I've been flying Eva Air since 1997 & it has quickly become my favorite airline to fly to Asia. The staff is courteous, gives you plenty of drink and yummy instant noodles whenever you want. The plane is clean throughout. Western airlines, pay attention to how Eva Air & Singapore Airlines operate their staff. I usually book either economy or economy delux, depending on the season I go to Asia. The delux usually costs $150-$200 more, and during high season booking this class is way worth it. Once I upgraded my seat to a business class, and I found myself able to sleep without the aid of a sleeping pill thanks to the comfy seat that converted vertically to almost 180 degrees. Of course, enjoying higher quality meals with real bone china plates complete with nice tableclothes and napkins didn't hurt either. I was also delighted with the L'Occitane skin lotions that came with the flight bag. The flight takes about 12 hours from LA to Taipei, and slightly longer on the way back due to air flow direction. I enjoy playing games on my personal TV with my console or reading a book. I treat my time on the plane as my personal "me" time, in which I can do anything I like in pure laziness. Because of my Eva Air membership, I always go to the Eva Air lounge in the Taipei airport, where I usually take a shower, then enjoy some congee and noodles and sipping canned Taiwanese coffee or green tea. Then I go to the internet room to email my dad that I've arrived safely in Taiwan and will board the connecting plane within a few hours. read more

My parents like to fly this airline to Taiwan every chance they get. We're actually from Texas, but this is the airline of choice for them. My boyfriend's parents also love this airline. They aren't even Taiwanese but they appreciate good quality service with a good reputation of being safe. My boyfriends' parents fly to Thailand a lot because his mom is Chinese-Thai, and his dad is white. The prices of their flights also don't change the day before their flight either! I accidentally booked the wrong date for them with Cathay Pacific, and the day they were flying out, Cathay Pacific wanted to charge us $2000 more total ($1000/person) from Tokyo to Taipei. I was furious. Cathay Pacific then proceeded to charge a $664 cancellation fee, which I guess is somewhat understandable because those seats may not get filled. But STILL! I had to book a flight for my parents for the next day from Tokyo to Taipei. I checked on EVA air and the price for the same time and flight never went up from 2 months before! They say the flight attendants are always courteous and knowledgable, and the planes are always new and in good shape. Other people who have complained about EVA seem to be complaining about the airport that they are flying out of. Sometimes, it's really not the airlines' fault that delays happen and are unorganized; if the airport is a mess, airlines will be a mess. Side note: Cathay Pacific has horrible customer service as they dont' ever answer their phones. Although I think Cathay Pacific may have been a good airline when Hong Kong was owned by the British, I think their standards have dropped ever since Hong Kong returned to China. read more

We had seat reservations that were not honored and the manager didn't even want to talk to us. My brother in law just got his flight cancelled and was never notified, and the list goes on. I fly between LA and Manila every chance I get. My airlines of choice, so far, is EVA Air. I've flown with them 4 times, 2 to Manila and 2 to LA and every time was better than the last. Not only do I salute the cabin crew, I absolutely praise their awesome pilots. The landing is always unnoticed! Its just surprising when you hear the engines stop and find urself waiting to get off the plane. Best amenities (well since they're the first airlines I've flown with that has private monitors with tons of new release movies and albums), not so bad meals (they feed u often btw) and pleasant, bubbly attendants. My only qualm is I wish their flights were cheap all year round. I gotta book in advance for the cheap tickets. I'm kind of a shotgun trip traveler and look for flights whenever I find myself with a couple of weeks of free time. o:T read more

Honestly can't think of any any complaints with this airline. Flew LAX to Bangkok premium economy seats and felt treated like a queen. The attendants were very attentive offering fresh wet towels, snacks, unlimited alcoholic beverages & fresh & tasty meals and were friendly while doing so. We were also supplied with a kit including toiletries, socks, sleeping mask etc. The bathrooms had nice smelling lotions & face mist as well. Had a small mishap with not having my miles applied to my account but phone call was an easy fix. I did have to wait for about 15-20 min but once I got through, the service was top notch. read more

