a menu for lunch and dinner
    Shawn R.

Wow!!!!! Was recommended by a friend and was not disappointed. We had the Smothered Pork Chops and Rice, Collard Greens, Green Beans, Fried Chicken (Best in Polk County) broccoli casserole, Lima beans, kids chicken tenders, Mac and cheese and Lemonade. The server was excellent and she let you know it's cooked fresh so it takes a while. The entire staff was friendly. Will definitely be going back.

Located on E Main St. just down the road from the Polk County Courthouse, Especially4U is southern cooking at its finest. Their vegetables (lima beans, sweet potato fries, corn nuggets, collard greens, green beans, fried green tomatoes, grilled squash) are all freshly prepared and never overcooked. Entrees include baked and fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, pork chops, meatloaf, and more, as well as burgers and salads to round it out. One of the charms for regulars is the ever-changing menu which cycles from week to week (though some favorites are always available). Desserts are stand-out as well with their cobblers being of particular note. Prices are middling for lunch with an entree (including two sides) clocking in at $6.99-$7.99 and desserts running $3.50-$3.75.

So look I'm not going to knock this place but I'm going to call it how it is. We got there and it was a nice quaint place. The young lady greeted us immediately and we chose to dine in. I got the lemonade for my drink and it was sugaraide. Naw just way too sugary for me and It definitely wasn't homemade. Not that they said it was I'm just stating I would kind of expect it to be at a soulful restaurant.......Umm OK so I asked the young lady what was the bestseller and she told me the broccoli casserole (not that great), Lima beans and the fried chicken. I opted to go with the special of the day which was ox tails. I didn't know they were 16 bucks! That's fine but it was definitely not worth it. They were probably my least favorite ox tails ever. Hands-down. The gravy has to be from a jar or packet, not made from the meat. I got them over yellow rice and it was just totally bland and the ox tails were small with tons of fat. I didn't eat a quarter of my food. I also ordered the collard greens which I felt they were undercooked and very salty. The lima beans were good as the young lady said. We got red velvet cake to go and I can tell you that red food coloring does not count as red velvet cake. It was ok, but again, not what I expect from a soul food place! The chicken and dumplings were unique, but tasty and could have had more chicken. The best thing going was the batter on the chicken tenders that we ordered for my daughter. The tenders themselves were over cooked. Their batter is amazing thou So if I do decide to go back I will definitely have to just stick with the fried chicken like the young lady originally mentioned as a favorite. Otherwise this was my experience. To each his own

Smothered pork chops over rice with field peas, cheesy broccoli casserole and home made cornbread.

Super yummy old fashioned southern cooking! I had the smothered pork chops with gravy over rice, fresh field peas, cheesy broccoli casserole, and cornbread. It was so good, I ordered 2 meals to go for family. One person had Shepherds Pie, zipper peas, and sweet potato casserole. Another had the daily special Spaghetti, Mac & cheese, and lima beans. Huge servings, most everyone that eats there leaves with leftovers. I got homemade Peach cobbler to go and Wow was that good! Everything was fantastic! I saw lots of folks stopping to get to-go orders to take home. Great place for folks that want just vegetables, lots of choices and daily vegetable specials. It is a real family ran place with three generations right there working together. The night I was there Grandma, the owner, was there cookin' along with her daughter and her granddaughter was serving everybody. They were all working to make everybody feel welcome and happy, and I say they were doing a good job of it! Lots of people were ordering the fried chicken or the meatloaf or the chicken & dumplings so I think I'm going to try one of those next time I go back. I will definitely be back!

This place has gone DOWN!!! Stay away...worst customer service I have EVER had!! My Wife and I arrived at 11am...First people in the door to place a to go order. Watched 3 parties who came in and ordered to go off the menu...NOT CALL AHEAD...walk out with their food. I asked after each person left about our order and was told it is coming. An HOUR after placing our order we are told they do not have the yellow rice we ordered but we can have white rice! I asked why they waited an hour to tell us that? Answer: we just found out! Really???!!!! I said we just want a refund, but it should be comped since we have been here over an hour at this point. No apology given...no offer to make it right. Then the cook comes out while I'm standing there (he was also present when I asked why they waited so long to tell us about the rice) hands a young lady her plate (who came in WELL after us), and says "I have yellow rice for you." STAY AWAY. This isn't the only soul food place around.

