Loaded with two strips of bacon, two grilled shrimp, and two giant olives, they were almost a meal themselves. We also ordered the Peruvian Ceviche ($22), a Baqueta sea bass marinated in lime juice, Aji Amarillo peppers, red onions, cilantro, with a "Leche de Tigre" sauce, and tortilla chips...delicioso! Overall, the atmosphere, drinks, and food were very good, but our waitress could have been a little more attentive (silverware, napkins, checking in after the food was served, etc.). That is a small personal pizza with a salad and we each got that. Salads came out first and I had the arugula salad, which was absolutely phenomenal. 10 of 10 would eat this every single day. The arugula was peppery and it was well dressed in a lemon vinaigrette type sauce. I am a fan of just plain lemon on mine, but this was delicious. My husband got a union salad, which is their specialty I guess. It's got colored carrots and some beets and some shallots. I thought the dressing was bland and it certainly needed salt and pepper. We asked for both and didn't get either. Our pieces came out and they were nice and woodfired. I feel like they could've been done just a little bit longer maybe a minute or two. The sauce was a lovely fresh type crushed tomato sauce. The cheese was nice and gooey and did not feel or taste like a package of processed cheese. Pepperonis were greasy, but in a real meat kind of way. I had to dab mine, but my husband just went to town on his. The pickled peppers is a pickled jalapeño. Big chunks of them. They certainly didn't skimp on any of the toppings. They were a little sweet and a little hot. Some of the big chunks were a little too sweet for my liking but overall, it was a nice flavor mix Also from a size standpoint, I thought the salad and pizza were very adequate for lunch at around $20 price point I asked for salt and pepper again as well as a side of ranch. This time we did get the salt and pepper as well as cheese and crushed red pepper. But we didn't get the ranch until we were leaving. The server did apologize and said he thought someone else was bringing it out but I pretty much deducted a star because we asked for a couple different things that never came. Location wise they have a big parking structure across the street that you can use and walk. It is conveniently located in an area with plenty of businesses nearby like coffee shops and different restaurants.

The 6x6 sounded a lot bigger on paper, but it was actually pretty small when it came out. It's a good snack for 2 people, but for 1 person it would definitely be filling. Their onion rings were FIRE. Seriously. Some of the best onion rings I've had in a long time. Very well seasoned breading and perfectly cooked. The breading was crispy, but not crunchy. I love craggly, thick onion rings, but sometimes those do a number on the roof of your mouth. These? I could eat 'em all day. Service was great although it did kinda take a little too long for the food to come out, but I guess it was worth the wait. I love the inside of the space too. It's an old building with some character to it. I will definitely be back!

The coconut shrimp, pepperoni pizza, and chicken quesadilla are some of my favorite on the HH menu. I've also tried the avocado egg rolls, which have sun dried tomatoes and are really good. The BBQ chicken pizza with corn on it as well. I wasn't sure about the corn at first but it actually works well. Service is always good even when it gets busy. The bar always has great service and great bartenders. Definitely a good spot for HH, grabbing drinks with friends, family, or watching a game. It feels like a restaurant but gives casual bar vibes.

I can't think of even one reason why this restaurant would deserve my praise, let alone anyone else's. I am legitimately shocked that people are reviewing this restaurant with more than one star. After driving by this restaurant several times when I would come into town, and seeing the patio packed, I arranged a night with friends to eat there. It took at least 10 minutes for our waiter to approach us about what we would like to drink and then another ten minutes for him to return with the drinks and chips. Let me mention it was extremely slow. There were very few people eating there and there were several waiter's/waitresses scurrying around the patio, which we were seated on, and yet none of them seemed to be helping any customers? Bad service I can overlook from time to time but disgusting food is a whole different story. I am not picky when it comes to food and I have never sent something back to the kitchen before, and mind you I eat out somewhat frequently. I ordered a chile relleno and when it arrived I was excited to try it. By the way, I know authentic mexican food... This was the furthest thing from that. It was disgusting, I could not even swallow the bite of it that I took. I spit it out, as did my friend who ordered the exact same thing. The other friend I went with ordered a burger and though the texture and taste of the bun was "questionable" and "gross" (according to him), he decided to eat it because he was hungry. My friend and I debated whether or not we should send the chile relleno's back to the kitchen and order something else or just wait until after our other friend finished eating to go elsewhere to get something to eat. Boy, do I wish we had gone elsewhere, but no, we were stupid enough to try to order other food from the menu. I ordered a simple bean and cheese burrito and she ordered a taco. This time the food came out looking like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an unknown, but definitely lengthy, amount of time. Once again it was terrible. We did not eat more than a bite and waited for our waiter to bring the check. When it became evident to him that we were not going to eat any more of our meals he picked up our plates without asking why they had barely been touched. This is not typical of me to write a bad review, but this food was so, so far from good and then I ended up just paying for the burrito in the end regardless the fact that I did not eat it. I am extremely surprised that some people have reviewed this place with good reviews. It literally blows my mind, and I am wondering if maybe these people lost taste buds and are therefore incapable of deciphering good food from bad. Management: My first suggestion is that you find new recipes for everything on the menu. Not that I tasted everything, but the few things that I did taste were terrible enough to make me think that all food that comes out of your kitchen is gross. My second suggestion is that you hire friendly/sociable employees who realize that customer service is important and who make it a point to provide good customer service, and maybe, CRAZY IDEA, an employee intelligent enough to comprehend that if a customer did not eat more than a bite of his/her food, he or she didn't like it, and then OH YEAH don't charge them for it since it's the restaurant's mistake. read more

