I treated myself to two appointments at Evans & Co. this week. My first appointment was with Heather, hairstylist extraordinaire. She is the type of hairstylist that will give you the cut and color you never knew you always wanted. It's true. You say you're kind of looking for a rich Cherry Cola color with a lightly layered soft, romantic look? No problem. Done and done. It is such a great feeling to have a hairstylist you can have so much confidence in, knows what will look great on you, and will make nice suggestions but never pushes. Just like a good restaurant, you need to have consistency with a good hairstylist. I get that with Heather. My second appointment was for an indulgent facial with Marissa upstairs in the loft. A very cozy, softly lit room with soothing music and the most comfy bed I've ever laid in. Hard to believe I was there for a facial and not a massage. But guess what? A wonderful, relaxing head and shoulders, feet and legs rub-down is part of the deal. It couldn't get any better. Also, as I get older, I am always looking for that next 'miracle' cream or treatment. Marissa has truly turned back the hands of time for me (a little bit anyway!) with specifically tailoring a treatment or product to what's appropriate for my age, skin type and condition. Well, my hair feels beautiful and my skin feels rejuvenated and refreshed. It's such a bonus to be able to go to a 'one-stop-shop' too, where you can get completely beautified under one roof. I don't know too many salons that offer that. And I have to say, I love perusing their Bare Minerals counter and their Shop Suey boutique items. But you have to get there early if you want to window shop. I have never had to wait when I arrive for an appointment, a major plus when you have a busy schedule. My experience with other salons in the past is that it's not uncommon for them to make you wait a substantial amount of time, even when you have an appointment. Highly disappointed!!! My 13 year old daughter went in for blonde highlights. We were quoted $145-$160. We were DUMBFOUNDED when we were told the price was $245!!!! We were told that because she had a lot of hair that the extra costs were due to more product even though my daughter left with the majority of the front of her hair being blonde and the back almost entirely untouched! Ditto everything about Angela. She is awesome. My hair has never looked better (looks totally different from my old profile pic), & it's finally growing. She has done something fun and different everytime I've gone in, which has been since April 2012. I basically just tell her to do whatever she thinks will look good, and it always does! She's very detailed at color AND cuts, which I've found to be unusual in a stylist--usually I've had a stylist just excel at one thing. The only down side is Angela's slots fill up quickly. I've had to reschedule the same appt 3 times (due to my work), & I'm going through withdrawals! My advice is book your next appt before you leave, and stick to it. read more

The worst haircut in my life!! George did a horrible job! Clearly he didn't listen to what I wanted, told him over and over again I don't want it short, but did he listen, No. If I knew how much he was cutting off (to my ear) I would had donated my hair. The haircut looks like my toddler got the scissors and cut my hair. I should've gone to supercuts they probably could've done 1000 time better. George ruined my hair. It's so uneven and short it's unfixable, I have to wait for it to grow so I could even it out. George did a sloppy hair cut, it's so wrong in many levels. read more

