What can I say..... I just got off this plane about 1 day ago my memories are quite fresh. Checkin' in at LAX: Geez louise...... The line was pretty long (Insert inappropriate sexual reference at any moment) Though, it moved pretty quickly. I was about a few kilos over but the guy at the counter hooked it up... What a sweetiepie. So I didn't have to pay a fee for bein' like 3 kilos over. Seating: I got the Window seat unfortunately. Yes yes.... I don't like the window. I prefer Aisle. No I don't have a small bladder. I just like the leg room and stickin 'out my left leg as far as possible. However, I was really surprised at the amount of leg room I had. Perhaps, cause I was in the upper deck. (Upper deck is not Business class by the way). Also, they had a side compartment for your duffle bags which was nice. Staff: Not bad. You'll instantly notice the airline stuardesses by their Green attire. The service is pretty average. Some might find them to be extremely cute. Especially if you're a white guy.... Though, I wasn't too impressed. Air Malaysia has better lookin' girls in my opinion. Food: Airplane food in general is garbage and I was too impressed with their selections. Either Rice Porridge or an Omelette......... Hmm.. Let me see. Granted, I wasn't expectin' Filet Mignon but whatever... On board entertainment: It' ok........ A lot of chick flicks. I had my choice between watchin' any thing by NICHOLAS SPARKS (The Notebook, Dear John) or a few episodes of Entourage and the office. I chose the latter. The quality kinda sucked but it's whatever... Flight time: Unfortunately, I couldn't fall asleep on the plane for some strange reason...... Though, it's pretty standard. I took the red-eye and got there in the morning. Pretty safe and pretty smooth for the landing too. *It's not bad when you fly to Taiwan cause everyone and their mother uses Eva. After 7 years, my parents decided to go back to the Philippines for a vacation. And so, we had to look for an airline that offers low ticket price, at the same time, good quality service. I did a mini research and Eva Air turned out to be the one. I had so many questions about the tickets, flight, luggage, etcetera, etcetera, so I called and got answered very promptly. I was pleased with the knowledge of the staff and he was able to answer all my questions. Great experience, very knowledgeable staff/s. Eva Floating Funds! Shame on you Eva Airlines for holding onto customers money for one month! I fly overseas almost monthly and this review is directed towards the way Eva Airlines conducts its refund or lack thereof, in a timely manner. If you haven't already figured it out, booking on Eva requires quite of bit of due diligence. First, if miles are important to you, you cannot book the lowest "sale price special and expect 100% of the miles flown to be credited because you got a discounted fare. Secondly, if you want to use your miles to upgrade a seat you also cannot book the lowest fare online because those prices often do not qualify for the upgrade. As you can see they wont give you a discounted fare and allow upgrades. I realized this once I made the booking, so I went back and within 20 minutes I cancelled my original reservation and re-booked at the higher fare so that I could use my miles to upgrade my seat. Here's where I find Eva's business practices to be unacceptable. Most businesses will refund the money back to the original form of payment within 2-3 days. After 12 days I noticed my card was charged for the cancelled flight and still not refunded. The agent said we usually take 4-5 weeks to issue the refund! That is absolutely ridiculous and outrageous. I think Eva is floating my money. I re-booked and they efficiently charged my credit card for the new booking while still holding onto my funds for the ticket that was promised to be refunded. SHAME ON YOU EVA AIRLINES! The service on flight is fantastic and the counter service is great. But this business practice is unethical and improper. read more

Eva Airlines is by far the best airline in all of Asia. I am a frequent flyer and I have traveled the world many times, and I've been to Asia more times than I can count. As someone who frequently flies from the USA to Asia and back, I really critical on the experience of my flight. I flown short and long haul flights from Eva and I couldn't say anything negative about their service. The flight attendants all look like models and are extremely attentive. In premium economy you get a ton of additional perks as well as beautiful legroom. I've been lucky enough to be on the Hello Kitty flights two times within the same week and I was overly ecstatic. Their safety rating is number one for a reason, I've never felt that the pilot don't know what they're doing and I'm also a pilot myself. read more