This is actually a response to Lara S. whom previously wrote a review on Espiau's Restaurant. I would like to address a couple areas of concern you seemed to have had. Where do I start... I would like to apologize on behalf of my staff for the experience you had. We do try to ensure our guests are happy and I am very sorry we did not make that happen for the two of you. Generally speaking, things like Sour Cream are always are an additional charge in a restaurant. Since you along with your boyfriend, have worked in restaurants (as you stated), I am sure you both have had to charge guests for ordering something that did not come with their meal. Keep in mind that restaurants pay for every item that comes in and therefore the convenience of it being available to customers is reflected on their bill. However, I apologize for my server not informing you of the added charge. The predisposed idea of "the customer is always right," and having worked in restaurants, I am sure you can understand this and know that this is not always the case. I am not necessarily speaking in terms of your situation, just in general. The reality of it is, you can try to please your guests but that does not always happen. One can not make everyone happy as I am sure you have experienced at some point. The concern I agree with again, is the matter in which the situation was handled. We should have apologized for your experience and let you know that we would be talking to the server to ensure this did not happen again. We could have even taken the $1.50 off since it caused such a stink. So with that, we truly do apologize and regret that your experience was all but pleasant. I love Espiau's and it's down-home atmosphere! They always decorate the restaurant for each holiday, including guessing how many candy hearts, jelly beans, etc. in a large tank. Dave has done wonders redecorating the old gas station/butcher shop into a fun, sports bar and family restaurant. The busboys are fantastic and fast-- bringing you water, chips and salsa as soon as you get settled. Carrie is always changing the menu and concocting something new including appetizers and my latest favorite, a brownie drizzles in melted peanut butter and chocolate. My favorite things on the menu are: the Espiau's salad, Albondigas soup, their burgers, onion rings, chicken enchiladas, tacquitos covered with green sauce, and of course, their margaritas! Great selection to eat inside the restaurant, the patio, or if you want to people watch or are walking your dog and want to stop for a bite, there is sidewalk dining. The servers make sure your puppy has water and is offered a treat if the owner approves. The restaurant brings in bands and has a great wait staff. We are greeted not only by our server, but others as well when we visit. It's not too often when you're actually greeted by the owner and he'll stop what he's doing in the kitchen to welcome you. Note: If it's fight night and you just want to eat and could care less about watching TV, call ahead and get reservations, they'll put you in the front room where you won't be distracted. Worst experience I've had in a long time. A a few friends and I went to have a beer and watch the fight here on Saturday April 18th, 09. We went in to get a table and the manager was a complete ass to us. He told us not to even bother and wait. They were busy so that is understandable but no need to be a jerk about it. So we went outside and we were standing along the fence watching the fight from the street. Well we noticed a table on the outside was empty and no one wanted to sit there because you can not drink alcohol on the outside so we went in to see if we could sit there and the manager said sure but you guys all need to spend at least 20 bucks min each. without alcohol! How do you do that? We explained that we would come inside and order drinks when the fight was over and the manager said OK then you have to order $20 min outside (no alcohol) and $20 min inside too. What kind of crap is this. That has got to be considered rape in some countries. Who can even order $20 worth of food without alcohol? So we never got to experience the food or drinks only the worst manager in the history of managers and you can be sure that I will not go back along with my friends and if someone asks I will tell them about the horrible experience I had. read more

Previously emailed this message to Espiau's Restaurant, (espiaus@gmail.com) on 03-25-16: I was at your establishment this last Sunday 03-20-16 and had a wonderful meal and wonderful time, we always do. Everything was great until I received the bill. I was a little surprised to see that I was charged $10.50 for a 32oz. Shock top. A little bit high for my taste and experience also I paid for two full Espiau's salads when we ordered two side salads. Now, I'm pretty sure that I'm fully at fault for not paying attention to minor details/pricing but I felt that the meal was a little more expensive than expected ($81.37 before tax & tip) for 3 meals. The 32 oz. Shock Top at most places is about $8 and at some locations they'll knock off $1 for happy hour. Sunday before noon obviously had no pricing opportunities for well drinks. I looked at your on-line menu (espiaus.com/menu.php) and it doesn't support any pricing for the Shock Top, only sizing. In the future I will need to pay better attention. It is not my intention to offend, only to inform. There may be others who feel the same. I will definitely return another time. I absolutely adore Espiau's. It's been my cherished culinary haven for years, consistently delivering simple yet mouthwateringly delicious meals. I have a soft spot for their salad--it's a delightful guilty pleasure. However, what truly steals the show for me are their chips! So much so, that when I was organizing my wedding in Claremont, I couldn't shake the idea of having these chips grace our event as appetizers. After reaching out to Espiau's through their Instagram account, my dream became a reality. They offer their famed chips in various quantities--by the 1/2 lb, 1 lb, and even in a bucket that generously serves around 20 people. Opting for extravagance, we ordered 5 buckets of chips, accompanied by 3 gallons of salsa and 3 quarts of guacamole. This abundance of flavor turned out to be more than sufficient to satisfy our party of 100 guests. The reaction was unanimous--our guests couldn't stop raving about the chips! They were an undeniable hit, sparking numerous inquiries about their origin. It was immensely satisfying to introduce others to the Claremont treasure that is Espiau's. read more

