It just so happened that their location was right around the corner from our dinner spot, Cuscatlan Comida Salvadoreña. Very affordable and very good gelato here, flavors seem to be rotating because every time I do come here they're different. Last time I came here I got a large sized gelato in a cup of half Mexican chocolate & half blueberry goat cheese. They were fucking delectable, although I wouldn't recommend the latter if you're not a fan of goat cheese, but I am so it worked out great lol. Wow! This place is legit! Managed to come here with some friends for lunch and stayed a few hours. We enjoyed their delicious sandwiches and managed to squeeze in some gelato too! My only complaint is I should have worn stretchy pants. It's not too far from the corner. While we sat outside, we managed to entice a few new customers for them. Since I sold the idea to random strangers, I made sure to check and see what they thought. Hey, everything is terrific! They were just as happy as us. We came to Escondido city for Yelp get-together for lunch. After lunch our friends suggested this cute little place for desserts. As soon as I entered the coffee smelled awesome but the looks of the Gelatos were even better. They had lot of "different" flavors here, most of them I am hearing first time. Me and my son took two flavors each and tasted few other samples, they are very good at giving the samples. We treated ourselves with yumm Gelato treats. My son ordered Vanilla Bean and Blueberry, it was great. And I got Goat Cheese Apricot and Almond fig. The coffee bean is from Zumbar, my favorite. This place is always crowded, so do not expect to have a seat and enjoy the treat. Love this little place and will go again. read more

Best gelato in San Diego! The owner spent time in Europe knowing the great taste of gelato and has perfected it herself. This is my go to for sorbets, vegan ice cream and vegan cookies. No one ever wants to try a vegan cookie or vegan ice cream but when you taste it... it's amazing and you can't tell the difference . I never know what my vegan ice cream will be since she makes different flavors daily ( or weekly not sure). Don't let the vegan detour you. This place is worth the hype! When my friend said this was a great place for lunch, I was skeptical. I didn't think a gelato shop could have great food as well! I had been here once before and really appreciated that there were some dairy-free options. I had the mango sorbet that time and it was delicious. This time, for lunch, I got the Mediterranean salad. OMG! This is one of the best salads I've tasted! It had yummy olives, fresh tomatoes, super fresh and tasty greens, chickpeas, yummy chunks of feta, crunchy cucumbers and a delightful vinaigrette. The greens were the best I think I've had in a salad--so fresh and full of flavor. They really popped with flavor. I'd get it again just for those greens! The salad came with yummy sourdough toast as well! I didn't see any butter but it tasted like there was maybe a little flavorful oil. So good too! Lastly, I got a small gelato of vegan peanut butter and cranberry sorbet. Both were fantastic flavors! The peanut butter has a nice, rich peanut butter flavor I really appreciated and the cranberry sorbet had a little tartness that made it special. I return their almost cold coffee after two swallows and left. These two young ladies should have offered to make up of pour over coffee since I told them that is why I came there. On the positive side I am going to assume the food is still excellent. Found this place in Escondido while driving back home from San Diego. It's a cute little spot in a hipster area downtown. They use all local ingredients and they serve some treats and coffee as well. We came on a Sunday afternoon so parking or wait time was not really an issue. They make homemade bread, so we took two home and glad we did! They were delicious. We ordered tiramisu and raspberry crumble gelato. Very flavorful and great texture. I'm giving it four instead of five stars because they didn't have my favorite flavor--pistachio. If the world was a video game and each city had hidden gems and jewels that gave you points, EscoGelato would be one of those hidden places. Tucked into one of the streets connecting to the famous Grand Avenue, EscoGelato is more than meets the eye. There's lots of prejudice in this world, and although not nearly on the same scale, this is one of those cases. Most people assume EscoGelato only sells and serves gelato. Well, we were all wrong. I will pleasantly agree that I was one of those people. I incorrectly limited EscoGelato to a frozen dessert location when I never even bothered to learn more about the business. How ignorant of me! EscoGelato serves some of the best lemonade and paninis in town! On this visit, I tried the Grilled Cheese Panini with Pesto (provolone, mozzarella, and pesto on rosemary olive oil bread). From the very first bite you take, your brain connects all the senses: your eyes watching as the cheese melts off the bread's love handles, you hold in with both hands to ensure security, warmth transmitting to your fingers, as you bring the panini towards your mouth and you begin to take that first bite, you can't help but intake the overwhelming scent of rosemary on the olive oil bread. The finale is that crunch you hear from the fresh bread and the combinations of the tastes of pesto and the goodness of the cheese on your tongue. I tried my sister's Deedo (Chicken, provolone, pesto, roasted red peppers, avocado, and