I've been coming here for so many years I forgot when I started. Pre-2015, probably before that. I can't believe I never reviewed the place. I love this business. Everything's neat, clean and organized. They always have what I need and sometimes introduce me to something newer or better. Their prices can't be beat, easily the best price on Star Milling that I've seen anywhere in the county. My cats have also gotten a better grade of food since I started buying for them here as well. I've been coming here for just over ten years. I can't recommend this place enough. I normally come for waterfowl feed but have been frequently surprised to find things I normally get elsewhere ( cat food ) here, but at a better price. Mostly they stock things you simply can't get in a chain pet food store. This place is clean and organized, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and I've never had a bad experience here. I miss the cats that used to stand guard but times change. I try to come here for as much as I can because I'm always concerned about our local businesses surviving. If you're in Escondido and looking for pet food, consider starting here just to get familiar with the place. The big chain places will be around forever, and so will the lesser grade foods they sell. We needed some hay for a yard project.... This place carries a lot of pet food/animal feed, and animal healthcare items. They also have bedding materials and some pre-made housing for chickens and rodents. They also have animals for sale... I'm sure it varies from time to time, but on this day they had a few breeds of chicks and some rabbits. To buy bales of hay, you need to purchase first and then an employee will have you pull around the side of the store to load you up. Nice store. Even nicer employees. read more

Definitely a great place to go to for your animal needs. They have a great selection of food for your animals and even have live chickens for sale here. They had a sweet and friendly cat and puppy to greet me as well, which was nice for sure. They are reasonably priced but don't seem to have many sales there. Their hours also make it hard to get to as they are closed on Sunday and close early during the week so I am unable to go after work. They are open on Saturday though. Lack of transparency and hidden fees ruined that place for me Purchased few items this week, normally I don't take a receipt but this time I did . Later in a day I found that receipt and I noticed $2 fee for convenience fee. Was never notified about additional $ to use CC. Would be nice to know that since I had cash and would pay cash. Called the store to ask about it - a male picked up the phone , did not introduced himself . When asked about the charge I was told "we were doing this for the last few months " ... Escondido Feed is a staple here in the farming community of Escondido. We get our scratch feed for our chickens here and they always have an ample supply. There selection is great and it's fun going over to the Chicken Coops where they have all the different breeds of hens and roosters. Check out the hairy legs on the rooster in the first coop. The workers are always friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about their products and livestock in general. Sign-up on their email and get valuable coupons every week or month. read more

Best store for our English bull terrier's special diet needs, has any and everything for our flock of hens and I have made eye on their amazing beer keeper collection. Familiar faces of Staff and they are always helping me with loading the 50 lbs bags without hesitation as I have toddler and baby in tow. We love their spring chick sale that allows us 8 new chicks each year with a purchase of feed. And we are 5 year return customers of their yearly May sale where the whole family gets treated to food, drinks, prizes, entertainment, photos, good company and great sale prices on our fave items. Great hours for those full time working adults. Wait and don't forget the brewery is now open. I can get the shopping done and get a beer before picking up kids and heading home...say what?! This feed store is well stocked and clean. In May I purchased 4 chicks from them. They are 7 weeks old now and doing well. One was supposed to be a Black Wyandotte but is actually a Black Sex Link. It was an honest mistake. Somehow an employee allowed the two breeds to be housed in the same brooder making it very difficult to distinguish which was which. I'm sure if I had gone back to them with this mistake they would have done everything in their power to fix it. I can recommend this feed store. read more

Customer service here is great. Staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. I love how they have the system where if you buy 10 bags of something you get one free - it's great as I get food for my cat and dog. Their sales are the absolute best - don't ever miss those. Last year at their event we got Stella's frozen dog patties for buy one get one free - we bought 8, lol - an amazing deal. The year before that we bought large bags of dog food - can' remember what kind, but they were at a huge discount...we bought all they had left (Yes, I truly am a pet loving professional!) The benefit of Escondido feed is that they have food for my dog and cat and our chickens and guinea hens. Hawthorne's offers different things and we go there for other supplies sometimes, but the fact that Esco Feed has our Zignature dog and cat food and we can pick up everything else in just one stop is amazing :) read more

