This place is off the beaten path and in a small strip mall so you can easily drive by and miss. Looks like it was a prior bar or banquet hall but doubles as an amazing Mediterranean spot. The food and friendly service is top notch. Everyone was so friendly and felt like a family meal at your grandmas house. Started by sitting down and were offered the Turkish tea which was so flavorful. Sugar cube not needed but a plus if you want some extra sugar. My husband and I order the appetizer plate consisting of 4 cold appetizers -hummus, taziki, grape leaves and the spicy ezma. It didn't taste spicy but was super flavorful. The bread was so fluffy and addicting too. We also order the grill plate for two. Came with 5-6 meats, salad and rice on a light platter. Finish the meal off with a baklava bite. Chefs kiss-heaven. This was an amazing find. I know this restaurant has not been at this location very long. From the start the service was as if you were being welcomed into someone's home. Staff was enthusiastic and warm. The restaurant is very open with subtle decor and white linen tablecloths but it doesn't feel stuffy or pretentious. We were offered complimentary warm pita with tzatziki and a spicy sauce as well as a cup of Turkish tea. The Turkish tea is some of the best tea that I've ever had. I must find some to have at home. The pita was warm and fresh. The red sauce was flavorful with some tang and just the right amount of heat for you to enjoy but not get blown away. The Branzino tasted fresh and was lightly seasoned but the cook made it great. Flaky and succulent fish on the inside with all the right flavoring. The mix grill for 1 is a combo plate of several different meats all seasoned and cooked just right. All of the meats were robust with flavor. Amazing! When I walked in I was not impressed but that changed quickly. It is obviously a more weekday place than a long weekend place. With that said, Mia, my server greeted me and let me pick my table. She offered advice (which was spot on) and ensured I had everything I needed. It has been a minute since I've had Turkish food and at Liva you will get some of the best served anywhere. The ezma is fantastic (spicy vegetable dish) and because I could not make up my mind, Mia suggested I order the mixed grill. I am not a fan of ordering big dishes but the portions are perfect and not at all heavy. Go and enjoy a meal at Liva, best choice ever. read more

First and foremost the staff here are some of the kindest people I have met in awhile. Such an overall pleasant experience. Now, for the food. SO. GOOD. We ordered the Hummus, Babaganoush, and Mix Grill for 2. Everything was so darn good. It's not often that prefer the other meats over gyro meat, because I can be basic, but not here. Let me tell ya'll my FIRST bite and I looked at my Husband like he had bought me some jewelry. The complementary tea, bread with yogurt dip, and baklava are enough to sell you but stay for the amazing food. I had the mixed grill for 1 and my friend had the chicken swish wrap. Uniformly five-star reviews look suspicious but I can't give them anything less. It was lovely to the eyes, nose, and tongue. The fragrant (and complimentary) tea was served in an elegant handle-less teacup. The fluffy, soft, warm (and also complimentary) bread was served with a tzatziki and a hot sauce which name I don't remember. I'd gladly pay to sit there sipping tea and eating bread. I weep for my gluten-free roommate. The entree presentation was gorgeous. The kabob was tasty but was upstaged by the grilled vegetables. I don't know how grilled veggies can be so good but they clearly know how to pick produce. The only drawback is that Liva was mostly empty on a Thursday evening. They deserve much more attention that they're getting. read more

Absolutely amazing experience here! The restaurant is in a nondescript strip center and you wonder if you are in right place. We were warmly greeted and we were immediately at ease. We were served Turkish tea and pita and tzatziki when we sat down. We had the mixed meat and chicken shish plates and the food was fantastic!! The meat was so flavorful and juicy and the plates came with fluffy rice and a salad with a delicious vinaigrette. After our delicious meal, we were surprised with the best baklava we've ever had! The rice was perfectly cooked, the salad was fresh and refreshing, and the meats were all incredibly tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was better than the last. What a nice find. This Turkish restaurant was wonderful. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were large. I had to take 1/2 of it home. I had the lunch special that comes with one appetizer and one entree. The falafel was melt in your mouth as was the lamb and beef gyro plate. The side salad with beets was refreshing. I couldn't have the tea today because of a no caffeine day, but they brought a small one to the table to try along with a sample of the baklava. If you're in the mood for Mediterranean food, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

As nice as all the elements were, the food was even better. It has a while since we have been surprised at a restaurant, but we were really thrilled by our experience. The lunch special was 17.99 and had a first course and a main dish. We were provided dips and bread (like pita), Turkish tea, and baklava at the end of our meal. We went at a bit after 6:30 when the Spurs were to play the opening championship game with the NY Knicks at 7:30. Only a couple finishing their meal - otherwise the dinning room was empty. Liva's had a sewer backup that lent an unpleasant odor inside - but after a little while it was not noticeable. Promptly greeted by the waitress - very pleasant. We were told to take any table. Ours was along the wall with my friend sitting on the bench while I took the chair (table for two). We should have taken the advice for a table for four as our plates out grew the smaller table. The table was covered with a white plastic "cloth". The napkin was black in it were our utensils. Looked very nice. First the water glasses were turned up and water was poured from a pitcher - no ice, which is fine by me. Next the Turkish hot tea was brought out with a sugar cube. I generally don't drink tea - but I did tonight. It was fine - but I am not one who can review tea, maybe an IPA or Hefeweizen is more in my bailiwick. I ordered the mixed cold appetizer ($17.00) to share. This on the advice of the attentive young woman attending to us. With that appetizer ordered I thought a hot appetizer would suffice as the next course. An opinion was offered that another selection would be better than the one I had in mind. Taking that advice I ordered the shrimp in butter with garlic ($12.50). The cold appetizer (four selections plus the separate dip) was very good and quite tasty. It was really more than two can responsibly eat. The bread was hot and delicious. Then the shrimp arrived - I wish I had taken a photo. The dish was a combination of "regular size" and almost "popcorn size". The aroma was one with iodine, indicating to me the shrimp were not as fresh as I would prefer. This is the only negative criticism I have to offer, other than the order of the backed up sewer. The dish tasted good - my friend especially enjoyed his with his diet Coke. He refused to try the tea. He took one bite of the dolma and no more - I found it to be good - ate all of one and reserved the third to bring home. He took 2 bites of the baklava, and did not finish it. He does not remember ever having it - carrot cake, Oreos and ice cream are his limited selections. At 84 years old he says he likes to go out for "food adventures" but will only order from a small list in his mind, mostly hamburgers, fajita tacos or a shrimp dish. Since shrimp is one of them and diet Coke the other - he was a happy camper. Turns out I too was a happy camper. Since I cannot award 4.5 stars I went with 5 stars. They start you off with complimentary fresh bread and delicious house-made dips -- the tzatziki and babaganoush are clearly made from scratch and incredibly fresh. You can really taste the quality ingredients. The chicken shish was perfectly seasoned and grilled to perfection -- tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The lentil soup was comforting and rich, just like homemade. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared.
