Thank You Bruce for a totally professional attitude and service . I took my 15year old Dualit toaster in for a diagnosis as it wasn't working . Bruce called me and told me he had been onto the company as he was unfamiliar with the brand (an old English company) They had not helped much but with a bit of time Bruce figured out that all was fine and we had accidently flicked a switch and that was the problem. When my wife picked it up she was told there was no charge as he hadn't really done anything to fix it . Not often these day do you find a genuine and decent person who treats you how people used to enjoy being treated many years ago. It was so refreshing especially considering we too, are in the service industry . A few months ago I needed a new vacuum. I looked online for a few options then decided to try here before I purchased anything. I left with a refurbished miele. I am thrilled with it. It works great, came with a warranty and Bruce threw in a few extra attachments. I abuse our vacuum and this has held up! I liked that I could support a local shop. I was having some serious issues with my Dyson and Home Depot wouldn't accept my return as it had been more than 90 days. Dyson referred me to Bruce at Essex Vacuum Inc. I parked out front and as soon as I stepped in I could tell I would be well treated (it helped that he had some super grateful customers, who were insisting he accept a tip for all his hard work, finishing up before me). Bruce was super nice and got right to work on my vacuum! Within minutes, he had found and fixed the problem! I had spent hours at Home Depot, including time with the well meaning repair men who didn't seem to really know one brand of vacuum from another, and had left dragging my still broken vacuum back to the car. I like using local companies whenever possible. We have a 5 year old Dyson, and it just needed a tune up. To about a week for them too complete, which I expected...and I'm happy with the service I received. A little pricey, but then again, I have nothing really to compare it to. Repeat customer over here (not because he didn't fix the issues, repeat because my multiple German Shepard's and children keep reeking havoc ) this place is honestly super convenient, they're professional, they're nice, and they get the job done. I don't find them to be too pricey.. i mean, they're fixing a machine that gets daily use in my house- if it was wicked cheap I'd be cautious. I feel like people know the price of everything and the value of nothing. What's it worth to bring the vacuum to the guy down the street- honestly as a multiple dog owner, it's priceless. But no- they are not too expensive. I also really like to support small local businesses (so amazon doesn't run the whole world and turn my city into a dust town) so when he asked if i wanted to buy some Miele bags while I was there, I said yeah- cause us Miele owners know you can't just get them everywhere. I had a kirby that was having transmission issues- it wasn't kicking into drive, so I brought it to Essex Vac because they are local and told me over the phone they've been working on Kirbys for over 15 years. The first time I took it in, they told me (over the phone) that nothing was wrong with it and that it would be $300 to replace the transmission. Wnen I went in to pick it up I spoke with the owner who told me there was nothing wrong with it, then he said because he wasn't the one who worked on it he really didn't know, and that it would be $150 to replace the transmission and a tune up would be $90. Hmmmm. So I took it home, and brought it back with a more articulate description of what was going on with it. Same. "Nothing is wrong with it." So I took it to the Kirby folks in Woburn, a drive I was trying to avoid, and they did a $25 tune up and the thing runs good as new, the problem was that a gear had slipped out of place. They had it for 24 hours too, versus the 3-7 days Essex Vac needed it for. Long story short, I'd never refer these guys for KIrby owners, not to mention, if you have someone who isn't an authorized Kirby person work on your machine, the real Kirby people aren't supposed to even touch the machine because the fakies might have messed something up. Word for the wise.... Do the Kirby thing! :) read more

The wheel fell off my Hoover Air Cordless and Hoover had me bring it to their certified repair shop closest to me because it was under the five year warranty. I dropped it off on Monday, July 18 and was given an estimate of a week and a half for it to be ready. I called two weeks later on Monday, August 1 and was told the repair guy was on vacation that week, but that the part hadn't even come in, and my vacuum was next in line to be worked on once he came back from vacation. So I called back on Tuesday, August 9 and was again told the repair guy was on vacation for the week! The guy answering the phone said he'd make sure my vacuum would be moved to right next to the bench so it can be worked on as soon as he comes back from vacation; there was no word on whether the damn part had even come in. I'm on hold with Hoover right now to complain about the tech they've certified in this area. Now I don't deny everyone need some vacation time, but two non-consecutive weeks? And then to accept a new job and give an estimate for repair for a time you know you'll be on vacation? I am supremely unhappy with the service from Essex Vacuum. read more