I just completed my first flight with EVA airlines from LAX to Vietnam with a stopover in Taipei, Taiwan. They did everything right. The flight left on time, arrived on time and in air service was good; very attentive attendants even with a fully loaded plane. I can't comment about the regular economy seats because I booked an emergency exit seat for the extra room and convenience of not having to be disturbed by other passengers for bathroom runs and walk-arounds, etc. Very nice selection of in-flight movies and music. My one suggestion would be to have free Wi-Fi during the entire flight. I'm currently in the process of trying to reconcile some missing mileage on my frequent flyer account from this trip so we will see how their post flight customer service works out. The Eva air website is a little confusing....needs to be streamlined. I got a good deal on the roundtrip airfare from LAX to Vietnam and purchased the ticket only 2 days before my trip. I will definitely fly them again for trans-pacific journeys. read more

Love to fly Eva. It goes into the Macau airport so it's more convenient for me to visit my grandparents instead of going to Hong Kong. You have to stop over in Taipei but it's all good. You're on a 13+ hour flight yo. Any stopover should come as a blessing. Food is yummy! I love airplane food. Some yelpers suggested or asked about EVA Air. So, I will write about it. If I have a choice between China Airlines and EVA Air, I'd choose EVA Airlines. This airlines has clean safety record. It's said that the company perform some sort of Taoist blessing on each new airplane prior to the virgin voyage. I usually fly the Elite class (business). The food is very good. It's not as salty and oily as other Chinese or Taiwanese airlines. You can tell they put thoughts into the food. The service is also very good. During the flight, there is an open bar. You can go get wines, drinks, snacks or coffee anytime yourself. The attendants do not have an attitude and bow to the passengers. The only complaint I have is the seat comfort. Though it is claimed to be ergonomically designed and laid flat, it is laid flat when extended at an angle, not parallel, for the Elite class seat. So, sometimes when you sleep, you tend to slide down a little bit. I do like the goose down blanket they give you. The pillow is also a real pillow, unlike those airline pillows you get at other airlines. The entertainment program is comparable to China Airlines. Overall, I'd have given it a 4 and 1/2 stars rating if I could. read more

I expected a lot more from an Asian airline with superior ratings to US domestic carriers. We booked the EVA flight to Saigon via Taipei because the price using United miles can't be beat (they only charge $2.50 in taxes for each leg which is unbelievable). Anyway, it's too bad the flight itself is not good. The plane we were on (777-200 or 300) was old and economy seats extremely small. But what really made things terrible is the fact that every aisle seat by the windows on this EVA plane had a box that powered the TVs directly under the seats. This resulted in essentially no leg room for a 14 hour flight! When I first saw it, I actually thought it was some kind of joke - but definitely not the case. I also was less than impressed with the service. When asking for water, I received a small cup filled up half way. I then decided to ask for a bottle (or even a larger cup) and they refused to give it to me for reasons I still do not understand. The only real positive of the flight was that it was on time and they had moisturizer, toner, and cleanser in the bathroom which ive never seen before on an airline. read more

