On our last night the area visiting family, we were supposed to have dinner with long (l-o-n-g) time friends but they had to cancel at the last hour. So we checked locally and discovered a new (to us) Greek restaurant. My wife and I arrived about 7:00 PM on Thursday, after having made an online reservation. When we arrived, plenty of open booths , so we were seated and brought menus. Any new Greek place we must try their Spanakopita so we ordered one to split. We also decided to split a Greek Salad and a Moussaka. Our Spanakopita came quickly. We divided it and tested. Hmm. Not bad, but not what we're used to having. We actually prefer more filo than here. Her salad came and we divided part of it also. It was crisp, cold and yummy. After a bit my Moussaka arrived. To our surprise it came in a custard bowl and looked like a Shepherd's Pie. Unusual since we've always been served Moussaka in squares like a Lasagna. It was fantastic, a perfect blend of meat and vegetables. Of course next we needed dessert. My wife couldn't decide on the Baklava Cheesecake or the Caramel Cheesecake, so she got both! I liked the Caramel but so sweet I had to drink water with it. Good food, nice ambiance. Service a bit slow and told us they did have a military discount, but somehow forgot to use it. The food was perfect! It was perfectly seasoned on every side and I LOVE any type of meat that is well seasoned and not salty. I got my lamb chops well done and they were so juicy! My Husband got his lamb chops medium well and they were perfect too. I savored every bite of it! The steamed broccoli was also seasoned very well and they were not too soft and not too hard either. The Baklava sundae was also a very good amount. Me and someone else shared the dessert and it was fulfilling. (Not pictured) The coffee, cheesecake, hummus dip and more entrees ordered. - The coffee was very strong and bitter. - The cheesecake was really good and all the different types & flavors of the drizzle was good too. - The hummus and pita bread was very good as well! Great taste to the hummus! The ambiance was calm, modern, yet elegant and classy! The service was also top notch. I do like that you have to reserve, because that makes the experience more personal and I loved that part about it! We went to the restaurant after our church service on Sunday around 2PM and when we were leaving, there was just one other party there, that had a reservation but it was so quiet, you would not have been able to tell. If you like something quiet and intimate, this is the place! The restrooms were very clean and beautiful as well. It did not smell very well so possibly some air fresheners would be helpful, but overall, the good outweighed the bad. I've heard some good things about this place, so I agreed to meet some friends here for dinner. Well, I hit the place around 6 pm on a weeknight, and it was mostly empty. The place itself looked cozy...very woodsy, with lotsa comfy booths. However, there wasn't any music overhead, so the place felt a bit barren...lackluster. I've been craving Spanakopita for awhile now, so I was highly anticipating this! Well, sadly, it was probably the worst version I've ever had...worse than the ones I've gotten from grocery stores. The taste was totally off (for me, at least)...in that it was a mix of bitter and bland. The worst part? The pastry part was hardly there!! It was a very odd presentation of Spanakopita...in that it wasn't even a fully enveloped triangle...which didn't make sense to me. I mean, isn't a triangle the hallmark of a Spanakopita? Plus didn't get the weird wavy-crusty presentation overall. Was it supposed to be fancy...or did they just mess up?? Looked NOTHING like the other Spanakopita pictures here on Yelp. Anyway, it was just a minimal dose of pastry, too heavy with Spinach...and not a great flavor. Just very odd...and just very, very bad...priced at 8 bucks! Honestly, I wasn't really craving Souvlaki or anything Greek (aside from the Spanakopita), so I just ordered their Bolognese. Well, again, very disappointed with the flavor. Just flat...utterly tasteless! OMG...I expected so much more than this, given the high ratings here. I didn't want to be a "Debbie Downer" with the girls by expressing my true feelings for this appetizer lol, but downplayed it by saying it was just very "different"...but yeah, I was NOT a fan of their Spanakopita. Guess the only thing I enjoyed was their Mediterranean Mule...very tasty and strong. Service was just passable (if even that?). Our waiter barely checked up on us. Also, might mention that despite the fact that it was a small group of gals, the waiter botched up an order...and one of the girls had to wait extra 10-15 minutes for her corrected meal. Noone raved about the meal either...and I sensed that everyone felt that their meals were barely good...if even that. Also, given how bad the foods were, I felt everything was way overpriced for what it was. At least the drink and the conversation was good?? Maybe it was an off night, but I just expected more from this highly rated place. Obviously, I don't think I'll be making any more trips over here. read more

