Escapology is a very excellent establishment with fun and challenging puzzles and great customer service. The puzzles aren't straight forward, but they aren't impossible. It is a nice experience for those who like to put their brain at work. If it does start to become hard the hints the workers give along the way are super helpful, they give you great tips without revealing the answer. In addition the workers there give a very helpful and informative debrief at the start. Lastly the music they were playing on aux was impeccable. My #ThankYouThursday goes to Escapology and, in particular, Augustus! We made a reservation for this location but traffic caused a delay and eventually a reschedule of our assigned time. Augustus was very patient with us as we navigated the situation. We rescheduled for another day. When we arrived at the location we couldn't find a parking spot at Belmont Park. Belmont Park is always pretty packed but this day it was extremely busy. This caused us to miss our slot again. Fortunately, we were able to reschedule for the Antidote escape room about an hour and a half later on the same day . We had a blast! After watching a quick video explaining how everything worked, our gamemaster Augustus led us into the escape room. The door was shut and the timer started. The props in the room were nicely done. Some of the clues were easy but many of the clues we overlooked or over thought. They were harder than I thought. We received two clues from the gamemaster but in the end we ran out of time. It's definitely a good team building exercise. It's a fun thing to experience with friends, family and even for a date. It can get pretty intense when working with someone and you think you've figured out the clue but turns out you were wrong. ‍ We had a great time here. The two of us came for Budapest Express. Our first impression was that the room was well-built with beautiful interior, so we really liked it, until the game master started to ruin our game. We asked her how to reset the directional lock, and instead of answering that, she told us that we needed to unlock the other box first before we could open the directional box. Who asked for that? Then, throughout the entire game, she kept throwing out hints we didn't ask for. We came here for the challenge, not to be fed answers. Some of the puzzles were really difficult, while others were too easy. Two times we were straight up given the codes to the puzzles right after we solved the previous puzzles. Like it was literally "the code to the glovebox was 489" (as an example). We were like what the hell. We "escaped" with 30 sec to spare, but seriously we felt like we escaped because they let us escape. Very disappointing experience. read more

We did Budapest Express as a family and had a blast! It was an immersive experience with fun props and puzzles. We did use the help button a couple times but honestly could've gotten through without it had we not been concerned about time. There were white boards to keep track of our findings. This place was pretty fun and it's a great location next to Belmont Park so you can explore that prior or after the escape room. We had Eric and Michaela who helped us and they were all super nice. I definitely recommend parking around the corner closer to The sushi place cannonball or the bar Draft-there's just more spots there compared to the tiny lot next to the coaster and the escape room. The rooms are actually very well decorated as as we also got to take a look at some of the other rooms briefly. Definitely recommend doing an escape room here - we did a medium level and it was definitely hard but so much fun. It's actually very reasonably priced compared to other rooms as well so have fun! I went to Escapology with a group of friends and it's so much fun!! We tried the Mansion Murder room, which is one of their harder rooms and we escaped but probably because we asked for like bunch of hits. You're given 60 min to escape and the puzzles, codes, and locks are varying difficulty levels. The staff is super friendly. The guy who checked us in just looks happy, he sets the tone for a good time. The waiting area is nice with leather couches and cool decor. It has AC which is so helpful because it's so hot outside. The woman who was our host was so nice and helped us when we got stuck, she was so encouraging too. It was definitely one of the harder but also funner escape rooms I've tried. read more

First time at this escape room for my friend's birthday and we had a blast! The four of us cost $35 each and we did the Antidote room. They said (after) that was their easiest room but honestly, we were stumped at times. The service from both employees were really nice. The Antidote room was fun and had a good story, although some parts of the game were not accurate like certain codes and colors, so we had to use process of elimination for those. The other escape rooms I've been to the employees tell you the story and the rules, but the tv did that for the most part. Other escape rooms have specific hints from the employees over the mic, but the hints here were generic and not always helpful. Also instead of locking your things in a locker, they just have you keep it in a bin in the escape room itself. No bathrooms in this building, you must go to the ones in Belmont Park, a few minutes walk. Traffic and parking may be difficult, which they warn you in the FAQ email, so prepare for that! They took a picture of us and gave us free bracelets for escaping! Overall pretty awesome read more

Recently played the Murder Mansion game here at the location inside Belmont Park and it was such a fun experience! Escapology really puts so much detail in their games to make them fun and challenging. The room is set up with a monitor that gives you clues, a white board to make notes on, and a walkie-talkie in case you need to contact your game host with questions. There are various puzzles and ciphers that give you more clues or keys to help you get to the next room of the game. We weren't able to complete this game in our 1 hour allotted time, but there were only 2 of us and it was their most difficult game at a 9/10 difficulty and neither of us had ever tried an escape room game before. Now that I know how things work, I want to go back and try again! This would definitely be a fun team building outing, date night, or maybe a teen birthday party idea. So much fun!! read more

