After all these years I always find myself gravitating back to him, knowing that I can't go wrong here :) A few months ago I wanted to donate 10-12 inches of hair to Locks of Love, naturally I was a bit nervous cutting my hair short since I rocked super long hair for so long. Eugene did a fantastic job, and now that my hair is long again I plan on going back for another cut. Eugene and his adorable wife Jessie own a very clean, bright and airy salon. They really listen to what you want, and he doesn't take off more than what you specify (which happens A LOT with other salons). Came here over the weekend to get my hair cut and colored. Somehow, I forgot to get my hair cut last month so I ended up behind by an extra month - All that extra hair! I was in and out of there in 90 minutes. This is a lot longer than I'd like to spend in a hair salon, but, I've yet to find a hair salon in Southern California that can cut, style, and color in under 45-60 minutes like I had at Cleo Beauty Salon in Arizona. Also, the prices here are a bit higher than you'd expect from a place like in Arizona (I paid $90 in total including tip back in Phoenix). Here, the base cut and color is $95, and then I threw in a generous tip in light of hte holidays, so the total came to around $140. Don't let this deter you from coming here, just understand that you will not likely find Arizona pricing in this part of California - SoCal is notorious for high cost of living, and that includes hair cuts. Wow, I am the absolute worst. I just realized that I had forgotten to review the lovely work done by BOTH Eugene and Jessie... 9 months ago. At that time, I wanted to do something different and go lighter with my hair instead of opting for a digital perm again. After consulting with Jessie, I decided to get a bayalage - my first time getting my hair professionally colored! Jessie brought out this book of different hair colors and we decided how light to go. Since it was my first time, I remember the process taking so much longer than I expected. But Eugene and Jessie offered magazines and coffee which helped pass the time. Next, came a cut by Eugene! As before, I was impressed with how quick he is with scissors - he makes it look so easy. The finishing touch was curling my hair and making it look fantastic! My MO is hair that's easy to take care of. I prefer styles that I can just wash and go since I don't like to deal with tons of product or heat tools. Both Jessie and Eugene are understanding of that and keep that in mind when they work on my hair.. I simply cannot stress how much I appreciate that! They make an amazing team, along with their assistant. The only thing was, I wasn't expecting the price of the bayalage to be so steep. My wallet was crying a little after. Solid 5/5!! I went here because I wanted to try out a salon nearby the workplace. I went to Eugene's about 4 years prior and I wasn't quite satisfied with my digital perm back then, maybe because I asked for something that didn't look as good on my face shape/features. But I wanted to support a small business and so here I am again. Long story short, I'm so glad I gave them another chance! Location: located at the edge of a shopping mall, pretty close to ranch 99, Bank of America, and numerous food and tea shops are. Parking is ample. Salon service and staff: salon staff are very kind and gave me a dry cut and digital perm (about ~2 hrs) which was done quite meticulously. You can tell that they really love and care about their work, and make sure you are satisfied with your new look. Total is definitely a little expensive compared to other salons I have been at for the past years, but is worth it because of the skill and detail oriented work they do! Digital perms are understandably damaging to the hair, and I usually come out of the salon with more frizz than prior to the service. But this time, I left with the softest curls. 100% satisfied, and will be coming back. Thank you for making my hair feel so pretty! :) read more

Decided my hair was too heavy and I needed to thin it out. I made an appointment at 4:45 on the same day and they did a wonderful job! I was greeted in the front where they asked what I was thinking of getting done. I told them I wanted to have a straight bottom and also to thin everything out however without layers. I want the illusion of everything the same length. I also told them that since my hair is ash color I wash it with purple shampoo often and when I do, I have to put oils and product to help keep it soft. They washed my hair for me and added the oils that I needed and also suggested that I can try hair treatments at home instead of conditioner! Eugene cut my hair and removed so much of the bulk! It felt so nice afterwards! He also made the bottom all one length and the illusion of all the hair being the same length. Exactly what I wanted! I am very happy with my visit! read more

