We came here for HH on our first night. Personally, I wouldn't come during the normal hours because their menu can get pretty pricey but their HH deals are pretty good! One star for location - it is right on the beach, ocean view, very romantic; one for the oysters - they were delicious, but way too expensive - $4 each; and one star for the sautéed wild mushrooms, which were fabulous, but only a side dish. The crab roll that we ordered cost $20 and was absolutely flavourless. The fried potstickers with truffle mushrooms sounded very fancy, but did not taste good. They were too dry and the truffles did not go with it. The menu was small and the choices were limited. I ordered an apple martini and it was nice, so I had seconds. But overall, the place did not inspire to come back for more. I would suggest the chef to expand the menu and include more options. Make an entree out of wild mushrooms. My husband and I had lunch here today. He had the grilled octopus and I had two maki. Everything was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the beach. Our server was excellent but the food was very slow to come out. Worth the wait, but this is definitely not the place if you are in a rush. Also- you must try the dessert. Compared to our previous tomahawk experience at Smith and Wollensky, this portion was definitely smaller. It is made for two people and no more! It was cooked to perfection and had good flavor. It was enjoyable to sample the three different sauces it came with. Service: They definitely lost me here. It was not busy, not in the slightest. We waited almost ten minutes to be seated although we had a reservation. No hostess was in sight! After we were finally seated, it took another ten for our server to show up at our table. He was absent much of the evening and we had to ask multiple times for sauce or drinks. That part definitely dampened our evening. Restaurant ambiance: First, it was a our four year anniversary. We've been to a few other places that make it a bit special. For example, Capital Grille will decorate the table and put together a beautiful dessert tray! While the view was nice, I wouldn't say it was GREAT! You're basically watching families play on the sand. I would also say it lacked vibe setting music. I would maybe copy the mood set at places like Rooftop in Fort Lauderdale that play soft music in the background. Overall, I do not think we will be back. Dinner with a view! This place is perfect if you want to go out for dinner but not dine inside due to Covid concerns. They have a huge outdoor seating area overlooking the beach. We ordered the Chef's tasting menu to get a taste of many of their popular items. This was more than enough food for 2 people. We both left stuffed! My favorite was the Black cod marinated with yuzu miso. The pork dumplings with truffle sauce was also delicious. I would've given this place 5 stars but service was slooooow. Restaurant was perfect for the date night dinner we had planned. We had a nice outdoor table facing the beach with a nice breeze in the air. Started out with a cocktail, the Rita Okinawa which was essentially a margarita on the rocks. It was a little watered down but good. The pork dumpling for the appetizer was delicious, definitely recommend. For my main, had the scallops and a side of the parm fries. Portion is just the right size and they were perfectly cooked! We had to have dessert and I selected the yoghurt almond cake with the caramel ice cream, which was rich sweet and perfectly balanced. It was a great end to our meal. I found this place to be a high scale restaurant. The attention to details in a restaurant such as being clean and deliver a service with elegance makes the whole experience very pleasant. All the staff were well trained to be careful on not to speak over the food, on making sure the utensils were shiny clean, not to touch the plates from the inside, making sure the glasses did not have marks etc... this is something I pay close attention and I can tell this place had it!! When this place was called HYD I would make sure to stop by a few times a year during business trips to FL. Its been a year and now I'm a FL resident and was excited to make this place a regular spot, the views are fenomenal! Given my HYDE expectations I was excited for tasty drinks and amazing Asian fusion sálads. NOW this spot is called ETARU a Japanese fusion restaurant with fries? I digress... after a quick sit down, I ordered Via the QR code crunchy spicy tuna roll and the shishito peppers. Mistake #1, my shishito peppers never got here. I got a sad/armature tuna roll with low quality fish and no sauce or trimmings, I sent it back &!re-requested my shishito peppers. A little while later I received the full order including peppers and sushi.. the