Absolutely love Escogelato! First discovered this gem in my pre-yelp days so when I finally revisited again this weekend, it was time for a review! When I first came a few years ago, I got the tiramisu gelato and it had little bits of tiramisu cake inside! I fell in love. But I came back twice and both times, there was no tiramisu. I recently visited this past weekend around 3 in the afternoon and there was no line at all. It was great for us since we were a party of 7. The servers were very patient with all of us as we sampled different flavors and took a while ordering. You can get 2 flavors in the small size and up to 3 flavors in the large size. I got the hazelnut cookie and London fog in a size small. The hazelnut cookie tastes just like a Ferrero Rocher chocolate/nutella. It is dusted with cocoa powder on top and has small cookie bits inside. The London fog is an earl grey tea with milk flavor. I love tea ice creams/desserts so I thought it was amazing. I think the small size is good for 2 people - it is actually a lot of gelato (and I love gelato!) and got a little too sweet towards the end. Prices continue to consistently rise. Staff seems unaware. I go there once a month for my monthly treat. Prices were $3 for one scoop during covid. Then 3.25, then 3.50, 3.75. Yesterday price was $4.50 for a 'small' gelato. Stop raising your prices!!!! We notice! It is unnecessary. read more

It was raining the day I discovered this cute little cafe. I wanted something warm so I came in a tried their special of mushroom barley and lavender latte. Decor was simple. Inside had limited seating . The soup was perfect! Definitely hit the spot. They also serve gelato. Hence the name EscoGelato. I will be back to try. read more

The food here is delicious. I've tried a panini, salad and gelato and they were all very good and the portion sizes are perfect. My favorite gelato flavor was German chocolate. It was topped with gobs of caramel and pecans. read more

Date of visit: December 15, 2016 After our dinner at Swami's Café, my best friend and I wanted to get the disappointing memory of our meal out of our collective memories, so she suggested checking out EscoGelato nearby. Thank goodness she did! I've had gelato at several places in San Diego County (Gelato Paradiso and Bobboi), but this was our first time at EscoGelato... and man, did it not disappoint! I ordered a double scoop of Hazelnut Chip and Peanut Butter Banana - both were pretty smooth and creamy, and definitely hit the spot. The staffer at the counter was pretty friendly and sympathetic, especially once he heard about how disappointed we were at our earlier dinner. Although my personal favorite flavor - pistachio - wasn't available that night, I look forward to coming back here to try it out! read more

The gelato was very good. Very flavorful and creamy. We ordered the apricot goat cheese and graveyard flavors. These little cups, small, had so much gelato! Loved the place as I walked in. It's a quaint little place but it felt so welcoming and homely. We went in at a good time - the line wasn't too bad and there was a good amount of seating available! We tasted a few flavors before deciding on the Black Forest gelato - but each one we tasted was creamy and flavorful, and rich yet light at the same time. Came after a blood draw. Just a nice quick walk across the street. I got the mango sorbet and strawberry lemonade. The sorbet was delicious, and the lemonade was good too. The girls behind the counter seemed to enjoy their job, which is a rare find. Chatting away, making some drinks, and pouring beer, was a charming atmosphere to be in. I came here around 11:15, and as I leave now, the outdoor patio. It is packed. My mango sorbet surprised me with two or three chunks in there. Not overbearing with sweetness but just the right amount of touch. Lemonade was perfect as well, not too sour or too sweet, just the amount to cure an 80-degree weather day. read more

