Very nice escape rooms. They have dedicated parking spots so getting there is easy. Their game masters are friendly and easy going; no waivers to sign and you can keep your belongings with you. We did Sherlock's Study with a large group including three 7-year-olds and everybody had a great time. The room is very spacious and thematic. Two minor negatives: one of the locks did not work and one of the puzzles required guessing because it had no clear solution. The Bank Heist is good for a smaller group; we did not exactly step on each other's toes but that one is less roomy. The puzzles are more high-tech here which is nice, but the room is a bit too plain. Though Sherlock's Study has a higher success rate, personally I feel like both rooms have very similar difficulty level. They are also mostly non-linear giving people enough things to do. read more

We were so excited to have our first escape room adventure as a gift from those who have done them all over! The set up was great, clues were good, decor well done BUT 10 people?? Everyone I've spoken with said, "no wonder you couldn't think straight!" Too many people in on the solution. The family of 6 that joined we 4 were all over the place. 2 of the 10 just ended up watching quietly as there were way too many "cooks in the kitchen". I will never go into one of these with a limit of over 8. 6 will be preferable. read more

Had a really wonderful first time experience at this escape room. It was the five of us we were given a courtesy call reminder of the appt. that we booked online. We were informed that they had their own parking that they share with The Whaling Station so we didn't have a hard time finding a parking spot or pay for parking. Malachi I believe was the person that was helping us, he was very nice, helpful and has a fun personality. We booked for Sherlock homes and unfortunately we didn't solve the mystery and we are definitely coming back in the near future to solve the mystery and try the bank heist as well. read more

I had a blast here today with my friends! We played the Terminal, which was a fun and well-designed experience. Jesus was our gamemaster, and he was absolutely amazing! I have played a lot of escape games in my life but he is easily one of the most passionate and fun ones I've ever met. I went here in January with my brothers and SO's (5 total). We were looking for something fun to fill up an evening towards the end of our vacation :) First time for all of us doing an escape room, and I cannot recommend highly enough! We did the "Bank Heist" escape room and it was quite cool. Heidi, our attendant, was super awesome, guiding us through the clues, but letting us discover for ourselves. We escaped! Barrie (an owner maybe? I forget) kept our parents company while we finished up. We were impressed by the great service and well designed, fun puzzle. The icing on the cake, Barrie took a photo of our group at the end, BUT we forgot to get him to send it. After we left, we got in touch and he tracked down the photo and sent it. Go to this place. I was really skeptical of this activity before I signed up but after doing it, I cant recommend it enough! It was just myself and four children (three eleven year olds and one eight year old) and surprisingly enough we were able to finish it with three minutes to go! The kids had a blast! Very fun and exciting and if you are ever stumped you just ask for help through the video monitor and the staff will give you additional clues or tell you if you are on the right track. In my opinion, this is an absolute must do on Cannery Row with friends and family! Worth every penny! read more

I have always wanted to try an escape room and I when I found out we had one in Monterey... I jumped at the challenge. It was as hard as I expected. Teamwork was of essence! We had a large group which made communication with each other difficult, but we still managed to solve the room (although we were given a few hints.) 1st time for an escape room experience. The husband and wife owners were both present and are most inviting and gracious, you can tell they love the business. The Sherlock room was large enough for our group of 11. It was full of separate clues and leads so that we could all break into groups to find our way out and for that reason it was beneficial that the game does not require a sequential clue trail (I am only saying what they tell you in the pre-meeting). This experience gets you in touch with people in your group via problem solving and is very stimulating! I can see the application for businesses; you could build better employee teams with this experience by watching how people relate to each other. read more

This review is for the Bank Heist room. My husband and I love trying out new escape rooms on our travels. This room was a very basic "worksheet" style room with little to nothing in the way of original puzzles. Everything was store bought or unnecessarily tedious...the beginning marble maze toy was especially odd. That's not a spoiler...they just hand it to you and say, you have to solve this to get the key out to start the room. How is that related to a bank heist? We made it out but we weren't really pumped, we were just ready to head out of there. When we were asked "how was it??" We were polite, but honest...and the lady was like, well some people just like the fun, interactive, "overly" themed, rooms, not everyone has the patience for a paper and pencil style room." She was actually shaming us for not enjoying the room...To be fair, we haven't tried their other rooms, but left with a bummed out feeling from that lady after our so-so experience so we are choosing a different escape room when we will be back in Monterey in a few months. If you do decide to go, maybe skip this room? read more

Such a fun place! We did the masquerade room and solved it in about 45 mins. It was super fun. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the room, and also prompt with the hints if you asked for it. They have a nice waiting room with some puzzles to get your brain going, it was great! I came to Exodus without having made a reservation and with a lot of confusion on my part about how many people would be playing in my group. The gentleman that helped me was extremely patient and kind and did everything he could to make this the best experience possible. After helping organize my group, he ended up recommending the masquerade room. It was loads of fun and had something for everyone. We all enjoyed the many different puzzles and the hints we received when we got stuck. My group had a wide range of abilities, so the extra hints he provided for us really made this experience accessible to everyone in my group. We had a lot of fun and I'd definitely go back. I'd just make sure I made a reservation :) read more

Wonderful experience! My husband and I, myself a complete novice, went to the 831 escape room a block up and were paired up with another couple. We went to the time travel room. The other couple, while nice, had done over 75 escape rooms! Needless to say, their goal was to do it as quickly as possible and we ended up getting left out. I hardly had tome to enjoy the trill of finding a clue before they finished the room. We mentioned it to the gentleman at the front and before we could say another word he scheduled us for another room at the wave location with a pair of novices like ourselves. Wow, what a difference! We worked together on every clue and got more and more excited as a team the closer we got! We did the Sherlock room, and still solved it with 9 minutes to spare. This was such a great experience and I cannot recommend them enough. Fantastic fun! read more

The room was very well decorated to fit the theme, and the puzzles inside were diverse and challenging.
