Delicious food in a cuisine unlike any other restaurant in the area. This was my first time having chebureki and I found them to be absolutely delicious. They have a delicate crust and a filling of juicy chicken, topped with sour cream. I have a recipe among my cookbooks and will endeavour to make them at home (I don't live in San Antonio, or I would definitely be a regular here!) We also had a plate of vareniki which I was already familiar with, but these were over the top in flavour and the dumpling dough was lighter an fluffier than any I've had before. I live in Belize where a community of Mennonites originally from Ukraine settled. In their version, much has been lost from the original recipe. The service was polite and courteous; the restaurant is small, tidy, and clean with lovely murals depicting Ukrainian themes. Tiny little cafe, but very cozy. The staff was friendly and helpful. Great service! BUT BEST OF ALL WAS THE FOOD! I had the Pelmeni dumplings. They were outstanding! As good as I have had anywhere. The rest of my family tried the crepes, pirozhkis, the borscht bowl, and the Varenyky. Everything was praised to high heaven. I will definitely make this a regular stop for dumplings in the future. I had already been to the military highway location and loved it. My son always wanted to go, but we couldn't find a good time. We decided to go this Monday on his day off. Since they had a second location, I decided we Should try it. The new location is very similar to the original. It is a very small comfortable café. It is nicely decorated. I think there are only about five tables. You order at the counter. Both of us ordered the Borsch. It came with a pirozhuk. Both if them were amazing. We also ordered the lamb dumplings to split. They were out of this world, but definitely pushed us to "stuffed". Our drinks were kompot. It was a delicious cold fruit concoction. I have to say that everyone else besides my son and me were speaking Ukrainian or Russian. Of course, for all I know that might be the same thing. My point is, when you want to eat good ethnic food from another country, find out where the people from that country go to eat it. One last thing... They served our food in plant based paper bowls. Our soup spoons looked like white plastic, but we're also plant based. We also got a set of cutlery with a knife, fork, and spoon that were made out of bamboo. I liked that. read more

The Chicken Dumplings were very flavorful and the broth savory. The Piroshki was soft, buttery, and flaky. The Chicken Skewer with the Cabbage Slaw was good. The Kompot berry drink was refreshing and not overly sweet. I'm not sure why they served our food with paper plates and disposable utensils as we ordered it to eat there. This place is so freakin' good. We have been here several times and have been sampling everything. Everything is fresh and flavorful. You can't go wrong. My favorites are the varenyky, both savory and sweet and the chicken dumplings. My husband loves the borsch and pirozhki. My kids loved the empanadas. Everything is good though. I visited this new location of European Dumplings Cafe as I was in the area for work, and I was SHOCKED to find I was the only customer. I was even more shocked about this when the customer service was thoughtful and attentive. The sweet employee gave me her recommendations as a first-time customer, and she nailed it! Two, the food was spectacular. I mean, truly phenomenal. I will be dreaming about the Varynky for weeks!!! Everything was so flavorful, the portions were filling, and I could tell that ingredients were fresh and the food was made with care. If you are in the area, this is a place to check out. Our food was delicious and very filling! My husband got the veal dumplings in soup, and I got the potato and onion dumplings with mushroom. Both were nice and hot when they arrived at the table, and did not last long! The kompot was very refreshing and bright. It's very quiet inside so we could easily converse while we ate. This unique place is a wonderful respite for those of us who have gotten a bit tired of the usual local dining fare & are willing to treat their taste buds to an exciting culinary journey. All the items I have tried so far from their limited menu have satisfied my adventurous cravings. Their chicken skewer (dark meat) was juicy & perfectly seasoned. The cabbage salad served with it is the perfect counterpoint to its savory goodness. Their chicken pelmeni (small dumplings) came in a pool of butter that was probably not too good for my cholesterol but was oh, so good for my soul (hey, you only live once). For a couple dollars more, you can have it served in chicken broth. Both versions of their pirozhki (buns filled with sautéed onions and either mashed potatoes or chicken) were tasty, hearty, & filling. I have yet to try their borsch, chicken crepes, & the stuffed eggplant rolls, but those are for future visits. Notes: * The restaurant is tiny: two tables for two, one for four, & a big one for 6-8 diners. There's also a small table outside for those who don't mind the heat. Takeout may be a better option for some. * The staff is friendly & helpful. They gladly answered my questions & offered recommendations on which dishes to try. * This place is eco-friendly. Their flatware is made of wood & their bags & takeout containers are biodegradable. * They have another store in Castle Hills; it is in the space formerly occupied by Bilia Eatery (another highly recommended place which had to move to a bigger space down the road). * They also have a loyalty program. Food, 10/10 I got the dumplings traditional option 1 mixed with chicken/lamb and the PIROZHKI. The dumplings were buttery, savory, and delicious. The PIROZHKI was flaky on the outside and crispy, while the inside was super soft and the potatoes were sooo good. I also tried their KOMPOT iced. Very good, highly recommend if you don't mind pulp. It almost tastes like pomegranate juice even though it's not in the drink lol. Service was amazing and fast, the lady at the front was super sweet and helpful. The ambiance was very cute and quaint. I am NOT a foodie. Let's make that clear so you know how much this review means. My wife and I went in to try something different. The woman that greeted us was so kind and helpful. She also happened to be the one to make our food once we ordered so it was as fresh as it gets. The food was outstanding. It was so flavorful and reminded me of comfort food. She accidentally forgot to bring out my wife's tea and tried so hard to give us a free drink for forgetting the tea. It was no big deal since she just made our food from scratch. The restaurant was very small but definitely catered to the customer's food experience. If you stop here for food, don't be a whiny schmuck if it takes a few extra minutes, they make your order for you once you order. if I could add another star I would....this place was incredible...I could probably spend at least 1 hour telling you why...first of all, I am second generation POLISH, UKRAINIAN, and CZECHOSLOVAKIAN. I grew up with this beautiful and warm culture and, the most delicious food in the world...this lovely and cheerful restaurant brought back so many memories of delicious food and family and friendships combined. we enjoyed the VARENYKY and the pure spring water. this dish was spot on...temperature was perfect, the taste and flavor were unbelievable! the music being played was the most relaxing music I have heard in a long time...talk about a taste of heaven....I can't even explain how we both felt (my sister and myself). we just felt like this was the most perfect lunch we have ever had in so many ways...also love the fact that this restaurant cares about our environment..the bowls and tableware were bamboo and other recyclable materials, and very sturdy. Olga the chef was so enjoyable to talk with and the man that waited on us was awesome also...we will definitely be back and hope to keep coming back...the distance from our house is far from this location, but that will never stop us from driving to this fabulous restaurant. read more
