My husband found this spot randomly and we were very intrigued by the concept of DIY tteokbokki. As we walk in, it wasn't too busy and there were pots and pans already set up on each table. They use stainless steel for everything. You get one plate to pick all your toppings. There are different meats, veggies and types of tteokbokki to choose from. Then you go back with a little bowl to mix your tteokbokki sauce. It comes in powder form so you can actually mix and match different flavors. The waitress also stated if you make a weird flavor you don't enjoy, they will be happy to give you a new pot to try again. They also have sort of a buffet of side dishes. They had kimbap, japchae, different tempura and fried dumplings. They also had odeng guk (fish cake soup). The fish cake was soft, but the broth definitely lacked depth and flavor. They had tteokbokki with sweet potatoe inside (pink), ones with cheese inside (white) and just normal tteokbokki. I loved the cheese and sweet potatoe one. We also had napa cabbage and some beef in ours and it soaked up all the delicious sauce. We were definitely stuffed with carbs by the end of the meal. Went to this new ttubboki restaurant in Carrollton. I'm glad someone explained how everything worked because it can be a little overwhelming. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They had different kinds and sizes of ttuk if you have a preference. Lots of different rice cakes and sausage to add. They have ramen noodles and even wide glass noodles (we added both). They also had meats and seafood, but we opted not to try those this time around. Be careful about getting g too many things to add because you will realize it's way too much stuff to finish possibly. And because this is an all you can eat, they will charge you for excess waste. What we didn't know was at the end of the meal, they will make you a kimchi fried rice with the remaining sauce! We weren't told this when we sat down and were way too full to have her make us some. This place is a great spot with your friends and have a few bottles of soju while making your own personal ttubboki. The table cooker is really a unique range cooker I've never seen before. The pot is heated in the middle as induction cooking. All kinds of different spice levels and veggies and meat to add. The sides are fresh and hot. Service was great, the lady working helped to explain the process, even helped to make our sauce because we were unfamiliar, and she also checked in frequently with us! The lack of stars is due to the quality of the side items you could enjoy along of the tteokbokki ingredients. We went around 7pm and when we tried the sotteok, the fried vegetable, the kimbab, and kimmari from the side dish bar, they all tasted stale like they had been sitting out for a while. We did see them change it out once while we were there but couldn't tell how long the ones we ate had been sitting out.
