I broke a back tooth this week and was in quite a bit of discomfort, so I was incredibly relieved to get an appointment quickly with Esthetic Dentistry. From the moment I called, the experience was exceptional. The receptionist, Myra was wonderful--she went above and beyond to help me with my insurance coverage and made sure I could be seen right away. When I arrived, the entire staff was warm, welcoming, and made me feel comfortable immediately. The office itself is beautiful--modern, clean, and has a calming atmosphere that really helps ease any dental anxiety. I ended up needing a root canal and crown, which can be intimidating, but Dr. Kim made the entire process smooth and reassuring. He took the time to clearly explain everything beforehand and continued to walk me through what he was doing during the procedure. I especially appreciated that he kept me informed on timing--knowing what to expect made a huge difference. On top of that, the billing process was very transparent. Ana clearly explained my insurance and costs upfront, and everything was very reasonable--no surprises. I truly feel lucky to have found this office. I will absolutely be recommending Esthetic Dentistry and Dr. Avanesian to my friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. My experience at this dental office was extremely disappointing. The billing and administrative process, handled by Ana, was disorganized and misleading. I was told to pay out of pocket for procedures that were actually covered by my insurance. When I questioned it, I was met with defensiveness instead of transparency. Patients deserve clear and honest communication about billing, not confusion or pressure. The doctor also raised serious concerns for me. The diagnosis I received seemed exaggerated -- what was described as a minor cavity elsewhere was called a multi-surface cavity here, with unnecessary procedures suggested. After getting a second opinion, I realized that the initial recommendations were not justified. This makes me question the integrity of both the doctor and the billing process. When I voiced my concerns, rather than addressing the issue, they encouraged me to find another dentist -- which was deeply unprofessional and dismissive. I strongly advise others to double-check insurance coverage and always get a second opinion before agreeing to any treatment. This experience left me feeling deceived and disappointed. THIS PLACE HAS A LOT OF GOOD REVIEWS, BUT PLEASE READ THE BAD REVIEWS TOO BECAUSE THEY ARE PRETTY CONSISTENT. I IGNORED THEM, AND ENDED UP GETTING OVERCHARGED. The staff are nice, but they overcharge for things that are not necessary. I just called my insurance and confirmed I paid for services that are optional and were not needed and were not done. I should have had a $0 copay for a deep cleaning. However, I paid $400. Once I saw the actual codes they billed, my insurance confirmed that the codes they billed for were not for a deep cleaning but for a special antibacterial medicine that is not covered and optional. They tried to sell me this antibacterial medicine but I refused it. So that is when I discovered that they tried to bill me for that medicine upfront without really explaining what the codes were and the corresponding services attached to them. I am not going to contest this because it is too much of a headache and I refuse to speak to the billing woman, Anna, again. I feel cheated and disrespected. I am never coming back. I am also carrying my explanation of benefits and corresponding codes everywhere I go now to avoid getting scammed again. This place should be ashamed. We are already living in a bad economy. People are going through enough without needing to worry about getting scammed. read more

I'd rather pay a competitor more money if that means more professional customer service and respect. I don't understand why she's wasting people's time -- especially in a city like L.A. where there are a million other practices offering better customer service. read more

This place has taken care of all my teeth, and prevented anything bad happening in the future. The hygienist is the best one in the world, I kid you not. No one else cleans my teeth besides her. I don't usually leave reviews but this place has left me feeling so terrible and mistreated that I feel people should be cautious of going here considering the reviews are so good but this is the worst I've ever been treated. I work customer service for a non profit so I do get how hard it can be and I usually like to give grace which is why I didn't immediately leave a review. My first negative experience was with my X-ray tech who was rushing and then getting noticeable exasperated with me because "I bit down wrong". I have a small mouth and instead of working with me she sighed in an aggravated manner and forced the plate in. I left that appointment w/ multiple cuts on my gums. I decided to give the benefit of the doubt in this scenario b/c I was one of the last people and can understand just wanting to get home. At that same appointment I was told I would need a deep cleaning. I booked my appointments (over a month out) and left. 3 days before my appointment I get a call letting me know my copay was going to be $525 and that my only payment option is to split it in 2 parts. I ask about insurance and she says this is after insurance and that out of pocket it costs $2000 that's why it was that much after insurance. I tell her I won't be able to afford that and she tells me to just come in for a regular cleaning and talk to my hygienist about other options. During my cleaning my only options given were to do the treatment they said or just the regular cleaning so I left w/ just the regular cleaning. The more I looked into what a deep cleaning is the more it did not make sense. My treatment plan laid out 4 quadrants of root scaling and 4 localized anti microbial agents. The root scaling is apparently what deep cleaning is. That was only costing me $25 per quadrant after insurance. The microbial agent was $100 and from what I read is usually not covered by insurance b/c it's not necessary. It is possible to just get root scaling to at least clean out the pockets. I called the office to get clarification on this to see if I can come back in and just get root scaling and avoid the $400 from the microbial wash. This call is the reason I am bothering to make a review. I spoke to Ana and she was the rudest customer service person I've ever encountered in my life. She immediately tried cutting me off when I was explaining why I was calling and told me that the treatment plan is the treatment plan and that because of have HMO that's why the cost was so high. I told her that I was previously told it was b/c deep cleanings are $2000 and she said she doesn't know why I was told that but they were actually closer to $1000. I was pretty sure she was the same person that told me $2000 but she was already barely letting me talk so I didn't want to argue more. I asked if I can get an explanation of what is covered by insurance and what is out of pocket and she said that that's not possible b/c I have HMO. I explained I just wanted to see what was being covered by insurance and what isn't so I can coordinate to just get done what is covered. She again repeated that because I have HMO I can't know that. I asked for just a summary of how much it would cost out of pocket vs how much my copay is and she said she has no way of knowing even though she had previously said it's around $1000 (or $2000?). I told her I just wanted to clarify what I need done and what can be skipped and that I was feeling forced to do services I don't actually need instead of just sticking to what's necessary and she interrupted me again and basically yelled saying "we can't force you to do anything, that's illegal". I tried to explain that I felt that way b/c I wasn't given more options and she said "when I originally told you your copay was $525 you said it was too much so I gave you the option to come in for a regular cleaning" to which I responded that in that case she is the one that told me it was $2000 w/ out insurance and she just argued w/ me. I asked for a recording of that call and have yet to receive it. I feel so frustrated b/c I just want to get done a treatment that I need for my health but I feel like they are focusing more on the money they can get out of me. The amount of times she mentioned the fact that I had an hmo felt like she was trying the shame me for having "cheaper" insurance. Now I have to change dentist and wait to get an appointment somewhere else, so a necessary treatment for my health will be pushed months out. I feel like they take advantage of peoples lack of knowledge on dentistry to push gimmicky services by tricking people into believing it's a part of a necessary treatment. I don't know if it's just Ana that operates this way or the whole practice but it is incredibly messed up read more