Great salon! Cheryl Evans is fantastic. She's talented and gives great cut and color. The salon is small, but clean, comfortable and offers every amenity. She gave me a new look and new color and I get nothing but raves. I swear, I think it makes me look 10 years younger! The salon carries top product lines, including Pureology which is vegan and fantastic. Natalie is also a terrific makeup artist. First of all I've always loved Evans and Co and getting my haircut with Angela. Sadly since she's moved, I had to make an appointment with Jamie because she was available when I needed someone for a haircut and style and makeup before my engagement photos. I was a bit nervous trusting someone I didn't know to help me look good before these important photos. Jamie was really nice and fun to chat with. I'm pretty sure she's fairly new to the salon but I don't mind that. I know I can be a bit difficult in the sense that I really don't always know what I want done. Angela was always very good at communicating with me and helping me figure out what would look good when cutting and gave me lots of opportunities to adjust and really get what I wanted. Since that's what I'm used to, I was pretty disappointed with Jamie. She was great at helping me figure what to do with my bangs and framing my face. But when I asked if she'd done anything to my layers in the back she said she'd just trimmed them like the rest of my hair. I looked at them and kind of wanted them cut more but she thought they looked good where they were. I decided to leave it because while I did want them shorter I didn't feel like she was a good communicator and I was afraid we wouldn't be on the same page. So I left it and figured I can get it how I want later. When I'd made the appointment I'd specified that I had wanted my hair styled for the photoshoot. I didn't mind paying more I just wanted to make sure my hair was done well and thought I was asking for something additional. I wasn't needing a fancy updo or anything. Though I thought I'd be offered more options than just a simple style with cut. At the appointment Jamie asked if I had someone who was going to style it for photos. I was a little confused and told her that I had made the appointment with her for everything. I knew how I wanted my hair done which was simply curled well and down. I've always been asked after a normal haircut how I wanted my hair styled. So I was really surprised that Jamie never asked how I wanted my hair styled especially since that was what I was specifically there for. She just round brushed it and had me look at it to see if I like it. I wasn't sure if I was looking at the cut or the style. I wasn't sure if she was done with my haircut and was then going to ask how I wanted it styled or if this was the style. She asked if I wanted more volume added and then I realized this was the style. I told her I was really wanting it curled for the photos and asked if she could curl it. She seemed surprised but happily agreed to curl it. I told her that normal curling iron curls don't hold well in my hair and by doing tighter curls they'd loosen and be better for the photos. She curled sections and then ran her fingers through them while they were still warm knocking out the curls that I wanted. When I told her to be careful doing that because I wouldn't have any curl left by the photoshoot she just said she'd spray them and they'd be ok. I know my hair and what it will and won't do but as much as I tried to communicate that she continued combing the curls out. When she was done with my hair it looked very nice but not what I was wanting. There was just a couple bumps/waves in my hair and all the curl was gone. I was frustrated knowing that even that would be gone by photo time. I felt like she was good at what she was doing but she had her own agenda of what she wanted to do with my hair and didn't listen or seek to understand what I wanted or how my hair works. But I was out of time and needed my makeup done. I've never had my makeup done before and I really don't know much about it or how to explain what I wanted. I just told her I wanted a natural look with nothing too dark or dramatic. I didn't want dark eyes. To start with I needed to remove the makeup I had on. She looked for remover but didn't find any so used the brush cleaner on tissue for me to clean my face with. I don't know if people normally use that to clean makeup off their face with but it burned really bad and took a lot to get the makeup off. When it came to applying makeup I really liked the bit of contouring she did. I thought it looked really nice. But when it came to my eyes, she did a dark smokey eyeshadow that I felt made me look like a raccoon. I said I thought it was too dark but then not knowing much about how makeup work I didn't know if the dark circles wouldn't look so dark once the mascara and eyeliner were on. She assured me it looked good. We went over time and I was afraid I'd be late for photos so I left feeling like a raccoon. (It maybe looked good if you like that look.) But I had to run home and redo my eyeshadow and my curls. While I've loved working with Angela at Evans and Co. this was a very frustrating experience with a new stylist who maybe does well on her own but would be better if she knew how to communicate and understand her client's needs. read more

I was recommended to this salon by a friend and honestly trying it out was the best decision I ever made. Even though it's quite a drive from where I live Jaime definitely makes it worth it. When I first came in I wasn't sure what I wanted exactly and Jaime really communicated with me and helped me narrow down what I truly wanted to do with my hair. It did take quite some time but seeing the end results it was totally worth it!! I love this salon and I've been recommending it to all my family members and friends. She takes the time to understand what you want and helps you articulate what you're looking for, even when (like me) you lack the vocabulary to describe it clearly. She also has a keen eye, and knows precisely what will look best. More importantly, however, the outcome is far and away the best I've ever had. I've never loved my hair more. In one word amazing! From the moment I walked in, everyone was very friendly, welcoming and hospitable. I came in at 8:30 am and there was already other people waiting to be seen for other services they offer like haircuts or hair color. I was greeted by Jenny and told we would be going upstairs, I filled out a simple questionnaire, I was offered something to drink, and within minutes I was escorted into the room to get a microdermabrasion, with signature facial. The actual room is small but cozy with perfect relaxing lighting. You are offered a spa towel wrap for your upper body to be more comfortable because not only do you get an awesome facial treatment but you also get an amazing shoulder and neck massage. Jenny was very professional thorough and gentle. She explained everything she was doing step-by-step and made sure to ask me how I felt as she was doing it. so sad, well first of all i want to say i did not have any services done here, my review is based on my first impression and my customer service and its sad but true those really count! ever walked into a place and felt like the sales women was thinking, get your broke self home!
