Esperia Grill is FANTASTIC. I was skeptical at first since it's a bit dive-y looking (like a diner but a little less nice) and you order your food up front and then they bring it to you (I'm kind of a snob). But the food was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Kebab dinner. The salad was fresh, the bread tasted homemade, and the dressing was finger licking good. The chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked. I ordered rice and corn as my sides. They did not look good in the case, but boy did they taste yummy. As a side note, you can tell that the owner really cares about the food as it is going out to customers which is nice to see. And the kid who was our waiter could not have been nicer. He was serving the whole restaurant and he was still attentive and courteous. I will absolutely be going back to the Esperia Grill. It's tasty, cheap, healthy, and finger licking good. This place is fantastic. I don't really know where to start. I think I've only had their fish special here, which is either salmon or swordfish (I got swordfish) with grilled veggies and a salad. Great value, delicious fish, and good quality. Comes with pita, which was delicious as well. I think that was all for about $13, and you get LOTS of fish. How can it get any better? Delicious. Indeed. The greek salad dressing is exceptionally garlicly and peppery, better than any I have ever tasted and I know my greek salads! The spinach pie is solidly spinach, not overwhelmed w/ feta like I have had at some places. My fiance raves about the cheeseburger- great bread and a solid hunk of meat. **Disclaimer: have only had delivery** What is a group of students stuck at Boston College to do, when they have been there from 10am and it is now 6pm and they are starving? One of them (me) doesn't like pizza all that much (shush!), another is kinda picky, and no one really has an opinion (except for no pizza). Using foodler, we stumble upon Esperia. All of us order the chicken kabobs, with greek potatoes and another side. I was super happy with my spinach and rice. Each plate came with a nice salad, pita bread, and the portions were VERY GENEROUS. Next time I'm in the area, I'd love to either dine-in or get take out. It is NOT the cheapest delivery (pizza, is of course, the cheapest), but much more satisfying. read more

I mean, everyone already said everything so let me add this: I try to eat here every day. I could drink the tzatziki (sp?)... FREAKING DELICIOUS! EVERYTHING on the menu is AMAZING. I usually get a lamb kebob something (single kebob on a salad/pita... sometimes dinner plate!) or the chicken gyro salad special. I LOVE their salad dressing it's the only dressing I use on any salad anymore. I'm so relieved they sell it in bottles. It's always a hit with guests when I make a salad. I also HATE lamb.... this is the only place that I'll eat it at and it's my go-to. It's SO flavorful and doesn't have that distinct lamb-y taste that I typically don't like. GOOD JOB! One word of caution: they close for several weeks in July. It's the most devastating thing ever because I basically starve while they're closed. There's usually a massive celebration with balloons and confetti when they reopen, so keep an eye out for their close notice so that you can stock up! read more