Bot sore how long they have been doing this but they also have a small brewery tasting, with music and a food truck on Fridays and Saturdays. I enjoyed the 1888 Stout. Nice little store. I don't know about cats, birds or anything else but for dogs they have a Huge variety of food and accessories. Do not expect anything manicured or fancy. It's more like a warehouse. But it's clean and loaded. We went there for Canidae (not that common). They have the best price in the area! We called 3-4 places that carried it and their price was the BEST! Run about $10 cheaper than everybody else's (if you can find it). We go through a huge bag a month! I'll take the $10+ savings! They also had bunch of food bowls, crates, toys, leashes, dog signs (even though they didn't have ours but I get that, there is only a handful of Saint Berdoodles in the country), etc... They had a cool water bowl that made too much sense. You attach it to the hose and it keeps fresh water in the bowl 24/7! I liked that idea for the yard! They also had a good price on Frontline. The birds, chickens, roosters, bunnies and Guinea pigs in the store made for a nice visit for our little one. She had so much fun with those! It's like going to the Zoo! On the way out they gave us a brochure with their future sales. A discount on their already discounted prices - I'll take it! And from what I've heard - it's a family owned business! I'll gladly help them and do my share so they can stay in business! I do recommend this store to every dog owner! It's worth the trip to Escondido! read more

If you enjoy be called a liar by the owner then go to this store. I had been a customer for years until today when I brought a manufactures coupon (Fromm) for a free bag of food with the purchased a bag. I had also bought this food aprox a month ago and the price was $3.00 less (I brought proof of purchase by photo) and the owner said "there is no way you bought that bag a month ago". I ask if they raised there rates in the last month at which time the owner checked the computer and he said they had no price increase since May 2015. It wasn't until they pulled up my card on file that keeps track of the bags purchased that they did in fact sell me that bag in April for $3.00 less. After they realized it was NOT my mistake, they said that it was priced wrong by them. As a consumer, I questioned if they raised their prices right before their annual sale to offset the coupon. Of course they denied that because that would be illegal. They also would not honor that coupon for a family member, even though the coupon did not say one coupon, per person and these are fully reimbursed direct from the manufacture. I informed Fromm directly about the entire experience and they sent me a voucher for another free bag a food that I will use at another retailer. Sorry, but it's not the best practice to call a customer a liar especially when you had all the proof I never lied. I will take my future business to Hawthorne Feed in Escondido and encourage all my friends to do the same. read more

This place is great and the staff is knowledgeable my husband. I don't know what it is about feed stores but I often find that the employees are hella weird but that's not the case at this store. I was drawn to this place by the cleanliness of their chickens. I really like this place now. Honestly, I use to avoid going here at all costs, it was not fantastic before in my opinion. It stank and the chicks looked uncared for and it just wasn't my cup of tea. Boy how things have changed! I went in today since they were the only feed store for miles to have a particular breed of chick I've been looking for. So I went in... begrudgingly. Escondido Feed & Pet Supply is the place to go if you want a knowledgeable and caring team as well as top of the line products for your pets! I drive to Escondido all the way from North Park to get all the supplies for my Frenchie and my kitty! I could get the same items close to my home but I love the service, knowledge, friendliness and overall caring nature of the staff here. It's always a wonderful experience. I wanted to share my little success story with all Frenchie (or other dog) parents that have a baby with allergies and what has changed since we switched to raw. I hope it helps other dog parents in the same situation. Sorry in advance for the long review. I wanted to thank Kim and the entire team of Escondido Feed & Pet Supply for the invaluable advice and recommendations. Escondido Feed & Pet Supply carries all the products that I use and Kim's deep knowledge of dog nutrition and food ingredients are amazing! My little Sophie is almost 2 years old and allergic to almost everything. She was constantly licking her paws, had a chronic ear infection, the wrinkles below her eyes were raw, etc, etc. After trying many different brands of kibble, I switched her to a raw diet recommended by Kim. She is on Stella and Chewy's Beef, Venison and Surf and Turf patties. She has been on it for 7 weeks now. At first, I didn't see much of an improvement, it even got a little worse for a while. I learned from other raw feeding pet parents that it's normal. They go through a detox period when switching to raw. Now, after 7 weeks, the improvement is tremendous! Her allergies are almost gone, no more ear infections, no gas (Frenchie specialty), her fur is super soft and she is doing overall great! And she looooves the food! When I was feeding kibble she would just eat a bit at a time. Now, I put the food down and it's gone in minutes! To help with her very irritated skin between the wrinkles, I used a mixture of apple cider vinegar, peroxide and water. Thank you so much Kim at Escondido Feed & Pet Supply for the recommendation! I wiped her wrinkles daily with this mixture until the are started to dry out and heal. Here is the current routine that is working wonders: Food - Stella and Chewy's and a cap of apple cider vinegar (organic with the "mother) a day mixed with her food for dinner and a little bit of fish oil (Ultra Oil) mixed with her breakfast. Hygiene - Pampers wipes for sensitive skin without any scent. I wipe her wrinkles and paws daily. I also clean her ears with a water and ACV mix twice a week. She is a new dog, much happier and relaxed! And so am I. I was desperate because I didn't know what to do anymore. There is nothing worse than seeing your baby suffer and being helpless. I was calling around different pet stores to find a good price for some specialty dog food in Escondido, this place is the cheapest and has a frequent buyer program where if you buy a certain number of bags you get one free (which is great because specialty dog kibble isn't exactly cheap, but it is the quality I look for). Their selection of high end dog food is really good and their prices are very competitive. They have chickens here and you can go out back to take a look. They carry a lot of different products for different animals and like I mentioned before, their prices are good. Their hours are a bit short on the weekends (only open on Saturday), but it is reasonable for a small family owned warehouse. On cold days, make sure you wear enough so you feel comfortable standing outside, inside of their warehouse, it does get cold. On hot days, wear something that you won't heat up in, the warehouse does get warm. Basically, the warehouse doesn't offer too much protection from the weather (aside from shelter from the rain and shade from the sun), but it's a great place to get high quality food without paying too much. Oh, if you sign up for their coupon mailing list, it can help you save a few more dollars on the pet food you like. They also don't spam your email, I think I only get 1 email from them a month. read more