This is still the only place i trust with my hair! Eugene has always given me amazingg haircuts! He is the best hairstylist i've ever been to! I've tried a few other places that had good ratings on yelp but i regretted all of them and always came back to Eugene. In addition to his haircutting skills, the hairwashing service and here is wonderful. The people who wash your hair keep your face dry by putting a towel "cone" on your face which is really cool and something i don't see at other salons! 45 dollars total for wash/cut/style I got Jessie and she was really sweet. The salon itself is really clean which I appreciate. My hair was a hot mess and Jessie took her time with me. I didn't feel rushed at all. She asked a lot of questions about what I wanted specifically so I felt like I was in good hands. She did exactly what I asked for and did not cut off more than I wanted. It is a bit pricey for a haircut but it's really hard to find hairdressers that I trust, so I am willing to pay more to be sure that I will get the haircut that I wanted. Still my fave hair salon and stylist. Hands down. Jessie is one talented stylist and a down to earth person as well. She is so accommodating and so nice. You can tell she genuinely cares about you and what YOU like. Just got done with a natural ombré with her and I couldn't be more pleased. I've done ombré before at a different salon (a super professional salon mind you..) and I had to dye it back a few months later cause I looked like Tony the Tiger. I showed jessie a few pictures and briefly described what I wanted and what I wanted to avoid. 3 hours later...my hair is summer ready and I'm so happy. She's not expensive either..color is $95 each time for a simple color. The ombré this time was double..so $190. That's still significantly cheaper than what I paid for last time. She even gave me a little bottle of leave in treatment for me to use at home. I can't emphasize enough how happy I am with her. I've been through my fair share of stylists. I've been coming to Eugene's since 6th grade, and neither of them have aged a single day. I have had my hair done before by Eugene for prom and it was absolutely beautiful! It lasted the whole night and it didn't really loosen up as the night went on. When I do my own hair it usually does so it was really nice to see how long lasting my curls were! I have also gotten a balayage by Eugene as well and it was and still is wonderful. Eugene and his wife helped and recommended color treatment products for my hair and were very patient with my whole learning process!! O.M.G! I decided to try this place out today because my hair dresser was unavailable and I absolutely love my haircut by Jessie! I can't believe as a Hacienda Hts. native I had not come here earlier. My first impression upon entering the salon was that it's very clean and well managed. All 3 stylists had customers they were working on but I did not have to wait long before being attended to. I had an appointment at 4:45 and was seated to get my hair shampoo'd by 4:50. As for my actual hair cut, Jessie did a great job. She asked me the texture I wanted and proceeded to straighten my hair before cutting. My normal hair dresser would normally cut my hair dry but Jessie took it to a whole new level! Jessie moved quickly but meticulously. When she was done, she even curled my hair for me. I really enjoyed my experience here and cannot stop touching my hair :) it looks like I have found a new hair salon for me to frequent. Alright, so I've never really had much experience with being initially and fully satisfied but Eugene definitely was the first for me! I came in on a Wednesday and there was no one else but Eugene and his assistant. He lead me through the processes, prices, and gave me advice about my decision. He was very professional. Although it took a long time to do my hair and Eugene had other customers, his assistant and him always came back to me, they managed their time very well accordingly. Sometimes I had misgivings in the middle of the process because it didn't look as if it was going to turn out the way I liked, however I should've given Eugene the benefit of the doubt. The place is really nice and clean, never hot or cold. They will wash your hair before cutting, Eugene will cut your hair according to your liking, he will make sure every little detail is done right. After the first cut, there will be another wash. Then, he will check with the final cut to make sure your hair is up to your standards. I also love the products they sell here too, hair wax, hair sprays, you need something, just ask. I think I may have found my local hairdresser.... Sometimes they say the best place is right in your backyard. I've always looked at the hip and happenin places for the best hairdressers. Little did I know that this store would be the place I would go back to. I come by this plaza all the time since it's in the same courtyard as Dumpling Master, the nail salon and my travel agent. I always assumed it was just a haircare store front. I had no idea they offered salon services in the back. I made an appoint with Jessie on one of my days off. She asked how I wear my hair and how I like to style it. I was unsure why she straightened my hair to cut my hair, but I figured it was because she wanted to make sure all the strands were cut at the right length. Snip, Snip... and 4 months later, my hair is still put together and not unruly. You know you've found a good hairstylist when your hair is better as it grows out. I hate stylists that only cut for the now as opposed for how your hair will grow in the next months to come. I am definitely going to go back to see Jessie. $40 for women's hair. read more