Have to mention that the customer service is pretty good - the presentation of their flight attendants - however the biggest issue are their seats. Unbelievably uncomfortable business class and economy elite seats for trans-pacific flights. Also, had trouble this last time in Taipei getting in the Executive Lounge - although I heard it was crowded so I can understand that. I don't exactly know how to describe EVA air. I wouldn't say its the worst airline, but they are ok. They could use some improvements. EVA air gets me to Taiwan, which is great. The food is 50/50. Sometimes the food is great. Sometimes the food is just slop. Well maybe i'm whining because one a recent flight my bro and I wanted to have the "American" style meal. Though since we were sitting all the way in the back and there was this big group of non-asians in front us that took all the "American" style breakfast, which had eggs we were stuck eating porridge the "Asian" style meal. My bro with out some protein with his meals is not a happy camper. EVA Air really needs to improve their website. When you want to log in on their site, they want all this important info from you. I'm surprised they don't ask for your blood type log-in. If I had a choice i'd fly Singapore Airlines to Taiwan, but they don't fly there anymore. Going with the Band Wagon here, just flew round trip LAX-TPE-MNL and I just have to give 5 stars for the experience. New Boeing 777-300ER are awesome aircraft. With a monitor on each seat, it's a given A+ on all trans-pacific flights. It has new and decent Hollywood and Asian movies, TV shows and games, plus the constant compass. Given that its a new plane, the seats are a little spacious than the older 747's. FOOD is 100% good, I was a little peculiar when booking the flight, as I had good food reviews with both Cathay Pacific and China Airlines but EVA was top on this one. The taste's are not too overwhelming and the portions are more than normal airline quantity. The only set back is the liquid they give you are in contrast with the food, I had to order extra cups of soda for both dinner and breakfast. The nest awesome thing with the experience is the Taipei Terminal. Our connecting flight was due in 2 hours and 30 mins and it was amazing. Each Gate has it's own theme, ours in particular was the "Hello Kitty" gate, in which the gate entrance was all about Hello Kitty cartoon characters. Some gates are also great such as the "library" gate and the "forest relaxation" gate. Other than that its free wi-fi in the terminal. Will fly again and will get the mileage points. Great and highly recommended. read more

Food to Taiwan was great, 5 stars. Food to LA was terrible, -1 star. Crew members roll their eyes at me because I look Asian and speak English on the flight to Taiwan. I speak to them in English, and they assume I should speak mandarin. I feel like I'm getting discriminated because the quality of service is affected by this, -1 star. This applies for the baggage check and assistance with visa paperwork. Try to pay the attendants more because they look unhappy at times, it may improve their attitude, I think. There's a lot of turbulence, flight becomes uncomfortable over long periods, and the free alcohol makes you feel seasick. In all: Affordable, good service, considerate guests, and able to get good flight options throughout the week. read more

I was very surprised when EVA told me my wife was not welcome in the lounge. This was after we spent $4,000 for a pair of tickets to LA. This kind of spinster, non visionary, fabulously cheap minded policy leaves one disappointed and wondering what management was thinking? I paid $50 to get her in. Totally unnecessary and rather silly on their part. Otherwise EVA is a great airline. Guess I will stick to economy in the future. Without the lounges the larger seats are definitely not worth $1000 more! Inane at best. Surly at worst. Shame on EVA. Bad policy. An otherwise great airline. Stick to economy class! My wife and I, as well as another couple purchased tickets from LAX to Bali on Eva Airlines. The first leg is the longest and is in a 777-300ER. The EVA website touts the "Premium Economy" with a picture of the seats which look quite nice with a leg rest that raises. Only hours after we booked did we read ONE single review that stated the leg rests were only on the first row of the section (bulkhead). All the rest of the seats had small metal "foot rests" that came from under the seat in front of you. We tried to call EVA Air to see if this was true. We couldn't believe it was since their own website shows the seats with the reclining leg rests. Unfortunately, this was a Saturday and EVA Air is NOT a 24 hour airline, or at least there is no one with reservations or customer service available after about 3:30 pm. So, I had to wait to the next day and I was less than one hour after my "24" hours to cancel. They confirmed that only the first row has the actual seats they advertise as Premium Economy... After expressing my extreme dissatisfaction and demanding to be transferred to a manager, I waited on hold for over 15 minutes before being told a manager could call me back so I wouldn't have to wait. About 45 minutes later, I received a call from a manager. He had already looked into the issue and agreed with me that they should not be advertising the Premium Seats with that picture and description since only one row out of the entire section had those seats. He claimed he was going to send the issue immediately to their corporate office. I told him that was fine but what were they going to do with our four tickets. He could not tell me what they would do, I offered to be moved to the bulkhead seats so we could have the leg rest and he would not commit to that. He said he would have the Customer Service Department call me. I told him I expected a call by the end of business the next day (Monday). It is now Tuesday and I have not received any response. About 45 minutes later, I received a call from a manager. I've always been a China Air girl, so crossing over to EVA didn't come easily. Why did I then? Because the airfare was $100 cheaper and because China provided such a mediocre experience the last time I flew with them. The entertainment services were decent, enough to tie me over for a few hours. I have a short attention span, and so I need to be engaged if I'm not fast asleep. The movie selection was pretty up to date, and so I got to catch up on both Shrek Forever After and Ironman 2. The food was actually not bad. The choices were chicken noodles or fish with rice. I went with the fish and rice, which was breaded pieces of fish dressed in an orange tomato like sauce with white rice and a little bit of bok choy. That with a cold turkey salad, a few pieces of fruit, and a jello dessert was dinner. The flight attendants followed up dinner with tea and coffee. I didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on the food. The flight attendants were nice and attentive, but their English were rather rusty. Or not even rusty but they couldn't speak it somewhat fluently, which made communicating with some passengers difficult. In that regard, there's definitely room for improvement, although I'm not sure if that's asking too much from a Taiwanese airline. read more