I've always been skeptical of dental offices. The majority of the time they don't have good customer service and the office is not run well. Esthetic Dentistry is exactly what I look for in a dental facility. Every visit comes with world class treatment. The entire staff knows me by name and greets me with a smile. They are super clean and incredibly organized. Before doing any work on me, they provided a full consultation to let me know exactly what treatments I needed and also gave me a thorough cost breakdown - leaving the choice completely up to me where and when I wanted to start. I hate to write this review as the dentist and the girl who did my x-rays were exceptional and I don't ever write bad reviews. However, Anna is a nightmare and future patients should be warned. I had read reviews warning about this same issue, but since the dentist had good reviews for being gentle, I went anyway. While in the waiting area I can hear Anna arguing with a patient on the phone regarding charges that he was not aware of that were billed to his insurance. I didn't like the way she was handling the situation, but I could only hear one side of the conversation. I stuck around because I was in severe pain and needed it handled as soon as possible. After the exam, Anna told me she'd put in for an authorization for root canal and call me in 2 weeks, which she did. She said "good news", the authorization was approved and she could schedule me 2 days later. She then says "I'm not sure if I mentioned the cost of $525 that insurance does not cover" No she didn't mention it and I just want a root canal, not whatever she was trying to sell me. She says that's not an option and either I pay or she can cancel my authorization for root canal. I ask her to cancel and look for another dentist. I called back a few days later to ask for my x-rays and they tell me I can pay for them over the phone. I was so upset that she strung me along for 2 weeks in pain then surprised me with a hidden cost and now she wants me to pay for x-rays that my insurance already paid for. All of a sudden her fake sweet talk switched to a spiteful rude tone, talking over me, raising her voice and she proceeds to tell me that it's not her fault the insurance denied my claim for the service that she can't explain and that she did me a favor by putting in for an authorization. A favor? I believe that is her job and getting authorizations approved is how they get paid. She hangs up on me very rudely. I call my insurance because it's suspicious that she wasn't sure if she mentioned the $500 fee, which means she knew it wasn't covered just forgot to let me about it. Sure enough, my insurance confirmed that I have not had any authorizations denied ever and the only authorization Anna put in was for a root canal that was approved. So not only is she rude, but she is trying to scam patients and she is a LIAR. Stay away!!!! There are way too many good dentists in Glendale that hire professional staff that know how to deal with clients. Anna either has no idea what she's doing or she gets a kick out of messing with people and trying to screw them while they are vulnerable. read more

The staff could not have been more accommodating, friendly and professional. The entire office was very up-to-date with modern equipment and it has such a pleasant environment. I have been lucky enough to interact with both Dr.A and few staff members. All have shown extreme professionalism and very conscious of all my concerns. Very dishonest office. We went on medicare recently and picked this office due to reviews. 1) They recommended a deep cleaning (no cost) with optional chemicals (bacteria Decontamination - $1,500). After some research and speaking to a lifelong Dentist friend, I called and said to do the cleaning without the chemicals. 2) They then said, btw there is a co-payment of about $800 (lie #1) with deep cleaning. 3) This is the opposite of what they had previously told me. I called the office and spoke to Anna (something like that), who said she was the office manager. When I confronted her with the fact that her office (in writing) and Delta Dental said there was no copayment; she changed her story again and said it was a different chemical (not a copayment - Arestin) that they were charging me for. (Lie # 2). She said they won't do the deep cleaning without the "optional" add-on. Clearly they defraud everyone; especially their elderly patients with "non-optional/optional" payments to make more than what medicare pays them. AND 4) when Delta Dental called her - she dropped the cost from the $800 quoted to me to $400 (Lie #3). Even though they appear to be competent dentists; they are con-men and thieves. If they accepted Medicare patients; they should go by the rules!! Stealing from the elderly is dispicable!!! read more

Though I am an adult, I am in fact an idiot. I stayed away from the dentist for over 10 years. As a result my mouth and teeth are in pretty bad shape. Along my path to dental health I've had to have root canals before. Coming to doctor Kim however, changed everything. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing he and his staff are. This review is long over due as my family and I have been clients at this facility approximately 7 years. From Ortho needs to general dentistry they have done it all for us. Their customer service is outstanding. Ana is great and is always my go to person. My children visit without me being present and I am comfortable knowing she will be there to assist with any questions, concerns or needs. The facility is modern, well kept and very clean. Dr. Avanesian has a great personality toward his clients. Scheduling and last minute appointments are accommodated upon availability.
