my favorite escape room companies. Eventually, I may need to check out the Vacaville location if they have some different rooms! read more

So good! We did the captain's quarters (beta). The theme is very immersive. It feels like you're at sea in a rough storm. The puzzles are never frustrating, but challenging enough to make you feel good once you've solved one. We did it with 9 people, which is usually way too many for my tastes, but there were enough concurrent puzzles and things to look at, that it was OK. Several puzzles worked well with two or three people working on them at once. That said, 9 is still probably too many. After we finished the room, our group felt like pros with amazing teamwork. We were, but also the room was designed to make us shine. read more

I'm pretty sure all the employees were on downers and Xanax. No emotion from anyone. The Sherlock room was super hard and the answers didn't line up. Before you even go into the room. They give you huge speech to not touch anything don't move anything don't do anything. But then they hide stuff behind couches and have you play with shit on the walls. You get way to scared to even touch anything and they go against there rules. This place needs some work. read more

This was our first adventure doing a "panic / escape room" problem solve, adventure. The worker that night seemed jaded on working this job, or maybe it was the young excitable (louder) girls. I get it, but you know ... it's your job. It's all a game, so play along. BUT props for the detailed layout of the game, managing expectations, and black and white criteria of allowable behaviors within the room. The event itself was awesome, and I like how it was all laid out, with clear explanations of risks of asking for clues, etc. The room may be much smaller than you anticipate, so there's a reason you don't want too large of a crowd. Plus what's really fun about this event is, that you will quickly figure out in your group, who's serious about winning and who will give up quickly (hilarious and the best part). I highly recomment doing this event. We ended up needing more than two hints, so we couldn't post our score on the board, but we didn't care and just wanted to see if we could win in the alloted hour time. We did the pirate room. Very fun! Not the most challenging escape room I've done but the props and storyline were great. The room was small. I prefer escape rooms that have multiple rooms or clues that allow you to divide and conquer if you have more than 3 people in your group, but the challenge and room definitely lived up to the expectations of the rest of our party and everyone had a blast wanting to return to try our skills in another room. A five star experience on Five Star Blvd. I recently came here with two friends to The Initiation Themed Room after having done a few escape rooms in the greater Sacramento and Bay area. The overall experience was very fun and climatic. Without giving anything away, the room does a very sufficient job in immersing you in the environment with its set and sound design. None of the puzzles felt unfair and there were a couple new creative elements I had never seen before which were cool to experience. Booked a room (initiation) for my daughters bday party and wasn't too impressed. It was the group rate so it wasn't cheap. There were a few items in the room that didn't work which lead to loss in time. The group ended up not completing the task due to the loss of time spent on trying to fix the broken items. One of the locks to a clue wasn't in the lock position so they were able to reveal that clue way ahead of schedule. It ended up being confusing to the group. Everyone in the group loved the idea of the event so we definitely will be doing it again - just not at this location. read more

My boyfriend was feeling bummed out yesterday when I got home from work so I wanted to take him out and do something that would lift his spirits. I had done one other escape room about a year ago in the LA area so I sort of knew what to expect, but it was his first time. We love conspiracy theories and illuminati and that sort of thing so we decided to do the Secret Society Room. There was no one else signed up for that room for the entire night (Wednesday nights must be their slow night) and we knew it would be pretty dang difficult to do just the two of us, but we went ahead and did it any way. The staff is very friendly and playful. The room was well designed, definitely had some surprises in there that made it super fun and engaging. We didn't finish it on time, but we were very close. Because no one else had booked the room after us, the staff let us have some extra time to finish the puzzle. I was so happy that we got to see the mystery through to the end and the experience had the effect I was hoping it would. It totally turned my boyfriend's crappy day around. We had such an amazing time, we talked about it the rest of the night! I would definitely recommend this, even if you can't find a big group to go with. read more
