I'm currently about 8 months into electrolysis hair removal with Etty. It works if you stick with it and are consistent. I come just about every month, and for that reason am seeing great results. Because I have fair hair, laser didn't really work for me. Electrolysis is more targeted and seems to do a better job of getting rid of all of the hair. I had some hormonal hair growth that I didn't like and that I was constantly having to shave. At this point, I don't even notice it growing back between appointments and the appointment time is getting less and less. I'm not surprised no one has ever reviewed Etty. She's sort of like the hidden gem of Soho. Her Suite in Soho is small -- just 1.5 rooms. And it's no frills. You're going in to get waxed, not a full spa day. But it's clean, and fast, and she is an EXTREMELY Pleasant Trinidadian woman. Her prices are amazing ($20 for Bikini, $12 for underarm) and she goes in pretty much as far as you want and does below the belly button strip all for the $20 price. She sends Christmas cards to all of her customers as well, so nice! Call to make an appt, she doesn't do walk ins, and you'll probably have to leave a message, but she'll get back to you ASAP. Oh and it hurts -- this isn't some fancy wax -- but honestly, I prefer this to the sugar wax which I find to be just as painful, if not worse because it's so hot and thick that it burns. She charges a fraction of the price to where I originally started going. As I go along, I tend to learn more about electrolysis in my spare time. That being said, when I first met her she was willing and very knowledgeable with answering any questions I had about the process (pre and post treatment). I specifically wanted to speed up my sessions because I didn't intend on remaining in NYC for very long. I wanted the hair gone; where I am going I will not be able to maintain it for at least 3 months. For that reason I needed to know what I would expect. If you have any concerns she encourages you call her. She has always gotten back to me in a timely manner, and is willing to go the extra mile for her clientele. There have been times I need to switch my time slot, I'm running late, or I forget to take some makeup wipes with me and she accommodates me with no issue. You are made to feel at ease in the chair while she swiftly works her magic. Conversations are natural and free flowing. I can honestly say I can talk to her about anything because I am in a judgement free zone. Added benefit that her office always smells amazing and she has chocolate. i have agonized about leaving a negative review for months. I hate to hurt anyone's business. But my experience was scarring. Literally. I have had electrolysis in many places for the past 25 years. I am middle aged and have had facial hair since I was a teen. This is the first time I have had scarring but it is bad. Etty El Jammel is sweet and means well but I was left with terrible burns on my upper lip and the scars remain present 6 months later. I definitely felt a lot of heat during the procedure but I did not realize until later just how bad it was. I am not a novice and so I had hoped this would mean a little extra discomfort but nothing long lasting. No such luck. I have brown shadows that seem permanent. So sad and so don't want to say this. She gives you a fresh ziplock bag of ice to cool the area before she starts zapping, she puts neosporin cream on when you're done ( the kind that soaks in, not the kind that sits on top of your skin), and if she has been working on your face (and she has worked on mine!), she'll use a special lotion at the end to treat your skin and cover up the redness.