Richard was coming to Bartow to meet up with his cousin and do some antiquing. It was Sunday after church and none of us were on a schedule. We were told the wait was 10 minutes. We were seated in 15. Again, no schedule as I caught up with my BFF and got to know his cousin. We were seated and Cindy, our server immediately took our drink order. Simple waters, iced tea and coffee. The restaurant was busy and Cindy disappeared after our drink order was delivered. No worries, the conversation kept us busy and we wanted to take in the place. Our orders were taken; I had the Ruben, BFF had the skillet, and the cuz had a patty melt. I couldn't tell you how long as we were so enthralled in conversation. Both sammies were served with fries and cole slaw. I was so psyched upon the food arrival. The bread on my Ruben was crunchy, perfect amount of corned beef, sauerkraut, and 1000 island dressing, I devoured it! The crinkled fries were crispy and when I asked for honey mustard for dipping, it was brought out immediately! The patty melt looked equally amazing as did the skillet. I was told the biscuit my BFF ordered was fresh and tasted homemade. He could have eaten 5 more. When I write reviews, I am not in a rush. I am more about the experience than Cindy or any server trying to turn a table. Outside of hanging with my BFF and his cousin, it was so worth the 30+ mile drive! THANK YOU for a wonderful experience at your little diner.

If you can find a way to get here though you absolutely should. I've been here a couple times and had people bring me things from here and I'm always very happy. My favorite thing I ever had here was a chocolate peanut butter pie, which was mind blowingly good. However, everything I've had from here has been pretty spectacular. I highly recommend the cookies here. I really love cookies, but their brown butter cookie is incredible. The pastries are really good too. I really enjoy the glazed croissant and I recently had a lemon twist that was very good. Finally, the sandwiches that I've had from here are both really good as well. I've only had the breakfast sandwiches, but I enjoyed the hot honey sausage biscuit and the bacon breakfast sandwich. 5 stars.

I truly wish them the best because they definitely have something special. They just need to find a better way to manage the flow of customers and make the overall experience a little smoother.

We've been coming here for the better part of 10 years. Seriously, this place is fantastic. Today we came in just after the lunch rush. And what makes me write a review after all this time is because The Reuben has been added to their sandwich lineup. I am a sucker for a good Reuben. I love some of the various versions out there like a Grouper Reuben or a Turkey Reuben but there is nothing like an original. The bread is their marble rye which was already freakin fantastic; patty melts are phenomenal here. The ratio of corned beef and sauerkraut was spot on perfect. Don't you just hate it when it's out of balance? The cheese was perfectly melted and the dressing was oh so good. It was sandwich heaven. My apologies for having no pictures. They didn't warn him that the pancakes would be green, lol. We thought it was pretty funny, but he said they didn't taste that good. He loved the rest of his breakfast. I had the French toast and bacon with hashbrowns and scrambled eggs. I loved the French toast and bacon, but didn't like the hashbrowns and eggs. It was really hit or miss. The outside patio is beautifully decorated with lights, tables and chairs and greenery with foliage to create that natural outdoor vibe. When you enter, it's like walking into a small home where you greeted and seated by a hostess or server. There's a main great room and 2 smaller rooms that have seating as well and ambiance lighting throughout for intimate gatherings. The bathrooms are clean and fully stocked with necessities. As for the food, I got the Brussel sprouts salad without goat cheese which was delicious . It was about the size of my fist for $13. I assumed it was more of a tasting menu. My mother got the gnocchi which was described as delicious but lukewarm in temperature. She loved the beet salad however and the side of sour dough bread. My dad got a 13oz steak with potato purée. His steak was good in flavor however he described it as a bit too tough, and could have been more tender. Since he is a retired chef of 40 years I value his input. My other family members ordered the egg yolk ravioli which seemed a bit of a strange combination but certainly worked out in flavor. The labneh that was with the beet salad was also paired and eaten with the sourdough bread which seemed to be a great idea. Unfortunately the bolognese pasta was not tender enough for my family's liking. If you like pasta that way then you should be just fine. Over all it was fine dining and good. If you would like to go to a place where the portions are a bit larger I would suggest another place. But this is a nice casual dining intimate place for any special small occasion.