I've been wanting to go here for a while due to my addiction to greek food. All I can say is OMG BAKLAVA!!! Seriously amazing. I ate even more this morning and was still in heaven. The baklava has some cinnamon in it, which isn't the typical type, but it is one I enjoy immensely! The spinach pie had a little too muh spinach but was still quite good. The grape leaves I was told were awesome, but I only like meat grape leaves and they only have vegetarian. I shall go back and try their gyros next time or lamb shanks. This is one of my favorite places to get food in the Allston/Brighton area. The portions are huge and the food is pretty cheap. Most importantly, everything is so delicious! The spicy feta spread is SO ADDICTING. You can spread it on anything and everything. I suggest getting a pint of it to bring home so you can spread it on your sandwiches. As a person surrounded by Greek friends, I've tried a few places in the area. I've got to say, hands down, Esperia takes the cake with it's classic Gyro. They layer the meat on a spit and shave it off, the way it was meant to be served. Soooo good. This is now THE place I will recommend when friends ask for a Greek place in Boston. Small, clean, deli-like place with very friendly staff and owner. The lamb shanks are so tender and delicious. The appetizer platter for $10 gets you 4 spreads with pita (the feta spread and Skordalia are awesome). Even the salad was great. They also serve beer (incl. Marathon Greek beer) and wine. The portions are huge and cheap. 2 lamb shanks with 2 large sides and a salad is $15. Everything I have had here has been delicious. I remember before this place renovated, when it was just a regular pizza place, I would order steak and cheese subs, and they were good also. As people have mentioned before, the gyros are different from what you usually get, the meat is fresh and doesn't taste mass produced., and I like the lamb better than the chicken. I've tried the cold mushroom appetizer and it was delicious, it had a vinegary/pickled taste, as good or better as what you can get in a European deli. Also I tried the stewed mixed vegetables, they were also very good with just the right amount of seasoning. The people here are very friendly and customer oriented, they have beer from Greece. The only bad thing is once when we were there late, I heard the owner criticizing his employees for eating too much of the food during the day. This is the only possible bad thing I can think of. Eaten here 2-3 times. The food is modest Greek fare that is often pulled from a heating tray. I don't get the raves. I've had a lot of dry, less-than-flavorful proteins and equally dry/overcooked sides here. Cheap beer is nice. Mostly friendly staff. This place recently reopened as Esperia. It's still run by the same family but the place has been revamped with nicer seating options and glass deli cases up by the counter to showcase the food. I used to come here when the place was still Brighton Center House of Pizza and it was pretty good then. It's AWESOME now that they have more Greek items on the menu. I just got an appetizer platter with hummus, skordalia(garlic spread), tzatziki, feta spread and some WARM pita bread- all for about $9 - perfect! Esperia was one of the first restaurants that I tried after moving into the area and to say the least I was pretty impressed. Esperia has a great selection of Greek food. I ordered a gyro and a side of hummus. My fiance ordered something that he referred to as "greek lasagna" (pastichio sp?). Esperia serves the best humus I have ever had. Ever since I came here, i dream about this food. It was by far the best greek food I've had and it was SO CHEAP! We ordered the hummus as an appetizer, which was a huge portion with unlimited fresh pita bread.... and let me tell you, I'm quite the hummus connoisseur and their hummus is one of the best I've had. The we split the greek pizza and the Mediterranean panini, both of which my heart yearns for now. All the food was so fresh and so good and very light. I want to go back again and again. WOW!!!!!!! Amazing greek food. Authentic. A family run establishment that reminds you of your greek friends family gatherings. What a little gem tucked away in Brighton. Everything we have had here was delicious. Love all the hot/cold apps, the sides, the meats. I love it all. I have had most items on the menu and they have all been delicious. My favorite is the chicken kabob on a pita. Meals come with generous portions of greek salad. The dressing is a bit creamy but you better not be counting calories when you walk through those doors...The portions are generous and the flavors leave you fiendin for more. I have had a lot of greek food and this place really sets itself apart from the rest of them. GET IT! There is parking too. Food is made to order and service can be a bit slow. I had the beef kabobs- A+ with a delicious side of butternut squash puree (couldn't resist... tis the season I guess) and the other side I chose was the Greek style roasted potatoes. The food here is for the most part incredibly delicious, and the only reason I don't give them five stars is that they lack the cozy factor. I think it's because of the high volume of take-out that they do that the sit-down service seems like more of an afterthought. But once I sit down get over myself and dig into the skordalia (holy crap it's good!), lamb kebabs, falafel, or pork gyros... well I get over myself. Foodwise the only thing I don't really get are the hot veggies which tend to be boiled and mushy, so I'd recommend sticking to cold sides and salads. read more

Nice people, and terrific Greek delights... We used to love the Acropolis in Needham, then it closed, and Farm Grill has good food but terrible atmosphere and service. For some reason it's hard to find Greek food this area, there just aren't too many places that aren't take -out, or have really weird service. Great food but a little overpriced for the portions. Mousaka, gyro, apps were all very good. A huge disappointment was the microwaved pita bread which turned tough/crunchy in a few minutes. I've been meaning to try this place for a while, but never did because it did not seem like a good sit down place from the outside. More like a elaborate pizza shop. I was wrong. Recently I finally went there with my girlfriend. We were both amazed. I'd have to say that partially I was right. The place does not have the ambiance that a lot of other sit down restaurants have. There are multiple tables there and the place is quite spacious. The food is really really good, and the people who work there are great. Unless it is a special occasion that requires ambiance, music in the background, champagne and waiter service (which this place does not), I'd definitely return without a second thought. read more

This is the first review I've given that's received 5 stars and it's with good reason. I've been here several times, eat-in and take-out and have been thoroughly happy each time. You never have to worry about whether the food will be good--Esperia constantly delivers fresh, authentic Greek, and delicious food. I've tried the chicken gyro, chicken orzo, tzatziki, grape leaves, falafel--all of this is delicious and I can't wait to try more. I brought some family and friends here last week and they were all pleased. They kept commenting on how even at 9p on a Wednesday the place was still packed and busy--clearly showing the popularity of the restaurant and the many fans. My friend got the beef gyro and said she was shocked at how little vegetables there was and how much meat it came with. This shows the quality and standard Esperia holds itself to. The gyro cost $8 and while most places are cheap and load up their gyros with vegetables with little meat to save themselves money, Esperia does the opposite. The prices are so reasonable and the food is delicious so you owe it to yourself to give this place a try--I'm sure you will not be disappointed! read more

This place has been on my list for a while and I finally got to stop by. Being from Queens, NY I had high expectations for this greek spot. I've tried the other Boston spots and was unimpressed. My boyfriend and I shared the Saganaki to start. Perfectly grilled and crunchy. Next was the greek salad with a deliciously creamy dressing. Next, I had the Moussaka, my favorite. It comes (as all dinners) with a side of Greek salad (with an amazing dressing!) and two hot sides. My favorite ones are sauteed string beans, roasted vegetables, and spinach and rice. Had such an amazing meal here tonight! The appetizers (cold platter with pita) was so flavorful with lots of options to try different things with pita. Loved the Tzatziki -- the flavors balanced each other perfectly. The chicken in the gyro was crispy on the outside yet so tender on the inside. They were flavored so nicely and paired well with the roasted veggies on the inside of the gyro and with the side of butternut squash! Also, their house made salads and salad dressings were so fresh.