I started flying EVA between TPE and LAX shortly after its inception in the 90s. Back then the premium economy class product on its 747-400 (initially called economy deluxe but is now call "Elite class" by EVA) was revolutionary. The price difference between economy and premium economy was relatively small and the extra legroom was much appreciated. As EVA has phased out all 747 on its TPE and LAX routes and replaced them with 777-300, the number of Elite seats on each plane dwindled. What it means is much larger price differential as compared to Y(right now, it could be 2X the price as Y) and greater difficulty to use mileage to upgrade. But depending on your priority, the Elite class may still be worth the price. I recently flew EVA's economy class on the LAX to TPE route for the first time (outbound BR11, inbound BR12). It was on a new wifi-enabled 777 (which EVA uses on selected TPE to LAX and TPE to NY routes) both ways and each flight was at least 90% full. Much to my relief, I was able to switch to aisle seat for both trips (if had had a middle seat, I probably would've found a way to slid my wrist half-way through the flight). Below is a short summary of the various aspects of the flights: - Seats: 18 inch of seat width, which is 1 inch more than that of China Airlines and other US carriers. Fortunately (and unlike China Airlines), EVA has resisted the trend of squeezing in 10 seats per row and instead has retained the 3-3-3 configuration. Legroom is adequate for economy class standard (you can't expect much). The new "wifi" 777 actually loses 1 inch of legroom as compared to the current 777 fleet. But the upside is that there is no bulky IFE metal box under the aisle seats anymore, so you can better extend your legs under the seat in front of you. Overall, the seat comfort level was not as torturous as I thought it would be, and the 14-hour flight came and passed a little bit quicker than I had expected (although it was anything but "enjoyable"). - Food and beverage: For dinner and breakfast, you basically get a choice between an Eastern and Western fare. Good portion and pretty tasty overall. For dinner, they had a quinoa shrimp salad with the braised fatty pork rice selection, which I thought was kind of odd (but I liked both). During the "downtime", the cabin crew frequently walked through the cabin with beverages/water and little snacks. They also put out snacks and water in the galley area for passengers to pick up themselves. For the TPE to HKG leg (flight time less than 1.5 hours), I was so surprised that we actually received a light meal as well. - Entertainment. EVA has upgraded the IFE system in the new jets. The screen has grown bigger (almost too big for me when the seat in front of you is reclined) and the touch screen interface is excellent (not sure about its durability overtime though). There is a good selection of new and classic movies in various languages and a wide selection of musical choices. There is also now a USB and three-prong power outlet for each seat, which is a feature not available on the older 777s. - Service: Friendly and efficient. No complaints, especially after having flown transpacific on United previously. I bought some duty-free items for the first time ever and they had what I was looking for in-stock. - Wifi: I purchased the 24-hour wifi pass on both trips, each one costing USD$21. The speed was good and with little interruption. I did some work with the wifi. But if you don't really need e-mail or text , the large inflight entertainment options should keep you occupied without purchasing the wifi. I believe it also offers some kind of SMS text service but it seems to be only compatible with Taiwan mobile carriers. Overall, I would say if you can pick, EVA is a better product than China Airlines, and definitely better than the US carriers. read more