Today was my first time doing my hair at Eugene's, and it was a great experience! I had to color my hair and trim some damaged ends, so I showed the picture to Eugene for the color I wanted, and he gave me advices on my hair. There were Eugene and another lady working (forgot to ask her name), and they both were super nice and approachable! The color came out really pretty, and the service was 10/10. I have been debating about getting a perm for a while, and finally decided to do it before a trip I was taking. My usual stylist has been super booked and traveling a lot so I found Jesse here. The location was a little hard to find inside a mainly chinese shopping plaza. It's in the corner nearby a travel agency and a dumpling restaurant. Once I got there I was asked to put on a robe and directed to my seat. Jesse is super cute and pretty much knew what I was looking for because it's the "trendy" thing right now to have loose wavy hair. She pulled out an ipod with tons of hairstyle pictures for me to look through and choose from. That was very helpful. She warned me that the curls will be tighter in the beginning but eventually loosen to the look that I want or else they won't last as long. I understood that and appreciated that she checked with me to make sure I'm ok with it before proceeding. The hair wash was "ok". I've definitely had better. If they could just improve the hair washing technique I would love this place even more. The overall perm process was long, but not terrible. They have a ton of magazines to keep you occupied. When I was FINALLY done she showed me how to style it and what products I can use. She never pushed any of those products on me but I ended up asking her for advice on products and bought some anyway. I have to say I really do like the shampoo/conditioner she recommended for me. I think I'll continue to buy them. She also gave me a discount because I paid with cash on those products. It's been almost 2 months since I got my perm and I'm loving my hair. It's still a little curly for me when it's wet, but if i don't put anything in it then it looks very natural. The haircut itself is staying well too. She even handled my bangs very well and not everyone can cut it right. I would definitely say Jesse knows how to style/cut asian girl hair. So I got a haircut by Eugene on Saturday... gotta say i didn't walk out as a happy customer. :\ Pros : Eugene was courteous and able to take me in for same day appointment. Cons : I requested for volume and bangs. Eugene did both as requested, but both didn't compliment my face/head. He started with bangs first - it came out too short. I didn't panic at that point because what's done is done... I'll let it grow back. Now to hair volume. Eugene just straight out doing lots of layers on my hair and that's it. I don't have crazy long hair, when i pull my hair to the back it falls around my bra strap. When he finished my haircut, I was not too happy because my top and crown area was still heavy/flat... with lots of layers from my ear all the way down... so my hair got really thin but nothing else. The request was communicated before haircut, so i am not sure why he was still flat ironing my hair.. I guess it's their technique. Do they listen to your request? Absolutely! Can they achieve what you want? you gotta try your luck. $45 for women's haircut. From my judgement, they do a decent job. For the price, they're very reasonable, good service and I would give them a try. I was referred to this salon by a friend and today was my second time going. 1) I made a same day appointment and they were very accommodating, i was a walk in my first time. 2) I had Jessie and just like the first time i went she was very nice, she asked me what i wanted and i actually brought a picture and asked if it would work since my hair is slightly wavy. she was honest and told me that she can cut it to look similar. 3) while she was cutting you can just see all the work that was being put into it. I'm a guy and usually places just shave off the sides and thin out the top a little. Jessie made sure to check from all sides to see if it was OK. 4) After the initial cut, i had my hair rinsed and Jessie checked again to make sure she didn't miss anything. overall, of the two times I have been there I have been impressed with their work. I haven't gotten my hair cut by Eugene (Yoo Jin), so I cannot comment on his technique but I have heard and read some great things. as for the price, it costs 25$ for a guy cut (not including tip); for me this is a bit pricey but for the amount of work that is put into it, i feel it is worth it. oh and if you decide to go. make sure you go at a non meal time because the parking lot is shared with some restaurants. read more

I wish I never left California because of this hair salon!! I am very picky esp. with my hair. I DO NOT trust anyone!! But I LOVE Eugene!! He always does my hair along with my sisters and mom. I usually get the same thing... bangs with a long wavy perm. It comes out perfect ALL the time. He knows just what I want so never cuts more than I am not comfortable with. My bangs are always perfect and so are my curls. My perm usually lasts for a year. I will even fly out to California just to get my hair done from Eugene. This place is a must try!! I've been coming here for almost four years now, and I must say I've never been happier with my experiences here. The store is managed by Eugene ( get it? Eugene's hair trend?) and Jessie (the prettiest, skinniest, Korean girl!). I've had my haircut by both of them, but I've been more partial to Jessie. This place is tucked in a little plaza next to the Vons, which is probably why it doesn't get much publicity through travel. They also recently opened a beauty shop inside which houses some products you can't find at the local CVS or Rite-Aid and so forth. But back to haircuts, I normally get a trim and perm. Each time the perms are done to near doll like perfection of sleekness, and when Jessie is done styling it I can't help but be extremely proud of my hair :). Not only do you get perfect hair, you also get massages for both washes (which is done by currently a very nice assistant with magic hands). The owner's English is limited as well as Jessie, so don't be expecting deep conversations, but you can expect some friendly small talk. I personally have extremely soft and extremely thick hair (which I'm sure is common for most Asians) and they handle it very well.