I just switched to China Airline because EVA flight would rather take off with empty seats than letting loyal members buy seat with mileage-redeemed ticket!! I have been an EVA customer and member for years and I always chose EVA when I fly to Asia (and always stop by Taiwan as I like this country and its people so much). However, I had very very (very!) bad experience last month in Taipei SongShan Airport. I was checking in flight from SongShan (TSA) to Haneda (HND) in order to connect my ANA flight from Haneda (HND) to Los Angeles (LAX). This short flight ticket was redeemed back in September using my mileages. I found out that my TSA-HND flight wasn't confirmed and thus cancelled by the system automatically (EVA ticketing email DID NOT mention a word about confirming that flight I redeemed and booked using mileage!!). I was upset but I immediately got on standby list and waited til last call. Unfortunately I was told the flight was 100% full and they could not get me on the plane. I asked if they could get me on the next flight. The customer service agent said there were empty economy class seats in the next flight but they are not for mileage redeemed tickets due to class difference. I asked if they are transfer me to that class. The REPLY I got was, IT WAS DONE SOLELY by the SYSTEM. There's nothing they can do. I did whatever I could to let them grant me a seat but they insisted they was nothing they could do. Since I had to fly back to Los Angeles ASAP, I purchased a brand new ticket with China Airline (last minute) with USD1,400. My connecting flight from HND to LAX became useless. I was furious and definitely question EVA Airline on their operational management and ticketing system regulations. First, their ticketing email should clearly and further addresses that confirmation is needed to secure a seat for mileage redeemed ticket. Second and more importantly, customer-facing employee should be given AUTHORITY and FLEXIBILITY to switch/change different classes to accommodate last minute needs from their members, to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty. It seems like they would rather take off with bunch of empty seats than granting members seats with mileage-redeemed ticket. Next day, I called their customer service line and informed them my bad experience. The answer I got was, "I'm sorry, there's definitely room for improvement in communicating with our members". BEWARE! Eva online reservation system is flaw - if you have to buy with EVA use a travel agent or call direct. The process asks you to pay for your ticket before allowing you to select your seat. Therefore if you have a medical condition that requires you to take an aisle seat, you do not have the choice to view available seating before you purchase. When I contacted customer service support, I was told there isn't anything they can do unless I pay the $100 penalty of changing the flight. If I wanted a refund there is also a $100 penalty. The gal continues to tell that the next time you book online you should contact them first to see what seats are available. I told the CS, if I was able to see available seating on different days and flights, I could have easily avoided this issue. The CS did not offer any solution, she just say there is still a month left and an aisle seat might open up. So I filed a complaint and haven't heard back yet. Needless to say, EVA has poor customer service, technology challenged and operate thier business by ripping off thier passengers. read more

EVA AIR IS DA SHIEETTTT!! China Airlines is the other Taiwanese airline and it just pales in comparison, from a quality standpoint. As you enter the plane, notice the traditional Taiwanese music being played... stare at the pretty flight attendants... just don't creep them out, since they WIILL be serving you after all. If you ever fly in their business or first class, you are in for a treat. They actually serve decent fare for in-flight food... instead of meals on trays, they serve it in 3-courses, coming by on carts with a little mini buffet. You can choose what you want after seeing it, and they serve to you onto your plate with real china and silverware. Beer and wine is free and they don't limit how much you drink. Business class and first class actually offer real bottle wines, including champagne! I've had everything from congee for breakfast, to LEGIT caviar before dinner. If you sit in the Evergreen Class, usually right next to Business/First classes, you'll be tortured by the smell of cakes being heated up for snack meals that only they get. But don't worry, you can ask for instant noodles anytime you want, no matter what section you're in! Back in the day, they were one of the few airlines that offered everybody personal TV screens even in the lower seating classes. There is a wide variety of TV shows, music stations, and hit movies that you can choose from. Usually, both Chinese and English are offered, and occasionally you'll find French. Kids can get video game controllers too! The flight attendants are sweet, pretty, and most of all helpful. During overnight flights, they are constantly up and about serving water, coffee, and juice to whoever needs it. It's nice to see that these flight attendants deliver friendly service even though they don't work for tips... waiters/waitresses in LA could learn a couple of things from them! Usually I never sleep on flights back to Taiwan. We take red eye flights so I nap all afternoon then stay awake the whole flight, watching movies, drinking coffee, listening to music, drinking coffee.... when I was little I'd hang out with the flight attendants in their kitchen area, but now that I'm older I dont' think it would be so appropriate anymore... Anyway, not sleeping is a really good way to fight jet lag. When you arrive there, it's night time. Go grab a bite at a night market and then you're ready to crash for a full night's rest, synchronized with the local time! It's been over 4 years since I last flew on EVA actually, so some details of my review may no longer be accurate. But as I remember it, EVA has always been a great flying experience! read more