All of the food here is delicious! Prompted by restaurant week, my husband and I went out for date night (which this place is perfect for!) Our server, Peter, took great care of us, from answering all of our questions to recommending a tasty Greek wine for our meal. We dined early so we had the place to ourselves and the service was prompt, but not at all rushed, leaving us plenty of time to enjoy the food, drink , and each other's company. Had another good date night with my husband. We love Greek food! We haven't found many Greek cuisine places in Charlotte with a great sit down eating experience. We finally got to drive out to Estia's Kouzina on a Saturday night and it was worth it. First, it is very difficult to find affordable places that have great calamari, Estia's nailed it! The Lamb Chop comes in 4 pieces and I had Rice Pilaf with it. Lamb Chops were tender and juicy . Moussaka tasted great but we wished it came in a larger portion. Margarita and Mediterranean Mule was very tasty, the bartender did their thing on those. We are definitely coming back! This is a gorgeous restaurant with a nice patio - I don't understand why it wasn't busier! The wine list is thoughtful and has some very unique selections. We came here for brunch on a day trip to Charlotte knowing we had to eat dinner early. The menu had some really good sounding items we wanted to try but we have this "buffet guilt". When we go places that are smaller businesses and they have a buffet, we feel like we have to eat it because we don't want the food to go to waste. Not saying that we would eat at the buffet if it didn't look good, because we wouldn't. But if it looks like it could be good, we are obligated to do it by guilt. It's weird. Anyway so obviously we had the buffet. They had a lot of items but an overwhelming amount. I wish we had taken pics of the buffet itself. I tried the harissa roast beef, rotisserie chicken, broccolini, salad, shrimp and grits, fingerlings, bread pudding and a white chocolate chip cookie. We also ordered pita and cucumber with tzatziki. The roast beef was good, I wish I had a little more harissa. The rotisserie chicken was moist. The broccolini was flavored well but a little tough to eat, I think it's just holding something like that in a heated chafer, it tends to happen. The shrimp and grits were surprisingly not rubbery or dried out. Not very flavorful (we lived in Charleston for some years) but not bad. The fingerlings were OK, cooked all right but not very flavorful. Holding them in a chafer also kind steamed them a bit. Better when dipped in tzatziki. The bread putting was good, standard bread putting. The white chocolate chip cookies were all over baked but the over baked flavor went well as a kind of nuttiness with the white chocolate. The pita was excellent, and also like the tzatziki. They make their own pita which is pretty impressive. The server said I could probably buy some but maybe some other time. There were also scrambled eggs, bacon and other pastries as well as freshly cut fruit. If we have the opportunity will definitely try the regular menu. read more

The food at this place is terrible. Save your money and go somewhere else. I had been looking forward to going to this restaurant for a while. I would never go back. To start off there was a large roach in the hallway near the bathroom. It was dead thank goodness but not the way to start off. The women's bathroom has an overpowering sewer gas smell. It smells strongly of feces. The bathroom was clean so it was not from someone not flushing the toilet. I ordered a Gyro platter that comes with fries. The fries were cold and no salt on them. There was no salt on the table either. They also tasted like they sat for a long time before they served them to me.. I ordered the lamb gyro platter. It came with 3 small 1/2 slices of onion, 1pita, 6 small pieces of tomato, and some horrible chopped roast meat. It was terrible. I couldn't eat it. I got the appetizer platter as well. The lamb meatballs were cold, tasteless and hard. The spanakopita was really good and I would recommend that. The dolmades were ice cold, sour and only had rice in them. Yuck! You have to ask for them to be warmed. But the waitress never