Choose another airline if you can, if your experience is more important than a small price difference for a long flight. 10 years ago they were decent for premium economy but they haven't evolved. I flew to Singapore via Taipei in March and it wasn't so good. I couldn't change my seat assignment until checking in at airport, which is so 1996. They charged me a $100 change fee to upgrade from premium to business which is already doubling the price. really?? Their highest class of service is like domestic business with the la-z-boy chair, not the first class/business class pods I've had for the same price going to Europe (LAX, so same distance). It's wordplay, some airlines call their highest class business and it's really nice first class, some call it premiere...anyway, the highest class for the same pricing and only chairs is a bummer. I think it's the only airline to Singapore who DOESNT have the real first class even though they charge for it. They seem not to have status at LAX, as we were made to wait over an hour on the runway having perhaps missed our turn. Also, we waited on a bus for 45 minutes, packed standing room, to be ferried to the remote gate, because we were "waiting on one passenger". Hello! Late? Leave them or drive them separately! I almost missed my Eva connection in Taipei with all this. Food was pretty bad. The seafood with xo sauce was decent, but not as good as a lean cuisine even. I am okay with chinese breakfast with savory stuff and rice porridge, so no complaints there. The return was even WORSE. Again, could not change my seat. Then, I couldn't change it even AT the airport because their computers were down! They WROTE me a boarding pass with pen and paper and said they could not call Taipei to change my connecting seat. CAN'T??? So i was stuck, couldn't change it, not with a 20 minute connection time. So rude and so antiquated. Upgrade the computers!! Food was again pretty bad. Actually worse; the braised chicken stuff is pretty bad. Asian diner style skin on boiled yuck. I think it may be okay with a decently priced economy or premium but business is a total bummer rip off. The staff on the plane are very, very nice, exceptionally so. read more

Too bad I never got a flight to review because I couldn't get a reservation! I attempted to get a flight from their website. I found a great deal. When it came time to process my payment, I got an error message of "Difficulty processing transaction, please try again later". I tried several times with the same results. I attempted to book using another search engine but before I could finazlize the transaction, the price had increased! Somehow, the price dropped back down to the origional price and was given a confirmation number. When I attempted to look at the reservation and entered the confirmation number, the screen says that confirmation number was no longer valid! I used a different website and attempted and got a price very close to EVA's website price. I got the approval. I was called by an agent who said my card was declined. My bank stated that my account was overdrawn because the origional transaction was pending! I callled EVA customer service and was told that I had attempted 9 reservations! I explained that the website kept showing difficulties processing the payment and was told "we are using a new system".. I was given another confirmation number. I called the other company and cancelled the transaction with them. When I attempted to look at EVA's website, the confirmation number shows "not valid"! I called customer service and was told that I will have to do the whole process all over again, but now the price for the flight is doubled. I told them to cancel and will attempt to get a flight on another airline. Horrible, horrible, horrible! I am very disappointed with them. read more

Flew from LAX to Taipei on my way to Vietnam and then from Taipei back to LAX. My 12+ hour flight was tiring, but they had great service, in-flight food was good, had adequate leg room despite being in economy, and I had no problems with luggage, etc. Overall, I would fly on EVA Air again. read more

Avoid Eva Air if you have hand carries. They will weigh your hand carry. Their airplane and stewardess can't have you carrying 7kg which is really nothing if you tried weighing your average hand carry. Hand carries are carried by the passengers so, they don't have to worry. Average hand carries are around 10-12kg. Imagine 7kg. You're pretty much just carrying underwear and air. read more