I really like to do my research when it comes to traveling across large bodies of water from a bazillion feet in the sky. Call me sheltered, but I never even heard of this airline prior to a recent trip to SE Asia. After some perusing on the internet using key words "Eva Air safety" I was relieved to discover this airline has been rated of the safest carriers and given a top 7-star rating. Yay! Be forewarned the website is pretty underdeveloped so online check-in is not as much of a snap as it is with more mainstream carriers. However, I ended up checking in at the counter at LAX with no problem. Unless you are rich enough to fly first class, I think any 20+ hour flight anywhere is an experience that is akin to drifting through the nine circles of hell in Dante's Inferno. However, the stewardesses (all of whom seemed cloned from the same model...young + slim + attractive = ageism) and staff were very attentive and did what they could to make the flight tolerable. The bathrooms were fresh and maintained. The meals were actually some of the best I've had on any carrier. Guess they use quality frozen food products...he-he. I ordered a "gluten free" meal and was among the first ones to be served...good to note if you don't want to wait to eat. :) My criticisms are minor: -The stewardesses were a bit stingy with ice when I asked for some to cool my luke warm diet coke. -The water cups they give you with dinner are a bit on the teensy side for those of us that like to stay hydrated. But when all is said and done, this was one of the best airlines I've ever used - though not a five star because that would indicate perfection and no airline is perfect. If you are flying to SE Asia (or anywhere else they travel), I would definitely recommend giving Eva Air a shot. read more

9/19 LAX to TPE. Four stars for this leg of the trip. Not fully booked flight. So got to spread out. Some lucky bastard even migrated to get all three seats to herself. Very beautiful hotties to serve you. Adequate English skills. Took them forever to unload my bag. That's the thanks you get for checking in really early. 9/28 TPE to LAX. 2.5 - 3.0 stars for the return flight. Crowded. Tons of Vietnamese refugees onboard. This might have been their first time flying because they were doing some pretty silly things like getting out of their seat to open the overhead compartment when the plane just barely took off. In other words, the plane's nose was still pointing 45 degrees in the air. Then as we were 20 miles from LAX (meaning seconds from landing), an elderly woman got up and wanted to use the loo. A fellow Viet told her to sit down. Duh! The girls on this flight were not as attractive as the girls on the outgoing flight. Again, took them forever to unload my bag. Again, I responsibly checked in early. Recommendation to EVA: skip the Viet refugee business. read more

I've got to say: EVA Airline was the worst airline I've ever been on. I rarely get air sick (i.e. motion sickness), but I am very careful about it because I do feel nausea when the plane descends. I don't eat anything greasy, fried, or generally considered 'bad' food before I get on the plane to ensure that I don't get food poisoning. So when I started to vomit on the plane, I knew it wasn't caused by food. In fact, I vomited about 8 times during the 14 hour flight to Taiwan (and I've been on plenty of long flights going to Shanghai from LAX). I had to hide in the restroom every time food was served because the scent of the food would induce another round of barf. Not only was I sick from having to vomit so many times, the seat was incredibly uncomfortable. There was barely any leg room, and I was stuck between two people. When friends hear me complain about not having enough space, they believe me because I'm 5' 3" and 98 lbs. So you couldn't exactly blame the lack of space and seating comfort on my physique. After about 7 hours into the flight, I was also having chills from vomiting so much. I took motion sickness pills, but barfed those up as well. Then I was told by a flight attendant that there was bad air circulation, and that's probably why I was having issues. I was feeling so terrible I was literally having thoughts of throwing myself out the window and into Neverland. In the end, it all came down to: bad air circulation + cramped seats = uncontrollable vomiting. That was definitely the worst experience I've ever had flying. Although China East isn't the greatest, but I've never had any problems. Even China Air was better. I'm flying to Japan this November, and I'm definitely NOT going anywhere near EVA Airline. Flew coach from Taipei - LAX route. GOOD: Screens on each seat with many recent movies, games and TV shows. Headphones included. Bathrooms seem cleaner than other airlines. Taipei airport has good restaurants - all asian foods. Taipei airport is clean and modern and with sleep chairs if you can get one. EVA website easy to update seat assignments. BAD: From Taipei to LAX, the plane smelled like a chicken farm. It's like visiting a dirty butcher shop where you have to hold your breathe just to pick up meat. It's very noticeable and uncomfortable for 12 hours. The first hour of flight, the air smelled like jet fuel exhaust. Made us dizzy. Cloth seats, no leather. The food on this route both ways was not good quality. The food from Taiwan to Indonesia was delicious and good quality. Eva should review their caterers on these routes. The ceiling light is positioned strange where if your neighbor turns it on for themselves, it shines in front of you. The light is not on you but a few inches away so the glare does bother you. Lights are not adjustable. This will ruin your sleep. No 24 hour customer service on phone. You have to call during their business hours. Taipei airport has no medicines (aspirin), tissues, snacks. SUMMARY: Since the chicken farm smell, I will never fly EVA again.....I hope Korean Air, JAL, Singapore are better. EVA, please use leather seats so they can be cleaned quickly and spray lysol. read more

