I first started going to Esther's decades ago, back when she was located near the Warner Avenue Post Office, and I was so happy to find her again at Old World. Her chicken salad sandwiches are, without exaggeration, the best I have ever had. They are absolutely delicious and every bit as good as I remember. But what really makes Esther's Place special is Esther herself. She is warm, personable, welcoming, and genuinely cares about her customers. I had eaten at Esther's place over 10 years ago with friends & it left a strong impression. Back then it was inside a old style pharmacy/vitamin shop. I had thought of going again back as they're closed on Sundays, I didn't get to go back until today (worked most Saturdays until last year). It seems the old pharmacy location is a different business now & Esther's Place is inside Old World Village near Bella Terra. Always drove past this place thinking this place was for Octoberfest like the one in Torrance. I was pleasantly surprised at the charm of the whole plaza & the stores they had in the Old World Village. The owner & the namesake of the store was there & greeted everyone with a big smile. She was friendly & welcoming. There seem to be regulars as she chatted with them with familiarity. You order at the counter wherebthere are a few stools. I got the half sandwich & a shake. She gave me a bowl of soup so I told her I wanted the shake. She said the soup was just for me to taste! She gave me a generous amount 'just to taste '. hisband ordered the full sandwich with soup & Esther said he will enjoy the soup as everyone loves it. He sure did enjoy the soup! Each day of the week, there's different soup, except split pea soup is served on Wednesday & Saturday. I got the 14k shake & it was delicious with lots of coconut shavings in it. I got half an egg sandwich which was delicious as well with tomato, lettuce, sprouts & avocado inside. I should've gotten the full size for just a $1 more but I was full. But for those who's like me, I didnt look at the prices so didn't realize it was only $1 difference. Husband got the chicken salad sandwich & enjoyed it thoroughly. They sell chips made in Huntington Beach 'since 1986' - we never knew about it. They relocated 8 years ago & Esther's Place has been around for 29 years. This is impressive as she is still cheerful, friendly & very well put together, and seems to thoroughly enjoy her work. An absolute must visit! Esther's Place is probably the most welcoming and inviting place ever. The owner, Esther, will greet you with a huge smile and take care of you all the way through. The chicken sandwich was also delicious. The chicken had a sesame taste that made it tender and flavorful. Esther's Place is a serves what most of us would consider very normal lunches, but the thing is, that's exactly what I've been looking for in the area and have been having a hard time finding... A regular sandwich. In a time where everyone has a wrap, a sub, a pita or a dutch crust, we have lost many of the quick sandwich places on this side of Huntington Beach/Westminster/Fountain Valley. Esther's has sandwiches, salads, a soup of the day, fruit smoothies and an Esther's Combo creation (soy lemon ground chicken, cilantro brown rice, barley, garbanzo beans, sesame seeds). Sandwiches: Avocado Garden Burger Soy Turkey Chicken Salad Egg Salad Tuna Salad Turkey Breast Grilled Chicken Veggie Delight Salads: Tuna Soy Turkey Tofu Chicken Chinese Chicken Garden Soup of the Day - Different soup each day Egg Salad on Wheat with Avocado - My egg salad sandwich was bulging in the middle, filled with a very generous portion of egg salad to go with tomato, lettuce and avocado spread (additional charge). It was just how I wanted an egg salad sandwich to taste like. Side Salad - This was a basic garden salad with your choice of creamy italian or honey mustard dressings. Soup - I didn't get to try the soup but will need to come back on a Wednesday or Saturday to get the Split Pea. Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie - This banana, watermelon and strawberry mix was a good balance of sweet, creamy and with a little bit of watermelon peeking out and more of the strawberry standing out. It was good. The have nine regular smoothies to choose from and then there are also three premium smoothies. For an extra $.50 you can add in things like bee pollen, spirulina, lecithin, ginseng, soy milk, and protein powder. It is $12 for a half sandwich and smoothie or $13 for a full sandwich and smoothie (comes with soup or salad). Or you can get the sandwich and side combo for $9 for the half and $10 for the full. I don't know of anywhere else where you can get a smoothie and sandwich lunch deal, it's a steal! Esther's is located exactly where I wouldn't have expected it, in the middle of Old World. It is nice to have an excuse through old Germany while taking a weekday lunch break. Parking is easy in the adjacent lot. If you come to Esther's bring some cash, because she only accepts Cash, Venmo and Zelle. She doesn't not take debit or credit cards. There are some seats inside as well as a few tables outside. No wonder Esther's has so many regulars... The prices are very reasonable, she uses fresh ingredients and the sandwiches are stacked! I can't wait to come back. read more

Upon walking in the owner comes to greet you and since it was my first time here, she was able to explain what was popular on the menu to me. I've gotta say, the food DID NOT DISAPPOINT. My Sister and I went to Old World for the day. Someone told us to try Esther's Place. There were very few customers at the time and we both felt rushed to place an order...it was our first time there and we were checking the menu out. Not sure who our person at the register was, but we were asked if we wanted mayo and avocado on our turkey and cheese sandwiches. I said "whatever the sandwich comes with". The soup was delicious, so was the sandwich! Unfortunately, there was about a quarter tsp. of avocado spread across the bread. So, what I thought would be a $12 sandwich x 2, ended up being about $15.00 each. I probably will not order avocado next time. We will hopefully try Esther's again in the future. read more