Abhorrent service! I don't know how this place remains in business! I bought a high end vacuum cleaner from Essex Vacuum for my wife a little more than a year ago. The reason I purchased from Essex Vacuum was to support a small, local business and because I was greeted with hospitality my first time in. The vacuum cleaner I bought was a pricey, "Made in USA" model that had features I liked, and with the purchase came a box of extra bags and one free tune up. After encountering issues with its performance within the first year of owning, I took it back to Essex Vacuum to inquire about the poor suction I was experiencing and if need be, to use my one free tune up that was included with the original purchase. This time around I had the owner of the business help me and he took a quick look before printing me out a service receipt for the one free tune up I was due. He told me that it would be a few days before someone could get to it but that it would be ready to be picked up the following week, and that I would receive a phone call. Two weeks passed before I finally called to ask about the vacuum. The gentleman who answered my phone call did not know the status of the vacuum and said that he would call me back that day to let me know. I never received a phone call. Now a few more days had passed before I called back again and this time spoke with a woman. I explained that I would like to come pick up the vacuum and she said that the service claim check number that I gave her was not logged into the computer as having been worked on yet, but that she would make sure someone would get to it the following day and it would be ready on Saturday (3 days from the phone call) for pick up. Now I was not able to pick it up that Saturday that it was promised to me, so I went into the store the following Saturday to pick it up. At this point it is over a month since I first dropped the vacuum off to be tuned up. Here is where it gets more interesting. After waiting around for some 5 minutes while the owner rudely engaged in recreational chit chat with an already helped customer about skiing and living in Vermont, I approached the counter with my service claim check stating that I was here to pick up my vacuum. He asked if I had received a phone call about it being done and I said I was promised that it would be done by the previous Saturday. Disinterested, he went downstairs to get the vacuum. When he came up into the showroom (disgusted) with the vacuum, he tossed the front cover onto a chair, was dragging the cord which was in complete disarray behind him and the vacuum was all dusty. My wife and I take care of things and keep our belongings in good condition. When we dropped off the vacuum, it was in "like new" condition minus the need for a fresh bag and filter. Now I have a lot of patience, but after seeing the condition of our vacuum, the way it was handled, and that it obviously never was tuned up, I asked the owner who was replacing the bag as part of his "emergency repair" job what exactly had been done. He grumbled "nothing! Absolutely nothing!" Not even offering me a fair explanation except that they "dropped the ball" the owner was very arrogant, insincere, and unapologetic! Handling the situation as tactful and calm as possible, I couldn't believe this man's attitude and lack of respect for a returning customer! This man was unprofessional and patronized me in front of my wife. This was an awful and unacceptable experience! Upon leaving the store and expressing my displeasure with the service and my whole experience, I informed the owner of my intentions to file a complaint with the BBB to which his remark was, "Do what you have to do." read more

I purchased an Oreck part on the online sales branch of Essex. The next day went on line and viewed their order status page and it said that the order was in processing and shipping. After 2 weeks I had not received the parts so called the 800 number. There was no answer. The next day I called and got an employee who said he didn't have any knowledge of the computer system and that Bruce was not in, I called the following day and told Bruce to cancel the order and provide me with a refund. He said he would process the refund that day. 3 days later I again went to the account status page and it was noted that the refund had been made. I checked my bank and there has been no refund as yet. The owner Bruce Tucker is an unprofessional businessman and a liar. His catalog said the part was in stock the reason on the status page for the refund was part not in stock. I was never informed that the part was not in stock and was lied to. I would never recommend this shyster shop to anyone and would not trust Bruce E. Tucker with anything of value. read more