This airline has denied me and my wife out of air miles big time. At the LAX airport going to THAILAND we offered in the check in counter to give our milage rewards numbers ( cards). They refused, as they claimed we were already in the system to get mileage. Three weeks later they send an e mail to me in asia, stating that the names do not match their records to receive miles. Our names are a bit unusual so I cannot understand why they refuse to give us flight miles. Possibly because our middle names were not recorded properly at signing up for the mileage program. My wife and I have traveled to ASIA two or more times on EVA airline. I have traveled to ASIA more than 11 times in the last six years but never had problems getting mileage from the other international airlines. We got back from our latest trip to asia in January 2013 but EVA still refuses to give me full credit for air miles. And my wife has been denied ALL MILEAGE for the last six week vacation to asia, even though (again) we tried to give our mileage program numbers to the check in agents. I have written two letters and called many times to no avail...i recommend do not fly EVA AIR. They are very cheap with drinks and the snacks are a total joke for an 12 to 13 hour flight. eva was the only one that flew directly to paris from asia, so i jumped on it~ asia ~to~ europe i had an excellent 16-hour flight...it might have something to do w/ the SWEET super business class upgrade i received ;p booking , checking in, and the flight were all pretty standard for an asian airline although it was odd that they boarded economy through the premier laurel entrance after we were settled in...so there was a LOT of oohing & aahing // europe ~to~ asia (i'm not sure if it's because everything is done at a leisurely pace in europe) the guy initially wouldn't let me check-in because he said i look too young O_o so i flashed my booking confirmation at him boarding took RIDICULOUSLY long, they were quite disorganized with the different classes and card levels so there was a long traffic jam one of the flight attendants snapped at me...that was the only thing that irked me on the flight ~*~ all in all the flight wasn't bad, and mostly because i was delighted at my upgrades....however i still K3 my china airlines ;p read more

I took a trip with them to Vietnam a few years ago and it will be my last trip with this airline. I preselected seats for my family ahead of time so that we could sit next to the window. When we boarded the plane, a family already settled in our preselected seats. When I asked the flight attendant about this, she told me that this family asked to sit here, so she moved us to the middle aisle. I didn't want to argue with her because the other family already settled in, and I didn't want to create a scene. However, I was mad because she did not ask us for permission before she let another family takes over our preselected seats. I've been flying with EVA for a long while and I remember when they had those really cramped seats and TVs on the aisles so that everyone in Economy watched the same movies-regardless if you liked the movie or not. How things have changed since! I flew their Premium Laurel Class a couple of years ago, their economy class in March, and their Premium Laurel Class again round trip to Taipei. I'd have to say their customer service is pretty good and they always seen so respectable and eager to help. I never got any attitude from any flight attendants ever since I flew with them. Of course the economy class has smaller seats, but I went early to the airport and requested Exit Row seating. This gave me more legroom and a more comfortable flight. I don't think you can reserve those seats early and so try to get to the airport early to check in if you want to save money and be comfortable. The Premium Laurel Class is pretty awesome. It's 2-2-2 seating and the seats fold down all the way so that you can lie down comfortably to sleep. They even give you a memory foam pillow and a big thick blanket. The screen's bigger and there's noise cancelling earphones (although the earphones sometimes hurt my ears after I've worn them for too long). Now... on to the FOOD!!! The Premium class serves such amazing food! I had Ling Cod for dinner and blueberry pancakes for breakfast on the way there. On the return flight I had the Beef fillet for dinner and Chinese style porridge with side dishes on the way back. All meals come with a first course, main course, and dessert/fruit. The salads were so fresh and usually after the first course I would be pretty full. They also have ice cream!!! They served quesadilla as a snack but I was so full I didn't ask to eat some of that. I think you can also special order your meal if you are vegetarian or want less sodium or that sort of thing ahead of time. I know alcohol is always served, but I was drinking Dom Perignon and Rieslings non-stop. Sooo yummy. They had so many movies I couldn't even watch all the movies I wanted to watch on the 14 hour flights there. They had everything from new Hollywood movies, to Asian movies, to classics (All 7 Harry Potter movies)! EVA air also has great lounges in LAX and TPE. You can shower at the one in TPE and I think there's a special garden area for Diamond card members where there's a chef who will make things cooked to order. If you are wondering, definitely fly EVA, If you're on a budget get the economy. The food is pretty good and the service is good. The Economy Plus is only a couple hundred more and gives you a lot more leg room so you could also go that route. If you want STAR treatment then fly the Premium Laurel Class... you won't be disappointed! read more