In a city full of amazing escape room experiences, Escapology falls flat. I've played every room here and find the Budapest Express to be the only one worth playing. And even then, it's just a Long logic puzzle and you need to remember where you found everything / write everything down which is just kind of annoying. Escapology is a chain escape company with a chain feel. Many other rooms in the area are more worth your money and time. read more

I tend to do escape rooms alone and I'm trying to do one in every state. There are a few in the area where I'm staying but I was intrigued by the Budapest train room the most. I called and asked if it were possible to do solo and was told yes, but you have to buy at least two people. The website does a really bad job at advertising that it's $34/per person UNLESS it's two... Then it's $40. So I had to pay $80 to do this room solo. The first star is for the look. It definitely looked and felt like a train room and the visuals of the windows were nicely done. The second star is for Destiny my clue master who did a good job. But sadly that's really all the positives I have. The mystery is just a logic puzzle that they give you 90% of the info on the paper. There is a grand total of 6 locks. I finished it by myself, with one hint, in 45 minutes. I can't imagine having another person in there with me; I'd have gotten it in under 30 and felt like I wasted $80. They say the escape rate is 38% and the challenge rating is 8.5/10 but other than not fully grasping one of the puzzles (which can happen when you're solo) it was a very easy room. All in all, I'd recommend for a group of 2 or 3 see only and best for new folks to the hobby. I would highly discouraged other experts from this one; it's just not worth the high cost. read more

Haven't been to an escape room in a while. Wanted to take my family to do something fun. Remembered Belmont park has escapology on top of all the other fun attractions they have in the park. If you are looking for a fun challenge (maybe arguments) within your family (kinda funny), but time of teamwork an escape room is the right choice. Super fun bonding time. I chose Scooby Doo because it was the second easiest one aside from one I've done before. I will say we felt pretty special it was actually a challenge. After doing 50+ escape rooms throughout the U.S. and a few in Canada, the Budapest Express was one of the most disappointing! The game master was terrible, not friendly or helpful at all. On three different occasions, we had to ask for the clue about four times. I calculated that at least 5 minutes was wasted waiting for the clue repeatedly. There was a dry erase marker that didn't work so we had to ask for another one. This is not a good room to do with 7 or 8 people. We had done a previous escape at this location, had a wonderful time, and had no issues. Will not be returning! read more

This was a blast. I've been to Escapology once before to do the Budapest Express room and I remember that it was such a well made room. This time, I did the Lost City room, which is themed after a hidden temple. Not gonna lie, this room was difficult. The puzzles are pretty intricate and it takes focus to solve them. There are three sections to the rooms, and you'll sometimes have to use a clue from one section in another, often going back and forth. I feel that this adds an element of interconnectedness to everything and makes the puzzles that much more engaging. Even though it was difficult, our GM Nick gave amazing hints that didn't always give away the answer. A lot of the hints were nudges in the right direction which I can appreciate, since it makes it feel like you're still solving the puzzle yourself instead of being given the answer right away. If I were to do the Lost City again, I would definitely bring a third person. Since I only did it with myself and one other person, it was more challenging and I had to ask for more hints than I like to admit . I highly recommend! read more

Fabulous, detail oriented, super fun, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! I brought my husband here as a surprise for our first wedding anniversary. I called ahead to see if they could incorporate any special elements into the room. I'm so lucky that I got Shereen on the phone that day, because she helped me plan the most fun surprise!!! I thought it would be funny & cute to hide photos of our cat around the room, and Shereen not only rolled with it but went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make it extra special and fun!!! We kept uncovering more framed photos of our cat as we went through the clues. My husband was so shocked and happy, it was awesome. Our group of 5 played "Lost City" an escape room supposed to be a med-difficult room. Our gamemaster was Eric, who was very friendly, encouraging, and helpful. If you end up having him, you'll be in great hands! Anyway, our group completed the game and had 14 mins left on the clock. We did use two hints, and we're kicking ourselves for not being observant enough at the start of the game. We have played close to 50 escape rooms and as soon as we were given our 1st hint, we couldn't believe we needed it! We will say Escapeology is easily one of the best decorated and visually put together escape rooms in San Diego (there might be one other Escape Room which rivals it). This particular escape room was challenging, it rewarded good teamwork, and was well designed. It wasn't just an escape room in which you had to unlock a dozen locks to get out. It was well planned and thought out, from the video all the way to the last puzzle required to complete the game. Eric was great, he took 3 different group photos of us at different rooms within the game. We had an amazing time and highly recommend Escapeology, the actual "Lost City" game, as well as Eric since we feel he was one of the biggest reasons for our 5-star review.