said anything so I wouldn't know that. My friend got the spread platter and the hummus was awful. The spicy feta was good. The waitress was Jackie. She was good, friendly and tried to make the meal end well with some fried donuts. I didn't like them either. The honey and spices were overwhelming. It would have been nice to have a dessert plate too so honey didn't drip all over the table and my hand as I tried to get one off the plate. Overall, the food was awful. It was an expensive meal for bad quality food that was cold. I had a better experience at Arby's in Belmont. My friend had a cocktail that she said was delicious with an apple and caramel flavor. Disappointed overall. Quite an attractive restaurant but food quite uninspiring. Should have been better- maybe recipes lacking or food preparation skills lacking. Service was friendly. Was there on a moderately busy Saturday evening- four of us. It wasn't too late (6:30 pm) but told they were short on remaining servings of moussaka. Three of us were planning on ordering but one needed to switch, so ordered pastitsio instead. Too bad since the moussaka was definitely the far better dish. The pastitsio was bought out less than lukewarm so besides being rather mediocre in quality, wasn't hot either. No one came by until the end of the meal so we couldn't even ask for it to be reheated. I tasted one of the chicken gyros. A gyro in a fast food restaurant would have been much better. Several chunks of chicken, a flavorless tzatziki sauce, no onions etc. The only positive there was that the accompanying french fries were very good. One of the many things I've been searching for in Utah is authentic Greek food, so when I was vacationing in NC, this was at the top of my list. The restaurant was spacious -- social distancing was not an issue here. The ambiance was pretty high end, to the extent that I wish I had dressed a tiny bit nicer, but didn't feel too out of place in what I was wearing. Our server paid very close attention to our needs and made excellent recommendations (emphasis on the zucchini chips -- order them, you will not be sorry). The food is everything I had hoped it would be. My one regret was not being able to try all the things I wanted to. Alas, my stomach is only so big. My hands down favorite was their octopus. The music was too loud for a restaurant. Honestly me and my family left after we used the bathroom. The facility had an extremely pungent order of sewage. It knocked us in the face as soon as we walked through the door. I cannot comment on food because I wasn't going to eat and smell sewage at the same time. I love Greek cuisine so when I discovered Estia's I couldn't wait to try it. I went one night with a friend and was very pleased. There is ample parking in the lot and the front door is just steps away from the lot. Inside they have a plentitude of booths and even a separate room for special events. We were seated right away. I ordered the Avgolemono soup (chicken / lemon soup) and it was very good. Just the right amount of meat, broth and rice and the lemon was not overpowering. I also had a side salad and the Mousaka and they were both delicious. My friend had a side salad and the Pastitsio and the pasta was tender and the saucer very flavorful. It was a bit on the pricier side at $58 for two people but I understood that this was more of a mid-range dining experience. The service was a tad slower than I would like and for the weeknight crowd I would suggest that the server just walk by the table a little more frequently. Otherwise I plan to go again. read more

One day my wife wanted to check out this Greek restaurant down the street in Belmont and ask if I wanted to check it out as well and was like why not. I've been to plenty of Greek restaurants before but this by far is the best one yet. Saturday night we made our way down and upon entering we were greeted promptly with a smile and we didn't wait long at all to be seated. His name escapes me but we had an authentic Greek server who helped us with what was his favorite on the menu. I ordered an appetizer of octopus which came in huge chunks and was very good and I could've ordered another one. For my main dish I had the pasta and lamb meatballs and my wife had the snapper with broccoli and rice. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her meal and my pasta and lamb was spectacular and I will be getting this meal again on my next trip to this spot. First time trying Estias and was overall, pretty pleased! I was really excited to try the gigantes, since they seem to be the only Mediterranean restaurant within 30 miles that has them (even if just for a special) and I was not disappointed!