Found this place when going to a mobile shot clinic with my dog. The staff is friendly and they have stuff for all your animals! Keep in mind, this is a feed store, so they have farm animals too, not just pets. You can even get chickens! Their prices are good and the dog food we get is $10 less here than Petco! Which is a big deal when a 30lb bag is $40. Watch out for their dogs and cats that are in the store. They are all friendly, but the dogs are big! Your leashed pets are always welcome! read more

I discovered Escondido Feed in early July. Three years after I started picking up my pet's food from a different feed store, that never asked about my pets. In less than two months, the knowledgeable, friendly team members running the store have 1) addressed me by my name 2) spent significant time helping me decide what foods to choose for my varying pets based on their age & health 3) expressed sincere condolences when my 20 year old cat passed away 4) have signed me up for a rewards system based on the amount of food I buy. I love this place. It feels like home when I come in. The selection is extensive and they are literally a better deal than Amazon. Also, they have two awesome resident cats who let me love on them. I found out the hard way.....had to shoot my favorite chicken today that was suffering horribly! And pray the rest of flock does not contract this horrible virus! I love this feed store. I started coming here about 2 years ago looking for a specific dog food brand (Fromm). They are an exceptional store with great customer service. Cannot find what you are looking for? Just ask. They have turned me onto so many products - and each time I go in they have even more new products. They actively try to find the best for any animal. We have recently moved to Temecula and I will still drive down to pick up food. They keep track of your buying promotions as well, Fromm has a buy 12 get 1 free bag promotion, which we love! Oh. I LOVE this place. As a temporary transplant from Los Angeles (who grew up with animals) this is my FAVORITE place in all of North County San Diego! (Sorry, SD, I just don't click with much of the rest of you.) This is truly my happy place. The customer service is AMAZING and friendly. (Kim is the BEST! She remembers me, connected the dots on who my family is, and returned to me a shirt belonging to one of my little sisters that nobody else in the family even realized had been forgotten at the store.) They are knowledgable on their goods, happy to share with you what they offer, but they won't pressure you to buy anything if your budget is tight. On this particular visit, Kim helped me pick out what I truly need to take my dog camping - suggesting that I put back most of what I grabbed since my budget is - as mentioned - tight. The aesthetic, which first grabbed my heart, is wonderful. Walking in, the smell of fresh, clean feed greats my nose. The functional offerings of the store are presented with an aesthetic normally reserved for an LA specialty store - rugged chic. They have a popcorn machine in the corner of the entry way (free snacks)! And they have a wonderful array of poultry (chicks in the store, and full grown birds in clean pens in the back). They had a really good selection considering I am very picky on what I feed my gentle giant. The younger bald guy up front was very helpful, he helped me find what I needed.