I came by tonight and the service was good :) ORDER: Iced Chai Latte, Caprese Sandwich and Tomato Basil Soup, and extra small gelato: pistachio & brown butter pecan I felt the iced chai wasn't sweet enough for me it could have been better. The Caprese was fine, and the Tomato Basil Soup was really tasty. I enjoyed the Gelato half pistachio and half brown butter pecan (the pecans were BOMB) it was full of good flavor, and creamy, sweet, and perfect to beat the summer heat. A short and sweet review. This place is awesome! Park along the street, and pick up some good gelato! Or if you take a stroll and decide to stay. Chill out on the outside patio, it's nice and shaded. The inside tables also appear clean and relaxing. Fancy and unique looking little cafe. As for the gelato. I sampled a bunch, but ended up with the German chocolate cake. Why? Because I've had all the regular flavors already like strawberry, chocolate chip, peanut butter, and pistachio before. All excellent choices, but I was in a coconut mood, and the German Chocolate Cake was the perfect choice! Real coconut shaving...mmm! I suggest giving the Mayan Chocolate a try as well. It's different. It's got a nice lil' chili kick to it at the end. Overall, I dig this place and love the gelato! Service was cool as well! Someday I'll give their paninis and salads a try. Such a great fun spot in Escondido! I love gelato...way more than ice cream. Things I love about this place: Friendly workers Cool vibe Kid friendly (they had a highchair!) Indoor and outdoor seating Cool music Nice variety of flavors Support local businesses Things I didn't like: Nothing! We ordered two kids size cups and one small. My husband ordered the hazelnut flavor with almond fig, I ordered almond fig, and one of the kiddos ordered the chocolate brownie. A must try in Escondido -- If you find yourself in downtown Escondido make sure you check out this little gelatoria. I've always enjoyed the gelato, panini, and baked goods. They source fruits locally, and on occasion ask for product from facebook friends. The service is ALWAYS friendly no matter how crowded and chaotic things get. It's going to be tough to find better gelato in SD. My Favorites - Passion Fruit - Mayan Chocolate - Tiramisu - Pistachio Tips - Small is a pretty good size. 3.50 and you can try two flavors.. - Lines are very long during downtown events (Cruising Grand, Bi-annual Street Fair) but they do move. Dammm, I think I have found my favorite gelato place! Good selection of flavors, amazing gelato, good prices, cute place, great service... what can stop me from coming!? Nothing! They have a wide selection of regular and unusual flavors, for example the classic chocolate, but they have a spicy chocolate too! Other flavors they have include almond fig, pistachio, hazelnut, espresso, blueberry cheesecake, passion fruit, cinnamon maple, etc. My favorite was the hazelnut and the cinnamon maple. Cinnamon maple tasted very Christmas-y and was a bit on the sweeter side as compared to the other gelati I tried, but it's so good! Their hazelnut was bursting with hazelnut flavor as opposed to the so-called overly sweetened hazelnut flavors I tried before at other gelato shops. Wow, their spicy chocolate, my goodness, was so rich and I liked how the spiciness didn't kick in until after you tasted the chocolate. The espresso was full of coffee flavor, just like how their passion fruit tasted like real passion fruit without any artificial taste. All the flavors I tried were dense and creamy without any weird taste or colors. They tasted so natural and rich with the perfect amount of sweetness! Honestly, their gelati tasted much better than those in a few shops I tried down in Little Italy - I ain't kidding. Plus they don't charge you ridiculous prices because you aren't in Little Italy. Did I mention their portion size is decent too? I ordered the medium but it's too much for me. (I have saved the rest in my freezer for tomorrow hahaha!) I love the flavors here I just wish they had hazelnut more often:) their espresso flavor is also amazing. First visit and the reviews are all true. IT IS YUMMY!!! I was just in and out. I got a medium and had half hazelnut and half sour cream & Brown Sugar. Wow, both were delish and went well together. Just over $4.50 for the medium size. The women working the counter were friendly and professional and the location was clean. I'll definitely be giving them another try!!! UPDATE 7/27/12: Another Quick stop today and grabbed a small Honey Almond gelato. $3.77 and DE-LISH-OUS!!! YUM! UPDATE 8/11/12: Finally dragged the husband here. He tried the strawberry cheesecake and the stratachella (?) aka chocolate chip. He thought the strawberry cheesecake was outstanding. I tasted it and thought it was good, but not a big strawberry flavor fan. I had the chocolate and it was very good for chocolate. I'm not into chocolate much but this one, while rich, is nice and bitter. YUM. Had it with more of the sourcream brown sugar, which I really like, but she gave me waaaay more chocolate and I would have preferred the other way around or half and half. I also tasted the sweet corn and YUM-O! I want to go back and have that one, but what will I pair it with? I'll keep you posted. read more

This is the real deal folks! I've eaten gelato in Italy, Israel, Albania, Turkey, and this is legit Italian gelato! The flavors are well pronounced as they should be! The texture is perfectly smooth. Offerings include staple flavors and seasonal ones. The prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Some seating inside the store and tables and chairs outside on a deck for lingering and gathering (it's one of my fav places for meet-ups). And may I suggest the affogato if you've never had one!! read more

Quaint, cozy, friendly, and packed. I must have been the last person in Escondido to find out about this place. Great Latte's, Gelato, sandwiches, soup, and salad... What else can you ask for except more space maybe. I like this little spot, I'll be back and I'll probably see you there with everyone else :) So many options Gelato wise. In the food department not quite as many. The Deedo is a really good sandwich they make. They make 3 different sandwiches, deedo being one. They also have a few soup and salad options. Super tasty! We came here with our group and got gelato after supper. It was SO GOOD! Some got it in cones, some got it in cups. Cute, quaint, boutique-like and off the beaten path kinda place. It does get busy and there is usually a line so be patient. As I looked around it also looked like they served some beer, wine, breakfast items, and some lunch items. Not really any seating inside. Gelato - Awesome Food - Great Kid friendly - Yes Go to items: Deedo sandwich, tomato bisque soup, tiramisu gelato Been coming in here since they opened and it's delicious. They have some unique flavors of gelato like goat cheese and apricot, and lavender and honey. The gelato is awesome but has more of an ice cream consistency than other gelato I have had. Not a bad thing but just lighter and melts quickly which is not a problem since I eat it up pretty quickly. I would say the small cup is a good size for most people since they give you a generous heaping scoop. They also have a kids size which is great if you have kids. They also allow you to pick two flavors on any size cup. Also had the Deedo Panini and Tomato Bisque soup multiple times and both are great and I believe all of their ingredients are locally sourced. Definitely recommend coming here for a sando and soup followed by a gelato! read more

Need a pick me up on a hot Summer day. Thank you to the other Yelpers for their recommendations. Since tasting is suspended, it was really hard to decide on 1-3 flavors only from their wide array of unique flavors. A small cup holds up to 2 flavors; large, 3. I settled for the Fig Mascarpone & Apricot Goat Cheese & hoped for the best. I love cheese & ice cream so it was perfect. I loved it! My family enjoyed their Cereal Milk, Tiramisu, Mayan Chocolate, etc. The place is quaint & artsy. Service is casual & friendly. If I'm back in the area, I'll definitely be back. read more