I don't know if the plane I took was new or old...or I just sit the weirdest way ever but it wasn't just me. hahah...I just felt sitting there was uncomfortable. Yes, I know it's economy but does your butt have to hurt when you first sit down? Your butt usually starts hurting at the most half way through the flight but this when I first sat down! That was the only time I ever taken EVA or E.V.A. Air (Yes, it's not Eva - say it together...they say it separately - E.V.A. who knows why?) I don't know I always experience weird things on the flight back. First of all, they called us that our flight changed because there was not enough people on the flight from Jakarta to Taipei. They actually put us on China which wasn't that bad. However, when we were in Taipei the layover was only from an hour because we needed to catch the Eva plane that was departing from Taipei to Los Angeles. This porter guy had to stand with our names like we thought we were in trouble. I went with my grandmother and she basically had to run to catch up. Thanks, why don't you just get those golf carts that would've been better. If you guys don't know what the Taipei airport looks like, it's shaped like a big horizontal H and it's separated into 4 terminals. At the top it's usually terminal B and C and the bottom is terminal A and D. A and B are usually domestic and C and D is usually International. If you want to get from A and B to C and D you need to take the tram. We had to practically run from A to C. When we got to LA we were waiting for our luggages at the carousel, but to find out that our bags came earlier with the China flight. Apparently when we got to Taipei our bags didn't transfer to EVA flight but to the China flight that was also going to LAX. I guess it could be worse but wow... However, the weird thing is that they have that Hello Kitty flight that's going to Taipei, I may want to try that out..lol read more

Finally got in touch with someone in Los Angeles Eva Airlines customer service..I kept calling San Francisco office and I was on hold for over 15.minutes and no answer. When I spoke with Caline from Los Angeles office, she was kimd, patient and VERY helpful. I have spoken with Eva Airlines representative several times, and Caline has been the most helpful. Don't lose your luggage. They will give you a run around enough to make you dizzy. Then rush you off the phone because they don't want to answer your questions or rather don't have answers for you. Terrible customer service. Gonna cut my losses on this one instead of being treated like a nuisance because of their mistake. read more

Just got off the phone with Sonny, a customer service rep from EVA Air. I called because I recently booked our honeymoon via Expedia. We are apparently seated separately on both flights to and from TPE and LAX. She was very courteous and friendly about our trip and even congratulating us on our engagement and soon to be wedding. Sonny has diffidently set the tone of what to expect on the customer service level that we will be experiencing on our first 20+ hour flight. Thank you for all that you do for EVA Air and keep up the great work Sonny, I hope my experience is just the same once we board the plane. read more

I always fly Eva. Great airplanes, airline staff, but their telephone customer support is terrible. If you can even get a hold of them, they are not professional or polite. Everytime I need to call customer support, I bump into problems. The higher ups need to really do something about this. read more

I flew EVA to Taiwan recently and I don't think I can go another airline after flying with EVA! I loved their food and service, plus the stewardess are well groomed and very beautiful. I thought I was on a Hollywood set! The seats are a little bigger then the US international airlines I believe. But really their service can't be beat and they are not cheap with their food or drinks. Every hour or so they'll walk down the aisle to hand out drinks to keep the passengers hydrated and I thought that was the absolute best part. That kind of service and non stinginess just shows me what a great airline it is! read more

EVA is a pretty good airline. I've flown them twice all the way to Jakarta and haven't been disappointed. If you can afford it, try upgrading to economy plus. Seats are much more comfortable which is important if you're flying a long haul flight. My only gripe with this airline though, is the fact that their stewardesses rarely ever smiles. They get their job done but it would be nice to have a touch of friendliness from them.... read more

I only trust Eva air, better then Air China. I don't care about the service, at least they won't try a different way to trap your money.

I flew EVA last year for the first time from Los Angeles to Singapore via Taipei. The plane was a Boeing 777-300ER. The plane seem to be pretty new and I felt the seat were wider than average making them more comfortable. We sat in Economy class. The in-flight entertainment was good and meals were decent. The benchmark I measure EVA against is my all time favorite airline to Asia which is Cathay Pacific and although EVA does a great job in all areas, however the only thing I would ding them slightly for is the level of refinement when it comes to service. The flight attendants on EVA are professional and polite however not as refined as those on Cathay Pacific. Overall I would highly recommend them for your flight to Asia since they are a great value as far as price. They are not the most expensive and not the cheapest. EVA has my vote. read more
