That meant our dogs would need to go through an entire ordeal to get over to the island. Unfortunately, this airline was our best option at this time. Summer changes the flight issues for dogs due to weather restrictions. I'll spare you the worst part but I say in their office for almost three hours with our two dogs. They let me sit there while they attempted to contact their boss regarding my dogs and their crate sizes. The same crate sizes that they are accustomed to. Three hours. From 3am to 5:50am. And I don't even think they actually contacted the manager. It was too early. The manager wouldn't even see my dogs before the flight would leave. Only one dog was able to fly this occasion. After all the foot steps, preparing to ship our dogs the office was not helpful to say the least. (The other side of the office for Alaska bravo to them) Per the man that was "helping" the manager is an animal lover - guess what lady, I'm taking my dogs to Hawaii! So ya, I am also an animal lover. I would never put my animals in a situation that would be detrimental to them. They are FAMILY. Not your family, MY FAMILY. The gentleman stated that the crates they were in would get him in trouble. Of course I would never want to jeopardize anyone's job but this needs to be addressed. Now that I am settled and in my new location I feel it's important to advise the future participants and I hope that this review helps someone. Unfortunately for me, their convenience of using larger than required crates meant that the dogs needed to ship in larger crates and of course to that was slightly more expensive. I'm already spending $850 per dog, $1,000 is not much difference. I was able to send one dog on the original day due to someone else "leaving a crate behind". How convenient. The cost was one thing but the rest of the ordeal is what brought me here. Originally for the desired crate size of 40" for a golden retriever and a Chesapeake bay retriever, their at home crates were deemed too small for them. Turn around have space above their heads and are comfortable in their space, was not good enough for them. I had to leave a dog behind, get a sitter and find someone else to transport my remaining dog. As well as get a new health certificate. I will not recommend using Hawaiian for shipping your dog and if you have another option, take it. Alaska was kind and appropriate though slightly more expensive but no disappointment or wasted money.

The breakfasts did not rock my world however. The quiche was pretty good. The yogurt that was served on both flights was flavorless, and I don't like thick, flavorless food in general. No fault of Delta, but I had to endure the same family to and from New Orleans. The parents were traveling with two small, obstreperous children. It wasn't enjoyable. The entire family was not seated together on either flight, but both boys wanted to be seated with mom, which made for an active flight to say the least.

Sure, sometimes the flights are a bit delayed, but they've never been massively delayed or anything like that. That's a good thing. In terms of service, I really recommend that you fly First Class on Delta Airlines. Sure, it's not anything near International First Class. That's a completely different ball game. But, flying domestic first class really gives you a bit of an advantage. First of all, you get to board the plane first. Meaning, you're allowed to get to your seat, put your bag away, and sit back and relax while all the other passengers struggle to find their seat and a place to put their carry-on luggage. In terms of what they offer for food and drink, it's all complementary. Is it great food? No, not really. It's pretty much what can be expected. But, it is a step above economy class, and certainly you don't have to pay for it. This is the same with their drink menu. Anything you want to drink, alcohol included, they provide to you for free. Plus, you do get a considerably larger seat than the ones they offer in economy class. Overall, as with all flights, you just have to be prepared to accept what's going to happen. Certainly, we all want the best experience possible. And, for the most part, Delta Airlines has never let me down. But, you have to be willing to roll with the punches. The best way to do that, I believe, is to fly Delta First Class. It really takes a lot of the edge off the trip, and makes the whole flying experience a whole lot better.