Eva Air has been the choice of airline for my family and I for the past couple years... before that it was Singapore, but prices have skyrocketed since they're known to be the best. Eva Air is definitely 2nd behind them, though. Long flights are never easy, but the staff are probably the best at making it comfortable. Most of the stewardesses (longest left-handed word!) are pretty attractive, and easy to talk to. Plus, they always check on you for snacks/towels/drinks/slippers unless you're sleeping. I recently flew to Taiwan on 1/24, and it was only filled up to 70%. Easily found an empty aisle+middle seat all for myself. The best part is their Economy plus seats... usually just a couple hundred extra, you get a bigger seat, much more leg room, and maybe better food. Definitely worth it when you're spending 20+ hours in the air. Overall, I'm getting very comfortable flying to Taiwan with them... and they have a sexy VIP lounge in LAX and Taoyuan as long as you have enough mileage in their membership program (2nd level). I should be able to be a Silver card member by my next trip, so I'm counting on the free buffet, alcohol, and showers! Flying should always this be this easy. read more

HELLO KITTY ADVENTURE!!!! THAT GOES WRONG!!!! Well the flight was great. Comfortable. And the flight attendants were polite and not hideous so that's a plus. I was heading from Los Angeles to Manila with a lengthy layover in Taipei (which is a nice town). I always book through orbitZ because I get points to go towards hotels and the more I travel the more points I accumulate. So I didn't realize the flight I have booked was the hello kitty plane. I didn't realize it until I checked my baggage and the ticket was covered with hello kitty paraphernalia.. So I thought to myself oh cool they have a theme on it... I waited in my terminal just relaxing reading my manly stuff and all the sudden the plane arrive. It was covered with hello kitty everything .... I was like oh wow they really going crazy with the theme. Then I boarded and I realize the inside was hello kitty too. From the pillow to the movies everything I mean everything including the food was hello kitty. It was really cool but I felt weird because there are two types of guys on this plane. Weird otaku japanophile guys with anime haircut and them there's normal guys with daughters. And there's the third type of guy me.... Booked the plane unknowingly that it was the hello kitty flight. To be quite honest I was having a blast. I'm the type of person who enjoys and welcomes all experiences and now I can say yeh.. I flew on the hello kitty plane... And it was on accident. Crossing the pacific is a rough flight because it's usually nonstop. 15-17 hours on a plane with no quick stops at JFK or Dallas like flying domestically in the USA or to Europe. So I asked the flight attendant for a beer to relax and help me sleep (I don't take sleeping pills) since I can't sleep on my own in an airplane. I had two and then the worst offense happened in any transpacific flight. "Sir. No more beer". wHAT!!' I'm in the middle of the ocean and no more beer!!!! I politely replied how about wine.... "Sorry sir no more wine". .....what!!' No more wine. So turns out this plane is catered to kids or maybe most passengers that fly eva don't really drink because I had no problem with korean air and philippine airlines getting a good nights sleep because they were responsible enough to make sure there was enough liquid gold on board!!!!!! I flew with EVA on my flight to Hong Kong on a business trip. It was a grueling 14 hour flight over there with a layover in Taipei. But it didn't quite feel as long as it was thanks to their in flight entertainment. Each seat has their own personal TV where you can watch movies, play video games, watch TV, listen to music, send email, and make phone calls. It's nice to watch a movie and stop it whenever you have to go to the bathroom and then pick up wherever you left off. They had a decent selection of movies too. I think I watched like 7 movies total. And it was fun playing soduku and galactica =) There is a decent amount of legroom and the seats seem to recline a little tiny bit further than average. They give you a nice thick blanket and slippers so you can take off your shoes. I was a little disappointed with the food. It wasn't bad but wasn't that great either. I took this airline from Thailand to Taupe (TPE) in Bangkok the counter in the airport was very rude, they intimidated, they do not want that I took the airplane to came back, everything my documents was perfect, they want to go other place and I requested to go with the supervisor, later they accept to go to the airplane very late. Service is very good, food is okay, seats are pretty legit, even for economy class. Their aircraft all seem relatively new, as are the seats and features. Most importantly, EVA has a clean safety record. Not one incident or crash ever. And on a personal note, EVA seems to know that passengers love to snack. They have Grandma's chocolate chip cookies, Chinese crackers, nuts, and just a decent selection of snacks (may vary by flight, but they do have goodies on board). Drinks are placed on trays in the galley areas where passengers can just go to help themselves to (at least on redeye flights). The lavatories also all have facial mist sprays, which are a great pick me up during long flights. China Airlines? They only have mixed crackers & peanuts and drinks are not readily available in the galleys. Facial mist? Nope. Personally, I think EVA kicks China Airlines' ass. I love flying EVA, but sucks that I get booked for China most of the time since I have a Dynasty card (which is ironic because I don't travel often, which means I'll never rack up enough mileage for any type of upgrade). I've heard EVA tickets are usually cheaper than China's, too. Anyways, my suggestion is for travelers going to Taiwan to fly EVA. It's supposedly cheaper than China Airlines and honestly way better. I feel even though China Airlines is part of Sky Team and continuously tries upgrading its in-flight service and aircraft, it just can't reach the level EVA seems to be on. read more