first bite was potent. I just experienced the spiciest shishitos I've ever had (and I love spicy) they were absolutely shockingly spicy. I called the waiter who seems to "know" they were spicy and was keen to take them back (y not warn me?). I ordered replacement truffle fries, confused about the menu but whatever... Tried the tuna roll... with the last 2 tastebuds I had left, I rate them a C- I could get better sushi at an NYC deli. For $16 not worth it. The fries looked fabulous, but after the initial layer of truffle-oil sprinkled cheese they tasted like MCDonalds fries minus the salt. I ate them all cause I was hungry from the sad sushi roll. The drink order was the Moscow mule and given the food/ and quality of food the bartender should be promoted for the amazing flavor and the portions. The drink was so good I took my time To write this review. His COCKTAIL concoction 9 out of 10. Will only ever return for this one drink. They are definitely not ready to receive the volume of public you expect from an "in " place in Florida, servers and cooks wearing chinmasks doesn't give a good feeling during this time where you expect safety to be a must, bad experience from the beginning, the valet received us with a dry "we are full" and send me to the valet at the hotel next door where as soon as I said I was referred by the restaurant they refused to give me service, all this time my family was already in the restaurant for 30 min, at my arrival I had to wait 30 more minutes for a drink, our server was friendly but incompetent. Excellent food and amazing service. Tried to eat outside an the beautiful patio overlooking the beach but due to the windy and rainy weather we moved inside. The hostess, servers and managers immediately found us a table and accommodated our request. Our server was amazing! He was knowledgeable of the menu, as this was our first time here. We asked him many questions in ingredients, the preparation and the accompaniments. Even though my steak came out a little too done, the manager immediately came over to apologize and they prepared another ribeye. The lamb chops were awesome according to my hubby. The spicy sauce that came with the chops was delicious. When my corrected steak came out it was perfect. Juicy, tender and flavorful. I'm not a mayo person but the mayo truffle sauce that comes with the fries was amazing too. Thank you Cesar for picking up our dessert and drinks (for the mistake on the steak). It was very nice meeting you. When a manager comes over to apologize for a mistake that's a restaurant that we will go back again. He cares for his customers. Overall, an excellent experience. I had the most horrific experience in this place. The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is for their servers and okay food. We stayed at Sian next door and after enjoying morning at the beach I walk in to Etaru with two kids on a Sunday, around noon. I am greeted by what appears to be a hostess. She asked if I had a reservation which I didn't then she moved on to the people that came after me who had reservations so I waited until she was done with them. She comes back with another lady(employee) with her who then shows me the menu and says that it's a $70 brunch and we don't offer a la carte menu. It's better if you go to our beach bar. I agreed, I needed to eat and feed my children so I can catch a flight home later. We go downstairs sit at the table, get the menu and for the next 10-15 minutes no service. Understandably, it's Sunday and lunch time, bar area was packed. I go back up to the hostess stand and let them know that I can't wait for the service at the beach bar and I would like to get a table at Etaru. She kept on insisting that I need to go back to the beach bar. After I firmly told her that I was not going back to the beach bar they agreed to sit me down. I asked for the table by the water so we can have a little breeze from the water plus a nice view, but all of a sudden that area got closed off according to her. There were plenty of tables to the left, completely in the shade, but they chose to give me a table directly in the sun. As I walked to our table I asked them why do I feel like I have to beg to get a table here, totally ignored me and one of them walked away as the other lady seated us down and clearly saw how the sun was right in our faces. 