While we waited, we chatted with the employee, who was super friendly and even shared some background about the company. We learned that "MPower" stands for "Mom Power" because it was created by a group of moms, which I thought was such a wonderful detail and not something I saw on the website. Our group of 5 did The Secret Experiment room and it was so much fun! We appreciated how encouraging the employees were when we asked for a little assistance. This is not just an all-year amusement park; this place is an institution that is permanently part of the Santa Cruz culture and history. Since I spent my entire childhood as a kid growing up in the Bay Area, I frequented this place on multiple occasions. Ever since its historic grand opening back in 1907, it is currently California's oldest surviving amusement park and has undergone numerous changes over the decades. Getting here is fairly simple as it runs parallel to Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) as well as Highway 9 and the more heavily traveled Highway 17. It is roughly 45 min to an hour south of San Jose and about an hour north of Monterey. Entrance into the boardwalk itself does not cost anything. However, parking rates range anywhere from $15 to $35 depending on the day of the week and time of year you plan on visiting. The boardwalk itself stretches roughly 1-mile long over 24 acres complete with 3 different rollercoasters (with the biggest being the Giant Dipper), a dedicated water ride, a merry-go-round, a ferris wheel, and a ton of rides for children younger than 12 years old. In addition to all the ride attractions, there are a ton of various food vendors. Everything ranging from hot dogs, burgers, seafood, Mexican food, and a ton of dessert stands. My lady and I decided on indulging in some smashburgers with fries & a drink which kept us full throughout the day (as we were here in between 11am-2:30pm on Saturday 9/5/2026). I think there's something special about enjoying comfort food and taking it down to the beach area while soaking up the sun. It absolutely brought back childhood memories for both of us. Some of the other major attractions include an arcade, bowling alley, and Cocoanut Grove which was a non-gambling casino back in the early 20th century. During the non-summer months, the boardwalk also hosts themed events for Halloween and Christmas. Additionally, they also show movies and even live music. Finally, they have a ton of vendors that sell merchandise (hats, t-shirts, magnets, bags, etc.) related to the boardwalk, Santa Cruz, and everything in between. And if you live close to here or plan on coming frequently, they sell season passes as well as wristbands for unlimited rides. My recommendation is when arriving here, dress accordingly. Santa Cruz has a climate where it could be 70°F, sunny and balmy in the middle of winter or 55°F, foggy and cold in the middle of summer. That's why bring a sweatshirt of flip-flops. And if you dare to go in the Pacific Ocean (which can be freezing), pack some swim attire. All in all, the "Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk" definitely has that nostalgic vibe to it; no matter what age you are. It may not be the prettiest place since it has shown its age, but it has a lot of charm. My rating, an above average four stars.

Parking at the park was free after 6pm and only took like 3 minutes to walk to the escape room. The GM was waiting to let us into the building and up the stairs. Long was our GM who explained the types of locks you might encounter, shouldn't take more than 2 fingers of touch to open, don't stand on furniture, etc. They had two bathrooms to use and also offered us hand sanitizer and gloves to use. Long did explain there may or may not be a live actor - part of the thrill factor in not knowing. We thought the room flowed well and we escaped with 6 mins left and only used one hint. I'm not a fan of spooky but this was fine since I had a friend with me. I actually thought this element was a nice touch to the whole pressure of escaping within the hour. The room wasn't lock heavy which is nice and had some unique puzzles. Atmosphere of the room added to the spookiness, especially the very dim lighting. One thing my friend and I did mention to the GM was their waiver form had the old name of the room still. Also unless we missed it but we felt like we didn't get an ending to the storyline. Hope they open another room so we can play that one too !

This was such a well designed game, and we enjoyed all the puzzles. This room definitely deserved its 9/10 ranking. We started in two separate rooms and then joined after we each exited and played the rest of the rooms together. The room, experience, and our host were great overall. The one complaint we had is that after the beginning two rooms, the rest of the escape were basically a series of mostly serialized games and puzzles. We wish there were more that could be done in parallel. At the end, they let us take a peek at different rooms to see if there was one we may want to do in the future.

Dad booked an experience for the family and we were pleasantly surprised with our entire experience! We were transported to what felt like a hot game show set. There were over 18 games to choose from and all of the ones we got were all perfect for all ages of our family. It felt like a mix of price is right, big brother competitions, and the most insane game shows, I grew up watching! By the end of our game show the whole family was engaged and smiling ear to ear! What a wholesome time. A totally different way to experience "family game night" Definitely worth a go with your family or friends... this is not just a once in a lifetime experience, we're already thinking about when we're going back and who we'd bring with us! But my main thing is I think they need to do a much better job if you do a kids vs parents game, or warn against it (they said it would be fine). I ended up fighting the other parents to throw the match! I would recommend doing two teams of the same level, because overall the experience was cool, but the kids vs parents things was good for the kids, not as much for the adults. And it was kinda pricy for the whole party.