My wife and son flew Eva Air from Hong Kong to Los Angeles via Taipei. The cabin crew members on both segments were very attentive and funny. They gave my 4 year old son a kids pack with some toys in it for him to play with during the flight. The business class seats were very comfortable, especially when turn-down service was provided and an additional cushion was applied to the seat itself. The catering experience was an excellent one. I booked special meal for my TPE-LAX segment and the taste of it was awesome. Despite the fact that EVA Air indicates that Royal Laurel Class is a business class product, the overall experience was a first-class quality experience. I would definitely rank Eva Air's business class product close to the top of all airlines. read more

I flew business class to Taipei from LAX. Great trip, great service, great food. Since I don't fly to Asia ever (or not until this flight), I don't know how they compare to other airlines providing the service. I can compare to European flights on US Air and Delta. I would say the experience was far better than these trans-oceanic counterparts. Absolutely, I would fly them again. Thank you, EVA and your flight attendants for helping make my first trip to Asia a pleasant one! The only complaint I have is how their website is organized. Had some trouble sorting out the online check-in and meal ordering process. But, nonetheless, eventually found what I needed. read more

Maybe it's just because I hate flying in general, but I wasn't really impressed by Eva Air. Pros: -Decent movies like Hairspray, Breakfast at Tiffany's, etc. -The food was ok. Cons: -No leg space. -Flight attendants always seemed very busy. The cups they handed out were tiny so I wanted a refill and I asked 3 different flight attendants but they all brushed me off. Again, maybe I was just really cranky because of the 14-hour flight to Taiwan...I wish I could fly first class. My review would probably be a lot more positive :) read more

I fly over 100,000 miles every year and while EVA is rated as one of the safest airlines, they have one of the worst phone systems. I called in on a Monday at 11:00am PST and when I selected the Los Angeles ticketing office, I was directly to a menu that asked to call the direct line. When I called the direct line, it led me to the same voice menu. Calling again, I selected the reservation office option. The recorded message states that there is high call volume and for the caller to try back at a later time. In the past, whenever I called in the past, it's at least a 30 minute wait to connect with someone. This is a hassle as you must talk to someone in reservation or ticketing to get your seats assigned. So even if you purchase tickets via the Eva website for a Eva flight, you have to call in. For a supposed first tier Star Alliance member, I find all of this unacceptable. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Worst customer service ever! I booked their Royal Laurel class, had thee-ticket confirmation, and the checked in counter gave me a Royal Laurel ticket and a Star Alliance lounge class. As I was about to walk into the lounge, they took my ticket and told me it was supposed to be an economy class ticket (of almost 4000 usd). I asked nicely if there had been a mistake in their system. Then it's the fun phone call transfer game of "no, this is not my fault let me transfer you." Only after I started to scold them, did they sudden admit the oopsies in their system. During this entire time, they had me standing and waiting outside as if walking into the lounge and borrowing a chair is too much to ask. read more