I have been coming to Espiau's for years. I bring the board from the local soccer club for meetings, host dinners with clients here, and my business parter and I often wind down over a cocktail from time to time. Most of the staff has seen my face and some even know my name. Today I took my nephew and nieces there and a friend, and I was just so shocked that a party of 5 sat there for 20 minutes and NO drink or food order was taken. We weren't even greeted by our waitress. Only the bus boy brought over chips and salsa. Now I understand that it was a busy day with it being the last holiday or vacation day and then the bowl games, but 20 minutes. I just felt like there would be more loyalty especially to a familiar face. Or maybe they took that for granted. Lately things have been slowing going down hill, this isn't our first struggle with bad service here, and the food isn't as good, and the staff just don't seem to have time or the car to talk to restaurant goers like they used to. Atmosphere is nice. Great location in cozy downtown claremont. However, this restaurant leaves a log to be desired, at least if you know what attention to detail and costomer service means. Don't get me wrong, our waitress was friendly, but there were loooong stretches where they would not come by to fill our water (they gave us these dinky water glasses) and the busboys could basically give a heck about it. Our waitress, although the place was not very busy on a wed night, did not pay much attention to that, of making sure we had silverwear. We order thr cheese queso which should be renamed rnchilada sauce, because ut is red, and doest not taste at all like cheese. I had ghe combo plate. Ground beef taco was edible but thats it. Cheese enchilada so so. Beans and rice marginal. Caddilac margarita overpriced and undervalued. I will not be going back. These are my honest opinions. Don't go here. Garbage service. Over priced food. We were seated quickly, server took about 10 minutes to take our drink order and another 10 minutes to come back for the rest of the order. Food took another 30-40 minutes to come out. During that time she did not bother asking for drink refills or if we wanted more chips. Finally the food came. It was ok, one person got a $12 salad that was mostly a huge bowl of shredded cheese. Server gave us the check after we had to go look for her. We paid cash hoping she would come back with change faster than she would with a card, guess what, she never came back with the change! We asked the hostess where she was, turns out her shift ended and she left thinking we tipped her! What a crap place. We were there for over 2 hours it took so long!!!! read more

I was just looking throught these reviews and noticed how someone mentioned something about Espiaus UFC fight nights... In my opinion, espiaus is a perfect place to hang out with friends, drink a couple of beers and watch a good game.. When it comes to fight nights, theres a $20 MINIMUN PURCHASE per person and 18 PERCENT gratuity added to the check, which is completely reasonable as showing it on every tv is gonna put a dent in the wallet... Plus, after drinking a few beers and eating a good meal, before you know it, youve already hit $20... this place is upbeat and fun. They always put a lot of work in decorating the place for the holidays, service is good, food is delicious... And fight nights are memorable! Will definetly b going back there soon!! read more

I didn't really love Espiau's after visiting for the first time last week. I walked in and waited to be seated. I waited for a few minutes, all the while having servers whiz past me not asking if I needed help, after we ordered and started to eat we started to notice that there was hard stuck on food that was too stuck to be our food when i brought it to their attention they took the plate to the back, when they came back it was on a clean plate.. I decided to not finish my food and asked for my money back!! So gross!! read more

This is one of our all time favorites! I understand difficulties with staffing, covid, and the shortened hours. Be understanding people. Covid has been hard on everyone everywhere, especially now. So we make sure we go earlier, when possible. My favorite is the Albondigas soup with the sourdough roll. Add an Espiau's salad and their famous chips and salsa... its a filling meal. I am a frequent diner of Espiau's and I absolutely love it! The food is fantastic and large in portion. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have .99 cent taco's on Tuesday nights with a great happy hour! The only issue can be finding a place to sit. it's OK except for the fact their tortilla chips broke 2 of my TEETH yes my teeth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They serve beer in fruit bars who knows why? go there but be wise with the tortilla chips. read more

I used the salsa from the chips and salsa but honestly it wasn't enough, and would've appreciated more salsa options. Chalupa was a bit spicier and more flavorful with shredded beef inside. There was some random guac on the side that also had no flavor. Like damn, squeeze some lime on that b*tch, and maybe some salt. Serving with limes on the side would've gone a long way actually. I feel like it's a basic spot for basic, mostly white Claremont clientele. I'd come back for a convenient lunch but I'd never recommend it to a friend who is actually interested in good ethnic food.