mayo on rosemary olive oil bread) order and that one bite created a mental calendar date to come back to EscoGelato's! When I first arrived, the place was booked (+ busy)! Luckily, I only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table to free up. Parking also wasn't a hassle, there's more than enough free parking options right outside the restaurant. My favorite part about the place, though, isn't the free parking, or the bomb ass paninis, it's the fact that the business encapsulates the word "LOCAL" in every way: from the customers, from the employees, to the ingredients in their foods. This is what Yelp is all about, "supporting local businesses". In the matter of 20 minutes that I was waiting for my party, I witnessed a range of people paying EscoGelato a visit: a group in their 60s laughing over a classic cup of joe, a mother with her two boys sipping on some soup, a pair of women (most likely long-term friends) sharing a lingering embrace. Nice cafe...there are about 5 or 6 outdoor tables available right now. They limit the number of people inside at one time and the employees are wearing masks. The iced lavender latte was good, though I couldn't really taste the lavender much--perhaps it's because I ordered it 1/2 sweetened? I'm not sure. The breakfast panini (ham, cheese, and egg) wasn't bad either. Nothing special, but simple and decent. The gelato is their specialty and it's made in-house. I ordered the fig sorbet and it was very good and not too sweet. I could definitely taste the fig. As with most places in this area of Escondido, it's either street parking or public parking lots that seem plentiful. There's one right across the street from the cafe. We love this place so much and come back all the time. Gelato is delicious, an excellent variety of flavors available everytime. Staff is friendly in person and over the phone. I'd normally expect parking to be difficult but always end up snagging a space right outside. My favorite flavor has got to be blueberry cheesecake. Tip, if you can't decide between two flavors, you can get half-half at no extra charge. We just recently moved to Escondido and I am loving exploring the area for gems like this. The place is just so cute! The gelato flavors are different, but they still have some traditional ones if you prefer those. They're very friendly and though there has been a line every time I've one, I haven't minded because of the customer service and the gelato itself, of course! The parking is street parking and it can be harder to find parking if it's busy. The store is small but they have a patio seating area which is nice but it can also get busy on the patio as well. I had the mixed berry sorbet and most sorbets I have gotten at gelato stores tasted more icy but this was super creamy and had a lot of flavor. Every bite was amazing. National Ice Cream Day and we decided to take the family to EscoGelato since we were in the area. One of the many delightful little business found in the heart of Escondido. Google maps has a hard time locating it.. but you'll find a general public parking lot available amidst a smattering of business.. park there.. and then you'll walk to the venue. It's a small little brick and mortar establishment that has very limited (but cute!) seating.. and tasty treats inside. The flavors are absolutely delightful. We got a bunch but the apricot goat cheese was surprisingly my favorite! Definitely ask to try the flavors and next time I need to remember to purchase a pack and go container to enjoy at home. We took the kiddos and enjoyed a little treat on the tables outside. Highly recommend coming this way with the family. A friend sent me a social media post stating they had vegan pumpkin gelato. Since I was wearing my "you had me at pumpkin spice" t-shirt, it seemed meant to be. We used to go here all the time before becoming vegan almost 5 years ago. We were addicted to their affogatto. After going vegan, I called to check on non-sorbet vegan options and couldn't get a straight answer about if they always had a vegan gelato option. Figuring I'd get a better chance at a knowledgeable response from maybe a manager or owner if I emailed, I emailed them and never heard back. It's not worth going there and "taking a chance" to hope that by chance there's something I can eat other than sorbet. I also am not a fan of calling places before you go to check on things, just not worth the effort and advance planning. So, I gave up and never visited again until today. I was delighted to know they had a vegan option the day we went. I asked if they had any other vegan gelato options, and was told they had two sorbets. Telling a vegan that the option at a gelato place is sorbet is like telling a vegan at any other restaurant that the option is salad, it typically will not result in a return visit. Sorbet by definition is vegan, but at least there was one vegan gelato. We got a complimentary taste before buying and I found it to be very sweet, so we ordered just one. By the time we were done splitting it, I was glad we only got one. The overriding taste profile was "sweet" with a hint of pumpkin. The sugar content count have probably been cut in half. Full disclosure: I'm not much of a sugary person, but when I do splurge I'm more excited by flavors than I am by sugary sweetness. If I were in Escondido with non vegan friends and they wanted to stop in, I'd go with them, but I've found another gelato place with multiple vegan options near my work that better matches my gelato cravings.