5 minutes later when it became unbearable to seat there under the sun, it felt like we were sitting in the oven I came up to them again and asked to change our spot for indoors since they can't find us a decent table outside where we can enjoy our food and not feel like we are roasting. Do you think I heard even one apology from them during this whole ordeal, NO, I didn't. One of them walked us to our indoor table and as she walked away she blurted" You are welcome!" Excuse me, did I have to thank you for belittling my family and I, putting me through hell just to get seated???? I think her job description need to be reinforced to her by her management. I believe she got it all wrong! You don't make you customers feel miserable!!! You welcome them and try to accommodate their wishes. If it wasn't for my hungry kids and our time constraints I'd never give them my business. On the other note, servers were very nice and accommodating, buffet food was okay, good variety of food. I ordered octopus as my entree and enjoyed it a lot. This place left very bitter taste in my mouth, especially, one of the ladies. I've never experienced anything like this at any other establishments. What could of been an enjoyable experience with my kids turned into a nightmare because of one person who doesn't know how to do her job and has zero social skills. read more

OMG!!!! Etaru is a hidden gem! They are located right on the beach in Hallandale. The parking is valet and cost $13 when you eat at Etaru. We went for their Sunday brunch which was phenomenal for many reasons. All you can eat and all you can drink! The brunch is $65 and includes a cocktail to start and unlimited wine and rosé after that. When I say unlimited I mean unlimited! My glass was NEVER empty. Then they serve you a plethora of appetizers, that you can just keep them coming and order more and more of whatever you desire. Some of the apps include salads, dumplings, corn, fried chicken, oysters, sashimi, and edamame. The oysters and sashimi is limited to one surviving. So if you would like to order more, it's $6 per oyster and $10 for additional sashimi. Then you have to choose 1 entree, I had the teriyaki salmon which was delicious! Lastly, dessert!! They serve you a platter of different desserts, which include 3 ice creams, lava cake, mango cake, seasonal fruits, and more. The waterfront view was amazing and you are literally steps from the beach. The service was top notch and I loved that I did not feel rushed. The staff was super friendly and attentive. We dined for about 4 hours with all the food we had to try. The place was clean and the ambiance was lovely. Definitely coming back because it's SOOOOO WORTH IT! Definitely a treat to come here and dine! It's a fun way to share a lot of different things and the ambiance is fancy. I had to take off a star cause I went with a party of 6 on Christmas Eve and even though it was not that busy, the service was very slow. They were slow to take orders and slow to bring out food. A side note, if you're here for dinner, the tables are lit by small tabletop lamps but our's ran out of battery apparently so they switched it for a new one...which also died and the next one did too. 4 lamps later, we just sat with half our table dark. Luckily we were at dessert by then cause without the little lights, you really can't see your food very well. Those things aside, the food itself was quite good. Luckily I was introduced to ETARU through a Yelp event so I knew I had to come back and get the full experience. It didn't disappoint. ETARU is a Japanese robatayaki style restaurant which means most things are cooked on a BBQ grill. They have a beautiful open kitchen with the grill on the 2nd floor inside the main dining room. You can sit right in front of the glass as bar seating on these comfy low chairs or sit in the regular dining tables. There are also many tables on the terrace outside. I'm sure during the day it is quite a sight to see as it is beachfront location. There are also sofa chair style table for just lounging and getting a drink. For food: Japanese Fried Chicken with Yuzu Mayo - it's airy and light. Not a lot of breading and the chicken inside is still very tender and juicy. The mayo pairing is refreshing and delicious. 12oz Prime Ribeye - Meat was perfectly medium rare and glazed with a semi sweet little and savory flavor. Tiger Prawns - Buttery rich flavor on these replicas huge shrimp on skewers. I don't normally like shrimp but this was very good. Wagyu Beef Tartare with Ponzu Pearls - One of my favorites! The different textures in one bite made my mouth very happy. Broccolini with Miso Dressing - Crisp and savory Sashimi Platter - We had the 5 piece selected and it was tuna, salmon, yellowtail, red snapper? And toro... That was soft like buttahhhhh!! Black Kampachi Maki Roll - Clean yummy tastes Salmon Teriyaki - Not fishy at all and was very good! Scallops with Yuzu Mayo - So tender!!! The dollop of yuzu added a good compliment Sweet Corn with Wasabi Lime Butter - A bit in the spicy side and you'll have to gnaw at it but it's fun. All 3 desserts I tried were wonderful. Not super sweet and full of fresh fruit! I would come here just for sweets.