I've been flying Eva Air since 1997 & it has quickly become my favorite airline to fly to Asia. The staff is courteous, gives you plenty of drink and yummy instant noodles whenever you want. The plane is clean throughout. Western airlines, pay attention to how Eva Air & Singapore Airlines operate their staff. I usually book either economy or economy delux, depending on the season I go to Asia. The delux usually costs $150-$200 more, and during high season booking this class is way worth it. Once I upgraded my seat to a business class, and I found myself able to sleep without the aid of a sleeping pill thanks to the comfy seat that converted vertically to almost 180 degrees. Of course, enjoying higher quality meals with real bone china plates complete with nice tableclothes and napkins didn't hurt either. I was also delighted with the L'Occitane skin lotions that came with the flight bag. The flight takes about 12 hours from LA to Taipei, and slightly longer on the way back due to air flow direction. I enjoy playing games on my personal TV with my console or reading a book. I treat my time on the plane as my personal "me" time, in which I can do anything I like in pure laziness. Because of my Eva Air membership, I always go to the Eva Air lounge in the Taipei airport, where I usually take a shower, then enjoy some congee and noodles and sipping canned Taiwanese coffee or green tea. Then I go to the internet room to email my dad that I've arrived safely in Taiwan and will board the connecting plane within a few hours. read more

My parents like to fly this airline to Taiwan every chance they get. We're actually from Texas, but this is the airline of choice for them. My boyfriend's parents also love this airline. They aren't even Taiwanese but they appreciate good quality service with a good reputation of being safe. My boyfriends' parents fly to Thailand a lot because his mom is Chinese-Thai, and his dad is white. The prices of their flights also don't change the day before their flight either! I accidentally booked the wrong date for them with Cathay Pacific, and the day they were flying out, Cathay Pacific wanted to charge us $2000 more total ($1000/person) from Tokyo to Taipei. I was furious. Cathay Pacific then proceeded to charge a $664 cancellation fee, which I guess is somewhat understandable because those seats may not get filled. But STILL! I had to book a flight for my parents for the next day from Tokyo to Taipei. I checked on EVA air and the price for the same time and flight never went up from 2 months before! They say the flight attendants are always courteous and knowledgable, and the planes are always new and in good shape. Other people who have complained about EVA seem to be complaining about the airport that they are flying out of. Sometimes, it's really not the airlines' fault that delays happen and are unorganized; if the airport is a mess, airlines will be a mess. Side note: Cathay Pacific has horrible customer service as they dont' ever answer their phones. Although I think Cathay Pacific may have been a good airline when Hong Kong was owned by the British, I think their standards have dropped ever since Hong Kong returned to China. read more

I fly between LA and Manila every chance I get. My airlines of choice, so far, is EVA Air. I've flown with them 4 times, 2 to Manila and 2 to LA and every time was better than the last. Not only do I salute the cabin crew, I absolutely praise their awesome pilots. The landing is always unnoticed! Its just surprising when you hear the engines stop and find urself waiting to get off the plane. Best amenities (well since they're the first airlines I've flown with that has private monitors with tons of new release movies and albums), not so bad meals (they feed u often btw) and pleasant, bubbly attendants. My only qualm is I wish their flights were cheap all year round. I gotta book in advance for the cheap tickets. I'm kind of a shotgun trip traveler and look for flights whenever I find myself with a couple of weeks of free time. o:T read more

Good airline if everything runs smoothly. But if you need anything involving customer service you can forget about it. We had seat reservations that were not honored and the manager didn't even want to talk to us. My brother in law just got his flight cancelled and was never notified, and the list goes on. I fly them a lot. A LOT although I'm only a silver GC member at this time. Have to mention that the customer service is pretty good - the presentation of their flight attendants - however the biggest issue are their seats. Unbelievably uncomfortable business class and economy elite seats for trans-pacific flights. Also, had trouble this last time in Taipei getting in the Executive Lounge - although I heard it was crowded so I can understand that. Hope one day something will be done about the seats but everything else is fine... read more
