Custom Stone

We are the owners and designers of a nearly 4,000 square foot high-end home in Marin County for…read morewhich we recently completed new construction. We hired a general contractor and agreed to use all of their selected subcontractors except for a small subset we insisted on selecting ourselves, including Custom Stone. Custom Stone came highly recommended by multiple stone suppliers and other fabricators in the Bay Area. The scope of our stone installation was large and it was critically important that we select a fabricator who had experience with higher-end homes and highest-quality installations. Our scope included a master bathroom consisting of a double vanity, an 8' tall all-slab master shower and an undermounted roman master bathtub; a large kitchen with multiple stone surfaces including a 12' x 9' island; two guest bathrooms with marble slab vanities; a guest bathroom all-slab shower; an all-slab marble surround and hearth for a 42" fireplace; a custom designed and constructed semi-precious slab backlit bar; and an outdoor BBQ counter with Neolith. At the outset of the project, Custom Stone joined us during trips to various stone yards, advised us on the considerations of different materials, and helped us to obtain the most competitive pricing with their relationships. During the fabrication process, Custom Stone sent us multiple detailed design mock-ups and welcomed us to participate in the process. They recently invested in state-of-the-art fabrication equipment and technology that enables Contractors and Owners to see exactly what output they can expect, and to efficiently and flexibly provide input into the design and configuration decisions. For example, their new 3-D Laser measuring system and real-time digital vein-matching software allowed us to approve our slab layout before the fabrication started. Custom Stone's CNC waterjet cutting machine enabled exceptionally precise cuts on the material that we didn't find possible with other fabrication firms, allowing Custom Stone to produce the highest-quality end products for our project. Custom Stone's work is uncontestably one of the highlights of the new home and has significantly enhanced its aesthetic and value. We cannot speak highly enough of their work and the process of working with them. They worked and collaborated well with other trades/subcontractors, offered up creative solutions and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to quality. When we were selecting our stone subcontractor, we considered five (5) criteria in the following stack-ranked order: (1) precision in design and craftsmanship, and attention to detail; (2) knowledge of products/materials; (3) design skill in assembling pieces to create contiguous and less visible seams; (4) use of current technology and tools; and (5) reliable and on schedule. Custom Stone achieved the highest marks across all five criteria. We would certainly recommend and hire them again for whatever scope project we consider in the future.

Highly recommend working with Dimitar and Custom Stone. They were fantastic to work with on our…read moreKitchen/Bar/Bathroom remodel. They have really great attention to detail and excellent customer service. We are so happy with how it all turned out!

The 2024 remodel of my San Rafael home was the largest home construction project I have attempted,…read moreand this is my 4th house. I am a certified Project Manager and licensed Mechanical Engineer, so I know what good project execution looks like. MKC is the best residential contractor I have worked with in my 30 years of home ownership. MKC employs a process with heavy emphasis on planning the work up front followed by quality execution by the craftsmen. Scott (owner of MKC) honestly strives to land each project with the highest quality work done at a reasonable price. My project was mainly to remodel a kitchen and master bathroom. Additionally, we removed two walls (one load bearing), replaced 1/2 the house windows, addressed two different legacy structural issues, replaced fireplace, all interior doors, all baseboard and trim, all flooring and about a dozen other upgrades (add ceiling fans, add additional door, replace garage door header, toilet in 2nd bath, etc.). Basically, I received a new house. The work was completed in a little over 4 months as planned adding time for the new scope and structural issues. The cost was as expected. MKC costs were nearly exact to expected. Material costs were higher than planned due to our selection of materials vs assumed. The quality of the work was outstanding whether it was by MKC employees or subcontractors. I highly recommend the MKC team for a kitchen or major home remodel.

Roger, their contractor, was a delight to work with and persevered to solve a couple of glitches in order to have our new appliances fit and work properly. The countertop team was timely, courteous, professional & clean. We got 3 bids and Marin Kitchen was competitive and totally worth every penny. Highly recommend!

I cannot say enough nice things about the San Rafael crew from Green Bay! I had never remodeled…read moreanything and was daunted about the scope of work and all of minutiae entailed therein. Noy was my project manager and was a blessing. He held my hand thru the entire process and communicated everything clearly. Other contractors I consulted declined certain suggestions, but Noy made them happen. The work was first rate as were the materials. The crew was polite and respectful of my kids and my cats. I can't wait to have them do more!

Finished product is beautiful, but the process and project management is not as advertised…read more We met with 5 different contractors to get bids for our small bathroom remodel project. Green Bay Remodeling was the highest bid by 20-50%. We selected Green Bay because they pitched themselves as a turnkey solution and I would simply sit back and just make payments. In reality I needed to be involved constantly to keep this project on track. A few examples: - Sourcing: In the sales meeting, we were told that materials would be sourced by them from their "catalog" and shipped from "their warehouse". I liked the simplicity of that, but in reality, they order things from online vendors like Wayfair and Home Depot and shipped directly to my home. This turned my garage space into their warehouse for nearly 2 months. Also, it is just bad business to ship heavy, breakable things - for example, we had 2 toilets delivered to our home in giant packages - both of which were broken on arrival. (there's a hardware store less than a mile from my home that has toilets in stock) - Communication: We were promised daily updates, this did happen once the construction work started because they often wanted a payment, but we went for long times not hearing during planning process. - Timeline was set by PM as 4 weeks from sign date for permits and planning (closer to 8 weeks due to absences and avoidable omissions on permit application) and 4 weeks for construction (that was met with multiple issues and creative workarounds deployed). - Presence: We understood the PM would be present on the site and would be the main point of contact, but he was missing at key times - including during an inspection with the city permitting department - Attention to detail: Materials were sourced late or incorrectly (a 60 inch vanity ordered rather than 72inch) and broken materials were not identified immediately. We made the construction timeline but only with some creative solutions and lots of legwork. Overall, the guys at GBR are nice, charming people and the finished product looks good. But I give that credit to the amazing sub-contractor who completed the entire project. He covered for their issues and went out of his way to solve problems so that the finished product looked amazing and was finished on time. I would give this person a 5 star review, but I would not engage GBR in the future as this does not reflect value for money.
